Hershberger. --- Gwendolyn June, daughter of Howard and Martha (Buckwalter) Hershberger was born June 3, 1949; passed away Dec. 16, 1949; aged 6 m. 13 d. Her illness, caused by intestinal flu, was of very short duration. Having unexpectedly taken a turn for the worse, she slipped away less than an hour after being rushed to the hospital. She had a pleasing disposition, having endeared herself by her alertness and responsive smile. Surviving are her parents, 4 grandparents (Owen O. and Clara Hershberger and Earl and Rose Buckwalter), a great-grandmother (Mrs. Barbara Brenneman), and a number of uncles, aunts, and cousins. Funeral services Dec. 18 were conducted at the home by the grandfathers and at the Pennsylvania Church by John P. Duerksen and Fred S. Brenneman. Text: Isa. 11: 6b.

Kaufman. --- Eli Kaufman was born near Walnut Creek, Holmes Co., Ohio, Jan.10, 1855; passed away at Bethel Deaconess Hospital , Newton, Kans., Dec. 23, 1949; aged 94 y. 11 m. 13 d. He was a faithful member of the Hesston, Kans. Mennonite Church and attended services regularly as long as he was able to do so. On Dec. 22, 1889, he was united in marriage to Magdalena Steckly, who passed away Nov. 21, 1938. Surviving are 4 children (Harry E., Lula-Mrs. C. D. Kauffman, both of Hesston; Goldie-Mrs. E. S. Gingerich, Wichita, Kans.; and Jason G., Tulsa, Okla.), 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 brothers (Menno A., Fresno, Ohio; and Absalom A., Portland, Oreg.). One infant daughter, 9 brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Hesston College Chapel, in charge of Milo Kauffman and Jess Kauffman. Burial was made in the Pennsylvania Cemetery near Zimmerdale, Kans.

Landis. ---Henry F., son of Henry S. and Frances (Stauffer) Landis, was born near Sterling, Ill., March 6, 1857; passed away Dec. 9, 1949; aged 92 y. 9 m. 3 d. On Dec. 22, 1881, he was united in marriage to Magdalene Ebersole, who preceded him in death May 19, 1921. Surviving are 7 children (Mrs. C. M. Hess, Mrs. C. N. Long, Mrs. Ward Shank, Mrs. Menno Long, William, Harry, and Raymond), 29 grandchildren, and 52 great-grandchildren. Two daughters (Olive in infancy and Mrs. A. C. Good in 1943) preceded him in death. He was a member of the Science Ridge Mennonite Church for many years. Funeral services were held Dec. 12, in charge of A. E. Kreider.

Miller.--- Leon Russell, son of Noah and Sylvania Miller, was born near Hartville, Ohio, Nov. 1, 1949; died Dec. 22, 1949, of strangulation; aged 1 m. 21 d. Surviving are his parents, one brother, 4 grandparents, 7 aunts, 4 uncles, and many other relatives. Funeral services were held at the Hartville Mennonite Church Dec. 26, with Lester Wyse, H. N. Troyer, and O. N. Johns in charge.

Miller. --- Lydia E., daughter of Benedict and Mattie (Bender) Miller, was born in Johnson Co., Iowa, April 2, 1885; passed away at the Elkhart General Hospital, Dec. 23, 1949; aged 64 y. 8 m. 21 d. Death followed a heart attack which she suffered early in the morning at her home near Millersburg, Ind. In 1905 she was united in marriage to Levi Miller, who survives. Also surviving are 4 children (Irma, Arie, and Esther, all of Goshen, Ind.; Gideon, Beemer, Nebr.), 5 grandchildren, one brother (Cephas, Iowa City, Iowa), and one sister (Mrs. David S. Miller, Goshen, Ind.). In 1919 she became a member of the Clinton Frame Mennonite Church, and held to this faith until death, being faithful in church attendance when health permitted. Funeral services were held at the home and at the Clinton Frame Church Dec. 26, in charge of Ira S. Johns, assisted by Verle Hoffman. Interment was mad in the Miller Cemetery.

