Eby, -- Salome Catherine, daughter of the late Abram and Mary Catherine Denlinger, was born in Lancaster Co., Pa., March 15, 1866; died at Scottdale, Pa., Dec. 21, 1949, of a heart condition; aged 83 y. 9 m. 6 d. In 1885 she was married to Abram Eby, who survives. Also surviving are 3 children (Willis, Bethlehem, Pa.; Alta-Mrs. Paul Erb, Scottdale, Pa.; Elmer, Reading, Pa.), one brother (John, Ronks, Pa.), 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Her parents, 3 brothers, and one sister preceded her in death. As a young woman she accepted Christ and joined the Mennonite Church, remaining faithful until her death. In 1925 she moved with her husband from Lancaster Co., to Gulfport, Miss. They lived there until their retirement in 1942, when they moved to Goshen, Ind., and later to Scottdale, Pa. Funeral services were conducted at the Scottdale Mennonite Church, Dec. 23 by A.J. Metzler and John L. Horst. Interment was made in the Scottdale cemetery.
Gascho, -- Barbara Erb was born in Wilmot Twp., Waterloo Co., Ont., April 23, 1866; died at her home in Zurich, Ont., Oct. 10, 1949; aged 83 y. 5 m. 18 d. On Oct. 20, 1885, she was united in marriage to Joseph Gascho who predeceased her Jan. 23, 1949. To this union were born 5 sons and 3 daughters, who survive. She was a faithful member of the Zurich Mennonite Church from the time of its organization in 1909. Funeral services were held at the Zurich Church, conducted by H.E. Roppel and Oscar Burkholder. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
Grieser, --- Rachel, daughter of Menno L. and Mattie (Kennel) Erb, was born June 6, 1893 at O'Neill, Nebr., passed away at the Logan Valley Hospital, Pender, Nebr., Oct. 25, 1949; aged 56 y. 4 m. 19 d. Death was caused by a heart disease; she spent a large part of the last year in the hospital. On Oct. 10, 1911, she was united in marriage to Jacob Grieser, of Beemer, Nebr., who survives. Also surviving are 7 children (Mrs. Mattie Miller, Pender, Nebr.; Joseph, Broken Bow, Nebr.; Mrs. Lois Kauffman, Mrs. Rose Wittrig, and Dale of Beemer; Mrs. Bessie Hargis, Denver, Colo.; and Allan, Milford, Nebr.), 5 brothers (Chris, John, and David, Frazee, Minn.; Mose, Geneva, Nebr.; and Menno, Wakefield, Nebr.) and 13 grandchildren. Her parents, one sister (Katie Bellar) and one daughter (Clarice Anne) preceded her in death. In youth she accepted Christ and united with the Mennonite Church, of which she was a faithful attendant as long as health permitted. Funeral services were held Oct. 27 at the home by P. O. Oswald and at the Plum Creek Mennonite Church by J. W. Birky and Sam Oswald. Interment was made in the Beemer Cemetery.
Hooks, --Andrew John, son of Joseph Hooks, was born March 25, 1886, in Indiana; died at the home of his daughter (Mrs. Ray Graefe) Aug. 29, 1949; aged 83 y. 5 m. 4 d. In 1894 he was united in marriage to Clara Ogburn who survives. For a number of years they lived near Kenmare, N. Dak., where he farmed and worked in a coal mine. He was converted and received into the Spring Valley Mennonite Church near Kenmare, in which faith he died. Surviving besides his wife are 2 sons (Amos, Saxis, Va.; Claude, Westover, Md.), 6 daughters (Dessie-Mrs. Leslie Kauffman and Bessie-Mrs. Dan Kauffman, twins, Kalispell, Mont.; Ruth-Mrs. Ray Graefe, Pocomoke City, Md.; Myrtle, Annapolis, Md.; Edith-Mrs. Raymond Long, Princess Anne, Md.; and Alice-Mrs. Carroll Phillips, Pocomoke City), 22 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Two daughters (Lela and Katie) preceded him in death. In 1919 he and most of the family moved to Westover, Md., where he farmed. Funeral services were held at the Holly Grove Mennonite Church in charge of Isaac Mast, his former bishop, assisted by Amos C. King, and George M. Hostetler. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
Musser, --Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Henry S. and Verna (Stauffer) Musser, was born Aug. 19, 1949; passed away Oct. 15, 1949; aged 1 m. 26 d. Death followed a brief illness. Hershberger, -- Henry Enos Hershberger, was born June 16, 1861, in Stark Co., near Louisville, Ohio; departed this life Nov. 15,1949; aged 88 y. 4 m. 29 d. He was married to Fannie Rohrer, a member of the Mennonite Mission Church of Canton, Ohio, who preceded him Sept. 6, 1944. Surviving him are 2 daughters (Mrs. Milton Bosler, Carrolton, Ohio and Mrs. Eva Finley, Louisville, Ohio), 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one sister (Mrs. Laura Sell, East Canton, Ohio). His wife who was a daughter of the late Bishop Michael Rohrer, was largely responsible for the founding of the Canton Mission by her pleas to the conference. Funeral services were conducted at the Siuss Funeral Home in Louisville, Ohio, in charge of J. J. Hostetler.
Hostetter, -- Samuel Elias, son of Jacob and Mary (Weikert) Hostetter, was born near Hanover, Pa., Sept. 21, 1868; died after a lingering illness of several years at his home in Denbigh, Va., Nov. 12, 1949; aged 81 y. 1 m. 20 d. On Sept. 3, 1895, he was married to Catherine Kornhaus, who preceded him in death in March 1949. Two sons (Joseph, an infant; and David also preceded him in death.) Surviving are 3 sons (John J., Harrisonburg, Va.; Samuel F., Denbigh, Va.; and Amos B., Linville, Va.), 9 daughters (Anna-Mrs. John H. Alger, Broadway, Va.; Mary-Mrs. Joseph Conner, Kalispell, Mont.; Emma, Ida, Nora, at home; Sarah-Mrs. B. Franklin Weber, Lititz, Pa.; Ada-Mrs. Milford R. Hertzler, Denbigh, Va.; Edith-Mrs. Richard E. Martin, Harrisonburg, Va.), one sister (Mrs. Aaron Burkholder, Ephrata, Pa.), and 27 grandchildren. He was converted under the ministry of John S. Coffman and united with the church of Roseland, La. In 1915 he moved with his family to Denbigh, Va., in order to have adequate church privileges. In 1922 he was ordained to the office of deacon for the Warwick River congregation. Faithful to this charge, he dropped any secular affairs to care for the needy, the sick, or any other church responsibilities. His home and time were freely given to the ministers when came to serve to community from time to time. Because of failing health he asked to be relieved of these responsibilities during the last years of his life. Funeral services were held at the Warwick River Church on Nov. 12, with Truman Brunk and William Jennings in charge. Text: I Thess. 4: 14.
