On the 2nd of January, in Manor Township, Lancaster County, Pa., Abraham Miller, aged 79 years, 1 month, and 8 days. He was buried in the family grave-yard, on which occasion funeral discourses were delivered by Christian Herr and Joseph Burkholder.
On the l4th of January, in Hamilton Co., Ohio, Fanny Ramseyer, (age not given). She had been twice married. Her first husband's name was John Schlunegger; her second, John Ramseyer. Her maiden name was Liechty. She was the mother of eight children. Funeral sermons were delivered by Delm and Nicholas Augspurger, from 2 Cor. 5: 1-10. and 1 Thess. 4: 13-14. She was a faithful member of the Omish Mennonite Church.
On the 17th of January, in Manor Township, Lancaster County, Pa., Elizabeth Schopf, aged 71 years and ten days. She was buried in the family grave-yard on which occasion funeral sermons were delivered by Abraham Witmer and Christian Herr.
On the 25th of Jan., in Lower Salford Township, Montgomery Co., Pa., Daniel Haring, aged 44 years, 8 months, and 24 days. He was buried on the 28th, at the Salford Mennonite Meeting-house. Funeral sermons were preached by Josiah Clemmer and Henry Nice.
On the 31st of January, in Earl Township, Lancaster County Pa., Joseph Ditlow, aged 74 years. Funeral sermons by Peter Mosser and Tobias Wanner.
On the 1st of Feb., in the same township, Henry Weaver, son of Elizabeth Weaver, aged 16 years and 8 months. Funeral sermon by George Weaver.
On the 3rd of February, in Rockingham County, Va., Sister Elizabeth, daughter of John and Frances Rhodes, aged 24 years, 4 months, and 5 days She was a consistent member of the Mennonite Church, and died in hope of a blessed immortality. Funeral services were conducted by David H. Landis, John Evers, and Samuel Coffman, from Psalm 119:92.
On the 11th of February, in West Manchester Township, York County, Pa., of typhoid fever, Amanda Jane, daughter of Daniel and Mary Kauffman, aged 9 years, 4 months, and 26 days. She was buried on the 13th, at Witmer's Meeting-house. Funeral sermons were delivered by Frederic Stauffer and John Frantz, from 1 Samuel 3:18.
On the 10th of Feb., in Markham, Ontario, daughter of John Huber, aged 1 year and 2 months. Buried on the 11th at Wideman's burying-ground, where funeral sermons were delivered by Henry Bercky and J. Steckly, from Matt. 18.
On the 4th of Feb., in Champaign County, Ohio, Levi, son of John K. and Faronica Zook, aged 7 months and 4 day. Funeral sermon was preached by John P. King, from Phil. 1:21. "For me to live in Christ, and to die is gain."
On the 11th of Feb., in Fairfield Co., Ohio, of old age, Anna, widow of Pre. David Zook, deceased, who was, for many years, a bishop in the church, in Fairfield Co. The maiden name of the deceased was Lantz. She reached the advanced age of 90 years and 10 days. She was buried on the 14th. Funeral services were conducted by J. K. Yoder, of Wayne Co., Ohio, from 2 Tim. 4:1-8, in German, and by Jacob Good in English. The deceased was a member of the Omish Mennonite church. She always bore a good reputation and was beloved by everyone, and although she attained a great age, her memory was good to the last. Her hope was set upon Jesus alone; she spent her time in reading until within the last six months of her life, when her sight became so dim that she could no longer see to read. Yet she was satisfied with her lot, and often said she would willingly suffer all that her heavenly father saw fit to afflict her with, that she might be fully prepared for eternity. She often sang the German hymn, " Was mich auf dieser Welt betruebt," etc.
On the 12th of Feb., in Hilltown Township, Bucks Co., Pa., Amanda, wife of Jonas Gottshall, aged 24 years, 6 months, and 23 days. She was buried at Perquese Meeting-house. Funeral sermons were delivered by Abm. Moyer and Samuel Gottshall.
In the same township, of inflammation of the brain, Mahlon Moyer, aged 24 years, 6 months, and 21 day. Buried at Perquese Meeting-house. Funeral discourses were delivered by the brethren Henry Moyer, S. Gottshall, Isaac Moyer, and John Allebach.
On the 13th of Feb., near Lederachsville, Montgomery, Co., Pa., Hetty Frederich, aged 43 years, 4 months, and 20 days. She had been afflicted for many years. She was buried at Salford Meeting-house. Funeral discourses were delivered by J. Clemmens and Jacob Landis.