Neff. --- Henry, son of Cornelius and Catherine (Hochstettler) Neff, was born near Sugarcreek, Ohio, Dec. 30, 1877; passed away in the Alpena, Mich., General Hospital, Dec. 12, 1949; aged 71 y. 11 m. 12 d. In his youth he joined the Mennonite Church. In 1904 he was united in marriage to Rosa Zook, of Fairview, Mich., who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters (Clara-Mrs. Dan Martin, Fairview, Mich.; and Mae Marie-Mrs. George Belinsky, Clio, Mich.), 5 sons (Carl, Elmer, and Curtis Comins, Mich.; Rolla, Oklahoma City, Okla.; John in the army), 2 brothers (Edwin, Comins, Mich.; and John, Sugarcreek, Ohio), 3 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. One son (Robert) and a sister preceded him in death. Funeral services were in charge of Harvey Handrich and M. S. Steiner. Burial was made in the Fairview Cemetery.

Oswald. --- Herbert E., son of Emanuel and Lydia (Helmuth) Oswald, was born near Winesburg, Ohio, June 25, 1892; passed away at the home in Streetsboro, Ohio, Dec. 21, 1949; aged 57 y. 5 m. 27 d. Death resulted from heart failure. On March 25, 1922, he was united in marriage to Cora Hostetler, who survives. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, 7 brothers (Martin, Millersburg, Ohio; Harvey, Hartville, Ohio; Benjamin, Goshen, Ind.; Walter, Hesston, Kans.; Sanford, Baltic, Ohio; Oren, Burbank, Calif.; and Levi, Orrville, Ohio) 2 sisters (Priscilla-Mrs. Lee Miller, Charm, Ohio; Lydia-Mrs. Perry Hochstetler, Millersburg, Ohio), his step mother (Mrs. Sarah Oswald, Orrville, Ohio), and 4 sons (Noble, Aurora, Ohio; Edward, James, and Mervin, at home). His parents, 4 brothers (Albert, Sylvia, and 2 infants) and one infant son (Edwin) predeceased him. The first three years of his married life he lived in Holmes Co., Ohio; in 1925 he moved to Portage Co. In his youth he united with the Mennonite Church and was faithful to the church throughout his life. He was a trustee and church treasurer for many years, and his services were always available in any other capacity for which he was fitted. He was a man of humility and of few words, deeply respected and honored by those who knew him best. His concern was not only for the perishable and material things of this world, but for the eternal and spiritual welfare of his family. Funeral services were held at the Plain View Mennonite Church, Aurora, Dec. 24, in charge of the local ministers. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Troyer. ­ ArDonna Rae, stillborn daughter of Wilbur and Eunice (Eck) Troyer, was born Dec. 5, 1949, at the Galloway Hospital, Anthony, Kans. Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery on Dec. 7 by Gideon Yoder.

Stutzman. --- Marybelle, daughter of Ezra and Emma Neff, was born at Auburn, Ohio, April 12, 1895; died at her home in Aurora, Ohio, Dec. 18, 1949; aged 54 y. 8 m. 6 d. On Feb. 19, 1913, she was united in marriage to Elmer E. Stutzman, of Aurora, Ohio. Surviving are 6 sons and 3 daughters (Lucille Gartner, Lakewood, Ohio; Kenneth, Oakland, Calif.; Ray Allen, Aurora, Ohio; Aleda Chapman, Kent, Ohio; Mahlon Ezra, Akron, Ohio; Grace Hopkins, Mantua, Ohio; Robert, Ralph and Donald at home), 14 grandchildren, 2 sisters (Mrs. Minnie Walls, Kent, Ohio; Mrs. Clara Cohick, of Akron, Ohio), and one brother (Mahlon, Lagrange, Ind.). Her parents, 4 sisters, and one brother preceded her in death. All but the first year of her married life were spent at her late home, where she died. Five days before death she suffered a stroke, never regaining consciousness. All the children were at her bedside when she died. As a young girl she accepted Christ and united with the Plain View Mennonite Church, Aurora, remaining faithful until death. Funeral services were held at the Plain View Church Dec. 21, in charge of the local ministers. Burial was made in the nearby cemetery.

Zapata. --- Santiago V., son of Jesus and Isabelle (Basquez) Zapata, was born May 1, 1878, at Castroville, Texas; passed away at the home of his daughter in Freeport, Ill., Dec. 16, 1949, after an extended illness; aged 71 y. 7 m. 15 d. He lived most of his life in Del Rio, Texas, having moved to Chicago, in 1940 and to Freeport in 1942. July 15, 1901, he was married to Elena Valdez. Surviving are his daughter (Mrs. Isabelle Vallarta, Freeport), 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, 2 brothers (Sylvester, Chicago, Ill.; and Adolfo, San Antonio, Texas). His parents, his wife, 3 brothers, and one sister preceded him in death. About two years ago he united with the Freeport, Ill., Mennonite Church, of which he was a member until death. Funeral services were held at the Myers Funeral Home in Dakota and at the Mennonite Church, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Howard Zehr was in charge of the funeral service, with Frank Ventura leading the closing prayer at the cemetery in the Spanish language, the mother tongue of the deceased.

