Harrisonburg Health and Rehab where she was a resident. Ms. Berkshire
was born on January 5, 1921, in Masontown, PA to Ralph and Emma Crowe
Berkshire.
She was a life long member of the Mennonite Church, serving as a Sunday
and Bible School teacher to many youth. She also worked as a nurse's
aide hospitals and convalescent homes in Chambersburg, Pa., Milford,
Del., Wauseon, Oh. and Harrisonburg. She retired from the housekeeping
department of Eastern Mennonite University. She was an active resident
of Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community and attended Morning View
Mennonite Church.
Surviving is a brother, Glen Berkshire and wife Zona of Harrisonburg,
VA. She was preceded in death by sisters, Grethel and husband
Lewis Campbell, Hazel and husband Walter Campbell, Wendel and wife
Vivian Stewart, Ferne and husband Charles Shank.

Betty was born Nov. 23, 1924, in Goshen, a daughter of Earl and Bertha Kauffman Garber. She married John Eldon Christophel on April 4, 1947. He passed away on Aug. 27, 1952. On Jan. 13, 1961, she married H. Robert Betzelberger. He passed away on Jan. 9, 2008.
Surviving are four children, Loren (Trish) Christophel of Martinsburg W.Va., Sheila (Wayne) Cobb of Delavan, Kathy (Mark) Smith of Springfield and Bob (Vera) Betzelberger of Delavan; eight grandchildren; one sister, Donnabelle (Claire) Hoover; and four brothers, Maurice Garber, Bob (Olean) Garber, Lamar (Delores) Garber and Marion (Flo) Garber.
She was a nurse at Lincoln Hospital.
She was a member of Hopedale Mennonite Church and a former member of its Mennonite Women, and was a member of Tazewell County Home Extension.
A family memorial service and burial will take place in Goshen, where her nephew, Craig Garber, will officiate.

She graduated from the Iowa Mennonite School in 1957 and the Kansas
City Business College in 1958. She worked as a librarian at the Eugene
Christian School for more than 35 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Jill Martin of Lebanon; a son, Jon of
Bend; and eight grandchildren.

worked for Patterson Dental Supply from 1995 to 2003, and in earlier
years had been employed as a seamstress for New Holland Lingerie and
Singing Needles Sewing Factories. She loved spending time with her
grandchildren and was an avid Phillies fan. Her other hobbies include
knitting, quilting, crocheting, cross stitching, and puzzles.
Surviving are her children, Ella (Kevin) Clare, of Pequea, Lydia
Blessing, and Glen Blessing, both of Lancaster; 2 grandchildren, Kylee
and Ethan Clare; 6 brothers, Harvey (Alice) Brubacher of Ephrata,

from EMC, Harrisburg, VA. She taught many years in both public and
private schools in Ohio and Florida.

Sally (Bob) Tedmarsh of Illisnois; a step daughter-in-law, Virginia
Boley; two brothers, Atlee Miller and Albert Miller both of

Ryan was a member of Hammer Creek Mennonite Church and attended
Lancaster County Bible Church. An electrician, he had worked for the
past 3 1/2 years at Zeiset Equipment LLC in Manheim. Ryan was a
graduate of Manheim Central High School, Class of 2005. He loved family
gatherings, friends, fishing, playing video games and lived life to the
fullest.
In addition to his parents, Ryan is survived by his brother, Richard A.
Boll of Lancaster; his paternal grandparents, J. Richard and Esther
(Longenecker) Boll of Manheim; his maternal grandmother, Sarah S.
(Wenger) Stauffer of Myerstown; his paternal great-grandmother, Ruth
(Ebersole) Boll of Lancaster; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and
friends.
Ryan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Phares B.
Stauffer.

active in the sewing circle. She volunteered at the Mount Joy Re-Uzit
Shop and Pleasant View Retirement Community. Alta enjoyed quilting,

died July 22, 1992.

Bontrager, Marie Mishler, 88, of Goshen, died March 30, 2010, at
her home. She was born December 23, 1921, in Shipshewana, IN to
George and Celstia (Miller) Mishler. On March 12, 1955, she
married Leroy Bontrager in Shipshewana. He died February 5, 2005.
Mrs. Bontrager is survived by a son, Dennis L. (Susan) Bontrager, and
two daughters, Janet (Steve) Lantz and Jane (Mike) Bontrager, all of
Goshen; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Wilbur (Ellen) Mishler of
Shipshewana.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Mishler.
A member of the Clinton Brick Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN.
Funeral service was April 2, 2010, at Shore Mennonite Church, Pastors
Ron Guengerich and Ron Kennel will officiate. Burial was in Shore
Mennonite Cemetery, Shipshewana, IN.

74, of Wolcottville, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Parkview Hospital
in Fort Wayne.
She was born on June 27, 1936, in LaGrange County to the late Samuel
and Susan (Miller) Bontrager. On March 19, 1959, she married Levi
Bontrager. He survives.
Also surviving are stepmother Miriam Bontrager of Wolcottville;
brothers Ervin (Ida Mae) and Orva (Wilma) Bontrager, both of
Shipshewana, and Samuel (Fannie Mae) Bontrager Jr. of Wolcottville;
stepsisters Lillie (Ervin Ray) Hochstetler of Shipshewana, Louise
(Clayton) Lambright of LaGrange, Barbara (David) Hostetler of
Millersburg, Laura (Richard) Slabach of Shipshewana and Lena (Devon)
Miller of Millersburg; and stepbrothers Floyd (Irene) Barkman of
Goshen, Levi (LeAnna) Barkman of Millersburg and Pete (Mary) Barkman of

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Harley Bender

Bontrager, 94, of Due West, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at
her home.
She was born in Limon, Colo., to the late Christian M. and Elizabeth
Miller Troyer. She was the widow of Raymond H. Bontrager.
Surviving are her sons Lester (LaVeda) Bontrager of Wakarusa, Ind.,
Floyd (Nancy) Bontrager of New Paris, Ind., and Kenneth (Mildred)
Bontrager of Middlebury, Ind.; daughter Verna B. (Harold) Overholt of
Due West; brother Cephus Troyer (Jean) of Goshen, Ind.; sister, Wilma
(Henry) Hershberger of Goshen; sister-in-law, Orpha Troyer of Goshen;
and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Griner
Mennonite Church. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the