King, -- Anna, daughter of Peter and Barbara (Neuhauser) Smith, was born near Congerville, Ill., Aug. 4, 1863; passed away at the Bethel Hospital, Newton, Kans., Nov. 25, 1949; aged 86 y. 3 m. 21 d. In 1885 she was married to Samuel B. King and moved from Illinois to Kansas, where they found their home near Larned. Ten years later they located on a farm near Hesston, which was their home until the time of her husband's death in 1942, after which she lived with her daughter (Mrs. Ephraim Risser). Theirs was a happy home, where many relatives and friends found hospitality. At the age of fifteen she was converted and was a sincere and faithful member of the Mennonite Church from her youth. After moving to Hesston, however, she learned a deeper love for God and His Word and for the souls of mankind. She was always ready to testify to the deep peace and assurance of salvation which she enjoyed and which she cherished for others. A faithful attendant at all church services, she served as Sunday-school teacher at the Pennsylvania Church for more than forty years. She maintained a keen interest in Christian missions and daily interceded in this behalf. In addition to her husband, she was preceded by her eldest son (Ezra). Surviving are 8 children (Emma Risser, Hesston, Kans.; Frank, Chicago, Ill.; Elmer, Eureka, Ill.; Grace Shellenberger, Wichita, Kans.; Alvin, Hesston, Kans.; Samuel, Dhamtari, C.P., India; Chauncey, River Falls, Wis.; and Bessie Yoder, Kalona, Iowa), 24 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one sister (Mrs. J. P. Oyler, St. Johns, Mich.), and a brother (C. H. Smith, Eureka, Ill.). Funeral services were conducted at the home by O. O. Hershberger and at the Pennsylvania Church Nov. 27. Interment was made in the Pennsylvania Cemetery.
Rittenhouse, -- Christopher Eugene, son of Christopher Culp Rittenhouse and Elizabeth Lapp, was born Jan. 22, 1888, in S. Cayuga Twp., Haldimand, Co., Ont., on the farm where he resided all his life; died Nov. 22, 1949; aged 61 y. 10 m. In 1911 he was married to Ena Hoover, who survives. Also surviving are sons (Christian, Waterloo, Ont.; Cyril, Dunnville, Ont.; Clarence, Humberstone, Ont.; Stanley, Port Colborn, Ont.; and Samuel, at home), 2 sisters (Mrs. John Kriter, S. Cayuga, Ont.; and Elsie Hoover, Los Angeles, Calif.) and 6 grandchildren. In October, 1928, he was converted and received by baptism into the Mennonite Church at Cayuga, where he continued as an active member. The church will miss his ready counsel and service. Funeral services were conducted by A. Lewis Fretz and S. F. Coffman who brought a message to the large group from Rom. 1: 16. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
Snyder, --Mary, daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Bowman) Groff, was born Aug. 15, 1864, near Waterloo, Ont.; died Nov. 22, 1949, after a short illness; aged 85 y. 3 m. 7 d. In her youth she confessed Christ as her Saviour and united with the Mennonite Church, remaining a loyal member until death. On May 17, 1891, she was united in marriage to Absalom B. Snyder, pastor of the Wanner congregation for many years, who predeceased her in 1936. She was much appreciated for her positive spirit and victorious Christian life. Surviving are 2 sons and 3 daughters (Oliver A., Hespeler, Ont.; Edward G., Preston, Ont.; Edna-Mrs. Chester Buschert, Preston; Ida-Mrs. Norman Snider, Elmira, Ont.; Emma, Hamilton, Ont.), and 13 grandchildren. One daughter (Martha-Mrs. Nelson Bechtel) predeceased her. Funeral services were held Nov. 25 at the Wanner Church, in charge of Merle Shantz. Text: Ps. 23: 1. Harold Groh, J. W. Witmer, and Manasseh Hallman assisted in the service. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Weaver, -- Joel S., son of John B. and Lydia (Blosser) Weaver, was born in Union Twp., Elkhart Co., Ind., Jan. 15, 1889; passed away Nov. 24, 1949; aged 60 y. 10 m. 9 d. On Dec. 23, 1912, he was united in marriage to Emma Lehman, who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters (Evangeline-Mrs. Charles Stouder and Verna-Mrs. Ray Hartman), 3 sisters (Cora Weaver, Mary-Mrs. William Ramer, and Effie-Mrs. Henry Bechtel), 4 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death in early childhood and one son (Joel Jr.) in 1949. On Nov. 8, 1919, he and his wife united with the Salem Mennonite Church and gave many years of faithful service. Funeral services were conducted by F. E. Freed and R. F. Yoder Nov. 27 at the Yellow Creek Church. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Weaver, --Ruth Ann, daughter of Lester T. and Helen (Metzler) Weaver, was born Aug. 21, 1949; passed away at her home, near Columbia, Pa., Nov. 16, 1949; aged 2 m. 26 d. Death was caused by accidental suffocation. Surviving are her parents, 5 brothers and sisters (Robert D., Miriam J., J. Clair, Dale L., and David L., all at home). Funeral services were held Nov.20 at the home and at the Christian Street Church, Lancaster, Pa., in charge of J. S. Lehman. Text Job 1: 21. Burial was made in the Mellinger Cemetery.
Werner, -- Maynard R. Werner, son of the late George Werner and Catherine Hoover, was born in Rainham Twp., near Fisherville, Ont., Jan. 25, 1877; died suddenly, at London, Ont., Nov. 22, 1949; aged 72 y. 9 m. 27 d. He spent a few years in Hamilton and Detroit, and lived about twenty-five years in London. A carpenter by trade, he was retired for the last four years; he spent the recent years with his son (Kirvin), in whose home he passed away. On Sept. 2, 1903, he was married to Nettie Yager, of Rainham, Ont., who predeceased him eleven years ago. As a young man he was converted and became a member of the Rainham Mennonite Church, where he was active in the Sunday school for some time. Surviving are his son (Kirvin, London, Ont.), 2 sisters (Selina-Mrs. Frank Schissler, Kitchener, Ont.; and Alma-Mrs. Alvin Culp, Vineland, Ont.), 2 brothers (Milton and Myron, Rainham, Ont.), 2 grandchildren, and a large number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Rainham Church by S. F. Coffman and A. Lewis Fretz, who brought the message from I Sam. 20: 3. Burial was made in the Selkirk Union Cemetery.
