Haarer, Anna Slabaugh,
79, of Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN died December 8 2009 at the same place.  She was born September 11, 1930 at Topeka, Lagrange Co., IN to Moses and Anna Slabaugh.  On September 14, 1952 she was married to David M. Haarer, who was born March 25, 1930 and survives.

Surviving are children, Carlton Haarer; Eric Haarer; and Brian (Kathleen Corrado) Haarer, 6 grandchildren, and two brothers, Daniel (Ethel) Slabaugh; and Henry (Irene) Slabaugh.

Anna was a teacher of special needs children and young adults.  She taught Sunday School and enjoyed monthly meetings of Mennonite Women.

Memorial services were held December 13, 2009 at College Mennonite church, Goshen, IN with burial in Shore Mennonite Cemetery, Shipshewana, IN.

Haarer, Anna "Ann" Slabaugh
died December 8, 2009, at Goshen Hospital.  She was born September 11, 1930 to Moses and Anna in Topeka, IN.  On September 14, 1952, she married David Haarer.  He survives, along with three sons, Carlton, Eric and Brian (Kathleen Corrado), along with six grandchildren. 

Also surviving are two brothers, Daniel (Ethel) Slabaugh, Henry (Irene) Slabaugh, and one sister-in-law, Sarah Slabaugh, and many nieces and nephews.

She was a member of ta College Mennonite Church, Goshen IN. She taught Sunday school many years and enjoyed monthly meetings with the church women, both at MSU Mennonite Fellowship and at College Mennonite.

A memorial service was December 13, 2009 at the College Mennonite Church Goshen, IN.

Habermehl, Edna, 100,
of Elmira, ON, died July 18, 2009.  She was born December 4, 1908 to Albert and Annie (Shantz) Habermehl.

Surviving are three sisters, Beatrice & Edward Feick; Alice Weber; and Doris & Bill Ermel.

Four sisters, Vera Bauman, Ada Beuhler, Erma Drudge, and Ida Habermehl, and two brothers, Clayton Habermehl, and Leonard Habermehl preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held July 25, 2009 (when) at St. Jacobs Mennonite Church, St. Jacobs, Ontario with burial in St. Jacobs Mennonite Cemetery, Three Bridges, ON.

Hackman, Ada Alderfer Clemens,
101, of Edmonton, Alberta., Canada died March 24, 2009 at the same place from pneumonia and congestive heart failure. 

She was born January 6, 1908 at Souderton, Montgomery Co., PA to Gared A. and Lizzie (Alderfer) Clemens.  Gared died in 1922 and Lizzie died in 1932.

On June 15, 1929 at Franconia, Montgomery Co., PA she was married to Linford Derstine Hackman, who was born December 21, 1906 and died April 11, 1983.  They had a three month camping honeymoon trip from PA to CA to Northern Alberta, Canada accompanied by Llewelyn & Edith Groff.

Surviving are her children: Twila Steckly; Lowell Hackman (Rae Wenger); James Hackman (Jeanette Nice); Martyne Kempel (Leo Theodore); Arlin Hackman (Judith Wright); five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Phyllis Clemens.

A son, Leon Clemens Hackman and siblings, Floyd Clemens, Ruth Musselman, and Marcus Clemens preceded her in death.

Ada moved from Pennsylvania to Minnesota in 1939, to Carstairs, Alberta in 1946, and to Edmonton, Albera in 1965. She spent considerable time offering warm hospitality to out-of-town guests and traveled with Linford by car to northern Alberta to visit families who were establishing Christian Communities.

Memorial services were held in a family home July 11, 2009 at Cochrane, Rocky View County, Alberta, Canada burial in West Zion Mennonite Church Cemetery, Carstairs, Alberta, Canada.

Hahn, Alta M. Hoover
, 71, of 1371 Union Grove Road, Terre Hill, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Ephrata Twp.

Born in Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late Aaron M. and Elizabeth (Martin) Hoover. She was married 50 years on Nov. 21 to Samuel G. Hahn.

She was a homemaker and a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

Surviving in addition to her husband are five children, Eunice, married to Luke Martin of Terre Hill, Beatrice, married to Gerald Horst of Newmanstown, Ernest, married to Brenda (Zimmerman) Hahn of Kent, WA, Sharon, married to Lamar Martin of Elizabethtown, and Arnold, married to Norma (Rutt) Hahn of Middleburg; 24 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Huber of Hinkletown, and Elizabeth, married to Norman Hahn of East Earl.

Preceding her in death is a grandson, Joseph Martin; three siblings, Phares Hoover, Mary Weaver, and Martin Hoover; and a step-mother, Emma, wife of John Horning.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 11 at 9 am at the Martindale Reception Center with further services at 9:30 am at the Weaverland Mennonite Church with the Bishop Amos G. Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held at the Martindale Reception Center on Thursday from 2-8 pm. Kindly omit flowers. Arrangements with Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland.

Hallman, Elizabeth "Bessie" Beyer
, 84, of Easton, PA; formerly of Hatfield, PA. died October 12, 2009 at Chestnut Hill Manor, Brodheadsville, PA. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Harper and Sarah (Lambert) Beyer. She was the wife of the late William D. Hallman, Sr.

She was a member of Line Lexington Mennonite Church, a past member of Hatfield Lionesses and was a Girl Scout leader for over 50 years. Bessie founded Troop 177 and was leader of Troop 1182.

Survived by: William D. Hallman, Jr (Son) & wife, Patricia of Kulpsville, PA; Robert B. Hallman (Son) & wife, Jean of Reading, PA; Barbara Liberti (Daughter) & husband, Ronald of Easton, PA; Bonnie McNealy (Daughter) & husband, Rex of Dothan, AL; Edgar Beyer (Brother) of New Carlisle, OH; 11 Grandchildren; 11 Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: 2 brothers - Harper & Thomas Beyer and a sister, Cornelia Garner.

Halteman, Anna S. Stauffer
, 90, of Souderton, Montgomery Co, PA died June 11, 2009 at the same place.  She was born October 24, 1918 in Franconia Township, Montgomery Co, PA to Ambrose C. and Emma (Slotter) Stauffer.  On February 18, 1989 she was married to Ellis B. Halteman, who was born October 30, 1920 and died April 23, 1995.

Surviving are two sisters, Ella Moyer & her husband Henry; and Verna Allebach and husband Clyde.

Brothers - Leroy, Titus, Willis, Edwin, Phares, Marvin and Ambrose Stauffer; and  Sisters - Edith Anders, Martha Stauffer, Hannah Frederick, Alma Cressman, Emma Stauffer, and Eva Blosser preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held June 20, 2009 at Souderton Mennonite Homes Chapel, Souderton, PA with burial in Franconia Mennonite Church Cemetery, Telford, Montgomery Co, PA.

Halteman, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Moyer,
90, of Lansdale, Montgomery County, PA died there on March 19, 2009. 

She was born December 27 1918 in Upper Salford Township, ____ County, PA to Elmer Shatz and Mary (Moyer) Halteman.  Elmer was born July 5, 1890 and died September 16, 1983.  Mary died on February 4, 1921.

Lizzie was unmarried, but her nieces and nephews were like her children. 
Nephews: Allen Guntz, James Halteman, Kenneth Halteman.
Nieces: Lois Blosser, Grace Guntz, Janice Collins, Reta Halteman Finger, Mary Ann Conrad, Betsy Dintaman, Jennifer Schrock, and Peggy Ann Blosser.

Memorial services were held March 28, 2009 at Salford Mennonite Church, Harleysville, PA with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Hamsher, Reuben A.
, 86, of Sugarcreek, OH died September 4, 2009 at Walnut Creek, Holmes Co., OH.  He was born July 3, 1923 at Walnut Creek to Milo and Ollie (Miller) Hamsher.  On June 7, 1947 he was married to Mabel Miller, who survives.

Surviving are two sons - Art (Linda) Hamsher, and Don (Brenda) Hamsher, a  daughter - Gayle (Eric) Lehti, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three brothers - Myron (Erma) Hamsher, Robert Hamsher, James (Esther) Hamsher and two sisters - Mary Miller & Betty Martin.

Four brothers - Dallas, John, Thomas and Edward Hamsher preceded him in death.

Memorial services were held September 6, 2009 at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church, Walnut Creek, OH with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Harley, Paul Lockart
, 96, of Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN died November 29, 2009 at the same place.  He was born April 13, 1913 at Limerick, Montgomery Co., PA to Isaiah B. & Ida L.Harley.  On November 28, 1935 at Telford, PA he was married to Thelma Mae Wenger, who was born October 28, 1915 and survives.

Surviving are children, John W. (Elaine) Harley; Paul D. (Sylvia Baker) Harley; and Kathleen M. (Marlin) Aeschliman; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a brother,  Isaiah B. (Doris) Harley; and two sisters, Elizabeth L.R. Gilmore and
Ida L.R. Flewelling.