Wittrig. --- Josephine, daughter of August and Barbara (King) Lund, was born near Hopedale, Ill., May 29, 1859; passed away at her home in Beemer, Nebr., Dec. 24, 1949; aged 90 y. 6 m. 25 d. In her girlhood she moved with her family to Decatur Co., Kansas. On April 13, 1889, she was united in marriage to Jacob Wittrig, and in 1901 they moved to Cuming Co., Nebr., by covered wagon. They lived on a farm near Beemer until 1919, when they retired and moved to town. Her husband passed away April 4, 1931. Her parents, one sister, and one brother also preceded her in death. Surviving are 4 children (David and Edward, of Beemer; Anna, at home; Lydia-Mrs. Ed Stutzman, Broken Arrow, Nebr.), 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one sister (Mrs. Caroline Birky, Tangent, Oreg.), one sister-in-law, and a large number of other relatives and friends. In her youth she united with the Mennonite Church, in which faith she died. She was a woman of great faith in God and a friend to all. Friends and neighbors of all denominations enjoyed visiting in her home and were always welcome. Her earthly life was one of suffering and pain, but one of blessing, joy, and happiness. Funeral services were conducted at the home by P. O. Oswald and at the Mennonite Church by Sam Oswald and William Eicher. Interment was made in the Beemer Cemetery.

Blough. --- David S., son of Samuel and Mary (Walters) Blough, was born in Lagrange Co., Ind., Oct. 10, 1863; departed from this life Dec. 18, 1949; aged 86 y. 2 m. 8 d. In 1884 he was united in marriage to Kathrine Zook, who died in 1936. To this union were born 7 children (Clarence D., who died in 1942; Henry W., San Ysidro, Calif.; a son, who died in infancy; Elsie-Mrs. M. E. Plank, Middlebury, Ind.; Samuel J., Middlebury, Ind.; John Elwyn, Topeka, Ind.; and Paul, Bristol, Ind.). Surviving besides these 5 children are a step-daughter (Mrs. John B. Kaufman), a stepson (Willis Mast, of Michigan), 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. In 1937 he was united in marriage to Lydia Mast, who preceded him in death three weeks ago. He died at the home of his daughter (Mrs. Plank), where he had resided for only two weeks. In his youth he united with the Mennonite Church and actively engaged in church work as long as he was able. He was a charter member of the Lawrence Street Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at the Middlebury Church, in charge of the local ministers. Burial was made in the Forest Grove Cemetery. Text: II Tim. 4: 6-8.

Buchwalter. --- Ira J., second son of Daniel and Sarah (Brenneman) Buckwalter, was born in Baughman Twp., near Dalton, Ohio, May 6, 1870; died Jan. 3, 1950; aged 79 y. 7 m. 27 d. Death followed a week's illness and an operation, after a few years of failing health. At the age of seventeen he began teaching school. After eight years he entered the farming occupation. On Nov. 26, 1891, he was united in marriage to Emma Horst, youngest daughter of Bishop Michael Horst, by Adam Kornhaus. One daughter (Ruth) died in early childhood. Surviving are his invalid wife, one son (Harry), 5 grandchildren, one sister (Mrs. Effie Eschliman, Youngstown, Ohio), 2 brothers (Daniel and Charles, both of Dalton, Ohio), and many other relatives and friends. In young manhood he confessed Christ as his Saviour and was received into the fellowship of the Mennonite Church on May 4, 1889, continuing faithful until death. On Sept. 16, 1893, he was ordained to the ministry by John Burkholder and on Aug. 17, 1895, he was ordained bishop by Joseph Bixler. At his death he was the oldest bishop in the Mennonite Church in point of time of service, having been in charge of a number of congregations in Mahoning, Columbiana, Stark, Tuscarawas, Holmes, Wayne and Medina counties. He was active in various phases of church work. He conducted Bible conferences, held evangelistic meetings, served frequently as moderator of church and Sunday-school conferences, served as assistant moderator of the General Conference. By the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination he had preached 2, 789 sermons, 299 funeral sermons, and performed 84 marriage ceremonies. He ordained 9 brethren and assisted in the ordination of 4 others. During the last years of his life his own and his wife's failing health required his constant presence in the home. He was sociable and hospitable, punctual, courteous, charitable, a lover of children and of nature and an able minister. A short service at his invalid wife's bedside was conducted by William G. Detweiler. Funeral services at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church were held Jan. 6, in charge of James Steiner, with D. D. Miller, W. J. Myers, I. W. Royer, A. J. Steiner, E. F. Hartzler, and P. R. Lantz participating. Six of the forty ordained men present served as pallbearers. Burial was made in the near-by cemetery.