Wolf, -- Anna H., daughter of the late John and Annie (Stauffer) Hess, was born July 20, 1867, at Lincoln, Pa.; passed away Nov. 23, 1949, at the home of her daughter, Akron, Pa.; aged 82 y. 4 m. 3 d. On April 8, 1884, she was united in marriage to Albert N. Wolf, who preceded her in death March 31, 1939. A year later she became very ill with heart trouble, from which she never fully recovered. She was a member of the Ephrata Mennonite Church, and had been active in the Sunday school and sewing circle. Her patience and cheerfulness endeared her to all who helped to care for her. She was the last survivor of her immediate family, and is survived by one daughter (Etta-Mrs. Orie O. Miller, Akron, Pa.), 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. One son died in infancy. Funeral services were conducted at the home by Mahlon Zimmerman and at the church by Melvin Lauver and Ernest E. Miller. Burial was made in the Wolf Cemetery.

On Dec. 7, 1933, he was united in marriage to Anna Bauman, who survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters (Eleanor Fern, Melba Ruth, and Treva Anna), his parents, two brothers (Home and Clarence), 3 sisters (Martha-Mrs. Phares Zimmerman, Anna, and Magdalene-Mrs. Harold Weaver), all of Wakarusa, Ind.; and many other relatives and friends. On Oct. 18, 1904, she was united in marriage to Abraham D. Miller, who passed away Dec. 13, 1938. Surviving are 6 children (Perry, Earl, Ina-Mrs. M. E. Miller, Martin, Amanda, at home, and Louella-Mrs. Wilbur Yoder, all of Midland, Mich.), 3 stepchildren (Dan, Wooster, Ohio; David, Elkhart, Ind.; and Ida-Mrs. Asa Hostettler, Louisville Ohio), 22 grandchildren, 17 stepgrandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 6 sisters (Abbie-Mrs. Albert Wyse, Midland, Mich.; Lucinda-Mrs. Ira Baer, Remus, Mich.; Jemima-Mrs. Ephraim Greiser, Mary Ann-Mrs. Norman Schlonger, Archbold, Ohio; Amanda-Mrs. Joe Beck, Wauseon, Ohio; Cora-Mrs.Emanuel Sauder, Archbold, Ohio). One infant son (Floyd) and 3 brothers preceded her in death. In 1890 she accepted Christ as her Saviour and untied with the Mennonite Church, remaining faithful until death. She was faithful in church attendance, for many years served as Sunday-school teacher, and was very much concerned about the spiritual welfare of her children. On Aug. 20, 1947, she suffered a stroke, from which she never recovered sufficiently to enjoy good health . Funeral services were held at the Midland Mennonite Church on Dec. 6, conducted by Floyd Bontrager, and at the Central Church, Archbold, Ohio, on Dec. 7, conducted by Walter Stuckey and Jesse Short. Reber, -- Joel D., son of David D. and Mary (Swartzendruber) Reber, was born in Johnson Co., Iowa, Nov. 27, 1876; died at his home near Wellman, Iowa, Dec. 4, 1949; aged 73 y. 7 d. In 1897, he was baptized by Jacob F. Swartzendruber and became a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite congregation, retaining his church fellowship until death. On Nov. 18, 1900, he was married to Barbara Miller, who survives. Also surviving are 6 children (Katie-Mrs. Art Schweitzer, Wellman, Iowa; Mary-Mrs. Nick Gascho, Pigeon, Mich.; Bertha-Mrs. Maynard Brenneman, and Maynard, both of Kalona, Iowa; Harold, Davenport, Iowa; and Lester, Kalona, Iowa.), one aged aunt, 3 brothers (Joseph, Shelbyville, Ill.; George, Iowa City, Iowa; and Noah, Milford, Nebr.), 3 sisters (Barbara-Mrs. William Detweiler, Oxford, Iowa; Lizzie, widow of Edward Schmucker, and Nancy-Mrs. Guy Weidlein, both of Wellman, Iowa), 7 grandchildren, 5 stepgrandchildren, and many other friends. About twelve years ago he and his wife moved to Daytonville. Death resulted from a weakened heart following pneumonia, which he contracted a week before. Rosenberger. --- Isaiah S., eldest son of the Isaac and Elizabeth (Shantz) Rosenberger, was born in Oxford Co., Ont., Aug. 15, 1867; died at his late home in Beamsville, Ont., Nov. 28, 1949; aged 82 y. 3 m. 13 d. Death followed a paralytic stroke, which he had suffered two weeks previously. On Sept. 29, 1891, he was united in marriage to Persida Shantz, who preceded him in death in May, 1938. Of the children born to this union, eight survive. On Aug. 19, 1945, he was united in marriage to Nancy (Cressman) Moyer, Beamsville, Ont., who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons (Chester, Nipawin, Sask.; David, Guernsey, Sask.), 5 daughters (Ada-Mrs. Hawse, Guernsey, Ont.; Clista, Kitchener, Ont.; Leona-Mrs. Leighton Schmidt, Petersburg, Ont.; and Alda, Chicago, Ill.), 19 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother (Emery, New Dundee, Ont.), and 2 sisters (Mrs. Norman Shantz, Haysville, Ont.; and Elsie, New Dundee, Ont.). He was a member of the Blenheim congregation, near New Dundee, Ont., where he was ordained to the ministry as a helper of the late Joseph Nahgang, in 1897. He served as pastor of the congregation until 1908, when he moved to Guernsey, Sask. There he served until 1936, when he returned to Ontario. He renewed his fellowship with the Blenheim congregation, where he remained a member until death. His fellowship and service with the Vineland congregation was greatly appreciated during the time of his residence in Beamsville, Ont. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 1 at the last residence in Beamsville, and at the Blenheim Church by C. C. Cressman, Daniel Schlabach, and S. F. Coffman. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Shank. Mary, daughter of the late David and Esther Byer, was born near Markham, Ont., June 22, 1867; passed away at her home Nov. 29, 1949; aged 82 y. 5 m. 7 d. On Oct. 7, 1884, she was married to William Shank, who predeceased her Feb. 2, 1937. Surviving are 4 sons (David, Eli, Jacob, Oliver), 2 daughters (Mabel and Nancy), 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and her twin sister (Elisabeth Byer). One son, (Ralph) and 3 daughters (Elizabeth, Ida, and Elsie) also predeceased her. She was a member of the Brethren in Christ Church near Gormley, and was faithful until death. She was a loving and devoted mother and friend. Funeral services were held at the Wideman Mennonite Church, in charge of Alvin Winger and A. D. Grove. Interment was made in the Byer Cemetery.