Willis R. Bontrager, 60, of
Sullivan passed away at 4:26 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at St.
Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
A funeral service with Rev. Howard Kuhns officiating was Monday morning
at the Otto Center in rural Arthur. Burial was in Pleasant View Church
Cemetery in rural Arcola. Visitation was held Saturday and Sunday at
Otto Center. Edwards Funeral Home, Arcola, assisted the family with
arrangements.
Mr. Bontrager was born January 24, 1950, in Tuscola. He was the son of
Raymond C. and Ella A. (Miller) Bontrager. He married Esther Byler on
June 12, 1971, in Dover, Delaware. She survives.
Also surviving are five children, Melody Schrock and husband Clifford
of Harrisonville, Pennsylvania, Matthew Bontrager and wife Lacry of
Suceava, Romania, Amber Yoder and husband Melvin of Harrison, Arkansas,
and Aaron Bontrager and Andrew Bontrager, both at home; seven
grandchildren, Hannah, Alex, Alisa, and Simona Bontrager, Serena and
Hadassah Schrock, and Kayla Yoder; his parents, Raymond and Ella
Bontrager of Sullivan; two brothers, Ernest Bontrager of Arthur and
Kenneth Bontrager and wife Goldie of Sullivan; and three sisters, Marie
Kuhns and husband Dan of Arthur, Ruth Kuhns and husband Gary of
Tuscola, and Judy Herschberger and husband Darrell of Tuscola.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Mr. Bontrager committed his life to Christ as a young man. That
commitment became the foundation and theme upon which he built his life
and ministry.
He graduated from Arthur High School in 1968. His education also
included many life experiences and grew through asking many questions.
In 1969, Mr. Bontrager joined the Sunnyside service unit in Sarasota,
Florida, where he met Esther Byler. They were married on June 12, 1971
in Dover, Delaware. They established their home in Sullivan. As the
years passed, God blessed them with five children whom he treasured.
He worked with his father and brother on the farm, eventually taking
over the family farm. His testimony among the farming community was
appreciated by many. He continued to enjoy growing corn, soybeans, and
hay and processing compost until his passing.
He was ordained as a minister of the Pleasant View Church in Arcola on
October 25, 1981. He loved the Lord and His church and was active in
the ministry of the Gospel until the Lord called him home. He also
served on the Missions Interest Committee serving the larger Beachy
community.
As his children entered school, Mr. Bontrager became actively involved
as well. He served on the board of Arthur Mennonite School and later
was instrumental in opening the Pleasant View School. There he served
as principal for many years. He loved his students and had no greater
joy than to know that "his children" walked in truth.
In 1996, he laid aside his farming, church, and school responsibilities
to take his family to Romania. They served there for three years with
the Teaching Ministries Program of Christian Aid Ministries.
While there Mr. Bontrager had his first heart attack that weakened his
heart. In 2009, he had triple-bypass surgery and was actively engaged
with heart rehab.
On March 25, 2010, Mr. Bontrager was at home sitting at the dining room
table. The telephone rang and he said, "Hello." He then experienced a
heart attack and answered another call - from Home!
"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always
abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your
labour is not in vain in the Lord" (I Co. 15:58). He taught us
this verse by his example.

2010, at his home from a short illness.
He was born Sept. 15, 1944, in Goshen to Melvin and Amanda Miller
Borkholder. He married Laura Mae Lehman on Sept. 15, 1966. She survives.
He was a member of Fairview Amish Mennonite Church and retired from
Fairmont Homes in Nappanee.
Surviving along with his wife are daughters Loretta Yoder, Edith
Slabaugh and Sharon Miller; sons Lavon, Olen and Leon Borkholder; 30
grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers Perry, Oba, Melvin and
Larry Borkholder; and sisters Ada Miller, Ann Miller, Katie
Hochstetler, Clara Miller and Mary Borkholder.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Mount Tabor Fellowship Hall.

Bowman, Lydia S. Stauffer, 97, of Ephrata, PA, formerly of East
Earl, PA died February 28, 2010 at Fairmount Homes. She was born in
Snyder Co., PA to Eli S. and Mary (Brubacher) Stauffer.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Stauffer in
1936 and her second husband, Henry G. Bowman in 1964.
Lydia was the oldest member of Weaverland Mennonite Church where she
had served as a Sunday School teacher and was involved in the sewing
circle and small prayer cell group. She also did sewing at home,
crocheting and needlework, and helped her oldest sister's family.
Survived by her three daughters: Ruth married to James Auker, Ephrata,
PA; Dorothy married to Lester Martin, Denver, PA and Anna Stauffer,
East Earl, PA; two step-sons: Henry S. married to Ruth Bowman, Lititz,
PA and Clayton married to Mabel Bowman, Lancaster, PA; eight
grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren;
a number of step-grandchildren; two sisters: Mary married to Horace
Stauffer, and Catherine Stauffer, all of Ephrata, PA; and two brothers:
Eli married to Ruth Stauffer, Narvon, PA and Aaron Stauffer, Ephrata,
PA.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, three granddaughters, three
brothers, three sisters, four step-sons and a step-daughter.

with Bishop C. Kenneth Martin and Pastors Leon Hurst and Ray Auker

Bowman, Paul K., 94, of Lancaster, PA formerly of Willow Street,
PA died March 30, 2010 at the Mennonite Home. He was born July 26,
1915, in Caernarvon Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Henry L. and Lizzie W.
(Kreider) Bowman. He was married to the late Mary H. (Thomas) Bowman
(died in 1973) and the late Stella H. (Shenk) Bowman (died in 1991).
He was a member of the New Danville Mennonite Church where he served as
a Deacon for 23 years. Paul was a farmer in Pequea Twp. for 37 years
and had worked at the Mennonite Home for 20 years.
Survived by four children, Robert T. Bowman married to Thelma
(Denlinger), Kenneth T. Bowman married to Mary C. (Garber), Ruth A.
married to J. Nevin Martin, Mary A. married to Ben Brown; one
daughter-in-law, Linda (Campbell) Bowman; four stepchildren, Calvin E.
Shenk, L. Dale Shenk, Doris A. Mohler and Norma J. Watterman; 12
grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 26
step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, E. Thomas Bowman, and 9 siblings.