A daughter, Marie Christine Harley, a son, Timothy Kent Harley and a brother, Claude L. Harley preceded him in death.

Harman, Frances Elizabeth Suter
, 93, of Harrisonburg, Rockingham, Co., VA died November 7, 2009 at the same place.  She was born January 16, 1916 at Harrisonburg to J. Early and Pearl (Blosser) Suter.  On August 28, 1940 she was married to Frank T. Harman, who is deceased.

Surviving are children, Orden & Reba Harman, Carl & Herta Harman, Harriet & Elam Steiner, 6 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Margaret Brunk, and Mary Turner, and a brother, Daniel Suter, preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held November 11, 2009 at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, VA with burial in Weaver's Cemetery, Harrisonburg, VA.

Harman, Frances Elizabeth, 93, died November 7, 2009 at Oak Lea Nursing Home where she had been a resident. She was born on January 16, 1916 in Harrisonburg, VA, to Early and Pearl Blosser Suter. On August 28, 1940, she married Frank T. Harman who preceded her in death October 31, 1968.

She was a member of Harrisonburg Mennonite Church, she was active in the Women's Sewing Group and served as secretary to Pastor Samuel Janzen. Through out the years Frances was involved in giving to various charitable groups and supporting the VMRC auxiliary. She entertained many persons in her home and blessed others with crochet blankets and quilts she pieced or cross stitched.

Surviving are three children, Orden Harman and wife Reba; Carl Harman and wife Herta; Harriet Harman Steiner and husband Elam all of Harrisonburg, VA; six grandchildren, Randy Harman; Wes Harman; Hans Harman and wife Sarah; Ceci Gray and husband David; Yolanda Hausknecht and husband Ben; Deanna Kozel and husband Nick; ten great grandchildren, Savannah Harman; Nina and Grady Harman; Sydney, Meredith and Charlotte Gray; Anya and Samuel Hausknecht; and Deacon and Jude Kozel.

Mrs. Harman was also preceded in death by her siblings, Margaret Brunk, Mary Turner and Daniel Suter. 

Funeral service was November 11, 2009 at the Harrisonburg Mennonite Church conducted  Pastors Mark Keller and Wayne North. A private family burial will be held earlier.

Harnish, J. Nelson
, 68, of Strasburg Twp., Lancaster Co., PA died August 7, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was born September 1, 1940 in Pequea Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Clayton C. and Elizabeth (Thomas) Harnish. He was married to Lois (Buckwalter) Harnish on October 14, 1961.

He was a member of Mellinger Mennonite Church where he served as a trustee. Nelson was a full time dairy farmer in West Lampeter Twp. for 37 years. In retirement he worked part-time for Tri-Leaf Tobacco Co., Cherry Crest Adventure Farm and hauled pallets for Lapp's Pallet Repair.

Surviving is his wife and four sons, Kenneth L. husband of S. Christelle (Smith) Harnish, New Providence, PA; Barry L. husband of Vicki L. (Davis) Harnish, Willow Street, PA; Jay N., Jr. husband of Tracie L. (Mesko) Harnish, Brunswick, OH, and Mark A. Harnish, Lancaster, PA; six grandchildren, Deb, Doug, Matthew, Erin, Lauren and Makenna; two brothers, Elvin T. Harnish, husband of Martha (Newcomer) Harnish, Willow Street, PA and A. Thomas Harnish, husband of Joanne (Haverstick) Harnish, Strasburg, PA.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, I. Paul and C. Lloyd Harnish.

Harnish, Lloyd K.
, 85, formerly of Willow Street, PA died March 11, 2009, at Landis Homes, Lititz, PA. He was born July 15, 1923, in Pequea Twp. Lancaster Co., PA to Enos C. and Ella (Kreider) Harnish. He was married to Helen M. (Thomas) Harnish for 62 years.

He was a member of New Danville Mennonite Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, usher, and trustee. He served our country in the United States Navy during World War II.

Survived by three sons: J. Donald, husband of Lindsay Harnish, of Conestoga, PA: Gerald T., husband of Jean Harnish, of Bainbridge, PA and Gary Lee, husband of Charlene Harnish, of Chambersburg, PA; two brothers: Rev. Amos K., husband of Miriam Harnish, of Lancaster, PA and Parke K., husband of Kathryn Harnish, of Willow Street. PA; a sister, Esther Mae Dagen, of Lancaster, PA; nine grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his stepmother, Barbara Barr-Harnish; three brothers: Aaron K. Harnish, Clayton K. Harnish, and Enos C. Harnish, Jr.; and two sisters: Anna Mary Peifer and Elizabeth K. Weaver.

Funeral service was March 15, 2009, at the New Danville Mennonite Church, with Rev. Jay C. Garber and Rev. Curtiss Kanagy officiating. Interment was in the New Danville Mennonite cemetery, Lancaster, PA.

Harnish, Marlin S.,
60, of Lancaster, PA died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at LGHospital He was born January 9, 1949, in Lancaster, PA to J. Mylin and Frances B. (Siegrist) Harnish. He was married to Ruth A. (Mellinger) Harnish on August 2, 1980.

A member of Habecker Mennonite Church in Lancaster, PA

Survived by his wife and  a son, Alan R. Harnish, husband of Ellen; two daughters, Anita J. and Jennifer M. Harnish; three sisters, Rhoda, wife of Robert Sauder, Esther, wife of John Nolt, Edith Harnish; and a brother, Harold Harnish, and longtime companion, John Moreau.

Memorial Service was March 14, 2009  at Habecker Mennonite Church,  Lancaster, PA 17603 on Saturday, at 10 AM with Pastors Karen Sensenig and George Zimmerman officiating. Private Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Hartman, Floyd Dwight
, 94, died April 27, 2009 at Oak Lea Nursing Home. He was born on January 21, 1915, in Rockingham Co., VA to Walter E. and Della Pearl Layman Hartman. His wife Marie Reviere Hartman preceded him in death.

He attended Park View Mennonite Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving are three sisters Ruby Whitelaw and husband Ernest; Juanita McMullen and husband Don; Alta Terry, all of Harrisobnurg, VA; a friend, Frances Siever; step grandchildren, Danny R. Devier, Lynchburg, VA; and Linda Simmers Mt. Crawford, VA; four step great grandchildren.

Mr. Hartman was also preceded in death by an infant son, a brother-in-law, Marvin R. Terry and a step grandson, C.H. Devier Jr.

A graveside service was May 1, 2009 at the Mount Clinton Cemetery, conducted by Pastor Phil Kniss.

Hartman, Freman S.
, 89, of Goshen, IN died there on February 28, 2009.  He was born May 6, 1919 at at Wakarusa, Elkhart Co., IN to Amos and Susie (Lehman) Hartman.  On August 30 1986 he was married to Esther (Nelson) Mishler.

Surviving are children, Donna Oswalt, Elaine & Fred Thorpe, Charles Hartman, Floyd & Nancy Hartman, Loren Hartman, Bert and Alicia Hartman, stepson, David and Carol Nelson and stepdaughter Nancy & Allen Jackson, 16 grandchildren, 3 step-grandsons, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-grandchildren.

His first wife of 45 years - Birdena Troyer on April 13, 1985, and siblings, Viola Hostetler, Dorothy Toy, Alpheus Hartman, Gerald Hartman, Clifford
Hartman, Willis Hartman, Clarence Hartman and Bertha Freed preceded him in death.

He was a farmer and involved in Men for Missions at Shore, MDS and MCC Relief Sale.

Memorial services were held March 4, 2009 at Shore Mennonite Church, Shipshewana, Indiana with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Hartshaw, Horace B.
, 82, of 1981 Pleasant Stream Road, Trout Run, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at the Williamsport Hospital as a result of a vehicular accident.

He was born June 2, 1927, in Spring City, a son of Lewis E. and Anna Wismer Hartshaw.

Horace was a self-employed custom furniture artisan and was the last surviving craftsman that worked with Wharton Esherick. He recently completed his memoirs about working with Esherick entitled "A Pencil in the Hand of the Master." Previously, Horace and his brother had owned Hartshaw Bros. Custom Building. He was a member of the Mountain View Fellowship of the Mennonite Church, former member of the Frazer Mennonite Church and was trustee of both churches. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed traveling and interacting with people of all walks of life. Horace loved to share his faith in Jesus Christ and mostly did this through selfless acts of service.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Gertrude Brackbill and a brother, Daniel.

Surviving him is a daughter, Joanne L. (Richard) Hartman of Cogan Station; a son, Rev. Eric H. (Sherri) of Montoursville; three sisters, Marian Mysawka of Phoenixville, Catharine (Bill) Potter of Spring City, and Sara Frederick of Marsh Hill; and two grandchildren, Yvonne and Garrett Hartshaw.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Mountain View Fellowship along Old Barn Road, Bodines, with Rev. Herbert Eby officiating. Friends will be received in the church Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Horace B. Hartshaw to the Mountain View Fellowship, 1717 Pleasant Stream Road, Trout Run, PA 17771.

