Wenger, Rhoda E.,

Daughter of: Late Amos D. and Anna May Lehman Wenger.

Preceded in death by brothers, Amos Jr., and Paul Wenger; sisters, Mary Kratz and Anna May Garber.

Miss Wenger was a school teacher and administrator with Eastern Mennonite Mission.  She served 50 years in Tanzania ans Somalia and with Lighthouse Literature in St. Croix, Virgin Islands.  She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church, Chesapeake, Va.

Services: Memorial Service atWest Bethany Chapel of Landis Homes, 1001 Oregon Road, Lititz, Pa. on Saturday July 26, 2003 at 3:00 p.m.

Yoder, Ivan B.

Dec. 28, 1921-April 9, 2003

GOSHEN - Ivan B. Yoder, 81 of Greencroft, formerly of C.R 30 in Elkhart, died at 6:17 p.m Wednesday (April 9, 2003) at Goshen General Hospital.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home in Wakarusa. A graveside service will be at  p.m. Saturday at Olive West Cemetery, followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m. at Olive Mennonite Church. The Rev Peter Buller will officiate.

Mr. Yoder was born to Harvey and Eliza (Newcomer) Yoder on Dec. 26, 1921, in Elkhart County and married Maxine Hershberger in Nappanee on Oct. 3, 1947. She died June 6, 1974.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Dina) Miller of Elkhart; one son, Jack (Ruth) of Bruning, Neb.; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Miriam) Wenger of Oklahoma; and four brothers, Merrill (Fay) of Wakarusa, David (Florence) of Elkhart, Earl (Mildred) and Carl (Ruth), both of Goshen.

A sister, Emma Hart; and brother, Paul Yoder, are deceased.

Mr. Yoder was a factory worker for 30 years and a member of Olive Mennonite Church.

Yoder, J. Otis, Dr., 88, died July 18, 2003, of Mattawana, PA. Born in Colorado in 1914, was the youngest of Levi and Mary Hershberger Yoder's seven children. He grew up in Midland, Mich., where he was ordained to the ministry in 1938. He served Mennonite churches in several states and earned a doctorate in theology and New Testament languages after his ordination. He joined the faculty of Eastern Mennonite College and Seminary in 1947. After leaving the college, he founded Heralds of Hope, preaching his first radio sermon on June 2, 1968. The ministry's weekly 30-minute Voice of Hope program is heard in seven states, featuring a sermon, commentary and a cappella singing. The weekly 15-minute Hope for Today broadcast, which debuted in 1975, is aired in Canada, Asia, Africa, the South Pacific and the Middle East.

Along with preaching sermons for broadcast, Yoder - billed as "Uncle J" - also read stories for The Children's Hour, a daily program he recorded for 21 years.

On June 23, 1939, Yoder married Isabelle King at West Liberty, Ohio. Survivors include a son, John O. Yoder; a daughter, Constance Heatwole; a sister, Elsa Arbogast of Harrisonburg, Va.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held July 24 at Chambersburg (Pa.) Mennonite Church. Burial was in the Lindale Mennonite Church Cemetery at Harrisonburg, Va.

Correction:

The report of the death of radio evangelist J. Otis Yoder (Sept. 15) should have stated that his wife, Isabelle, survives. Also among the survivors is a daughter-in-law, Arlene H. Yoder.


Yoder, Paul T., 82, of Belleville, PA died at June 3, 2003, at his home. Born July 29, 1920 to I. Newton and Edith (Sommers) Yoder. His wife, Cora M. Yoder, whom he married Sept. 2, 1944, survives.

Also surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Sue) Peachey, Mrs. Ray (Jane) Yoder and Mrs. Wayne (Sandra) Yoder, all of Belleville, PA; two brothers and a sister, Roy N. Yoder, Belleville, PA; Mrs. Earl (Rena) Auker, Oakland Mills, PA and Robert Yoder, Grand Junction, CO; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and James E. "Jim" Yoder.

He was a member of Allensville Mennonite Church and Golden Age Sunday School class, he was Director of Big Valley Men's Chorus for 30 years, he did mission work at Otelia Mennonite Church for 23 years. His funeral service was June 7, 2003 at Allensville Mennonite Church, with Revs. Eli Beachy, Gerald Peachey and Paul Bender officiating. Interment will be in Allensville Mennonite Cemetery Allensville, PA