Jim N. Boyts died Saturday
(June 12, 2010) in his sleep at home in Hesston from complications
related to leukemia.
Jim was born on Oct. 16, 1933, in Harper to Earl Boyts and Marie Barber
Boyts.
Jim was a 1952 graduate of Hesston Academy, where he met his wife, Anna
Belle Stolzfus. They married on Aug. 8, 1952.
Jim entered the manufactured housing industry and worked most of his
career for Skyline Corp. in Elkhart, Ind., and Arkansas City. In
recognition of his service to, and impact on, the industry, he will be
inducted into the Manufactured Housing Hall of Fame in Elkhart on Aug.
2.
In the early 1970s, Jim took a leave of absence from Skyline to work as
director of development for Hesston College in Hesston. After
retirement, he remained very active in his community in Indiana, as
well as Hesston. His passion for personal connection, education, peace
and justice issues continues to inspire many of the lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Belle Stolzfus Boyts of Hesston; four
children, Pamela Gerber and husband Jerry of Harper, Randal Boyts and
wife Teresa of Fort Worth, Texas, Annette Brant and husband Steve of
Boulder, Colo., and Diana Young and husband Ray of Overland Park; 14
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Harold Boyts and
wife Bernita of Overland Park, and Phillip Boyts and wife Rosemary of
Garden City.
A celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Hesston Mennonite
Church.

He was the husband of the late Mildred (Benner) Brackbill, who died in

Weitzel Weaver. Ethel was married for 44 years to Harry K. Brandt who

Lititz, PA; M. David Brandt and E. Daniel Brandt both of Greentown, PA;
a daughter, Evelyn M. wife of Kenneth A. Bucher of Manheim, PA;
fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great grandchildren. Also

Breneman, Clifford W., 88, of Mt. Hope Nazarene Home, Manheim,
PA died March 3, 2010 at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, PA. He
was born in Manor Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Christian E. and Lizzie
Witmer Breneman. He and his wife, Jean Wolgemuth Breneman, celebrated
61 years of marriage in May of 2009.
A lifelong member of Masonville Mennonite Church, Washington Boro, PA,
Clifford served as trustee and treasurer and as Sunday School
Superintendent. Most recently, he attended Landisville Mennonite
Church, Landisville, PA. Clifford served in the Civilian Public Service
during World War II, where he worked on projects in Iowa and Virginia,
and was also active with Mennonite Disaster Service projects, the
lengthiest being in Mississippi where he helped to rebuild burned-out
churches.
Survived by his wife, Jean and children, Janet M. Breneman, Lancaster,
PA; Melvin R., husband of Doris Reist Breneman, Lancaster, PA;
Lois Mae, wife of David Hege, LaFarge, WI; Kenneth L., husband of
Jeanie Kreider Breneman, Elizabethtown, PA and J. Larry, husband of
Sandra Eby Breneman, Washington Boro, PA; fourteen grand children and
ten great grandchildren.
Four sisters, Grace Nolt, and Miriam, Ruth, and Irene Breneman, and six
brothers, Joseph, Paul, Martin, Eli, Roy, and Amos Breneman preceded
him in death.
Funeral service was March 8, 2010 at Landisville Mennonite Church,

Breneman, Miriam H. Hostetter, 93, died March 4, 2010 at York
Hospital, York, PA. She was born on February 12, 1917, in Manor Twp.,
Lancaster Co., PA, to Christian and Stella (Mowrer) Hostetter. She was
the wife of the late Paul W. Breneman, who died on March 19, 2001. She
was a member of Stony Brook Mennonite Church, York, PA.
Survived by three sons Richard H. Breneman and his wife Jewell of
Greencastle, PA; John H. Breneman and his wife Lois of Roanoke, VA,
Arthur H. Breneman and his wife Elaine of Mechanicsburg, PA; two
daughters Betty B. Bentzel and her husband Paul York, PA; and Esther B.
Keeports and her husband Larry of Colorado Springs, CO. Fourteen
grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, one sister Elizabeth Nissley
of Manheim, PA; two brothers Harvey and Harold Hostetter both of
Lititz, PA.
She was preceded in death by three sisters Mary Lefever, Dora Heisey,
and Esther Myer.
Funeral service was March 6, 2010 at Stony Brook Mennonite Church, with
James Heindel and Carlton Stambaugh officiating. Burial will be in
Stony Brook Mennonite Cemetery, York, PA.

Breneman, Ruth C. Wenger, 91, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of
Elizabethtown, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 28, 2010
at her home. Her husband of 52 years, Roy W. Breneman, preceded her in
death in 1996.
Born on April 6, 1919 in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the
late Phares S. and Nora (Cassel) Wenger.
She was a member of Elizabethtown Mennonite Church, Elizabethtown. Ruth
was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, sister and will be
greatly missed by her family.
Surviving are four children, Phares W. married to Judy (Enck) Breneman,
of Millersville, Nancy B. married to J. David Yoder, of Sarasota,
Douglas W. married to Darlene (Enck) Breneman, of Elizabethtown and
Marlane B. married to Dean L. Martin, of Chambersburg; 10
grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and one sister, Edna Lutz, of
Mount Joy. She was preceded in death by a son, Leroy and siblings,
Eleanor Myers, Pauline Franck, Betty Charles, John Wenger and Phares
Wenger.
Ruth's Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the
Elizabethtown Mennonite Church, 300 S. Spruce Street, Elizabethtown, PA
17022 on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 7PM. There will be a visitation
with the family on Thursday between 6 and 7PM at the church. Private
traditional casket burial will be in the Masonville Mennonite Cemetery,

Grace Brenneman, 96,
died Saturday evening at the home of her daughter in Goshen.
She was born on April 12, 1913, near Archbold, Ohio, to Simon J. and
Emma (Kutzli) Short. She was the second of five children and was 10
years old when her mother died. Her father then married Elsie Nofzinger
and they had six children.
Grace married Edwin Brenneman on June 6, 1943, and they lived together
on their farm near Elida, Ohio, until his death in 1983. She remained
on the farm until 2001 when she moved to Goshen.
She attended Bowling Green State University, where she received her
teaching certificate. She taught for 12 years prior to her marriage,
first in one-room schools and then in Archbold where she taught fifth
grade.
She was a member of Salem Mennonite Church, Elida, and after moving to
Goshen, she attended Faith Mennonite Church.
She was active in many aspects of the church including making many
blankets, hats and school kit bags for relief.
She is survived by her son, Allen (Sheryl) Brenneman and daughter
Margaret (Timothy) Thut, both of Goshen; grandchildren Stephanie
Brenneman Ramer, Michelle Ester-bode, Tanya Brenneman Fast, Daniel
Thut, Rebecca Thut Witmer, Amy Thut and Luis Francisco; and 11
great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by sisters Ada Short, Herma Gnagey and Helen
Holsopple and brothers Walter (Shirley) Short, Herbert (Arlene) Short
and Roger (Doris) Short. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Art
and Harold, and two sisters, Bessie Emch and Doris Ebersole.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Salem Mennonite Church,
Elida, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in
Salem Cemetery. A memorial service in Goshen will take place at a later
date.
Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen, is assisting the
family with local arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Mennonite Central Committee.

