Herald of Truth Obituaries - November, 1876

Herald of Truth - Volume XIII, Number 11 - November, 1876 - page 191, 192.

Sep. 16th, in Wakarusa, Elkhart Co., Ind., of brain dropsy, MICHAEL L., son of Franklin and Matilda WITMER, aged 7 months.

Sep. 25th, in Lawrence Co., Pa., Elder SHEM KING, aged nearly 57 years. Bro. King was a man of rare worth, and the church in which he lived will miss him sadly. He was a man of real humility, as was evinced* by the modest estimate he had of himself and abilities. It was not in him to aspire to any prominence in the affairs of the denomination of which he was a member. He was also just and charitable in his bearing toward others; not disposed to distrust, ridicule or harshly judge others. To his family he was one of the most devoted of husbands and fathers. He no doubt had faults, for who has not, but the virtues and graces of a good and sincere man were so combined in him that, while we drop the tear of friendship, we are not as those who "mourn without hope." He has gone home, to rest and to receive the crown.