Yoder.--- Laura Belle, daughter of James and Sarah Yoder, was born Aug. 26, 1930, at Chappell, Nebr.; departed from this life at her home; aged 19 y. 3 m. 9 d. In 1948 she graduated from the Deuel County High School and in June of that year enrolled in the Electronic Radio-Television Institute in Omaha, Nebr. Completed her work there in August 1948, she accepted a position at the Deul County State Bank, where she was employed until she became ill Aug. 17, 1949. She attended the Mennonite Church and Sunday school and had accepted Christ as her Saviour. She gave a bright testimony of her faith in Christ and happy anticipation of the heavenly home. Surviving are her parents, one sister (Doris-Mrs. Harry Ewing), one nephew, and many other relatives and friends. One brother (Millard) preceded her in death. She had a pleasing personality and was cheerful throughout her illness. Funeral services were held at the Chappell Mennonite Church, conducted by E. M. Yost, John Roth, and Fred Gingerich. Bender. Magdalena, daughter of the late Christian and Anna (Roth) Ruby, was born in East Zorra Twp., near Tavistock, Ont., June 12, 1884; passed away at her late home in New Hamburg, Ont., Nov. 20, 1949; aged 65 y. 5 m. 3 d. On Jan. 19, 1905, she was united in marriage to Noah S. Bender, who survives. Also surviving are 9 children (Melvin, Ailsa Craig, Ont.; Elton, Varna, Ont; Reuben, Curtis, Ervin, Ezra, all of New Hamburg; Verda, at home; Fannie-Mrs. Reuben Gingerich, Ailsa Craig; Mary-Mrs. Curtis Ginergerich, Zurich, Ont.), 20 grandchildren, and 2 brothers (John, Ontario; and Eli, New Mexico). In her youth she became a servant of the Lord and united with the Amish Mennonite Church. Her life was one of unselfish devotion to her Master. She was a loving mother and a wise counselor. In 1947 she suffered from a paralytic condition which affected her speech. Funeral services were held Nov. 23 at the home by Elmer Schwartzentruber and at the Steiman Church by Peter Nafziger, Jesse J. Short, and Moses O. Jantzi.
Bergeron.--- Lize Griffen was born July 6, 1892; departed from this life as the result of a paralytic stroke, Nov. 3, 1949; aged 57 y. 3 m. 27 d. On Jan. 5, 1909, she was married to Adam Bergeron. To this union were born 11 children (Mrs. Joe Monier, Sr., Alex, Mrs. Clifton LeBlanc, Mrs. Sidney Hymel, Mrs. Hamilton Arceneaux, Jr., Mrs. Clarence Champagne, Felix, Lucien, Lucielle, Mrs. Huger Arceneaux, Percy). In 1947 she became a member of the Mennonite Church, along with three of her children, and maintained a good testimony until death. Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Clarence Champagne and at the Christ Sanctified Church, in charge of John E. Wenger and Henry J. Tregle II. Burial was made in the Mennonite Cemetery.
Blough. Lydia A., daughter of Joseph and Christiana (Stayrook) Blough, was born in Wayne Co., Ohio, Jan. 21, 1863; died at her home in Middlebury, Ind., Nov. 27, 1949; aged 86 y. 10 m. 6 d. As a small child she moved with her parents to Elkhart Co., Ind. On Feb. 8, 1885, she was married to David Mast, who died at La Junta, Colo., June 1910. On Aug. 12, 1937, she was married to David S. Derstine. --- Sarah Bewinghouse was born in Bucks Co., Pa., Dec. 16, 1879; died July16, 1949; aged 69 y. 7 m. On Dec. 16, 1899, she was married to Abram L. Derstine. No children were born to this union; but 2 foster sons and one daughter were raised in the home. On March 20, 1898, she joined the Mennonite Church, Deep Run, Bucks Co., Pa., and was a faithful member until death. She took great interest in sewing circle work and was always present at church services when she was able. Her husband preceded her in death in September 1946. Funeral services were held July 20 at the home of Mahlon and Maggie Rice, in charge of Wilson Overholt and at the Deep Run Church by Abram Yothers and Erwin Nace. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Gingerich. Susannah, daughter of the late Nicholas and Veronica (Gascho) Wagler, was born in Wilmot Twp., Ont., March 15, 1877; died at her home, in Baden, Ont., Sept. 28, 1949; aged 72 y. 6 m. 13 d. On March 20, 1900, she was united in marriage to Aaron Gingerich, who predeceased her Feb. 1, 1942. Surviving are 2 sons (Isaiah, Wilmot, Ont.; Elmer, Baden.) 4 daughters (Lavina, at home; Emma-Mrs. Chris O. Erb, Wellesley, Ont.; Laura-Mrs. Isaac Ruby, Tavistock, Ont.; and Mabel-Mrs. Henry Wagler, Shakespeare, Ont.), 16 grandchildren, one brother (Menno Wagler, Baden, Ont.), and one sister (Mrs. Rebecca Bender, New Hamburg, Ont.). One grandchild and one sister (Mrs. David R. Bender) preceded her in death. In her youth she accepted Christ as her Saviour and became a faithful member of the Steinman A.M. Church near Baden. In failing health the last year, from a heart condition she spent much of her time reading God's Word. Death followed a three-day illness. Funeral services were held Sept. 30 at her home by Ben Gingerich and at the Steiman Church by Peter Nafziger and Moses O. Jantzi. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Halterman. Andrew, son of the late Montgomery and Martha Halterman, was born near Mathias, W. Va., April 5, 1884; died at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va., Nov. 26, 1949; aged 65 y. 7 m. 21 d. Death resulted from a stroke of paralysis, which he suffered while driving alone in his car. He was married to Mary Riggleman, who died in 1938. Surviving are 4 children (William, Edna-Mrs. Walter Roadcap, Martha-Mrs. William Fritz, and Florence-Mrs. William Shoemaker, all of Pottstown, Pa.), 2 sisters (Mrs. Mary Caplinger and Mrs. Loy Reedy), and 2 brothers (William and Noah). In his mature years he united with the Mennonite Church and was a member of the Mt. Hermon congregation. Funeral services were held Nov. 29 at the Riverside Church, near Fulk's Run, Va., in charge of Timothy Showalter and Linden M. Wenger. Burial was made in the near-by cemetery.