Brenneman, Harold H., 91, of Ephrata, PA died September 2, 2010.
He was born near Kalona, Iowa, November 29, 1918, to Irwin B. and
Mattie (Miller) Brenneman. He was married to Olive (Troyer) Brenneman
in 1943. He was a member of the Denver, PA Congregation of the Eastern
Pennsylvania Mennonite Church. He was ordained to the Ministry in 1942,
and served in the Conservative Mennonite Churches for more than 60
years.
Surviving is his wife Olive and daughter, Lucy Ann (Mrs. Ottis Conley)
of Crockett, Kentucky; and son, Keith Alan Brenneman of Akron, OH; ten
grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and one sister, Leona (Mrs. L.
David) Yoder of Kalona, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Edna Niles; and
one son, Lon David Brenneman.
Funeral service was September 7, 2010 at the Denver Mennonite Church,
Interment in the Denver Mennonite cemetery, Denver, PA.

Brenneman, Lois Ellen Hege, age 84, of Lancaster, PA, died May
23, 2010 at her home. She was born March 22, 1926 in Washington County,
MD, to Jonas E. and Elizabeth (Baer) Hege. On June 10, 1951, Lois
married John K. Brenneman.
Survived by her husband, John and two chosen daughters, Miriam H. Groff
of Manheim, PA and Debra S. Kohl of Minersville, PA. Also by three
sisters:
Barbara, wife of Benjamin Risser, Dorothy, wife of Marvin Groff and
Martha, wife of Paul Hossler; two brothers, Nathan B., husband of
Arlene Hege, and David B., husband of Arlene Hege. There are six
grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren
One granddaughter, Tamara Lennon, preceded her in death in 1976.
She was a member of Life Mennonite Fellowship Church, West Willow, PA,
and she was a former member of Laurel Street Mennonite Church,
Lancaster, PA and East Hanover Mennonite Church, Palmyra, PA.
Funeral service was May 28, 2010 at the New Danville Mennonite Church,
103 Marticville Rd. (PA Route 324), Lancaster, PA, with Pastors Mark
Schlabach, Doug Fuhrman and Tim Beachy officiating. Viewings will be
6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening from the church, and from 9:00 a.m.
until the time of service on Friday. Interment was in New
Danville Mennonite cemetery,Lancaster, PA.

Brenneman, Janice Louise Ridgway, 61, of Gainesville, Florida
died April 3, 2010 at the same place from ALS disease. She
was born December 15, 1948 at Fort Lauderdale, Florida to William and
Louise Ridgway. On November 26,1971 at Atlanta, Georgia she was
married to Fred P. Brenneman, who was born October 16, 1947 and
survives.
Surviving are two sons, Jacob Brenneman and Daniel Brenneman (Carlee),
one grandchild, and a sister, Judy Hollifield.
Janice was a founding member of Emmanuel Mennonite Church

Brenneman, Janice Louise Ridgway
Janice Louise Brenneman passed away after a gallant battle with ALS on
April 3rd, 2010 at her home in Gainesville. Janice was born December
15th, 1948 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Louise B. and William P.
Ridgway. She, along with her parents moved to Gainesville in 1949 in
order for her father to attend the University of Florida, where they
lived in the Flavets. She graduated from Gainesville High School in
1966 and Wesleyan College in 1971 with a bachelor in church music.
She married Fredrick J. Brenneman in 1971 in Atlanta, Georgia, where
they lived for a few years before they moved to Evanston, IL., before
moving back to Gainesville in 1978. She was a piano teacher, church
musician, and a founding member of Emmanuel Mennonite Church. She
volunteered in many organizations particularly the schools where her
sons attended and more recently at Arbor House. She was a sustaining
member of Junior League of Gainesville where she was part of the
children's theater group and member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter
FH.
She is survived by her husband Fred of 38 years, sons Jacob W. and
Daniel P. (Carlee) Brenneman, grandson Jeremiah and sister Judy R.
Hollifield.
Janice loved God, her family, Church, friends, music, and gardening.

He was born in Elida, OH December 17, 1915 to Noah H. and Sallie S.
(Heatwole) Brenneman. On May 28, 1942 he married Thelma L.
Gilnett in Scottdale, Pennsylvania. She died March 5, 1996.
He was a member of the Mennonite Church of Warsaw, Warsaw, IN.
Surviving are his three daughters, Janet (Melvin) Wingrove, Leicester,
North Carolina, Judith (Jerard) Garifine, Long Beach, New Jersey, and
Joyce (Bill) LeMasters, Lakeland, Florida; three sons, Joseph
Brenneman , Larwill, Indiana, James Brenneman, Warsaw, Indiana,
and John Brenneman, Winona Lake, Indiana; 16 grandchildren, and three
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by a sister, Ada Criswell; and three brothers, Earl L.,
Clarence W., and Horance Q. Brenneman.
The family will receive friends 1:30 to 3:30 and 5:00 to 6:15 p.m., on
Monday, April 19, at The Meetinghouse at Greencroft, Goshen where a
service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Brilhart, Earle Rodney, 98, of Goshen, IN died April 19, 2010 at
the same place. He was born June 24, 1911 at Scottdale, PA to C.
A. and Cora (Loucks) Brilhart. On May 15, 1949 he was married to
Marnetta Yake, who was born July 4, 1923 and survives.
Surviving are children, Theodore Brilhart, Kathleen (Bruce Repko)
Brilhart, and Daniel (Terri Enns) Brilhart, and a sister, Mildred
(Truman) Showalter.
Earle was born in Scottdale, Pa., and, as an adult, operated the family
hardware business there and took special care of his brothers and
sisters. He and Marnetta moved to the Greencroft Retirement
Center in November 2004.

