Nisly, Fred;
Nisly, Fred,
died at his farm, home northeast of Kalona, Iowa, Thursday morning.
Oct. 1, 1970, at 2:30, following a lingering illness, at the age of 60
years, 7 months and 7 days.
A son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Mast) Nisly, Fred was born March 24,
1910, near Hutchinson, Kans. He came to Iowa in 1931 and was married to
Katie Miller, Nov. 19, 1933, near Kalona, and together they shared
life's joys and sorrows nearly 37 years.
He was baptized in his youth and became a member of the Amish church
and was ordained to the ministry in 1943.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his companion; five sons and four
daughters, Reuben Edward, Daniel Mark, Mary Elizabeth of Kalona; Jesse
Wayne of Forreston, Ill.; (Esther Rebecca) Mrs. Joe Borntrager of
Sarasota, Fla.; Orpha Mae of Harrison, Ark., Ruth Kay, David James and
Paul Frederick at home; 14 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Edward and Dan
Jr.; 2 sisters, (Lizzie) Mrs. Menno Yoder and (Edna) Mrs. Jacob N.
Yoder; one stepbrother, John Helmuth; one step-sister, (Barbara) Mrs.
Harry Yoder, all of Hutchinson, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by one son; one brother, Levi; 3 sisters; Mrs.
Wm. A. Miller, Mrs. Levi Miller and Mrs. Wm. Edw. Miller.
He underwent an operation in March and again in July but gradually
became weaker from the dreaded disease, cancer.
He served as Associate German Editor of the Herold for nearly 50 years.
He was a loving father and will be greatly missed in the home,
neighborhood, and church.