Arrangements are by Spitler Funeral Home, Montoursville.

Surviving are children, Clayton Wenger and wife Ethel; Galen Hartzler; Donald Hartzler and wife Linda; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Bertha Wenger and Nora Dickel.

Three sisters, Elsie Miller, Mattie Bontrager, and Fannie Doolin, and two brothers, Enos Miller and Daniel Miller preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held December 15, 2009 at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, Kalona, Johnson Co., IA with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Hassan, William Richard "Dick"
, 87, of Goshen, IN died April 28, 2009 at the same place.  He was born July 10, 1921 at Middlebury, IN to Clair and Bertha (Franz) Hassan.  On June 18, 1960 at Morrison, IL he was married to Hazel Nice, who was born August 31, 1925 and survives.

A brother, Kent Hassan and a sister, Roberta Jackson LeFevre preceded him in death.

Richard served as dean of students at Huntington College, Huntington, IN, 1965-1967.  He then worked as a secondary guidance counselor at Harlem High School, Machesney Park, Ill., until he retired in 1981.

Richard served on the finance committee of the Illinois Mennonite Conference and on the MCC Great Lakes Committee.  He wrote for and was the first editor of "Mennonite Heritage," serving from 1974 to 1988.  He was interested in the history of Middlebury and did extensive research and wrote several pieces about Middlebury's historic landmarks.

Memorial services were held May 1, 2009 at College Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN with burial in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury, IN.

Heatwole, Anna Magdalene
, 87, a resident of 2156 Country Store Lane, Dayton, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009. Ms. Heatwole was born on Nov. 9, 1921, in Dayton, and was a daughter of the late Calvin S. and M. Florence Beery Heatwole.

She was a homemaker, caretaker and a member of Pleasant View Old Order Mennonite Church.

Ms. Heatwole is survived by a sister, Grace Lahman and husband, Roy, of Dayton; two brothers, Paul S. Heatwole and wife, Orpha, of Dayton, Joseph N. Heatwole of Timberville; 22 nieces and nephews, and a number of great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Showalter, and a brother, Harold Heatwole.

The ministers of the church will conduct a funeral service on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Pleasant View Old Order Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The body will be taken to the home of Ruth and Etta Showalter, 2156 Country Store Lane, Dayton, where they will receive friends at anytime.

McMullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Heatwole, Lelia Alice Bowman
was born to the late Luther and Ottie Bowman on Aug. 2, 1921. She died at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 20 days at the Oak Lea Nursing Home. She had lived in the VMRC Village and Crestwood before residing at Oak Lea for 20 months as her health declined.

On Sept. 13, 1941, Mrs. Heatwole married James Wesley Heatwole, who preceded her in death in the year 2000.

Mrs. Heatwole was a gifted and very organized homemaker. She was a precise seamstress, knitter, crocheter and quilter and left many beautifully crafted memories for her family. She was a gardener and great cook and often entertained large numbers of guests at her table. She loved caring for small children and gave a home to 15 foster children over the years after raising her own family.

Seven children survive. One son, Daryl (Bea) Heatwole of Weyers Cave; six daughters, Janice Pattis of Williamsburg, Karen (Fred) Eberly, Linda Heatwole, and Barbara (Gary) O'Brien, all of Harrisonburg, Glennys Shouey and Debra (Alvin) Showalter of Mount Crawford. She left behind eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One granddaughter and a son-in-law preceded her in death.

Also surviving are two siblings, Vada (Dwight) Swartz of Dayton and Linden (Nona) Bowman of Harrisonburg. She was preceded in death by one sister, Brownie Bowman Burkholder and seven brothers, Millard, Durwood, Roy, Howard, Paul, Joseph and Wade Bowman.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Pike Mennonite Church. Interment will follow at the Pike Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Heebner, Albert R., Jr.
, 82, of   Danville, PA died March 8, 2009, at Emmanuel Center of Maria Joseph Manor, Danville. He was born January 10, 1927, near Lansdale, PA to Albert R. Sr. and Alice Z. (Rittenhouse) Heebner Sr. He married the former Kathryn Steinly on Sept. 11, 1948, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

He was a founding member of Derry Mennonite Church, Danville, PA and a former Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and song leader there. Recently he was a member of Community Mennonite Fellowship Church, Milton, PA.

Survived by his wife, Kathryn, and six children, Dean Heebner and wife Tammy of Danville, PA; David Heebner and wife Tina of Clifton, Va.: Deborah Heebner of Anchorage, Alaska: Dorcas Cardwell and husband Kendall of Boston, MA, Dorothy Hartman and husband Bill of Oley, PA and Dan Heebner and wife Brydi of Williamsburg, Va.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Jones, Andrew, Marissa, Lauren, Charlie, Samantha and Elijah Heebner, Abbey and Stephanie Hartman; two great-grandchildren, Melodie and Kimberli Jones; and one sister, Sarah Benner of Souderton, PA.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Seitz, and one brother, Norman Heebner. Funeral service was March 16, 2009 at Community Mennonite Church, Milton, with his pastor, the Rev. David Martino, officiated.

Burial was in the Beaver Run Mennonite Cemetery, rural Turbotville, PA.

Heffley, Luke W.
, 78, of Denver, entered into rest at Ephrata Community Hospital on Sunday, November 8, 2009.

Born in Ephrata Township, he was the son of the late Jacob J. and Virginia Ruth (Wanner) Heffley.

He was a member of Mohler's Church of the Brethren for over 50 years. A volunteer at the Ephrata Cloister, he also served as a church historian for many years.

Luke was a graduate of the Chambersburg High School Class of 1950 and had worked as a truck driver for Hess Food and Four Seasons.

Surviving are his three children: David, husband of Mary (Miller) Heffley of Myerstown, Linda Till of Mechanicsburg, and Thomas Heffley of Lebanon; two sisters: Miriam, wife of Clarence Wingert of Hanover and Rhoda Heffley of Myerstown; 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Abram and Paul Heffley.

A viewing will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, November 11 and also one hour prior to services at Mohler's Church of the Brethren, 21 E. Mohler Church Road, Ephrata. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday with Pastor Glenn Faust officiating. Interment will follow in the Steinmetz Cemetery, West Cocalico Township.

Helmuth, Dena Chupp
, 87, of Walnut Creek, OH, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Walnut Hills Retirement Home. She was born Feb. 3, 1921, in Millersburg, IN., to Jacob and Dena Chupp, and married Truman Helmuth of Millersburg, IN on Dec. 24, 1961. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1998.

She was a member of Mount Olive Christian Fellowship.  [A Berea Amish Mennonite Church]

Surviving are stepsons, Harley (Patricia) Helmuth of Pleasant Hill, OH and Emory (Alma) Helmuth of Plain City, OH; eight step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; three brothers; four sisters; a step-granddaughter; and a step-great-granddaughter.

Funeral Service was held January 28, at Peniel Christian Fellowship, Holmesville, OH with Mose Miller, Steven Miller and Nathan Yoder officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Helmuth, Fern Marie Zehr


Fern Marie Helmuth, 91, of Arthur died at 1:11 a.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009, at The Arthur Home.

There will be a family graveside service at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Arthur Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Arthur Mennonite Church, 710 E. Park, with Rev. Glen Rhodes officiating.  Visitation was held from Tuesday evening at the church. Shrader Funeral Home, Arthur is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Helmuth was born February 27, 1918, in Goodfield. She was the daughter of Daniel A. and Katie (Birkey) Zehr. She married Orva S. Helmuth on November 20, 1938. in Fisher. They moved to a farm in rural Arthur. He survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Schulz and husband Alvin of Madison, Wisconsin; three sons, Harold Helmuth and wife Esther of Arthur, Maurice Helmuth and wife Jean of Mt. Zion; Omar Helmuth and wife Priscilla of Elkhart, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 10  great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wilmer Zehr and wife Evelyn of Champaign.

She was preceded in death by her parents two sisters, and two brothers.

Mrs. Helmuth and her husband were charter members of Arthur Mennonite Church where they were very involved in many areas of their life. She was also busy as a housewife with gardening, canning, and sewing.

In 1949, they helped out with a small Sunday school outreach program near Sullivan for a year. In 1970, they served a 1 1/4-year term of voluntary service at a small chapel in Aspen, Colorado. In 1976, they served a 6-month term of voluntary service at a training school for Indian pastors in Tempe, Arizona, and again in 1983 for a short term.

Memorials are suggested to Arthur Mennonite Church.