Huber. --- Simon M., son of the late Jonas and Susan Huber, was born near New Providence, Lancaster Co., Pa., Sept. 4, 1877; passed away at his home, Millersville, Pa., after a two-week illness, Nov. 24, 1949; aged 72 y. 2 m. 20 d. On Nov. 28, 1901, he was united in marriage to Ella Nora Meck, who survives. Also surviving are 5 sons and 2 daughters (George M., Clarence J., Clyde M., Roy S., Clayton M., Myrtle-Mrs. John A. Burkholder, Emma-Mrs. J. Ivan Sollenberger), one brother, one sister, 24 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. One infant daughter preceded him in death. He was a faithful member of the Millersville Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held at the late home and at the Millersville Church, in charge of Landis Shertzer and Jacob Hess. Kulp. Laura E., daughter of the late Abraham and Rebecca C. Burkholder, was born Sept. 8, 1881, near Harrisonburg, Rockingham Co., Va.; died Nov. 25, 1949; aged 68 y. 2 m. 17 d. Death occurred suddenly, as the result of internal hemorrhage. Early in life she accepted her Saviour and was a consistent and active church member until death, having served as church correspondent and Sunday-school teacher. On Feb. 11, 1913, she was united in marriage to Isaac H. Kulp, who survives. Also surviving are 2 brothers (S. W., Riverside, Iowa; and A.F., Waynesboro, Va.), and one sister (Lessie L. Carver, Gravois Mills, Mo.). One brother and one sister predeceased her in infancy. Funeral services were conducted at the Springdale Church, Waynesboro, Va., by C. M. Grove and J. R. Driver. Lindemuth, -- Emily, daughter of the late John and Kate (Meckley) Lindemuth, was born Sept. 3, 1869; passed away Nov. 13, 1949; aged 80 y. 2 m. 10 d. She was a member of the Risser Mennonite Church, Elizabethtown, Pa. Surviving are 2 sisters (Katie Lindemuth, Mt. Joy, Pa.; Mrs. Edith Moore, Canton, Ohio), and 2 brothers (Walter, Harrisburg, Pa.; and Samuel Lindemuth, Mt. Joy, Pa.). Funeral services were held Nov. 16 at the home and at the Risser Church by Noah W. Risser and Walter Oberholtzer. Text: II Cor. 5:1. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Martin. Amos S., son of the late Jeremiah and Emma (Sensenig) Martin, was born in Lancaster Co., Pa., Jan. 5, 1893; passed away at his home, East Earl, Pa., Nov. 19, 1949; aged 56 y. 10 m. 14 d. On Dec. 8, 1914, he was married to Anna Newsanger, who survives. Also surviving are 2 children (Edna-Mrs. John H. Weaver, New Holland, Pa.; and Edwin, East Earl, Pa.), one foster son (Noah B. Weaver, East Earl, Pa.), 4 grandchildren, 6 brothers, and 4 sisters (Ivan, Emma-Mrs. Eli Zimmerman, Ezra, Frances-Mrs. Ephraim Zimmerman, Anna-Mrs. William Weaver, Jeremiah, Ella-Mrs. Moses Weiler, Aaron, Paul, and Eli). From his youth he was a member of the Mennonite Church. On Aug. 13, 1931, he was ordained to the office of deacon, which office he very ably filed until death. He was a wise counselor and one whose friendly greeting and warm handclasp will be remembered by many. Martin. William, son of Ben and Lena (Oswald) Martin, was born June 26, 1887 at Hopedale, Ill.; passed away Oct. 29, 1949, at Valparaiso, Ind.; aged 62 y. 4 m. 3 d. On April 19, 1910, he was married to Amelia Birky, who preceded him in death June 27, 1936. To this union were born 2 sons and 5 daughters. On April 5, 1938, he was united in marriage to Mabel Good, who survives. Also surviving are a stepson (Roland, at home), 2 stepdaughters (Mrs. Leila Hostetler, Sarasota, Fla.; and Mrs. Madelyn Eichelberger, Kouts, Ind.), 2 sons (Lester, Kouts, Ind.; and Omar, Valparaiso, Ind.), 5 daughters (Mrs. Mary Baughman, Kouts; Mrs. Eva Owen, Valparaiso; Mrs. Lila Miller, Goshen, Ind.; Mrs. Verna Limberg, Port Huron, Mich.; and Mrs. Wilma Reinke, Cincinnati, Ohio), one sister (Mrs. Martha Egli, Hopedale, Ill.), 6 brothers (Christian, Peter, and Aaron, Hopedale, Ill.; Benjamin, Beemer, Nebr.; Arthur and Amos, Kouts, Ind.), 18 grandchildren, and a large number of other relatives and friends. One infant brother predeceased him. In 1917 he moved to Kouts, Ind. At an early age he united with the church; he was a charter member of the Hopewell congregation and was an active and interested member until death. His aim in life was to live at peace with all men, and his greatest concern, besides his family, was the welfare of the church. Mishler. Jacob W., son of William and Gertrude (Garber) Mishler, was born in Lagrange Co., Ind., April 13, 1860; passed away at the home of his daughter (Edna) Nov. 17, 1949; aged 89 y. 7 m. 4 d. On Sept. 12, 1880, he was united in marriage to Catherine Miller, who preceded him in death eight years ago. One daughter (Ida May-Mrs. Menno C. Miller) and 9 grandchildren predeceased him, one child a few hours previously. Surviving are 4 children (Wilma Grace-Mrs. Levi R. Yoder, Barbara Ellen-Mrs. Olen Yoder, Edna Ethel-Mrs. Earl Karn, all of Lagrange Co.; and Roy F., Yucaipa, Calif.), 2 sisters (Mrs. Polly Miller, Nampa, Idaho; and Mrs. U. Y. Miller, Shipshewana, Ind.), 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church, although he could not attend services the last years. He was cheerful and kind, a loving father and grandfather who made his home with his children after his wife's death. Roth. Joseph P., son of Daniel and Catherine (Ropp) Roth, passed away at the home in Morton, Ill., Nov. 26, 1949; aged 91 y. 8 m. Death resulted from a fall, caused by a hemorrhage of the brain. In early life he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and remained a faithful member of the Mennonite Church until death. On Feb. 6, 1881, he was married to Amelia Ropp, who passed away in 1892. Two years later he married Elizabeth Ropp, who passed away nine years ago. Surviving are 4 children (Mina E., Edwin J., Austin D., and Wilbur J.), 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters (D.K., Gibson City, Ill.; Mrs. Mary Teuscher, Fisher, Ill.; Samuel and Amelia, Morton, Ill.). Two brothers and 4 sisters are deceased. His entire life was spent in the vicinity of Morton, Ill., where he was interested in farming and agriculture. He was kind and devoted. Funeral services were held at his home Nov. 29 and at the Morton Mennonite Church, in charge of N. N. Roeshley and Joe Davis. Burial was made in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Shreiner. Lester E., son of the late Harry E.