Allen D. Brooks,
72, of Elkhart, died in his home at 6:18 p.m. Tuesday (July 27, 2010)
of a pulmonary embolism.
He was born May 9, 1938, to Harold A. and Mae (Heistand) Brooks in
Peoria, Ill. On Aug. 15, 1964, he married Sharon K. (Nunemaker) Brooks.
She survives.
Also surviving are children David Brooks of Goshen, Cheryl (Robert
Sturgill) Wise of Goshen and Michael (Karen) Brooks of West Lafayette;
grandchildren Tara Wise, Connor, Jeremy and Ryan Brooks; sister Carolyn
(Don) Blosser of Goshen; brother Ronald Brooks of Goshen; and
stepsisters Fyrne (Ray) Lantz of Middlebury and Twila (Peter) Harder of
Canada.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother Richard Brooks.
Allen was a 1956 graduate of Roanoke High School, Illinois, and a 1964
graduate of Goshen College. He served two years in PAX service in
Greece under M.C.C. from 1960 to 1962. As a bricklayer, he worked in
construction for 40 years. At Holdeman Mennonite Church, where he was a
member, he was a Sunday school teacher for the come and share class.
His hobbies were collecting antiques, going to auctions, restoring old
toys and reading.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (July 30, 2010)
at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St.,
Wakarusa, and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday (July 31, 2010) at Holdeman
Mennonite Church, 65723 C.R. 1, Wakarusa, where the service will be at
10 a.m. Pastors Danny Jones and BJ Leichty, both of Holdeman Mennonite
Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Olive (East) Cemetery.

Brown, Malinda Rose Lingenfelder, 92, of Newton, Harvey County,
Kansas died March 7, 2010 at the same place from natural causes.
She was born June 15, 1917 at Hanston, Kansas. On June 14,
1941 at Hanston, Kansas she was married to Max Regier, who died
February 23, 1987. After Max's death Malinda married Lelus Brown
May 9, 1990. Lelus died May 5, 1993.
Malinda Rose Lingenfelder Regier Brown, affectionately called Linda or
Nana, was born June 15, 1917 in Hanston, Kansas. She grew up on a farm,
and drove a horse and buggy to school with her younger sister, Berniece.
Linda loved art even as a young child and she created and fostered that
love in her children and others. She began her art career as a
teenager, assisting in her Uncle John Lingenfelder's photography
studio, providing the tinted color on portraits. Linda graduated from
Bethel College with a teaching certificate and began her teaching
career in a one room schoolhouse in Macksville, KS. She and Max Regier
met during college and were married in 1941. In the following years
they lived in Newton and Linda's time was spent lovingly raising 7
children and volunteering in their activities. She was a Brownie, Girl
Scout, and Cub Scout leader and served 2 terms as McKinley School PTA
President. The Regier home was
always decorated with Linda's art and artistic touch, the smell of
cookies in the oven, a menagerie of animals, and a gang of neighborhood
kids. In later years the family moved to Wichita and Linda worked
during those years in retail clothing and jewelry stores.
She volunteered at the Wichita Art Museum and in a program in Wichita
teaching art and creating sculpture in the schools. In later years,
back in Newton Linda volunteered with the Newton Art Association and
The Carriage Factory Gallery and was a long-standing member of the
Junior Themian Club. She served Bethel College Mennonite Church in
various capacities such as Co-Chair of the Circle One of the Women's
Fellowship groups, Co-chair of the Funeral Serving Committee, and
hostess in her home for group of church members for meals. Linda was
chosen as a 2003 Woman of the Year in the church and religion category.
Following Max's
death, Linda remarried Lelus Brown and welcomed more children and
grandchildren into the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Susanna,
step-mother, Helen, sister Berniece, husbands Max Regier and Lelus
Brown, and son Steven Brent Regier.
Survivors include her children Rosalind Scudder (Stan), Newton;
Max Stewart Regier (Nellie), Newton; Mary Regier, (Newton); Robert
Regier (Anita), Derby; Mark Regier (Penny), (Sedgwick); and Melissa
Keenan (Tom), Newton. She is also survived by Bill Brown, Anita
Sadowsky, Martin Brown and their families. She is survived by 24
Grandchildren, 22 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
The family expresses gratitude to the staff of Presbyterian Manor and
Hospice Care of Kansas for their assistance in caring for our lovely
Mom and Nana. She will be greatly missed, but we know she is in heaven
and probably already offering decorating tips and some of her uniquely
special recipes.

Church, North Newton, Kansas with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton,

1998.

Brubacher, Curtis, 93, of St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada died
November 24, 2010 at the same place. He was born July 6, 1917 at
Heidelberg, ON to Menno and Almeta (Good) Brubacher. On June 13,

Brubaker, Edna M. Sauder, 88, of Denver, PA entered into rest on
Thursday, November 11, 2010 at home. She was born in East Earl
Township, the daughter of the late Martin and Lizzie M. (Martin)
Sauder. She was married to Amos Brubaker who passed away in 1979 and a
member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law,
Lucy (Leinbach) Brubaker (Martin of KY). Also several grandchildren;
three brothers: John Sauder, Martin Sauder, Noah Sauder; and three
sisters: Lizzie Sensenig, Eva Brubaker, Lena Newswanger.
Surviving are five sons: Aaron married to Mary (Zimmerman) Brubaker,
Mt. Herman, KY; Daniel married to Bertha (Shirk) Brubaker and Martin
married to Martha (Martin) Brubaker, both of Elkton, KY; David married
to Mary (Horning) Brubaker and Samuel married to Frances (Martin)
Brubaker, both of Denver, PA. Also four daughters: Lucy Brubaker, with
whom she resided; Ada married to Mahlon Horning and Mabel married to
Charles Burkholder, both of Penn Yan, NY; Edna married to Leon Martin,
Ephrata; 66 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren; five brothers:
Adam married to Lena (Reiff) Sauder, Penn Yan, NY; Eli of Ephrata;
Mahlon married to Emma (Horning) Sauder, East Earl; Amos married to
Katie (Zimmerman) Sauder, Ephrata; a sister Anna Zimmerman, East Earl
and a sister-in-law Ruth Sauder, East Earl.
A viewing will be held from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM on Sunday, November 14
at the late residence, 338 Panorama Dr., Denver, PA. The funeral will
be held on Monday November 15 at 9 AM at the residence with further
services at 9:30 AM at the Bowmansville Mennonite Church with Bishop
Titus Martin officiating. Interment will be in adjoining cemetery.

