HERALD OF TRUTH - Volume IV, Number 11 - November 1867, Page 175

CORRECTION:--- In the death notice of Emeline Shaum given in the Sept. No. of the HERALD, it was stated that she had selected Jer. 22:10 as a text from which she desired her funeral sermon to be preached. This was incorrect. She had not selected any portion of Scripture for this purpose. Otherwise the notice was correctly given.

On the 17th of October in Doylestown, Bucks County, Pa., LIZZIE, daughter of Ephraim and Kate KRAUSE, aged 1 month and 26 days. She was buried on the 19th. A funeral sermon was delivered by Jacob Rheinhard in English and by Jacob Kulp in German from Mark 10:14. It was an only child and very dear to its parents, but they need not mourn as those having no hope, for they can feel assured that it is well with the child.
How soon the lovely child was gone
To its eternal happy home!
To such as Lizzie rest is given,
And she is now with Christ in Heaven.

There she forever will remain,
Nor e're return to you again;
But if your hearts to God are given,
At death you'll meet your child in Heaven

Therefore, dear parents, weep no more,
Although it is a trial sore,
To part with those the Lord has given,
For your dear child is now in Heaven.

Death of Daniel Hertzler, of Springfield, Ohio

The door was broken open during the night of October by running a piece of timber against it, and the assassins entered the house. Hertzler's wife heard the noise, and rose to see after the child which had been sick and slept in the room where they entered, and said, "What is the matter, Daniel?" when one of the men caught her by the neck, and said, "Never mind Daniel." By this time Daniel was up, trying to light a candle; but his wife cannot tell whether he got it lighted or not, but she heard a disturbance in the other room and the report of a gun, upon which the man who held her, let her go and ran into the other room, and she went up stairs, and awoke the hired man, came back to the room, and taking the sick child, fled to a neighbor's house. This was on the morning of the 10th of October, between two and three o'clock. Hertzler lay there until six o'clock, when they found him dead. He had been shot twice; once in the thigh, which was the cause of his death, and once in the side which was only a flesh wound. He was buried on Sunday, the 13th. This was the largest funeral that I ever was present at. 434 carriages are said to have been in attendance, and a large concourse of people.