Shreiner and Catherine (Erb) Shreiner, was born
near Lititz, Pa., May 23, 1914; passed away Nov. 16, 1949; aged
35 y. 5 m. 24 d. Death resulted instantly when he accidently fell
from a tree. On Jan. 1, 1941, he was united in marriage to Fannie
Longenecker, who survives. Also surviving are 4 children
(Robert Lee, John Lester, Fannie Lois, and James Elwood), his
mother, 2 sisters (Mrs. Elmer Huber and Mrs. Paul Hess), one brother
(Henry E.) and a large number of other relatives and friends.
In early youth he was converted and joined the Mennonite Church,
of which he remained a faithful member until death. He was a member
of the Bossler congregation. His testimony was clear and his frequent
prayers a great inspiration, especially to his immediate family.
His early departure is a challenge to more devoted service and
obedience to God. Funeral services were held at the late home
Nov. 20, in charge of Joseph Boll, and at the Bossler Church,
in charge of Martin R. Kraybil and Noah W. Risser. Interment was
made in the adjoining cemetery.

Weaver. Ernest R., son of Martin and Bertha (Bookwalter) Weaver, Carlisle, Pa., was born in Cumberland Co., Pa., Oct. 30, 1908; departed from this life at the Harrisburg Pa., Hospital Nov. 17, 1949; aged 41 y. 18 d. Death resulted from cancer of the lung. On April 10, 1943, he was united in marriage to Fannie Cable, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter (Linda Ann), a son (Mark C., at home), his parents, 2 sisters (Mrs. Owen Zimmerman, Shiremanstown, Pa.; and Viola Weaver, Carlisle, Pa.), and 3 brothers (Samuel R., Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Chester M., and Joseph M., both of Carlisle, Pa.). In his youth he united with the Slate Hill Mennonite Church, remaining a faithful member until death. Funeral services were held at the Slate Hill Church Nov. 20, with Simon Bucher and local ministers officiating. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Barrett. --- Clara E. Barrett, passed away at the home of her daughter (Mrs. Glen Romaine) Dec. 4, 1949. She had been suffering from heart trouble for several years. She with her husband, now deceased united with the Mennonite Church, Dec. 6, 1936, and remained faithful until death. Funeral services were held at the Iowa City Mennonite Mission Dec. 7, with D. J. Diller. --- Samuel S., son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth (Brenneman) Diller, was born July 2, 1868; departed from this life Dec. 12, 1949; aged 81 y. 5 m. 10 d. He had been in failing health the last two years and was bedfast for two weeks. On Aug. 9, 1888, he was married to Lydia A. Brenneman, who survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters (Bertha-Mrs. Ancil Showalter, La Junta, Colo.; Nancy-Mrs. Samuel Blosser, Bluffton, Ohio; Mrs. Orlo Bixel, Comins, Mich.), 20 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Three sons (Joseph and two infants) preceded him in death. In his youth he united with the Mennonite Church and was a faithful member until death. He was a kind companion and loving father. Funeral services were held at the home at the Pike Church, Elida, Ohio, by Elmer E. Yoder, assisted by Andrew Brenneman. Burial was made in the Salem Mennonite Cemetery.
Eshleman. --- Maria Bear was born near Landisville, Lancaster Co., Pa., Aug. 6, 1856; died Dec. 12, 1949; aged 93 y. 4 m. 6 d. On May 10, 1877, she was married to Jacob Eshleman. In young years they united with the Miller Mennonite Church, near Leitersburg, Md., to which she was faithful until death. For a number of years she taught a primary Sunday-school class. After farming on her father-in-law's farm near Reid, she and her husband moved to Hagerstown, Md., to care for her parents. After the death of her son (Adam) she helped to care for his five children. Another son (Jones) preceded her in death in his youth. Surviving are her husband, 2 daughters (Emma, widow of Levin Martin, and Fannie-Mrs. Noah Martin), 7 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and many friends. She was a faithful and devoted wife and mother, always ready to help in the community when she was needed. She and her husband had opened their home to an orphan boy (Edgar Willhide). The last five years she and her husband made their home with their daughter (Fannie), where she died, after a week's illness. Funeral services were held Dec. 16 at the home by Amos Martin and at the Paradise Church by Daniel Strite and Harvey Shank. Text: Isa. 38: 1.
Godshalk. --- Sally L., daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Leatherman) Shelly, was born in Buckingham Twp., Pa., March 5, 1865; passed away Dec. 30, 1949, at the home of her daughter; aged 84 y. 9 m. 25 d. On Sept. 20, 1884, she was married to William G. Godshalk, who passed away June 27, 1898. In her youth she united with the Doylestown Mennonite Church, of which she remained a faithful member until death. She attended services regularly and was very much interested in the sewing circle. Surviving are one daughter (Bertha-Mrs. John D. Myers, Doylestown, Pa.), 2 sons (Charles M., Doylestown, and Horace S., Chalfont, Pa.), 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers (Jacob Shelly, Quarkerstown, Pa.; and George Shelly, Dublin, Pa.). Three children preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at Doylestown Mennonite Church Jan. 2 by Joseph Gross and Silas Graybill. Text: Isa. 46: 4. Good. --- Rebecca, daughter of Elias and Susannah (Shantz) Eby, was born near Floradale, Ont., May 17, 1872; passed away Dec. 17, 1949, a patient in the Watrous Union Hospital; aged 77 y. 7 m. Death was caused by a broken leg which she suffered in a fall eleven days previously. On March 17, 1895, she was married to Noah M. Good, Floradale, Ont., who survives. To this union were born 6 children (Vera-Mrs. Irvin Gingerich, Alvin , Ivan, Laura, Myrl-Mrs. Alfred Bowman, and Violet-Mrs. Lincoln Shantz). One son (Ivan) died in infancy; the other children reside near Guernsey, Sask. Surviving besides her husband and 5 children are 11 grandchildren, one sister (Mrs. Rachel Morrison, Calgary, Alta.), and one brother (Jacob Eby, British Columbia). In 1906 the family moved from Floradale to Didsbury, Alta., where they lived fourteen years before moving to Guernsey, Sask. She was a faithful member of the Sharon Mennonite Church, Guernsey, having been baptized at the age of thirty-three in Ontario. Funeral services were conducted by Stanley D. Shantz. Harrington.--- Mary, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Trisinger, was born in Wakarusa, Ind., Sept. 9, 1859; died at her home in Wakarusa, Dec. 20, 1949; aged 90 y. 3 m. 11 d. On March 12, 1882, she was united in marriage to Jacob Harrington, of Wakarusa. In 1906 she and her husband were converted, united with the Holdeman congregation of the Mennonite Church. Death resulted from a stroke which she suffered Dec. 16. Her husband and one son (Forrest) preceded her in death. Surviving are 2 sons (Chester, Wakarusa; and Harry, Gary, Ind.), 3 daughters (Mrs. Edna Hunsperger, Wakarusa; Leota Dullinger, Elkhart, Ind.; and Cleo Burkhart, Wakarusa), 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at her late home and at the Olive Church by Silas Weldy and Warren Shaum. Burial was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Helmuth. Samuel D., son of John and Katie (Oesch) Helmuth, was born near Wheatland, Hickory Co., Mo., July 6, 1872; departed this life at his home, Harrisonville, Mo., after a short illness Dec. 5, 1949; aged 77 y. 4 m. 29 d. He had been in failing health the last two years. At the age of eight he moved with his parents to Garden City, Mo., where he lived until eighteen years ago, when he moved to Harrisonville. On Dec. 24, 1898, he was united in marriage to Nova Kauffman, who passed away Dec. 23, 1905. To this union were born three children (Rollie, Harrisonvillie, Mo.; Carroll, Garden City, Mo.; and a son who died in infancy). On March 5, 1907, he was united to Della Yoder, who survives. To this union were born 4 children (Glen, who passed away in 1947; Dorothy-Mrs. Saron Hendershot, Garden City, Mo.; Zola-Mrs. Hal C. Daniel, Jr., Houston, Texas; Donald, Palestine, Texas; and Florence-Mrs. Dan Kropf, Harrisonville, Mo.) Surviving besides his wife and 4 children are 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, one brother (W.E. Helmuth, Garden City), 3 sisters (Mrs. Edd Zimmerman, Mrs. Amanda Schrock, both of Garden City, Mo.; and Mrs. Emma Kauffman, Los Angels, Calif.), and a large number of nephews and nieces. Three brothers and 2 sisters predeceased him. In early manhood he united with the Mennonite Church and remained a faithful member until death. Funeral services were conducted at the Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church, in charge of W. R. Hershberger. Interment was made in the Clearfork Cemetery.