George B. Helmuth, 63, of rural Arthur passed away at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at the family residence, 284 North County Road 200 East with Bishop Omer A. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery in rural Arcola. Visitation is any time prior to the funeral at the family residence. Edwards Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Helmuth was born November 5, 1945, in rural Arthur. He was a son of Benjamin "B.J.K." and Edna G. (Marner) Helmuth. He married Lorene J. Miller on May 8, 1975, in Arthur. She survives.

Also surviving are seven children, Daniel Helmuth, at home, Rose Anna Mast and husband Alton of Arcola, Mary Edna Helmuth of Marion, Michigan, Katie Marie Helmuth, Johnny G. Helmuth, James G. Helmuth, and Samuel G. Mr. Helmuth was owner of B.J.K. Helmuth and Son Engine Repair Shop, and he was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Lizzie Ann Helmuth, 96, of Sarasota, formerly of Kokomo, Ind., died Aug. 17, 2009.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Bay Shore Mennonite Church. Interment will be at Palms Memorial Park.

Survivors include son Larry of Sarasota; two granddaughters, Melissa Helmuth and Mary Money; and one great-grandson, Bailey Helmuth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Helmuth.

She loved to sew and quilt. She was an active quilter for the Salvation Army for many years and a member of the Bay Shore Mennonite Church since 1951.

, age 87 died July 14, 2009 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim, PA, He was born April 26, 1922, in West Lampeter Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Christ L. and Anna Klaus Herr. He was married to Jane Smith Ober on July 26, 1944 for 64 years.

Surived by his wife and two daughters, Peggy, wife of Henry Erb, of Lancaster, PA and Carol, wife of Larry Huber, of Manheim, PA; six grandchildren; nine great grand children; and son-in-law, Gary Lehman, of Manheim, PA. a brother, Jacob, husband of Mildred Herr, and a sister, Arlene, wife of Mervin McMichael, all of Lancaster, PA.

He was preceded in death by a loving daughter, Kay Lehman, in 2007, two brothers, and two sisters. A celebration of John's life was July 18, 2009 at the Lititz Mennonite Church, Lititz, PA, Interment will be in East Petersburg Mennonite Cemetery, East Petersburg, PA.

Toby J. Herschberger, 85, of Sullivan passed away at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at his residence in rural Sullivan.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Helmuth Custom Kitchens one mile south of Arthur on the County Line Road with Bishop Omer Otto officiating. Burial was in Otto Cemetery in rural Arthur. Visitation was any time after noon on Thursday at Helmuth Custom Kitchens. Edwards Funeral Home, Arcola, assisted with funeral arrangements.

Mr. Herschberger was born August 15, 1924, in Douglas County. He was a son of Jacob E. and Katie A. (Diener) Herschberger. He married Lydia Ann (Chupp) on September 11, 1952, in Moultrie County. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Olen Herschberger and wife Christine of Castle Rock, Colorado; four daughters, Kathryn Mullet and husband Marvin of Sullivan, Rosanna Helmuth and husband Glen of Belvidere, Tennessee, Ruth Gingerich and husband Ivan of Arcola, and Laura Herschberger of Sullivan; 11 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 47 step great-grandchildren; 3 step great-greatgrandchildren; and two sisters, Alma Kauffman of Arcola and Alta Yoder of Roodhouse.

, 92, of Kalona, Washington County, Iowa died June 25, 2009 at the same place from natural causes.  She was born February 1, 1917 at Wellman, Washington, Iowa to Erlis and Martha (Marner) Brenneman.  On September 18, 1938 at Wellman she was married to Clyde Hershberger.

Surviving are children, Cecil Hershberger; Elaine Cole; Bea Knepp; Herb and Deny Hershberger; Larry and Marilyn Hershberger; and Linda and Sonny Cole; 25 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, and siblings, Dayle and Leah Brenneman; Merle and Marcia Brenneman; Wilma Yoder; Iona Swartzendruber; Leta Mae Schneider; Arlene and John Snyder; and Lucine and Ted Morrison.

Hershey,  Elmer N.
, 96, formerly of Gordonville, PA died October 7, 2009, at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster, PA. He was born February 6, 1913, in Salisbury Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Frank Hershey and Lydia (Buckwalter) Hershey. Elmer was married to the late Edna Mae Phenneger on March 8, 1939.

He was a lifelong member of the Paradise Mennonite Church (now Grace Point Church). Elmer was a successful dairy farmer and was helpful to neighbors and always quick with a humorous one liner or interesting anecdote.

Survived by two sons and one daughter: Alvin, husband of Deborah of Elizabethtown, PA; Albert, husband of Sandra of Gordonville, PA and Linda Hershey McDonald of Lancaster, PA. Elmer's oldest son Carroll, husband of Naomi of Elizabethtown, passed away April 19, 1999. Elmer is also survived by eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Arlene Eshleman Hershey of Oxford and brother-in-law Daniel Martin of Lititz.

Memorial Service was October 16, 2009 at Grace Point Church, Paradise, PA with Pastor Fred Martin officiating. Burial was in the Paradise Mennonite Cemetery.

47, of Columbia, PA, died May 7, 2009. She was born in Lancaster, PA to John M., Jr. and Anna E. (Martin) Slaymaker. She was the wife of Glenn A. Hertzler. She was a member of Blue Rock Mennonite Church.

Survivied by her husband, parents and children, Glendon E., Lucinda A., Kimberly M. Hertzler, all at home; a sister, Debbie S. Walker, of Lititz, PA; two brothers, M. Dale Slaymaker, husband of Marjorie, of Washington Boro, PA; and John M. Slaymaker, III husband of Martha, of Columbia, PA.

She was preceded in death by daughter, Melody Rose in 2003. Funeral Service was May 13, 2009 at the Blue Rock Mennonite Church, Interment was in Blue Rock Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, PA.

Hertzler, Emanuel C.
92, of Granger, IN died January 28, 2009. He was born January 7, 1917 in Norristown, PA, to Aldus and Ellen (Kratz) Hertzler.  He married Myrtle Schnell on June 14, 1942 in Orville, Ohio.  She died May 9, 1991.
A resident of the area since 1991, Mr. Hertzler was a professor at Kent State University and University of Michigan.  He was a member of Kern Road Mennonite Church South Bend, IN and a former member of College Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN.

Survived by three daughters, Barbara (Barton) Cassel Hertzler Martin of Madison, WI, Linda Louise Hertzler Pierard of Melbourne, Australia, and Suzanne (Daniel Scarsella) Scarsella Hertzler of Granger, IN; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Naomi (John) Bender of Delores, Colorada and Ruth (Galen) Swope of Sarasota, FL; two brothers, Aldus (Ruth) Hertzler of Souderton, PA, and Elam (Martha Blank) Hertzler of Sarasota, FL; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn (Harold Bauman) Hertzler of Goshen, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife; a sister, Sally Hertzler; and a brother, Paul Hertzler.

Funeral service was January 31, 2009, at the Kern Road Mennonite Church, South Bend, IN with Pastors Dave Sutter, Janice Sutter, Andre Gingerich Stoner and Rachel Miller-Jacobs will officiate. Burial was in Violett Cemetery, Goshen, IN

, 82, of Lancaster, PA died April 4, 2009.  He was born in Lancaster, PA to Christ G. and Edna Snyder Hess. He was married to Eunice Bergey Hess for 57 years.

A member of the Neffsville Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA.

Surviving is his wife and sons, Gerald (Jerry) Hess of Lancaster, PA and Daniel Hess of Fairbanks, AK; daughters, Carol Martin of Crestview, FL, Julia Nolt of Lancaster, PA; Kathleen Shuman of Marietta, PA and Twila Sauder of Lititz, PA; 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. a brother, Clyde Hess of East Ridge, TN.  

Herb was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Hess Landis, Louis Hess Herr and Sara Ann Hess Showalter.

Funeral service was April 8, 2009 at the Neffsville Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA. Interment was in Landis Valley Mennonite Cemetery Lancaster, PA.

Hess, Daniel
, 57, of Nokomis, Florida, died January 23, 2009. He was born August 22, 1951 in Harrisonburg, VA to James and Beatrice Hess, at the age of three months he went with his parents for Honduras, Central America they served for nearly 20 years as missionaries under Eastern Mennonite Missions. Dan grew up in Honduras.

Survived by his wife, Beverly Strickler, and children; Heather, Alisia wife of Rev. Derek Thompson, and Bryan. His parents and  two siblings: J. Richard, husband of Mary Buckwalter of Homestead FL, and Liz Hess of Lancaster, PA. He was preceded in death by a brother Gerald Hess, just 8 months ago.

He was an active member of the Fellowship of Believers Church in Sarasota Florida where services were held January 31, 2009. He was buried in Sarasota, FL

Hess, Elvin S.
, 81, of Manheim, PA (formerly of Elizabethtown, PA) died September 2, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Manor Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Benjamin G. and Anna M. Smith Hess. He was the husband of Miriam B. Rutt Hess, with whom he celebrated 49 years of marriage this past June 4th.

