 SCHROCK, William B.;    STERN, Phares;      

SCHROCK.- William B., son of Ben and Caroline (Otto) Schrock, was born Sept. 28, 1894, near Arthur, Ill.; died unexpectedly in his home (was found dead at 1:30 a.m.) on Aug. 8, 1974. Age 79 yrs. 10 mo. and 11 days. He was a member of the O.O. Amish Church. On Nov. 30, 1916. he was married to Elsie Kauffman, who survives; living in matrimony 57 years. He also, leaves 2 sons and 3 daughters: Ben W.; Martin W.; Mrs. Melvin (Katie) Kauffman; Mrs. Eli Wm. (Caroline) Miller, of Arthur; and Mrs. Chriss W. (Lucy) Yutzy of Arcola, Ill.; 1 sister. Mrs. Eliza Wagler, Montgomery, Ind.; 24 grand-children, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, 1 son, 1 daughter, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Services were held in large house on Aug. 10, by Min. Enos Steury, New Haven, Ind., Min. Chriss Bontrager and home Bishop John Herschberger. In small house by Min. Edwin N Schrock and Bish. Dan Miller. Burial in Miller Cemetery southeast of Arthur.

STERN, Phares
1883-1974

Phares was born 6-24-1883 in Mt. Joy Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. to Christian M. and Maggie Keener Stern.

He attended the local one room school.  Phares worked on his father's farm as a young man, and then entered farming for himself on the original Stern farm, located on Trail Road in Mt. Joy Twp.  He farmed for many years and raised his family here.  In later years, he built a small house on the property, and sold the farm to his daughter and son-in-law, Robert J. & Edna Eby Stern Reichard.  He then worked for the Highway Dept. until retirement.

On May 25, 1905, he married Mary Emma Eby, daughter of Henry S. & Catherine Peters Eby.

Mary Emma preceded him in death on January 1, 1956.  He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Emma Catherine in 1926.

Survivors include children; Margaret Eby (Harry) Geib, Edna Eby (Robert J.) Reichard, Abner Christian (Georgetta Lichty) Stern, Marie Kathryn (Earl C.)  Wolf; and 18 grandchildren.

He attended Risser Mennonite Church. In his later years, after his wife's death, he moved into Elizabethtown and remained there until he became ill.  He died in a nursing home in Columbia Pa. on December 5, 1974.

The funeral was held at Frank Miller Funeral Home, Elizabethtown, Pa., and burial was in Risser Mennonite Church Cemetery, Elizabethtown, Pa.