Huber. --- Rilla Alma, daughter of Albert and Mary (Lott) Crooks, was born July 25, 1880 near Middletown, Perry Co., Ohio; departed from this life Jan. 1, 1950; aged 69 y. 5 m. 6 d. On May 4, 1899, she was united in marriage to Amos Huber, who preceded her in death Sept. 28, 1949. One daughter (Rosa) and one sister (Jennie) also predeceased her. Surviving are 5 children (Pearly, Bremen, Ohio; Bertha-Mrs. John Blackston, Logan, Ohio; Inez-Mrs. Luther Boll, Junction City, Ohio; Irvin, Gore, Ohio; Isal-Mrs. Joseph Boll, Columbus, Ohio), 10 grandchildren, one sister (Mrs. Frank Poling, Elyria, Ohio), and one brother (Raymond Crooks, Lancaster, Ohio). She and her husband united with the Turkey Run Mennonite Church shortly after their marriage. They lived on the Huber farm near Maxville, Ohio, until about six years ago when because of failing health they moved to Bremen. She was very active and hospitable and was always busy ministering to others. Funeral services were conducted by William Miller and P.R. Lantz at the Turkey Run meetinghouse, Jan. 4. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Kulp.--- Isaac L., son of the late Joseph and Sara (Lapp) Kulp, was born in Bedminster Twp., Bucks Co., Pa., April 11, 1873; passed away Dec. 1, 1949; aged 76 y. 7 m. 20 d. On Dec. 28, 1898, he was married to Esther Bewighouse, who preceded him in death in January, 1947. A son also predeceased him. Surviving are 3 daughters, 2 sons, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and one sister. On June 7, 1896, he and his wife united with the Mennonite Church of Deep Run, of which he was faithful member until death. He became ill Dec. 24, 1948, and was able to be out of bed very little after that, because of heart trouble. He was a kind and faithful grandfather and brother in the church. Funeral services were held Dec. 4 at the Deep Run Mennonite Church, in charge of Wilson Overholt, Abram Yothers, and Ervin Nace. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Martin.--- Samuel B., son of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Horst) Martin, was born near Dalton, Ohio, June 17, 1855; departed from this life Dec. 10, 1949; aged 94 y. 5 m. 23 d. He lived in the vicinity of Dalton his entire life, having been engaged in the hardware business for about twenty years. In his youth he united with the Mennonite Church, of which he was a member for the remaining seventy-seven years of his life. One Jan. 21, 1877, he was united in marriage to Anna B. Hoover, New Holland, Pa., who preceded him in death Dec. 19, 1937. An infant daughter (Mary) also preceded him. Surviving are 7 children (Amos, New Holland, Pa.; Daniel, Dayton, Va.; Elizabeth-Mrs. Ezra Good, Esther-Mrs. Jesse Weaver, Minnie-Mrs. Reuben Horst, all of Dalton, Ohio; and Elam and Mrs. Emma Martin, of Orrville, Ohio), 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 13 at the County Line Church by Abram Good, Elmer Good, and Cleophas Steiner. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Oberholtzer.---Harry D., son of Abram and Sarah (Doutrich) Oberholtzer, was born June 15, 1890; passed away at the Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, Pa., Dec. 2, 1949; aged 59 y. 5 m. 7 d. Death followed an illness of a few weeks. He was united in marriage to Estella Haldeman, who survives. Also surviving are 6 children (Clarence, Mt. Joy, Pa.; Roy, Lititz, Pa.; Mildred-Mrs. William Cunningham, Elizabethtown, Pa.; Thelma, Marlin, and Almeda, all at home), 3 grandchildren, 5 brothers and 2 sisters (Christ, Elizabethtown, Pa.; Abram, Harrisonburg, Pa.; Eli, Palmyra, Pa.; John, East Petersburg, Pa.; Frank, Sioux Falls, S. Shank.--- Carolyn Mae, daughter of Marlin and Beulah (Frey) Shank, Clearspring, Md., was born Nov. 1, 1949; died Nov. 2, 1949, at the Waynesboro Hospital; aged 1 d. Surviving are her parents, 4 grandparents (David and Fannie Frey and Charles and Naomi Shank of Chambersburg, Pa.). Graveside services were held Nov. 3 at the Marion Mennonite Cemetery by J. Irvin Lehman.