He was a member of Neffsville Mennonite Church Lancaster, PA. Elvin was an Agricultural Education teacher for 19 years in the Elizabethtown School District until his retirement in 1992. Elvin also owned a Lawn Doctor franchise in Hershey.  Survived by his wife and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Naomi Hess.

A memorial service was September 6, 2009 at Neffsville Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA.

, 102, of Moundridge, KS died September 2, 2009 in the same place.  She was born March 17, 1907 in Oklahoma to Klaas and Anna (Wiens) Dick.  On April 7, 1929 she was married to Albert Hiebert, who died July 27, 1962.

High, John N.
, 78, of Honey Grove, PA died November 12, 2009 at the Lewistown Hospital. He was born on August 16, 1931, in Lancaster Co., PA to Elmer Z. and Mary (Nolt) High. His wife of nearly 58 years, Nora K. (Martin) High, whom he married on December 29, 1951 survives.

Mr. High was a member of the Cocolamus Mennonite Church, Bunkertown, PA.
John spent more than thirty years farming in Illinois and later during his retirement he preformed carpentry, until his health declined.He enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop and gardening as well as fishing and hunting with his grandchildren.

Survived by his wife and children: David High and his wife Lavina of Pitman, PA; John High, Jr. and his wife Doreen of Bluford, Ill., Irene Martin of Anna, Ill., Karen Nolt and her husband Leon of Honey Grove, PA, Mark High and his wife Cheryl of Wayne City, Ill., Lorraine Moser and her husband Joni, Spring Grove, PA; one daughter-in-law, Dawn High of Unity, Wis., eight siblings, Mary Hoover and her husband Eli of Reinholds, PA; Aaron High of New Holland, PA; Lydia Sensenig of Terre Hill, PA; Ada Long of Ephrata, Pa; Esther Nolt and her husband Irvin of Ephrata, PA; Ivan High of Rock, PA; Vera Zimmerman of New Holland, PA; Laura Martin and her husband Ivan of Ephrata, PA  and he leaves behind 48 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were one son, Curvin High, one son-in-law Carl Martin, two brothers, Melvin High and Edwin High, and one sister, Emma Reiff. Funeral service was November 16, 2009 at Cocolamus Mennonite Church, Bunkertown, PA with Bishop Bernell Zimmerman, Pastor Harlan Martin, Pastor Joel Landis and Deacon James Shirk officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery, Richfield, PA

, age 17, of Christie, WI died at his home on Friday, May 22, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the Pine Grove Mennonite Church, in Granton, WI.

Jonathan H. High was born on December 4, 1991 in Loysville, PA, the son of Stephen W. and Amelia O. (Hoover) High.

He will be dearly missed by his parents, Stephen and Amelia High, and his 11 siblings; his maternal grandparents: Raymond H. and Ruth W. Hoover; his paternal grandfather: Leon M. High and his wife Katie; his maternal great-grandparents: Ivan and Lydia Hoover and John Oberholtzer; his paternal great-grandmother, Mary Weaver; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Marian High; his paternal great-grandparents: Melvin and Verna High, and Ammon Weaver; and his maternal great-grandmother, Esther Oberholtzer.

, 91, of Pleasant View Retirement Community, died May 23, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Clever B. and Lizzie Witmer Dillman. She was the wife of the late Paul H. High who died in 1992. She was a member of Erb Mennonite Church, Manheim, PA.

Survived by five children; P. Eugene High married to Bette J. of Strasburg, Marvin L. High married to Eloise, Nancy J. Kautz, Raymond M. High married to Anita J. all of Lititz, Joyce Marlene High of Manheim, PA thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Hochstedler, Rebecca Mast


Rebecca Hochstedler, 78, of Arthur passed away at 10:02 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2009, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday) at the Otto Center in rural Arthur with Bishop Howard Kuhns officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in rural Arcola. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Otto Center. Edwards Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Hochstedler was born on February 6, 1931, in Arthur. She was a daughter of Andrew L. and Lydia (Schrock) Mast. She married Omer J. Hochstedler on January 29, 1953, in Arthur. He passed away on November 7, 2007.

She is survived by one daughter, Marjorie Herschberger and husband Ira of Arcola; one son, Dale Hochstedler and wife Lucinda of Mocksville, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; 9 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Fred Mast and wife Mary of Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Sovilla Gingerich and husband Elva and Anna Plank and husband Joni, all of Arthur; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Mast of Arthur; and one brother-in-law, Abe Gingerich of Arthur.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers, William, Jonas, Levi, and Joe Mast; and one sister, Sarah Gingerich.
Mrs. Hochstedler was a member of the Pleasant View Church in rural Arcola.

Hochstetler, Audrey Swartzendruber
, died October 1, 2009, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona, IA. She was born July 23, 1921, near  Parnell, IA, to Urie and Norma Kinsinger Swartzendruber. On November 16, 1944, she was united in marriage to Emery J. Hochstetler, he died Oct 2004. She was a member of West Union Mennonite Church, Parnell, IA.

In addition to raising five children on their farm near Oxford, Iowa, Audrey enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, rug making and travel. Audrey [died] following a brief illness, at the age of 88 years.

Survived by 5 children: Jim Hochstetler of New York, NY, Jane (Dale) Garber of Garden City, MO, Marla (Randy) Longenecker of Belle Fountaine, OH, Bill (Rosie) Hochstetler of Iowa City, IA and Angela (Mark) Fretz of Lancaster, PA; 11 grandchildren: Gina Urbanek, Tim, Kristi and Charlie Garber, Chris, Angie (Strite) and Katie Longenecker, Justin, Jenny and Joe Hochstetler and Elyse Hochstetler Fretz; 3 great grandchildren: Ellen Garber, Sophia Garber and Ella Strite; a brother Dale Swartzendruber of Kalona; and a sister Fern Eash of Wellman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Emery, 2 infant sons; and a sister Mary Lois Swartzendruber. Celebration of Life Service was October 5, 2009, at the West Union Mennonite Church, Pastor David Boshart and Pastor

Hochstetler, Audrey Swartzendruber, 88, of Kalona, IA died October 1, 2009 at the same place.  She was born July 23, 1921 at Parnell, Iowa to Urie and Norma (Kinsinger) Swartzendruber.  On November 16, 1944 she was married to Emery J. Hochstetler, who was born October 14, 1918 and died October 26, 2004.

Surviving are children, Jim Hochstetler; Jane (and Dale) Garber; Marla (and Randy) Longenecker; Bill (and Rosie) Hochstetler; and Angela (and Mark) Fretz;
11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, a brother, Dale Swartzendruber; and a sister, Fern (and Don) Eash.

Two infant sons and a sister, Mary Lois Swartzendruber preceded her in death.

Audrey was a member of West Union Mennonite Church. In addition to raising five children on their farm near Oxford, Iowa, Audrey enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, rug making and travel.

, 78, of Goshen, Indiana died December 4, 2009 at the same place.  He was born March 6, 1931 in LaGrange County, Indiana to Urias and Anna (Miller) Hochstetler.  On December 11, 1955 at Middlebury, Indiana he was married to Edna Mae Troyer, who was born October 4, 1934 and survives.

Surviving are a son, Devon Hochstetler; a daughter, Karen (Tom) Yoder; five grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Katie (Daniel) Beachy, and Edna Mae Hostetler, and a brother, Amos Hochstetler.

Chris worked as a purchasing agent from 1966 to 1998 at Syndicate Systems in Middlebury.  He was a member of First Mennonite Church, Middlebury, for 52 years and was very active as a sound technician and Sunday school teacher.  He had been a member of the Crystal Valley Exchange Club and was a past vice president of the Middlebury Community Historical Museum.  He was an avid learner and loved to keep up with the latest technology.

Memorial services were held December 9, 2009 at First Mennonite Church, Middlebury, Indiana with burial in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury, Indiana.

, 77, of Nappanee, IN died July 16, 2009 at Wakarusa, IN.  She was born June 6, 1932 at Bremen, IN to Nathaniel and Betty (Thomas) Miller.  On August 20 1950 at Nappanee, IN she was married to Henry Hochstetler, who survives.

Surviving are children, Henry Hochstetler; Anna (Gary) Weaver; Diana (Steve) Yoder; and Debra (Dennis) Neidig; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Catherine (Menno) Hochstetler; Sylvia (Jacob) Hostetler; and Betty (Russel) Yates.

A daughter, Angela Sue Hochstetler preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held July 20 2009 at North Main Street Mennonite Church, Nappanee, IN with burial in South Union Cemetery, Nappanee, IN.

, 59, of Orrville, OH died December 29, 2009, at her residence. Lois was born on March 22, 1950, in Wooster, OH to Milton and Ella (Amstutz) Rohrer and married Harold J. Hochstetler on August 26, 1978. He survives. Lois was a member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday School, served on various commissions, and previously served on the Church Board.