Coblentz.--- Edna Mae, daughter of D. J. and Lydia (Schrock) Thomas, was born at Pueblo, Colo., Oct. 1, 1911; died suddenly on the street in Iowa City, Iowa, Jan. 14, 1950; aged 38 y. 3m .13 d. Death was caused by pulmonary embolism. On Jan.14, 1932, she was married to Chris Coblentz, who survives. Also surviving are 5 sons (Amos, Lloyd, Danny, Ralph, and Everet), 4 daughters (Dorothy Mae, Katie, Esther, and Shirley), 3 brothers, one sister, and a large number of other relatives and friends. Her parents, and one infant daughter preceded her in death. In her youth she accepted Christ as her Saviour. At that time she lived in Kansas; in 1938 the family moved in Iowa, locating in the Iowa City vicinity. She united with the East Union Mennonite Church, Kalona, later transferring her membership to the Iowa City Mission, where she was a member at the time of her death. Funeral services were held at the East Union Church Jan. 17, conducted by D. J. Fisher and Norman Hobbs. Burial was made in the East Union Cemetery.

Eimen. --- Peter, son of Daniel and Barbara (Zehr) Eimen, was born in Tazewell Co., Ill., June 11, 1871; died at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, Jan.3, 1950; aged 78 y. 6 m. 22 d. Death was caused by a heart attack. On Sept. 1, 1895, he was united in marriage to Anna Miller, of Goshen, Ind., who survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters (Mrs. A. Lloyd Swartzendruber, Kalona, Iowa; Mrs. John William Boyer, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Mrs. Harold Litwiller, Versailles, Mo.), 3 sons (Rufus, Swisher, Iowa; Seth, Oxford, Iowa; and Omar, Iowa City, Iowa), 11 grandchildren, 3 sisters (Mrs. Mose Ropp, Kalona, Iowa; Mrs. S. S. Troyer, of Ohio; and Fannie, Wayland, Iowa), one brother (Dave, Iowa City, Iowa), and a large number of other relatives and friends. Three sons (Edwin, Ammon, and Charles) and one daughter (Sarah) preceded him in death. He moved with his family to Henry Co., Iowa in 1877, locating near Wayland. As a young man he went to Johnson Co., where he worked as a farm hand until he was married. After his marriage he lived and farmed in the Kalona community. He was a kind husband and father, a good neighbor, generous, always ready to help in every way possible. As a young man he accepted Christ as his Saviour; he was a faithful member of the East Union Mennonite Church at the time of his death. Funeral services were held at the East Union Church Jan. 6, conducted by D. J. Fisher and J. Y. Swartzendruber. Burial was made in the East Union Cemetery.

Hartzler. --- Martha, daughter of Abraham and Susan (Yoder) Jones, was born in Lagrange Co., Ind., near the Forks community, Jan. 31, 1880; died Jan. 5, 1950, at her home in Goshen, Ind., after a short illness; aged 69 y. 11 m. 5 d. Death was causes by a heart ailment. In 1899 she graduated from the Topeka High School, one of a class of three graduates. After attending the normal school at Angola, Ind., she taught three years in the grade schools near her home. On June 30, 1803, she was married to Harry Hartzler, who survives. Also surviving are 3 children (Malcolm, Goshen, Ind.; Merle, Franklin, Ohio; and Margaret, of Goshen), 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters (Mrs. Jesse Mast, Elkhart, Ind.; and Bernice, Denver, Colo.), and one brother (Clarence, Goshen). They lived in Topeka ten years, Nappanee two years, and Goshen the remaining years. As a young woman she joined the old Maple Grove Mennonite Church, Topeka, Ind. At the time of her death she had been a member of the Eighth Street Mennonite Church, Goshen, for twenty-seven years. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 8 at the Eighth Street Church. Interment was made in the Maple Grove Cemetery, near Topeka.