Shantz. Norman, son of the late Daniel and Mary (Nahrgang) Shantz, was born near Haysville, Ont., Nov. 3, 1870; departed from this life Dec. 6, 1949; aged 79 y. 1 m. 3 d. In 1893 he was married to Mary Ann Rosenberger. To this union was born one son (Elmon, Kitchener, Ont.). In 1896 he was married to Emma Rosenberger, who survives. To this union were born 3 sons (Irvin and Leighton, New Hamburg, Ont.; Delton, Elmira, Ont.), and 6 daughters (Marion-Mrs. Omar Cressman, Plattsville, Ont.; Erra-Mrs. Walter Nahrgang, Ebenezer, N.Y.; Edith-Mrs. Melvin Cressman, Thorold, Ont.; Iona-Mrs. Joe Lies, Kitchener, Ont.; Reta-Mrs. Chris Brenneman, New Hamburg; and Erleen-Mrs. Walter Lies, Wellseley, Ont.). Surviving besides his wife and children, are 33 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, one brother (Simeon, New Hamburg, Ont.), and 2 sisters (Mrs. Ephraim Schmit, Baden, Ont.; and Mrs. John McKenzie, Kitchener, Ont.). About fifty years ago he accepted Christ as his Saviour during revivals at the Blenheim congregation. During the years his place was seldom vacant in the service and he sought to support the church to the best of his ability. Funeral services were held at his late home and at the Blenheim Church on Dec. 9 with Moses Bowman and Curtis C. Cressman in charge Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Shimp. John E., son of the late Samuel and Harriet (Hayes) Shimp, was born Nov. 15, 1873, in Lancaster Co., Pa., departed from this life Oct. 7, 1949, at the home of his daughter (Myrtle), Mountville, Pa.; aged 75 y. 10 m. 22 d. Death followed a few hours after a heart attack, preceding which he had been in good health. On Sept. 30, 1896, he was united in marriage to Frances L. Krantz, who passed away Dec. 30, 1942. Shortly after their marriage they united with the Providence Mennonite Church to which faith they remained steadfast until death. Surviving are one son and 2 daughters (Clair K. Shimp, Strasburg, Pa.; Myrtle H.-Mrs. Chester H. Denlinger, Mountville, Pa.; and Mabel K.-Mrs. J. Lloyd Kreider, Strasburg, Pa.), 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Willow Street Mennonite Church Oct. 11 in charge of Jacob T. Harnish and John A. Breneman. Text: Ps. 23. Interment was made in the New Providence Mennonite Cemetery.
Strickler. --- Jennie E., widow of Edwin E. Strickler, passed away Dec. 5, 1949; aged 77 y. 1 m. 10 d. Death followed an illness of seven weeks, during which she suffered patiently. She was a Christian for many years and untied with the Churchtown Mennonite Church near Allen, Pa.; over fifty years ago. Surviving are 2 daughters (Mrs. Nevin Wilson, Carlisle, Pa.; and Mrs. Paul T. Huddle, Gettysburg, Pa.), one stepdaughter (Mrs. Ruth Niesley, Martinsburg, Pa.), 3 sisters, and 4 grandchildren. A son (Jacob) preceded her in death. Funeral services were held by William Strong on Dec. 7. Text: Isa. 35: 10. Interment was made in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Swarr.---Minnie S., daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Cassel, was born May 1, 1868; died at her home in East Petersburg, Lancaster Co., Pa., after a three-day illness, Dec. 4, 1949; aged 81 y. 7 m. 3 d. In 1890 she was united in marriage to Milton L. Swarr, who preceded her in death four years ago. One daughter (Elsie) died in 1896. Surviving are one son (Harry C.), 2 grandsons, and 2 great-grandchildren. Early in her married life she united with the East Petersburg Mennonite Church, of which she was a faithful, active, and interested member until death. She was loving and kind as a mother, grandmother, and friend. Funeral services were held at the home, in charge of Frank N. Kreider and at the East Petersburg Church, in charge of James Siegrist and Irvin Kreider. Texts: Ps. 17: 15; I Thess. 4: 13. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
Wambold. --- Leslie Roy Wambold was born Aug. 19, 1899; departed from this life Dec. 6, 1949; aged 50 y. 3 m. 17 d. In 1912 he moved with his family from his boyhood home, Breslau, Ont., to Markham, Ont., where he spent the remainder of his life. At the age of fourteen he accepted Christ as his Saviour during a Bible conference at which A. B. Snider was an instructor. Later he united with the Mennonite Church. In 1935 he was married to Henrietta Lehman, who survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters (Catherine, Edith, and Isabel), one sister (Mrs. Sam Brownsberger), his aged father, and 2 nephews. As a young man he graduated from Toronto Bible College. He loved music, serving for many years as chorister in his home congregation, and holding frequent music instruction classes. He was also interested and active in Sunday-school work, having served for along time as a teacher of a men's Bible class. During the years he also served on numerous church-wide boards. Funeral services were held at the home by Emerson McDowell and at the Wideman Church by Aaron Grove and Floyd Schmucker.
Zimmerman. --- Joseph E., son of Christian and Rosa (Eicher) Zimmerman, was born near Chenoa, Ill., March 19, 1880; passed away Dec. 15, 1949; aged 69 y. 8 m. 26 d. When he was one year old his parents moved to Milford, Nebr., where he lived the remaining years of his life, except for fourteen years spent at Wood River, Nebr. At the age of seventeen he accepted Christ as Saviour and united with the East Fairview Mennonite Church. On Jan. 8, 1899, he was married to Mary Yordy, who passed away March 27, 1929. Having been left homeless quite young, he was especially sympathetic toward homeless children, and they opened their home to 3 children, whom they adopted. In 1906 they moved to Wood River, where he was ordained to the ministry Aug. 27, 1906; he was a charter member of the congregation there. Later the responsibilities of bishop were added, and he was ordained to that office Dec. 9, 1916. In 1920, he was called to serve the East Fairview Church at Milford. On April 15, 1930, he was married to Phoebe Yeackley. Their home was opened to 2 grandchildren. Surviving are his wife 3 children (Milo, Seward, Nebr.), Myrtle-Mrs. William Bender and Stella-Mrs. Herman Reil, Milford, Nebr.), 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother (Jake), 3 sisters (Mrs. Amos Jantzi, Mrs. Henry Stauffer, Mrs. L. O. Schlegel), 2 half sisters (Mrs. Lee Schweitzer and Mrs. Emery Schweitzer), and 4 stepbrothers (Menno, John, and William, all of Milford; and Perry, Aurora, Ohio). He was instrumental in ordaining 3 bishops, 12 ministers, and 12 deacons, all but three of these in Nebraska. He loved singing and frequently requested special hymns for the church service. It was characteristic of him to read verses of hymns as an introduction to his sermons. He was concerned about others, materially and spiritually, not thinking of self. He weighed making decisions. For forty-three years he served willingly and sacrificially in the ministry. Funeral services were conducted by Maurice Yoder and Perry Blosser, assisted by P. R. Kennel, W. A. Eicher, Joe Hershberger, Alvin Gascho, Edd Hershberger, Edward Diener, Edward Yoder, Lee Schlegel, Ezra Roth, George Miller, Sam Oswald, A. M. Miller, and Merle Bender. About one thousand people attended the service.