Brubaker, Glenn Stauffer, 81, of Landis Homes, Lititz, died
February 12, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County surrounded by his
loving family. He was born in Rapho Township, to Levi Noll and Anna
Stauffer Brubaker. He was happily married to Arlene Snyder Brubaker for
nearly 63 years.
Glenn was an active member of Rohrerstown Mennonite Church.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene and 8 children, daughters, Carolene
Snyder Brubaker, West Chester, PA and Cathy Brubaker Miles, Middle East
and sons, Glenn S., Jr. married to Susanne Gagner, Lancaster, PA; Jeff
S. married to Joann Metzler, Strasburg, PA; Dennis S. married to Cindy

Colin and Bailey. He is also survived by two brothers, Harold

Brubaker, Howard G., 81, of Myerstown, PA, died peacefully in
his home on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. He was the husband of Eva Z.
Martin Brubaker with whom he was married to for 60 years on October 1,
2009. He was born January 4, 1929 in Jackson Township, Lebanon County a
son of the late Norman A. and Lovina Gingrich Brubaker. He was a
retired farmer and was former owner of the Brubaker's Clothing Store.
He was a member of the Mt. Zion Mennonite Church, Myerstown of the
Weaverland Conference.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Marlin husband of Irene
Brubaker and Wilmer husband of Rebecca Brubaker both of Myerstown;
daughters, Eleanor wife of
Ivan Martin and Evelyn wife of Edwin Martin both of Myerstown; 28
grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren; brothers, Leonard husband of
Miriam Brubaker, Myerstown; Irvin husband of Mabel Brubaker, Ephrata;

Mary Catherine Brubaker,
99, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at the Manor
at Penn Village, Selinsgrove, with her family by her side.
She was born in Chapman Township, Snyder County, on Feb. 15, 1911, a
daughter of the late William and Ella (Strawser) Shafer. She married
Oscar J. Brubaker on Dec. 8, 1928, and he preceded her in death on May
1, 1974.
Mary was a wonderful mother to her children and grandchildren in
addition to being a farmer's wife. She had worked at a number of
garment factories over the years. Following her retirement, she
volunteered as a Foster Grandparent at the Selinsgrove Center for 23
years. She enjoyed home canning of foods from her garden and caring for
her flowers.
She was a member of Susquehanna Mennonite Church, and her life was
dedicated to serving others and always putting others' needs before her
own.
Mary was the mother of nine children; son, Donald E. and Martha
Brubaker, of Port Trevorton, their children, Bertha Miller and husband
Glenn, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Agnes Brubaker, of Mount Pleasant
Mills, Millie Walter and husband Leroy, of Kreamer, Deborah Brubaker
and Lloyd Brubaker, of Mount Pleasant Mills; daughter, A. Roxanna and
Carson Hoover, of Selinsgrove, their children, Carson Hoover and
companion Sandra Sulouff, of Selinsgrove, Timothy Hoover and wife
Margo, of Lewisburg; son, Lester L. and Mary Brubaker, of

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Doris E. Hoover; three
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sons-in-law; three
daughters-in-law; three sisters, Ruth Heimbach, Esther Martin and Helen
Gehman; and two brothers, William Shafer and Murray Shafer.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the V.L. Seebold
Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, and from 10 to 11 a.m.
Saturday at Susquehanna Mennonite Church, 1810 McNess Road, Port
Trevorton, where the funeral will follow at 11 with her nephews, the
Rev. Albert Heimbach and the Rev. Clair Troutman, officiating.
Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

2010, at his home. Born April 19, 1922, in Delaware Twp, Juniata
Co., PA, to Hudson H. and Phoebe (Shirk) Brubaker. His wife, Alma R.
(Graybill) Brubaker, whom he married on Dec. 10, 1944, preceded him in
death on Oct. 27, 2008.
Surviving are his children, Dorothy Yoder and husband John, of Mill
Creek, PA; Dwain Brubaker and wife Peggy, of Mifflintown, PA; Kathy
Brown and husband Dave, of Greencastle, PA; Ray Brubaker and wife
Phyllis, of McAlisterville, PA; Marvin Brubaker and wife Jan, of
Harrisburg, PA; two brothers: Lester Brubaker and wife Arlene, of

Paul was a member of the Lost Creek Mennonite Church and the
Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. Funeral service was September 3, 2010, at the

Brubaker, Sherri Kaye, 40, of York, was carried to heaven by the
Lord's angels, on Monday, March 1, from the Memorial Hospital.
Born on November 21, 1969, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of
Mary (Buckwalter) and Gerald "Jerry" Brubaker, of York.
Sherri attended LIU School of Lancaster and of York.
Sherri had the gift of touching people's hearts and drawing people to
her. She was one of God's special "angels" on Earth. She loved life and
inspired others.
Sherri leaves to cherish her memory, in addition to her loving parents,
two brothers, Steven Ray Brubaker, of Tulsa, OK; Stanley Jay Brubaker,
of Loveland, CO; a paternal grandmother, Verna Ginder, of Neffsville, a
host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death
by maternal grandparents, Fannie O. (Eberly) and Jacob S. Buckwalter,
and a paternal grandfather, Lester M. Brubaker.
Friends and family may attend viewings on Friday, March 5, from 6-8
P.M. at the Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., 822 East Market St., York,
and on Saturday, March 6, from 1-2 P.M. at the Gateway Church
International, 50 Blunston Lane, York (formerly the New Wine Christian
Center). The celebration of life service will begin at 2 P.M. on
Saturday at the church. Rev. Barry Ryan will be officiating.