Hochstetler. --- Mattie, daughter of Moses A. and Sophia (Stutzman) Mast, was born Feb. 12, 1882; passed away Jan. 8, 1950; aged 67 y. 10 m. 26 d. She lived in the Walnut Creek, Ohio, locality her entire life. In January, 1905, she was united in marriage to John Hochstetler, who passed away Jan. 29, 1937. Her parents, 5 sisters, and a brother also predeceased her. Surviving are 2 sons (Wayne J. and Moses J., both of Walnut Creek, Ohio), 2 daughters (Sarah-Mrs. Paul Gerber, and Erdine-Mrs. Roger Horrsiberger, also of Walnut Creek), a foster daughter (Lizzie Hawk, Louisville, Ohio), 3 brothers (Albert, Holmesville, Ohio; Corsan, Barrs Mills, Ohio; and Gillespie, Walnut Creek), an adopted sister (Mrs. Leander Wilhelm, Walnut Creek), and 13 grandchildren. Throughout a year's illness preceding her death, she was confined to bed most of the time at the home of her daughter (Erdine). She bore her suffering bravely and was unusually gracious to all who visited her; her warm friendship will be a lasting influence on many. Funeral services were held at the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church Jan. 11, with Paul R. Miller and Alvin W. Miller in charge. Interment was made in the church cemetery.

Kinsey.---Leon Samuel, stillborn son of Walter S. and Alma (Hauck) Kinsey, Quarryville, Pa., was born Jan. 20, 1950. Surviving are his parents, 5 sisters an 2 brothers (Beulah, Mabel, Marian, Linda, Martha, Ray, and his twin, Lee Sylvester), and his maternal grandmother (Mrs. Henry Hollinger, Lititz, Pa.). Graveside services, in charge of Clair Eby, were conducted in the Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Cemetery, where burial was made.

Miller. --- Katherine Ann, daughter of John and Fannie (Troyer) Stutesman, was born near Sugarcreek, Ohio, July 21, 1867; died at Fairview, Mich., Dec. 31, 1949; aged 82 y. 5 m. 10 d. On Sept. 17, 1885, she was united in marriage to Jeff Miller. Surviving are 8 children (Oliver, Chauncy, Roy, Fannie, and Nettie Detweiler, Fairview, Mich.; William, Plevny, Ind.; Willis and Della Lantz, Harrisonburg, Va.), 43 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters (Mary Miller, Fairview, Mich.; and Sarah Milford, Del.), one brother (Dave, Kokomo, Ind.), and a large number of nieces and nephews and friends. Her husband and 2 sons (John and Harry ) preceded her in death. At the age of seven she moved with her parents, in a covered wagon, to Indiana. In the spring of 1903 she and her family moved to a farm near Fairview, Mich. During the summer and fall their home was a haven for other pioneers coming to look for land, or for families waiting for their houses to be built. She was one of four remaining charter members of the Mennonite Church there. She attended services whenever possible, and in the last years enjoyed listening over a loud speaker in her home. Her life was an inspiration to her children, and grandchildren; she was patient and cheerful in spite of physical weakness. A wide circle of relatives and friends enjoyed dropping in for a little talk with "Grandma Miller." Funeral services were held at the Fairview Mennonite Church by M. S. Steiner and Harvey Handrich. Burial was made in the Fairview Cemetery.

Mishler.--- Barbara Anna, daughter of Dorsa and Mary (Diller) Mishler, was born Jan. 14, 1950, at the Ephrata, Pa., Community Hospital; passed away Jan. 16, 1950; aged 2 d. Surviving are her parents, one brother (John, at home), her maternal grandmother (Mrs. Barbara Diller, Elida, Ohio), her paternal grandparents (Mr. and Mrs. Homer J. Mishler, Shipshewana, Ind.), one great-grandmother (Mrs. S. S. Diller, Elida, Ohio) , and a number of uncles and aunts. Services were conducted at the home, in charge of Glenn Esh. Interment was made in the Eby Cemetery, near Monterey, Pa.

