Nafziger, Orval

Orval Nafziger, 88, Archbold, died Saturday afternoon, May 2, 1998 at the Fulton County health Center, Wauseon, where he was admitted Wednesday.

        Born Dec. 1, 1909, near Archbold, he was the son of Jacob and Amanda (Schmucker) Nafziger, and Married Ada Crossgrove on Feb. 6, 1934.  A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he was a retired farmer, and had worked at American Gage in Wauseon.  He was a charter member of Zion Mennonite Church.

        Survivors include his wife, Ada; three daughters, Mrs. Waldo (Barb) Aeschliman, Mrs. Merle (Charlene) Short, and Mrs. Richard (Sara) Nafziger, all of Archbold; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Velma Rufenacht, and Mary Short, both of Archbold.

        Memorial services were Tuesday, 4 p.m., at the Zion Mennonite Church with Ron Guengerich and Dee Swartz as the officiating pastors.  Burial preceded the service in the Pettisville Cemetery.

Nofziger, Bessie W. Frey

    Bessie W. (Frey) Nofziger, 95, Archbold, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, Archbold, where she had resided since Aug. 6, 1997.

        Born Dec. 8, 1902, at Archbold, she was a daughter of Nicholas J. and Mary (Rupp) Wyse, She married Edgar Frey on June 7, 1925, and he preceded her in death on June 19, 1939.  She then married Lester D. Nofziger on Sept. 11, 1971, and He preceded her in death on July 31, 1981.

        A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, she taught elementary school in the Archbold area for a total of 35 years, grade 1-8 in a one-room school and then second grade in the public school.  She was a charter member of the Zion Mennonite Church, Archbold, and a member of the Fulton County Teacher's Association.

        Surviving are one son, Robert (Sara) Frey, Elkhart, Ind.; one step-son, Fred (Hope) Nofziger, Swanton; four grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

        Memorial services are 11 a.m., Friday, at the Zion Mennonite Church with Ron Guengerich and Dee Swartz as the officiating pastors.  Burial will precede in the Pettisville Cemetery.  Calling hours are at Short Funeral Home from 2-9 Thursday.