Brunk, Truman Henry, II, retired pastor, died October 8, 2010,
at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was born May 19, 1931, in Sibley
Children's Hospital, Washington, D.C., to Truman and Ruth (Smith)
Brunk.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth (Shenk) Brunk; his
daughter, Kathleen Brunk Isaacs (Dean) of Morrisville, N.C.; and his
son, Donald Wayne Brunk (Deb) of Souderton, Pa. He has four
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two
sisters, Evelyn Hertzler (Alvin) of Newport News, Va., and Sandra
Steiner (Nevin) of Harrisonburg, Va.; and a nephew, Steve Brydge
(Rebecca) of Harrisonburg, Va.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister,
Margaret "Peggy" Brydge.
Prior to his ordination in 1965, he loved working in his family's
orchards and building homes in the Williamsburg area. For 12 years, he
served as campus pastor at Eastern Mennonite College (now EMU). Truman
served as pastor in four locations: Akron Mennonite Church in Lancaster
County, Pa.; Blooming Glen Mennonite Church in Bucks County, Pa.;
Warwick River Mennonite Church in Newport News, Va.; and associate
pastor at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg, Va. Truman
also served as overseer for churches in Pennsylvania and Virginia. He
and Betty served side by side as interim pastors at Neffsville
Mennonite Church in Lancaster, Pa., and Landisville Mennonite Church in
Landisville, Pa.
A memorial service was October 10, 2010, at Lindale Mennonite Church in
Linville, Va., with Pastor Mark Keller officiating.

86, of New Holland, PA died September 26, 2010 at Lancaster, PA
from an esophageal obstruction. She was born August 8, 1924 at
Ephrata, PA to Abraham and Mamie (Mull) Griffith. She was married
to Nathan P. Buckwalter, who was born July 31, 1924 and died November
19, 1981.
Surviving are children, Betty Jane wife of Eugene Beard, Joanne wife of
Harold Wenger, Nathan husband of Sherry Buckwalter, and Richard husband
of Brenda Buckwalter, 7 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Buckwalter, Erlis R. "Bud", 83, died January 12, 2010 in
Hopewell, VA. He was born December 19, 1926.
Mr. Buckwalter was a member of Warwick River Mennonite Church for over
50 years before moving to the Shenandoah Valley. Bud was an artist and
fine woodworker. He was known as a steadfast Christian and family man,
and a man of quiet and thoughtful service to his church and community.
Survivors include three children, Ben Buckwalter and his wife, Amy, of
Goshen, IN, Edith Buckwalter Holsopple and her husband, Curt, of
Hopewell, VA and Laine Buckwalter of Blacksburg, VA; two sisters, Ruby
Stiefel and Leah Massolini of Louisville, OH; three grandchildren, Lena
Buckwalter, Mike Buckwalter, and Jay Holsopple; and three
great-grandchildren, Dillon Tillas, and Rebecca and Eli Holsopple.
Funeral service was January 14, 2010 at Warwick River Mennonite Church.

Ruth Buller, 89, of
Greencroft Healthcare died at 7:15 pm on Sept. 1, 2010.
She was a homemaker.
Ruth was born on July 19, 1921, in Minot, N.D., to Joseph and Stella
(Sharp) Lehman. On June 6, 1951, she married Herman O. Buller, who
passed away on June 12, 2005.
Ruth is survived by one daughter, Marcia (Allen) Glick of Glenwood,
N.M., and one son, Royce (Marian) Buller of Bentonville, Ark.; four
sisters, Mary Handrich of Grand Marais, Mich., Ethel Slabaugh of
Sturgis, Mich., Genevieve Buckwalter of Goshen and Josephine
Swartzendruber of Rocky Ford, Colo.; two brothers, Reuel and David
Lehman, both of Goshen; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place at a
later date.

Nancy A. Burkey, 69, of
Lebanon, died April 12, 2010, at her home.
Viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 15 at Huston-Jost
Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on April 16 at the Lebanon
Mennonite Church. Burial will follow in the Fairview Mennonite Cemetery.
She was born July 7, 1940, in Wayland, Iowa, the daughter of Ira and
Mildred (Wyse) Wenger.
She graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in Kalona, Iowa, in 1958. She
attended Hesston College and Kansas City General Hospital Nursing
School, where she received a registered nursing certification.
She married Galen Burkey in Wayland, Iowa, on June 9, 1962. The couple
moved to Albany, then to Lebanon in 1963.
Mrs. Burkey worked as a registered nurse at Samaritan Lebanon Community
Hospital for more than 42 years before retiring in February 2010.
She was a member of the Lebanon Mennonite Church. She sang and
played the piano and organ for the church and at assisted living homes
in the Lebanon area.
She is survived by husband Galen Burkey of Lebanon; son Steven
Burkey of Lebanon; daughter Debra Nelson of Lebanon; brother Wayne
Wenger of New Lenox, Ill.; and grandchildren James and Anna Burkey.
Her parents Ira and Mildred Wenger, brother Kenneth Wenger and sister
Jane Wenger died before she did.

Burkey, Teresa A. Eicher, 91, of Sun City, AZ died May 19, 2010
at the same place. She was born August 26, 1918 at Milford, NE to
William and Lydia Eicher. On August 26, 1936 she was married to
Perry Burkey, who is deceased.
Surviving are children, Lillian (Burkey) and Jerry Laurinec; Margaret
(Burkey) and Dell Martin; and Bonnie (Burkey) Simons, 7 grandchildren,
8 great-grandchildren, a sister, Violet Eicher Troyer; and two