On the night of the 15th of Feb., in Roanoke Township, Woodford County, Ill., Catharine, wife of Abraham Brubaker, aged 32 years, 11 months, and 13 days. Her maiden name was Saendal. She was buried on the 18th, at Fawer's burying-ground, followed by a large concourse of people. She leaves a husband and three small children, to mourn her early, sudden, and unexpected departure. Funeral discourses were delivered by _____ Hart and Jost Bally, from Isa. 38, last part of 1st verse. "Set thine house in order, for thou shall die and not live." The circumstances of her death are somewhat peculiar. On Saturday, the 15th, she did her own house-work as usual. In the evening she retired to rest with her oldest child, a daughter, apparently in her usual health. Her husband and the two youngest children arose, and kindled a fire in the sitting room. The youngest child followed him thither, upon which he took it up, and brought it back to the sleeping apartment, laying it in the bed with its mother. She did not move in the least, but lay quite still. The husband laid his hand on her face. It was cold. She was dead. Oh! That all men might comprehend their nothingness! Should such an event not be sermon enough for every one?
On the 16th of Feb., in Waterloo Township, Waterloo County, Ontario, Canada, Bro. Moses Snyder, aged 41 years, 11 months, and 4 days. He was buried on the 19th at Snyder's burying-ground, where appropriate discourses were delivered by the brethren Joseph Hegy and Enoch Detweiler, from Rev. 20:6 "Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection, on such the second death hath no power." His disease was consumption. He departed cheerfully to meet his Savior.
On the 17th of Feb., in East Earl Township, Lancaster Co., Pa., Susanna Stauffer, widow of Jacob Stauffer, aged 77 years, 7 months, and 9 days. Funeral sermons were delivered by George Weaver and Tobias Wanner.
On the 21st of Feb., near Millerstown, Lancaster County, Pa., daughter of Abm. and Susan Herr, aged 1 year, 9 months, and 21 days. Funeral sermons were preached by John Landis and Jacob N. Brubacher, from Phil. 1:21.
On the 19th of Feb., in Markham, Ontario, Susanna Burgholder, aged 75 years, 4 months, and 18 days. She was buried at Wideman's burying-ground, on the 21st, where funeral discourses were delivered by the brethren Joseph and Henry Bercky, from Heb. 4. The deceased was a faithful member of the Mennonite church, and we believe she has gone to rest in peace. She was born in Pennsylvania, and emigrated to Canada in her early years, where she lived unto her death.
On the 21st of Feb., in Fayette Co., Pa., Jacob Smith, aged 71 years and 2 months. He was buried on the 22nd, at the Mennonite Meeting-house. Funeral sermons were delivered by Jonas Blauch and John D. Overholt, from Hos., 13:14. The deceased had been lingering for about two years, with palsy. He was a member of the Mennonite Church. He leaves a wife and children to mourn their loss.
On the 22nd of Feb., in Holmes County, Ohio, son of Aaron and Lydia Mast, aged 2 years, 5 months, and 20 days. Funeral discourses were delivered by William Gerber and Eli S. Miller, from Ps. 16: 5-6.
On the 10th of Feb., in Fulton County, Ohio, of consumption, Samuel Speicher, aged about 26 years. He was buried on the 12th, at the Omish burying-ground, in German township. He was born in Holmes County, but resided in Fulton County for several years. His mother resides in Coldwater, Michigan. A funeral discourse was delivered by J. and P. Naffziger.
On the 23rd of Feb., in German Township, Fulton County, Ohio, Barbara, wife of Joseph Sauder, aged 55 years and 5 days. On the 25th she was buried at the Omish Mennonite burying-ground in German Township. She leaves a husband and eight children.
On the 26th of Feb., in German Township, Fulton County, Ohio, Salome, wife of David Nafziger, aged 2 years, 4 months, and 24 days. She leaves an infant of 3 weeks old, and many friends and relatives to mourn their loss. She was a member of the Omish Mennonite Church, as were also the two preceding ones. Though we mourn their loss, we mourn not as those who have no hope. But let us all remember the words of the prophet: "Set thine house in order, for thou shalt die and not live."
On the 27th of Feb., in East Earl Township, Lancaster Co., Pa., Catharine Sensenig, aged 42 years, 5 months, and 10 days. Funeral discourses by George Weaver and Tobias Wanner.
In Chicago, Illinois, on the 28th of February, at 10 o'clock
in the evening, Daniel Hershler. He had been sick
about three weeks. He was buried on the 1st of March. He came
with his children from Baden, Germany, to America about a year
ago.
