Janzen, Eileen Doris Epp
Eileen Doris Epp Janzen, 91, of North Newton, Kan., died July 10, 2014, at Kidron Bethel Village. She was born Nov. 4, 1922, to Dietrich G. and Marie Dueck Epp on a farm near Lushton, Neb.
Her family moved to Colorado when she was 9 and returned to Nebraska in 1935. She graduated from high school in Henderson in 1940 and then attended Henderson Bible School, where she accepted Jesus as her Savior. She was baptized and joined Bethesda Mennonite Church in 1941. She attended the Bible Institute of Los Angeles from 1942 until her marriage to Lester Janzen on March 4, 1944. While he was in the Army in Europe, she worked as a dental assistant in Henderson. After the war they returned to Los Angeles until he graduated in June 1949. In 1950 they moved to Goshen, Ind., where he graduated from Goshen College. He was pastor of Bethel Mennonite Church in Perkasie, Pa., from 1951 to 1956 and then moved to Ritzville, Wash., to serve Menno Mennonite Church.
In 1963 they moved to Newton, where he served as stewardship secretary for the General Conference Mennonite Church. She volunteered with Released Time Bible School, taught Sunday school and Bible school and was a member of the Mission Circle and the quilting group at Faith Mennonite Church, where they were members. She worked as a press operator for Faith and Life Press for 25 years.
Survivors include four children, Cheri Jantzen and her husband, David, of Houston, Judi Janzen of Salem, Ore.; Joel Janzen and his wife, Natalie, of Denver, and Scott Janzen and his wife, Karen, of Evergreen, Colo.; three siblings, Dennis D. Epp and Geraldine Friesen, both of Henderson, Neb., and Jane Hershberger of Newton; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, on Oct. 8, 2002; a daughter, Faith, on Jan. 1, 2003; and a brother, Sylvester D. (Bob) Epp.
A memorial service is being held Aug. 2 at Faith Mennonite Church in Newton.
Regier, Sarah Gladys Boehr
Sarah Gladys (Boehr) Regier, 91, of North Newton, Kan., died July 22, 2014, in Wichita. She was born July 8, 1923, to Sarah (Mierau) and Bernhard Boehr in Henderson, Neb.
She worked as a registered nurse for 25 years as well as being a farm wife. She enjoyed music, traveling, scrapbooking and especially her family. She volunteered for Mennonite Disaster Service and Mennonite Central Committee and was active in her local church. On April 10, 1950, she married Herman L. Regier in Henderson, Neb.
Survivors include five children, Leon Regier and his wife, Marilyn, Marilyn King and her husband, Craig, Dale Regier and his wife, Teresa, Larry Regier and his wife, Kristi, and Karen Deaver and her husband, Terry; a sister, Rachel Hiebner; four sisters-in-law, Kay Boehr, Rachel Regier, Marian Brundage and Ruth Preheim; a brother-in-law, Ivan Regier; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, on July 30, 2006; and by four brothers, Elmer Boehr, Donald Boehr, Melvin Boehr and Ben Boehr.
Funeral services were held at Koerner Heights Church, Newton, and at New Life Fellowship in Grant, Neb. Burial was in Madrid (Neb.) Cemetery.
