Son of: Late Abram L. and Alice Hersh Martin.

Survivors: Brother Paul (Pauline Smoker) Martin of Paradise, Pa.

Preceded in death: Brothers, S. Jay and A. Landis Martin; sisters Edna Martin Groff, Ruth Martin Hostetter, Mabel Martin Groff and Amy Martin Hess.

Charles was a farmer and also drove Amish Families.

He was a member of Paradise Mennonite Church.

Services: Oreville Chapel of the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, Pa. on Friday,June 6, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fred W. Martin officiating.  Interment in Paradise Mennonite Cemetery, Paradise, Pa.

Martin, Dale E.


GOSHEN -- Friends of Dale E. Martin may call from 2 to 4 and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour before the 10 a.m. service Friday at West Goshen Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Don Snell will officiate and burial will be at Yellow Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Martin, 83, of 1302 Greencroft Drive, died at 1:05 p.m. Monday (Aug. 11, 2003) at Goshen General Hospital.

He was born in Elkhart County on Aug. 23, 1919, to Albert and Mabel (Smith) Martin and married Sylvia Schrock in Dunlap on Aug. 21, 1949. His wife survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Dennis D. (Carol) and Gary E. (Patricia), both of Chicago, and Stanley W. (Julie) of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Sue Martin of New Paris; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Phyllis) Harter, Mrs. Paul (Marijane) Zipser, Mrs. Kenneth (Donna) Timpe and Mrs. Wayne (Joan) Gongwer, all of Dunlap; and two brothers, Wayne (Jean) of Vandalia and Doyle (Jeanine) of Dunlap.

Mr. Martin, a lifetime area resident, worked as a plumbing contractor from 1953 to 1967 and in construction and maintenance at Grace College in Winona Lake until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of West Goshen Church of the Brethren and a founding member of Concord Fire Department.

Miller, Verdella Grace Eicher
, 87 of Wayland, IA died February 23, 2003 at the Hearthstone Rehab Center in Sun City AZ. Verdella was born December 9, 1915 in Seward Co. Nebraska to William and Lydia (Steckly) Eicher. On October 4, 1936 she was united in marriage to Milton Miller at her parents home in Milford, Nebraska. Verdella was a faithful member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, where she was Church historian, taught Sunday school and bible school.

Survivors include three sons, Donald and wife Joan of Wayland, William Miller and wife Donna of Wayland and Ray Miller and wife Iris of Salida, Colorado; two brothers, Lloyd Eicher and wife Eldora of Littleton, Colorado and Floyd Eicher and wife Marie of Redlands, California; two sisters, Teresa Burkey and husband Perry of Hesston, Kansas and Violet Troyer of Harper, Kansas; one sister-in-law Christa Eicher of Chandler, Arizona; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Milton, July 19, 1998, two brothers, Elis Eicher and Dr. Walter Eicher, one sister Laverta Schwitzer, one grandson, Michael Lee and great-granddaughter Ashley Zieglowsky.

Funeral Service was February 28, 2003 at the Bethel Mennonite Church Wayland, Iowa with the Rev. Phil Slabaugh officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery.

Frances was a homemaker and also, with her husband, ran a stand at the Southern Market, Lancaster, for over 50 years. She was the oldest member of Byerland Mennonite Church.

Services: Byerland Mennonite Church, 931 Byeland Church Road, Willow Street, Pa. on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Joe C. Garber and Bishop Ernest M. Hess officiating. Intement in adjoining cemetery.

Preceded in death by a brother Titus Lehman.

Esther was a member of New Haven Mennonite Church, Lititz, Pa. where she was an avid Bible student.  She also cooked for the Church.

Services: Landis Homes Bethany Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Rd. Lititz, Pa. on Monday at 10:20 a.m. with LeRoy G. Martin, Glen Fox, Luke Martin, Rochard Boll officiating.  Intement in Stumptown Mennonite Cem., Bird-In-Hand, Pa.

Born: 12-1-1912, Gettysburg, Pa. Died: 12-16-2003, Landis Homes, Lititz, Pa.

Daughter of: Late Amos W. and Elizabeth Kreider Myer

Survivors: Sister, Martha Shelly of Manheim, Pa. and brothers, Paul K. of Lititz, and Roy K. of Akron, Pa. Preceded in death by three sisters, Ada Myer, Ruth Hall, and Anna Beam; and three brothers, Leon, Mark and Elias.

Mary was a member of New Holland Mennonite Church, New Holland, Pa. She was a seamstress.

Services: Landis Homes, West Bethany Chapel, on Saturday, 12-20-2003 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Ron Zook, Chaplain Mary Yunginger Rittenhouse, officiating. Interment in New Holland Mennonite Church Cem., New Holland, Pa.

Myers, Melvin G.
, 85, Hephzibah, GA died May 22, 2003. He was born on Jan. 27, 1918 at Doylestown, Pa. to John C. and Bertha Myers. His wife is Viola Histand Myers, whom he married on June 9, 1945.

Mr. Myers was a member of the Hephzibah Mennonite Church. Mr. Myers was ordained as a minister in 1954 and served in that capacity for 34 years. He had lived in Pennsylvania and West Virginia before moving to Georgia for the last 23 years of his life.

Survived by his wife Viola, a daughter, Linda Shifflett of Weyers Cave, Va.; two sons, Allen Myers of Knoxville, Md. and Timothy Myers of Keysville, GA; and 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Esther Derstine of Doylestown, Pa.

Mr. Myers is preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Funeral service was May 25, 2003 at the Hephzibah Mennonite Church with Pastors Austin Hege, Gerald Eshleman and Howard Brubaker officiating. Interment followed at the Hephzibah Mennonite Church Cemetery, Hephzibah, Ga.