Brubaker. --- Catherine, daughter of Anna and David Lehman, was born in Illinois Nov. 22, 1868; died at the home of her daughter (Mrs. Amos Gregory), Brutus, Mich., Nov. 18, 1949; aged 80 y. 11 m. 26 d. As a little girl she moved with her parents to Goshen, Ind., by covered wagon, over rough, unimproved roads. As the age of twelve she was left without a mother. In 1891 she was married to John Brubaker, at Floradale, Ont. Her husband, one infant son, and one daughter (Lucinda-Mrs. Joseph Reil) preceded her in death. Surviving are 2 sons and 4 daughters (Lizzie-Mrs. David Snider; Alanson, Mich.; Ivan, Harbor Springs, Mich.; Elsie-Mrs. Amos Gregory, Brutus, Mich.; Mrs. Martha Burkey, Petoskey, Mich.; Mattie-Mrs. Charles Babcock, Conway, Mich.; and David, Midland Mich.), 33 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Maple River congregation near Brutus, Mich. Clyde Kauffman and Richard Halter were in charge of services at the Stone Funeral Home, in Petoskey, and Clarence Yoder at the Wilson Funeral Home in Midland, Mich. Burial was made in the Homer Cemetery.

Heatwole. ­ Lydia E., daughter of P. S. and Nancy (Reiff) Heatwole, was born at Dale Enterprise, Va., July 5, 1875; died at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va., Oct. 24, 1949; aged 74 y. 3 m. 19 d. She was united in marriage to Abram Heatwole, who preceded her in death. Surviving are 7 children ( Owen, Earl, and Roy, Harrisonburg, Va.; Mrs. Frank Swope, Dayton, Va.; Mrs. Marion Suter, Edom, Va.; Mrs. John Patterson, Bridgewater, Va.; and George at home), one sister (Mrs. E. W. Burkholder, Dale Enterprise), one brother (Amos, also of Dale Enterprise), 24 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Three daughters preceded her in death. She was a member of the Weaver Mennonite Church from the time of her childhood. Funeral services were held at the Weaver Church, conducted by Harold Eshleman, A.R. Showalter, and S. H. Rhodes. Interment was made in the nearby cemetery.

Herr. --- John R., son of the late Henry and Magdalena (Buckwalter) Herr, was born in Lancaster Co., Pa., Sept. 21, 1868; departed from this life Nov. 4, 1949; aged 81 y. 1 m. 13 d. His heath had been failing the last year; the last four months he spent in the Lancaster General Hospital. On Oct. 29, 1891, he was married to Mary Emma Huber, who preceded him in death June 1, 1939. One son and one daughter also predeceased him. Surviving are 6 sons and one daughter (Elmer H., John H., Ira E., Frank H., Aaron H., Emma-Mrs. Norman Miller, and Enos H.), 30 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. He was a faithful member of the New Providence Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held at the home of his son (John), in charge of Clayton Keener, and at the New Providence Church, in charge of Jacob Harnish and Paul Myer. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Moyer. ­ Lizzie B. Harley was born Dec. 19, 1870; died at her home in Vernfield, Pa., Dec. 3, 1949; aged 78 y. 11 m. 14 d. In January, 1888 she was united in marriage to Morris C. Moyer, who preceded her in death in February, 1937. One son (Marvin H.) also preceded her in death three years ago. Surviving are 2 sons and a daughter (J. Laaban, Telford, Pa.; Abraham H., Bergey, Pa.; and Mrs. Alma Groff, Vernfield, Pa.), 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Four brothers predeceased her. She and her husband united with the Franconia Mennonite Church many years ago, remaining faithful until death. Funeral services were held Dec. 8 at the Franconia Church by Menno Souder and Elwood Derstine.

Oesch.--- Magdalena, daughter of Jacob and Katherine Oesch, was born near Zurich, Ont., June 7, 1872; passed away Jan. 5, 1950, at the home of her daughter (Mrs. Harvey Eichler); aged 77 y. 6 m. 29 d. In October 1903, she was united in marriage to Joseph W. Roth, who preceded her in death Oct. 5, 1941. One son (William) predeceased her in 1934. Surviving are one son (Norman, Bay Port, Mich.), 2 daughters (Lucinda-Mrs. Harvey Eichler, Elkton, Mich.; Kathryn-Mrs. Raymon Springer, Minier, Ill.), 3 stepchildren (Ada-Mrs. Edward Bechler, Pigeon, Mich.; Amy-Mrs. Milo Yoder, Garden City, Mo.; and Harry, of California), 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and one brother (Jacob, Pontiac, Mich.). In early youth she united with the Mennonite Church, remaining a faithful member until death. She attended church services when health permitted and was a kind and loving mother. Funeral services were in charge of Donald King, assisted by Paul Wittrig. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Text, Ps. 139: 18.