Survived by her husband, Harold, and  four sons, Matthew (Megan) Hochstetler of Wooster, OH; Jeffrey Hochstetler of Goshen, IN; Justin (Abri) Hochstetler of Indianapolis, IN; and Eric Hochstetler of Orrville, OH; her mother, Ella Rohrer of Orrville, OH; three brothers, M. David (Velda) Rohrer of Orrville,OH; Paul (Alta) Rohrer of Orrville, OH; and John (Betty) Rohrer of Plain City, OH; a sister, Julia (Robert) Beyeler of Orrville, OH; and many nieces and nephews.   

She was preceded in death by her father, Milton D. Rohrer.

A memorial service was January 4, 2010, at Oak Grove Mennonite Church with Rev. Douglas J. Zehr officiating. Burial took place prior to the service in the Oak Grove Mennonite Cemetery Smithville, OH.

91, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA (formerly of Lititz, PA) died January 5, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was born June 26, 1917 in East Earl Twp., Lancaster Co., PA, to Daniel L. and Rebecca (Stoltzfoos) Diem. She was married to Raymond W. Hollinger who died in 1995.

Survived by her two sons, J. Larry, husband of Joanne (Shreiner) Hollinger of Manheim, PA and R. Dennis, husband of Linda (Nolt) Hollinger of Shaefferstown, PA; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Earl and Ray Diem.

Hooley, Nettie J. Classen
, 89, of North Lawrence, OH died May 23, 2009 at Dalton, Wayne Co., OH from a stroke.  

She was born March 12, 1920 in Meade County, KS to John L. and Marie A. (Reimer) Classen.   Marie July 11, 1893-____.  John ____-April 5, 1985.

On July 20 1947 in Hillsboro, Marion Co., KS she was married to Clarence David Hooley, who was born October 16, 1919 and died May 1, 2005.

Surviving are children, David J. Hooley (Jane), Donald E. Hooley (Mary Ina),  and Daniel R. Hooley (Julia), 6 grandchildren, and a sister, Selma Ulbrich (Adolf).

Four brothers, David J. Classen, Andrew J. Classen, Daniel J. Classen, and Jonas J. Classen preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held May 23, 2009 at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, North Lawrence, Stark Co., OH with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

He was born in Ephrata, a son of Allen G. and Rachel B. (Reiff) Hoover.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Justin R. Hoover, and sisters, Elaine Joy Hoover and K Hoover, all at home; paternal grandparents, Frank and Esther (Garman) Hoover of New Holland, maternal grandparents, Paul and Fannie (Burkholder) Reiff of Elma, IA, and paternal great grandmother, Emma Garman of Narvon.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith R. Hoover, and a sister, Jeanette R. Hoover.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at the Farm Crest Chapel at Fairmount Homes, 1100 Farm Crest Drive, Ephrata.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the Farm Crest Chapel with further services at 9:30 a.m. at the Groffdale Mennonite
Church, West Earl Twp., with Bishop Amos Martin officiating.

, 91, of Landis Homes Retirement Community, formerly of Mountville, PA died February 23, 2009 at the Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster, PA. She was born February 11, 1918 in Pequea Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Jacob and Fannie Mellinger Sangrey. She was married to Malvin E. Hoover who died in 1999. 

A member of the Mellinger Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA.

Surviving are three sons, Kenneth S. A Funeral Service was February 27, 2009 at the Mellinger Mennonite Church, with Rev. Leon Oberholtzer, Rev. Joe Miller and Rev. Jason Kuniholm officiating. Interment was in the Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, PA.

, 86, of Lititz, entered into rest at Fairmount Homes on Monday, June 1, 2009.

Born in Earl Township, he was the son of the late Ammon and Katie (Heller) Hoover and the husband of Lydia (Hurst) Hoover. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past December.

A member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference, he was a farmer for many years and was later employed by Paul B. Zimmerman, Inc.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Raymond, husband of Ruth Hoover of Lititz; Earl, husband of Luella Hoover of Lititz; Lamar, husband of Joy Hoover of Robesonia; and Ernest, husband of Louise Hoover of Manheim; three daughters: Rachel, wife of Irvin Martin of Shippensburg; Etta, wife of Walter Wise of Womelsdorf; and Lorraine, wife of Stanley Martin of Lititz; one brother, Ammon, husband of Ella Hoover of Manheim; three sisters, Sarah Weaver of Vineland, NJ; Verna Horning of Myerstown; and Kathryn, wife of Lloyd Wenger of Lititz; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hoover of Lititz; 57 grandchildren, and 165 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Hoover, his brother, Titus Hoover, 1 grandson and 1 great-grandson.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 PM, Sunday, June 7, at Martindale Fellowship Center, 352 Martindale Road, Ephrata. Martha was a member of the Martindale Mennonite Church (Groffdale Conference).

She had been employed by Yoder's Market, New Holland in the Deli Kitchen until February of this year.

, 42, of Denver, PA died September 15, 2009 at Hershey Medical Center.

Born in Grove City, PA to Paul D. and Patricia L. (Gilmore) Johnston of Sandy Lake, PA. Her husband was Cliff Horning, survives.  

She was a member of Gehman's Mennonite Church, Rienholds, PA where she taught vacation Bible school and served on the Outreach Committee.

Survived by her husband and parents and two sons: William P. and Daniel J., both at home, two sisters: Tammy L. Rose, Sandy Lake, PA and Paula L. Mistry, North Andover, MA and a paternal grandfather, Paul L. Johnston, Sandy Lake. PA.

, 90, of 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, formerly of 121 Horizon Dr., Denver, died Friday, September 25, 2009 at Fairmount Homes.

Born in Brecknock Twp., she was the daughter of the late Barton G. and Mary Jane (Good) Horning.

Sarah was a homemaker and a member of the Red Run Mennonite Church where she was involved in the sewing circle. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, needlework and cooking.

Surviving are two sisters, Anna B. Weber, Ephrata and Florence Risser, Mercersburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters: Ruth I. Hurst, Miriam G. Horning, M. Kathleen Horning, and Jennie G. Martin, and four brothers: Lewis G. Horning,
Paul G. Horning, Eugene G. Horning and G. Sylvan Horning.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 10 AM at the Bowmansville Mennonite Church, 129 Pleasant Valley Rd., East Earl with Pastor J. Carl Sensenig, Pastor Melvin Weaver and Chaplain Paul Gehman officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Friday from 9 to 10 AM. Horst, Adam W.
, 60, of Centre Twp., Berks Co., [PA] went home to be with his Savior on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 9:45 am. He died in Montgomery Hospital, Montgomery Co., [PA] where he was taken after collapsing while at work. He was the husband of Elizabeth R. (Martin) Horst.

They were married on June 14, 1969 and celebrated 40 years of marriage with an Alaskan cruise.

Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Adam M. and Annie S. (Weaver) Horst.

Adam owned and operated a poultry farm in Perry Twp., Berks Co., for 24 years. He had also worked at BARCO Industries, Greenfields, Bern Twp., Berks Co. Since
April 24, 2003, he worked as a driver supervisor for United Document Destruction and Storage Company,

Tuckerton, last working Friday. Adam was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship, Bernville, where he was a deacon for many years. He was a member of
Gideon's Society.

Adam was a hard-working family man who loved his children and grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Randall S. Horst, West Lawn; and Bryan T., husband of Donielle A. Bailey Horst, Perry Twp.; and two daughters:
Sherry L. (Horst), wife of Patrick C. Kading, Harrisburg; and Karen L. (Horst), wife of John E. Williams, Leesport.

There are two brothers: Henry W. Horst, Lititz; and James W. Horst, Stevens; and six sisters: Mary W. (Horst) Burkholder, Kutztown; Mabel W. (Horst) Newswenger, Roaring Springs; Lena W. Horst; and Irene W. Horst, both of East Earl; Ella Mae (Horst) Zimmerman, Akron; and Ruth W. Horst, Wernersville. There are three grandchildren: Jeremy R. Horst, Olivia E. Kading, and Noah P. Kading. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Mabel Horst, of East Earl, widow of brother Paul W. Horst; and Eunice Horst, of Lykens, widow of brother Lloyd W. Horst. Adam was also predeceased by two sisters: Nora W. Horst and Anna W. Horst.

Services will be on Wednesday at 10:00 am from St. Luke's Union Church, Fifth and Franklin Streets, Shoemakersville, with Pastor Marquel Ortiz officiating.
Burial will be in St. Luke's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held on Tuesday 6:30 to 8:30 pm from

Horst, Allen S.
, 93, of 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, formerly of Blue Ball, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 11, at Hospice of Lancaster County - Mt. Joy. His wife, Anna E. (Musser) Horst, survives. They had been married for 70 years.

Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of the late William W. and Mary (Sauder) Horst.

Allen was a builder with Raymond and Allen Horst Builders.

He was a member of New Holland Mennonite Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent and as a trustee. He had also been a member for 32 years of the Blue Ball Fire Company Auxiliary, volunteered at the Re-Uzit Shoppe and Camp Hebron, and enjoyed reading, fishing and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Miriam Engle, Keokuk, IA; Merle married to Lynette (Burkholder) Horst, Blue Ball and Earl married to Lorene (Yoder) Horst, New Holland; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and a sister, Clara Martin, New Holland.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, nine brothers, and a son-in-law, William Engle.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 14, at 11 AM at Garden Spot Village Chapel with Pastors Ron and Judy Zook and Chaplain Chester Yoder officiating. Interment will be in New Holland Mennonite Cemetery. A viewing will be held in the chapel on Saturday from 9 -11 AM. Kindly omit flowers. COLBY, Wis. - Benjamin Reuben Horst, age 60 years, of the town of Colby, died of cancer on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at his residence. His funeral was Monday,
Aug. 24, 2009, at the Owen Mennonite Church in Owen, Wis. The Owen Mennonite Church Ministry officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Benjamin was born on Sept. 6, 1948, in Maugansville, Md., the son of Reuben and Martha (Horst) Horst. On Aug. 2, 1970, he married the former Lola Amstutz.

Benjamin was a farmer all his life and was a member of the Owen Mennonite Church in Owen.

He is survived by his wife Lola of the town of Colby; three daughters, Lois (Michael)Charlton of Tremonton, Utah, Miriam Horst of New Holland, Pa., and
Eunice (Mark) Good of West Salem, Ohio; five sons, Joseph and Philip Horst of Stratford, Wis., Jonathan Horst of Lamonte, Mo., David Horst of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Andrew (Lu Ann) Horst of Dalton, Ohio. Benjamin is further survived by his six grandchildren; his parents Reuben and Martha Horst of Maugansville, Md.; one brother Chester (Helen) Horst and one sister, Anna May (Ronald) Cleary, both of Maugansville, Md.

He was preceded in death by one brother in infancy and one granddaughter.

, 85, of Lancaster, PA died  April 2, 2009 at Conestoga View. He was born in Lebanon Co., PA to Harvey K. and Kathryn M. Horst. He is survived by his wife June E. Weirich Horst with whom he was married for 64 years on June 12, 2008.

He was a member of Mellinger Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA.

He served in the United States Army as a special diets cook in Manila. He was a lifetime member of Lafayette Fire Co. Earl also served as Constable of East Lampeter Township from 1955-1979. He enjoyed playing cards and scrabble with his family.

Survived by his wife and daughters, Susan K. wife of Jay R. Reich of York Co., PA; Joanne L. wife of Robert S. Ferguson of Lancaster, PA and Elaine R. wife of Harold Wimer of Millersville, PA; son, David E. Horst, at home; three grandsons and one granddaughter; one great-grandson. Funeral service was April 8, 2009 at Mellinger Mennonite Church. Interment will follow in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, PA.

Horst, J. (John) Alton
, 84, 629 Hubbard Hill Ln, Elkhart IN died peacefully 3:00 pm Sunday August 16 at his home after an extended illness.
He was born November 8 1924 in Ephrata PA to Reuben Sweigart Horst and Ida Snyder Stoner Horst. He has one sister Ruth (Walter) Hess in Landisville PA. She is 92 years old.

He married Dorothy Mann in Elkhart June 9, 1951. She survives with three sons, John (Phyllis) Sycamore IL, David (Andrea) Tiskilwa IL, Paul (Sara) Sugar Land TX and one daughter Ruth (Roger) Shank Monroe GA. One son James Mark preceded him in death. They have 11 grandchildren and two step-grandsons.

Mr. Horst attended Eastern Mennonite High School and Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg VA and graduated from Goshen College with a BA in 1950 and THB in 1951. At the end of World War II, he served under Mennonite Central Committee in Eastern Belgium and Poland in post war reconstruction and food and clothing distribution.

Alton Horst was pastor in Mennonite churches in International Falls MN, Sumner IL and Fisher IL. He was the camp administrator at Menno Haven Camp and Retreat Center, Tiskilwa IL for 21 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Prairie Street Mennonite Church where he has been serving as an elder.

Memorial service will be at Prairie Street Mennonite Church Saturday, Sept 5 at 11:00 am (Eastern Time) with visitation before the service from 9:00 to 11:00 (Eastern Time). Memorial gifts may be given to Mennonite Mission Network, Elkhart or Church Community Services, Elkhart.

, age 90, a resident of the Mennonite Fellowship Home, 12349 Huyett Lane, Hagerstown, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at the home.

Born Oct. 16, 1919, in Maugansville, Md., he was the son of the late Harvey B. and Barbara A. (Martin) Horst.

Mr. Horst was a retired farmer and a member of the Mount Olive Mennonite Church of Maugansville.

He and his wife, Fannie (Horst) Horst, were married Nov. 7, 1940, in Hagerstown. She died May 24, 2005.

Surviving family are three sons, Lee Horst, Gettysburg, Pa., Joe M. Horst, Boonsboro, Md., and Ray Horst, Farmville, Va.; one daughter, Edith Myers, Knoxville, Md.; 22 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Horst; two grandsons; and a brother, Elmer Horst.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 10 a.m. from Mount Olive Mennonite Church, Maugansville, with the Mount Olive Mennonite Church Ministry officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church today from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service on Tuesday.

, 90, a resident of Mennonite Home, 13436 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at the home.

Born Nov. 7, 1918, in Reid, Md., she was the daughter of the late Abram G. and Susie Baer Horst.

She was a schoolteacher for more than 39 years, having taught the last 20 years at Paradise Mennonite School in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Millers Mennonite Church near Leitersburg.

She is the last of her immediate family. She is survived by 19 nephews and nieces; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Horst and Elva Horst; three brothers, Adin Horst, Irvin Horst and Lesher Horst; and two nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Millers Mennonite Church near Leitersburg. The Millers Mennonite Church Ministry will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.

, age 50, of Penn Yan, NY, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at home, after a two-year battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 7, 1958 in Lancaster County, PA, the son of Melvin Z. and Naomi L. (Martin) Horst. He was the husband of Eva Jane (Fox) Horst for 29 years. He was a member of the Milo Old Order Mennonite Church.

He owned a bicycle shop in Lancaster, PA before moving to New York in 1993, where he operated a dairy farm.

He is survived by his wife, Eva Jane; 3 sons: Melvin F. Horst and his wife Marilyn, of Riceville, Iowa; Curvin and Jason at home; 5 daughters: Eunice, wife
of Dale A. Martin; Dorcas, wife of Paul M. Hoover; Laura, wife of Matthew Z. Leid, all of Penn Yan, NY; Rachel and Elaine at home.

Also surviving are his parents, Melvin and Naomi Horst; one brother, Barton M. Horst and his wife Erlene, of New Holland, PA; 7 sisters, Mabel, wife of Titus

age 93 of Chambersburg, PA died January 13, 2009. He was the son of the late Michael Horst and Florence Eby Horst. He was married Elsie R. Horst, who died in 1994.

He is survived by his children Ronald R. (and wife Lucille) of Chambersburg, Darrell L. (husband of the late Sarah) of Chambersburg, Thomas M. (and wife Linda) of Chambersburg, Jane E. (and husband Clyde) Kuhns of Chambersburg, and Dean E. (and wife Lana) of Chambersburg; fifteen grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by four siblings, Florence Horst of Harrisonburg, VA; Lula Ross of Sarasota, FL; Nathan Horst of Chambersburg, PA; and Abram Horst of Ft. Loudon, PA.

He was preceded in death by his wife and siblings Anna Yeager, Naomi Horst, Enos Horst, and Amanda Shank.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Susan M. Horst, 46, of 10696 Five Forks Road, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Nov. 2, 1962, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Ira M. and Ruth Lehman Miller of Clear Spring.  She was a homemaker. She was a member of Waynecastle Mennonite Church near Waynesboro.

She is survived by her husband, James E. Horst, whom she married Jan. 29, 1983; one daughter, Jenny M. Horst, at home; two sons, Isaac D. Horst and Andrew L. Horst, both at home; two sisters, Charlotte R. Martin of Waynesboro, Pa., and Erma J. Martin of Smithsburg; one brother, Robert L. Miller of Clear Spring; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jay S. Horst; and one brother, David I. Miller.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Waynecastle Mennonite Church, Waynesboro. The Waynecastle Mennonite Church Ministry will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Surviving are two sons, Lynn of Palmetto, Fl., and Dale of Sweetwater, Tenn., five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three brothers, Vernon of Lewisville, Ohio; Emanuel of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Roy of Hartville, Ohio; and a sister, Esther Heisler, of Uniontown, Ohio.