Whetzel. --- Michael Henry, son of the late Jesse and Susan (Bowman) Whetzel, was born Aug. 23, 1877; died Jan. 6, 1950; aged 72 y. 4 m. 13 d. At the age of twenty-five he became a member of the Mennonite Church and remained faithful until death. For a number of years he was a superintendent of the Sunday school at the Zion Church; he was willing to serve the Lord and the church in every way that he could. In 1902 he was married to Lizzie Taylor, who survives. Also surviving are 5 sons (Howard T., Broadway, Va.; Charles and Raymond, Linville, Va.; Perry, Mt. Crawford, Va.; and Ira, Washington, D. C.), 2 brothers (Fred, Broadway, Va.; and Wilmer, Charlottesville, Va.), one sister (Lennie Sutton, Marshall, Mo.), and 7 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Zion Mennonite Church, Broadway, Va., Jan. 9, by J. L . Stauffer and Timothy Showalter. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Becker.--- Jay Ronald, son of Clarence and Beatrice (Nolt) Becker, Manheim, Pa., was born Dec. 26, 1949; passed away Dec. 30, 1949; aged 4 d. Surviving are his parents, one brother (Clarence Eugene), and his grandparents (Mr. and Mrs. Reuben B. Nolt, Mt. Joy, Pa.; and Mr. and Mrs. Aaron K. Becker, Manheim, Pa.). Interment was made in the Kauffman Cemetery.

Danner.--- John Solomon Danner, was born June 18, 1876; died at the home of his son (Richard), Hanover, Pa., Dec. 30, 1949; aged 73 y. 6 m. 12 d. On Oct. 22, 1948, he was paralyzed. Although confined to his bed, he had proper use of his mental and speaking facilities until shortly before his passing. For a number of years he had served as superintendent of the Hanover Sunday School. He had also served as teacher of several different classes. Surviving are his wife (Ida B.), one son (Richard), and 4 grandchildren. Bidding his family farewell, he died in peace having given a bright testimony of assurance and hope. Funeral services were held Jan. 2 at the Blair Church near Hanover, with Harvey Grove, Elias Kulp, and Amos Shank officiating. Text: Luke 2: 29, 30.

Heatwole. --- Cora, daughter of John H. and Nettie (Shank) Grove, was born Sept. 1, 1882, at Greencastle, Pa.; died Nov. 4, 1949, at her home near the Weaver Church, Harrisonburg, Va.; aged 67 y. 2 m. 3 d. Death resulted from a stroke. She was a member of the Mennonite from the time of her youth and always took an active part in church work. In 1907 she was united in marriage to Adam Eshleman, who preceded her in death in 1915. In 1929 she moved to Harrisonburg with two of her children, and in 1941 was married to John E. Heatwole, who survives. Also surviving are 4 children (Mrs. Ira Hege, Hagerstown, Md.; Mrs. Clarence Horst, Mountain Home, Ark.; Irvin G. Eshleman, Greencastle, Pa.; and Harold G. Eshleman, Harrisonburg, Va.), 3 stepchildren (Mrs. Ethel Lahman and Roland Heatwole, Harrisonburg; and Mrs.Dan Blosser, Harman, W. Va.), 18 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 5 brothers and one sister (Mrs. Aaron Shank, Greencastle, Pa.; Jacob and Luther, Hagerstown, Md.; John, Greencastle, Pa.; Ross, Smithsburg, Md.; and Harvey, Hanover, Pa.). Funeral services were held at the Weaver Church, with D. W. Lehman and J. R. Mumaw in charge, and a t Hagerstown, Md., at the Paradise Church. Burial was made in the cemetery adjoining the Paradise Church.

Lutz. --- Susan E., daughter of Christian and Lizzie Nonnenmocher, was born Nov. 6, 1865; passed away at the home of her daughter (Edna), Rothsville, Pa., Nov. 30, 1949, aged 84 y. 24 d. She was united in marriage to Samuel W. Lutz, who died about a year ago. She was a member of the Mennonite Church at Landis Valley, Lancaster, Pa., for many years. The last of her immediate family, she is survived by 3 daughters (Mrs. Jennie Balmer, Edna-Mrs. Harry B. Graybill, both of Rothsville, Pa.; and Mrs. Helen Forrey, Lititz, Pa.), 7 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Spacht's Funeral Home and at the Landis Valley Church, in charge of Ira D. Landis and Levi M. Weaver. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Roth. --- Mary, daughter of Joseph and Mary Goldsmith, was born in Neuwieler, Switzerland, March 6, 1871; passed away at the home of her daughter (Mrs. Solomon Beck) Nov. 26, 1949; aged 78 y. 8 m. 20 d. At the age of twelve she came with her parents to the United States and located in the Archbold, Ohio, community, where she spent the remainder of her life. On Feb. 14, 1895, she was united in marriage to Joseph Roth, who passed away May 26, 1908. To this union were born one son (Aaron J., of Wauseon, Ohio), and 2 daughters (Amanda, who died in infancy and Clara-Mrs. Solomon Beck, Archbold). She had made her home with her daughter for twenty-two years. In early teen age she accepted Jesus as her personal Saviour and was accepted and received into the Central Amish Mennonite Church near Archbold, remaining faithful until death. Her faith in the Lord and her fellowship with Him sustained her through trials and disappointments. She was devote to God and His Word and to the church and often expressed her belief in the goodness of God. Four years ago her health began to fail and she was confined to her home. Her husband, one daughter, one grandchild, her parents, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers predeceased her. Surviving besides her 2 children are 7 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, 3 sisters (Barbara-Mrs. Serenus Ropp, Bloomington, Ill.; Anna-Mrs. Ephraim Rufenacht, Lydia-Mrs. Simon Rufenacht, both of Archbold, Ohio), 3 stepbrothers (Menno, John, and Reuben Burkholder), and a large number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at her home and at the Central Mennonite Church Nov. 30, with Simon Stuckey, E. B. Frey, Henry Wyse, and Roy Sauder officiating. Text: Ps. 16: 11. Interment was made in the Eckley Cemetery.

Swartzendruber. --- Melvin, son of John A. and Katie (Yoder) Swartzendruber, was born in Johnson Co., Iowa, Aug. 15, 1896; passed away at the hospital in Freeport, Ill., Dec. 25, 1949; aged 53 y. 4 m. 10 d. Death resulted from a ruptured appendix and peritonitis. In April, 1939, he moved with his family from Johnson Co., Iowa to Shannon, Ill. In his youth he was baptized and for a number of years was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. On Aug. 12, 1930, he was united in marriage to Mary Perrin, of Wellman, Iowa, who survives him. Also surviving are 2 daughters (Kathleen and Ilene, both at home), his father, 4 brothers (William, Davenport, Iowa; George, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; John and Henry, Iowa City, Iowa), 2 sisters (Ursula-Mrs. Annas Miller, Goshen, Ind.; and Mary Lois-Mrs. Clayton Widmer, Crawfordsville, Iowa), and many other relatives and friends. Two brothers preceded him in death in early childhood and his mother in April, 1947. Funeral services were held at the Lower Deer Creek Church Dec. 28, by George S. Miller and J. Y. Swartzendruber. Burial was made in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery.

Swope. ­ Peter A., son of the late John R. and Bettie (Shank) Swope, was born near Dale Enterprise, Rockingham Co., Va., July 2, 1874; departed from this life at his home Dec. 15, 1949; aged 75 y 5 m. 14 d. Death followed an illness of nine weeks. On Nov. 22, 1900, he was united in marriage to Katie Heatwole, who survives. Also surviving are a foster son (Frank R. Swope, Dayton, Va.), 4 brothers and one sister (R. Joe, Arlington, Va.; David H. and Mrs. Homer Coffman, Dayton, Va.; J. Perry, Mt. Clinton, Va.; Homer C., Bridgewater, Va.). One brother (Emanuel J., North Lima, Ohio) preceded him in death. In early manhood he accepted Christ and became a member of the Mennonite Church in the middle district of Virginia, where he continued to hold membership until death. He was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. Funeral services were conducted by Paul Good and S. H. Rhodes Dec. 17 at the Weaver Church. Text: John 14. Funeral services were held at the home by D. W. Lehman. Interment was made in the church cemetery.

Wideman. --- Ernest James, son of Oscar and Louise (Yoder) Wideman, was born Nov. 2, 1941, at Sheridan, Oreg.; died Oct. 22, 1949, at the home of his parents in McMinnville, Oreg.; aged 7 y. 11 m. 20 d. Surviving are his parents, 2 sisters and one brother (Grace Louise, Oscar Dale, Mary Frances), 4 grandparents, and a large number of other relatives and friends. Death resulted instantly when a tractor overturned on him. He was gentle and loving, and his simple, childlike faith was expressed with childlike frankness on a number of occasions in testimony to men of the world. He was keenly interested in heaven and spiritual things. Funeral services were held at the Sheridan Church, in charge of J. A. Wolfer and D. F. Shenk. Interment was made in the Mennonite Cemetery near Willamina, Oreg. Text. I Sam. 20: 3.