Viewing & visitation was Wed. at Wiegard Brothers Funeral Home in Sarasota, FL for her Bay Shore Mennonite church family & friends.

Memorial services were held in Hartville, Ohio.

ELKHART -- Florence E. Hostetler, 81, of Elkhart, died at 4:08 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 31, 2009) in Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Canby, Ore., to Elmer and Christina (Nofzinger) Schultz. She married Samuel P. Hostetler on Sept. 11, 1948, in LaGrange. He died April 27, 2009, in Elkhart.

Mrs. Hostetler is survived by three daughters, Patricia (Daniel) Martin of Richland, Pa., Diann (Sherman) Slagle of Shipshewana and Virginia (Harvey) Kauffman of Elkhart; three sons, Dwight (Cindy) Hostetler of Marcellus, Mich., Samuel (Julie) Hostetler of Clare, Mich., and Karry (Lynda) Hostetler of Vicksburg, Mich.; three sisters, Ruth Barrow and Mabel (Jerry) Bontrager, both of Canby, and Barbara Skoale of Portland, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Ester Rodel and Helen Troyer, and two brothers, Daniel Schultz and Carl Schultz, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hostetler was a homemaker, cook and seamstress. She was a member of California Road Missionary Church.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, and for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Saturday funeral service at California Road Missionary Church, 29765 C.R. 12 W., Elkhart. Pastor Bud Walterhouse will officiate.

Burial will take place in Colon Lakeside Cemetary in Colon, Mich., on Saturday, preceded by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Eldon Martin, one of Mrs Hostetler's grandsons, a missionary in China.

Hostetler, Katherine Penner, 84, of Akron, PA died March 28, 2009 at Ephrata, Lancaster Co., PA.  She was born July 23, 1924 in Ukraine and married to John D. Hostetler, who survives.

Surviving are a son, Robert J. Hostetler and wife Lisa Wiebe Hostetler, daughter in-law, Lori Roberts Hostetler, and 3 grandchildren.

A son, Richard D. Hostetler preceded her in death.

A charter member of the Akron Mennonite Church, Katherine served on a variety of committees and worked part-time for a number of years as church secretary. Additional volunteer activities included working with the Ephrata Area Community Action Program, the Prisoner Visitation Support Program, and the Material Resource Center of Ephrata. Katherine also found enjoyment in corresponding and visiting with friends and families from around the world and listening to broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera on Saturday afternoons.

Memorial services were held April 4, 2009 at Akron Mennonite Church, Akron, Lancaster Co., PA.

Hostetler, Katherine Penner, 84, of Akron, PA, died March 28, 2009. Wife of John D. Hostetler, she was born in the Ukraine on July 23, 1924.

Her family and she immigrated to Manitoba, Canada in 1925. Following WWII, she worked for Mennonite Central Committee helping to resettle immigrants and to arrange for European youth to participate in an exchange program with the United States. After meeting and marrying her husband in Germany, they returned to the USA. A charter member of the Akron Mennonite Church,

Survived by her husband and son, Robert J. Hostetler, husband of Lisa Wiebe Hostetler and her three grandchildren, Zachary, Lauren, and Jenna of Garnet Valley, PA. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard D. Hostetler, husband of Lori Roberts Hostetler of Lancaster, PA.

Hostetter, Esther M. Weaver
, 89, of Lititz, entered into rest at Fairmount Homes Inc., Ephrata on Thursday, October 29, 2009.

She was born in East Earl Township, a daughter of the late Henry M. and Martha Martin Weaver.

She was the widow of Samuel N. Hostetter who died March 29, 1994.

She was a member of White Oak Mennonite Church, Eastern Conference, Manheim, had worked in the canning department of R. W. Sauder of Lititz and was a homemaker.

Surviving are her children, Earl W., husband of Lois (Burkholder) Hostetter of Lititz, and Arlene, wife of Clyde Sauder of Lititz; 5 grandchildren, 25 great
grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; brothers, Ivan M., husband of Emma Burkholder Good Weaver of Ephrata, and Irvin M., husband of Becky Weaver of Coatesville; and sisters, Anna Mary M., wife of Ivan Sensenig of Ephrata, Edna M., wife of Luke Weaver of Elizabethtown, Eva M., wife of Martin Nolt of Peach Bottom, Alta M., wife of Donald Hollinger of Lititz, and Minerva M., wife of Elmer Nolt of Talmage.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Hostetter, and brothers, Frank and Clarence Weaver.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 P.M., Sunday, November 1st, at Wheat Ridge Chapel at Fairmount Homes, 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata and immediately following the service on Monday at the church. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Monday, November 2, 2009, at the White Oak Mennonite Church, Newport Road, Manheim. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Housman, J. Harold
, 81, of Landis Homes, Lititz, PA died April 25, 2009 at the same place from Parkinson's Disease.  He was born February 19, 1928 at Baltimore, MD to Ricardo L. and Anna Mae (Stehman) Housman.  On June 21, 1952 he was married to Miriam Miller.

Surviving are a son, John Pierre Housman, wife Colette; and two daughters, Ina Sue Fox, husband Alan; and Heidi Jean Oberholtzer, husband David; two sisters, Lois, wife of D.W. "Bill" Buckwalter; and Mary Jane Peffley; and a sister-in-law, Alice Housman.

A brother, James S. Housman preceded him in death.

Dr. Housman spent many years in Africa with Eastern Mennonite Missions, serving at Shirati Hospital, Lake Victoria, Tanzania and treating leprosy and teaching in the nursing school. He performed eye surgery and taught eye surgery in Somalia. He served two years at Deder Hospital in Ethiopia. He was a "flying Doctor" serving 19 clinics twice a month in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. He returned to West Africa from 1994-1996 and taught cataract surgery and general opthamology to African physicians at the Eye Hospital in Kano, Nigeria.

Memorial services were held April 29, 2009 at East Petersburg Mennonite Church, East Petersburg, PA with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Howe, Milton G.
55, of Stevens, PA died July 6, 2009, (auto accident). He was born in Glenmore, to Milton B and Marie Beachy Howe.  He was married to Shirley Kline Howe for 26 yrs. He was a 1971 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School, was inducted into the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame for fast pitch softball and was an avid golfer, and former Little League baseball coach.  

Survied by his wife, Mother and children, Bradley C., fiance of Lindsey Dukeman, and Mark C. and Abbey R. Howe, all at Home; brother and sisters: Warren J. (Beverly) Howe, Honey Brook,PA; Norma (Tom) Zook, Belleville, PA; Janet (Harry) Swavely, Pottstown, PA; Diane (Jack) Pechart, Goodville, PA; Esther (Arnold) Petersheim, Elverson, PA and Suzanna (David) Snader, Fredericksburg, PA; and sister-in-law Mary Howe, Parksburg, PA.

He was predeceased by his brother, Lamar Howe. Funeral service was July 11, 2009 at Rockville Mennonite Church, Honey Brook, PA. Burial was in Caernarvon Cemetery, Morgantown, PA

Huber, B. Landis
, 91, Landis Homes, Lititz, PA died January 14, 2009 at Hospice of Lancaster Co., Mount Joy, PA. He was born in Elizabeth Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Landis and Ellen Brubaker Huber. He was married to Anna Weaver Huber for 67 years.

He was a member of Hammer Creek Mennonite Church.

Surviving are his wife and 2 daughters, Joyce Huber, Hesston, KS, Norma (James) Strite, East Petersburg, PA; 2 grandchildren, David (Lisa Croft) Strite, Rebecca Strite, and 2 great grandchildren, Matthew and Emily. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Lizzie Kreider, Elva Wenger, Ada Weaver, and 3 brothers, Ira Huber, Willis Huber, and Elmer Huber.

Life Celebration Service was January 17, 2009 at the Hammer Creek Mennonite Church. Interment in the Hammer Creek Mennonite Church Cemetery, Lititz, PA.

Huntsberger, Ruth A. Wenger
, 95, of Orrville, Ohio died there on March 22, 2009.  She was born June 29, 1913 at Dalton, Wayne County, Ohio to Samuel and Emma (Rudy) Wenger.  On June 30, 1930 at Wheeling, West Virginia she was married to John H. Huntsberger.

Surviving are two sons, Donovan J. (Gladys) Huntsberger, and Maurice (Dora Lee) Huntsberger, one daughter, Doris F. Zaugg, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, a sister, Esther Steiner, and two half-brothers, Leroy (Ida) Wenger, and Sam (Mary Jane) Wenger.

Two brothers, Willis Wenger, and Ward Wenger, and a sister, Wilma Malcolm preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and farmer on her family farm, and a lifelong member of Orrville Mennonite Church.

A graveside service was held March 24, 2009 at Martins Mennonite Cemetery, Orrville, Wayne County, Ohio with Auble Funeral Home assisting.