Burkhalter, Ramoth Isabel Lowe, 86, of Berne, IN died August 14
2010 at Minneapolis, MN. She was born November 7, 1923 at
Ashville, NC to Oscar and Mary (Knox) Lowe. She was married to
Edward Henry Burkhalter, who was born January 16, 1919 and survives.
Surviving are children, Mary Kay and Jonathan Larson; Beth Ann and
George Taylor; John (Barbara) Burkhalter; Joyce (Mike) Flueckiger; Amy
Burkhalter (Chris Baur); and Sheryl Burkhalter (Vivek Gupta); 9
grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Oscar Lowe.
Ramoth Isabel Lowe Burkhalter was born on November 7, 1923 in
Asheville, North Carolina, the daughter of Oscar and Mary Knox
Lowe. With her brothers Reid, James, and Oscar Jr., she completed
her schooling in Asheville. She then graduated from Wheaton
College, in Wheaton, Illinois where she met Edward Burkhalter of Berne,
Indiana. They were married on August 29, 1945 in Asheville. Together
they continued their studies for an additional year at Wheaton, where
she completed a master's degree in Christian education. They then moved
to New York City where he received his master's of divinity from New
York Biblical
Seminary and she developed her deep love of education while teaching
kindergarten.
In November 1947, the couple and four-month-old daughter, Mary Kay,
left the United States aboard the Queen Mary ocean liner for India,
where they served for forty-two years. Five more children were born in
India. All six completed their education at Woodstock School in the
Himalayan foothills, where she was active in the hillside community.
They served in central India as Mennonite workers with Indian churches
and communities in Korba, Saraipali, and Jagdeeshpur, forming many deep
friendships. During her years of service, she sought to create
opportunities for young leaders through formal education, as well as
offering dignity and life skills to young women through ASHA, ('hope')
a handicraft project she helped to found.
In 1989, the couple retired to Berne, where they found avenues for
ministry and supportive bonds. Following his death in 1993, she
continued to live in Berne until she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in
2007 to be near her family and found a home at Bethany Covenant Village.
As a wise counselor, she crossed boundaries, befriending and drawing
others into community.
Memorial gifts may be made to a scholarship fund for the training of
women leaders in the Indian church or to a fund in support of South
Asian immigrant women in America. The respective organizations are: the
Mennonite Mission Network, c/o First Mennonite Church of Berne; or,
Raksha (meaning "protection" in Hindi), at raksha.org.

Burkhardt, Doneta Hershberger, 86, of Goshen, Indiana died
February 5, 2010 at Middlebury, Indiana. She was born January 13,
1924 to Freed and Nina (Horner) Hershberger. On October 5, 1942
at New Haven, Connecticut she was married to John W. Burkhardt, who
died March 14, 1999.
Surviving are children, Ronald (Patricia) Burkhardt, Gloria (Larry)

86, of Goshen, IN., formerly of Middlebury, IN died February 5, 2010 at
Greencroft Health Care Center Goshen, IN. She was born January 13, 1924
in Middlebury, IN., to Freed and Nina (Horner) Hershberger. On October
5, 1942 in New Haven, CT she married John W. Burkhardt, he died March
14, 1999.
She was a member of the former Pleasant Oaks Mennonite Church,
Middlebury, IN. Survivors include two daughters, Gloria (Larry) Ziegler
of Buford, GA, and Debra (Kenny) Thomas of Lawrenceville, GA; a son,
Ronald (Patricia) Burkhardt of Marble Falls, TX; 4 grandchildren, a
step grandson, a great granddaughter, a step great granddaughter; a
twin brother, Donald (Doris) Burkhardt of Middlebury, IN.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, a sister: Lois Buchtel,

Burkhart, John M., 88, of Lancaster, went home to be with the
Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010. He was the son of the late Abraham B.
and Mary Ann Martin Burkhart.
He worked as an electrical engineer at RCA, Lancaster and, in later
years, worked for the IU-13, especially in the audio/visual department.
An avid photographer, he enjoyed tinkering with anything electronic.
John received a presidential citation for his service as a chief petty
officer in the US Navy during WWII stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
John leaves behind his five sisters, Esther Shives, Reno, NV, Edna
Haugh, Red Lion, Ruth married to Paul Sheaffer, Betty married to Dick
Leich, both Lancaster, Martha married to Stanley Shultz, Halifax; a
brother, Amos married to Nancy Burkhart, Mountville. He was preceded in
death by a brother, Perry, and a sister, Anne Mosemann.
The funeral will be Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Furman
Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St., Leola. There will be no viewing;
however, the family will visit with friends from 1:30 - 2 p.m.
Interment: Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.

Stevens, PA died October 17, 2010 at Fairmount Homes, Ephrata, PA. She
was born in Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., PA to Rufus and Elsie (Wanner)
Wenger. Her husband, Paul H. Burkhart, died May 17, 1998. She was a

She was born Sept. 24, 1922, to Noah W. and Elizabeth (Wise) Zimmerman
and the wife of the late Eli Burkholder. She was a member of the Little
Mountain Mennonite Church Fredrickburg, PA.
Survived by one son, David Z. Burkholder and wife Lucille of Benton,
IL; three daughters: Rachel, wife of Earl Heatwole, Metter, GA; Ruth,
wife of Willis Mast, Myerstown, PA, and Rhoda, wife of Wilbur Sweigart,
Richland, PA; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four sisters:
Eva Brubaker, Myerstown, PA, Elizabeth Horst, Leola, PA, Bertha Weaver,

Burkholder, Isaac M., 78, of Maxatawny Township, died
unexpectedly October 2, 2010, in his home. He was the widower of the
late Emma N. (Hoover) Burkholder who died February 12, 2003. Born July
31, 1932 in Earl Township, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late
Paul Z. and Annie B. (Martin) Burkholder. He was a member of the
Groffdale Conference of Mennonites, attending the Center Mennonite
Church, Maxatawny Township. He was a crop farmer in Maxatawny Township
and was the founder and operator of Burkholder's Farm Market from 1965
to 1998, which his son, Amos H. Burkholder continues to operate.

Burkholder, J. Lawrence, 92, of Goshen, IN died June 24, 2010 at
the same place. He was born October 31, 1917 at Newville, PA to
Henry L. and Mary (Seitz) Burkholder. On August 20, 1939 at
Manheim, PA he was married to Harriet Lapp, who was born March 31, 1915
and died September 6, 2007.
Surviving are children, Howard Burkholder, Myrna Burkholder, and Janet
(Lauren) Friesen, 2 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and a sister,
Evelyn Kreider.
A son, Gerald Burkholder, two sisters, Mildred Hackman and Verna
Troyer, and a brother, Harold Burkholder preceded him in death.
J. Lawrence graduated from Goshen College in 1939 and from Lutheran
Seminary, Gettysburg, Pa., in 1942, at which time he was ordained by
the Mennonite Church. He received his master's degree in theology
in 1951 and his doctorate of theology degree summa cum laufe in 1958,
both from Princeton Theological Seminary.
He served as president of Goshen College from 1971 to 1984.
Current president of Goshen Collge, James E. Brenneman, said:
"Many of president Burkbolder's contributions to Goshen College are
still with us. He made this campus a more beautiful and welcoming
place by planting trees. He nurtured closer
'town-and-gown' relationships. He helped put the college on sound
financial footing. He also showed us that all
Christians-Mennonites and others--could be people of strong faith,
making a difference in the civic, business, political and institutional
establishments of the world."

Burkholder, Lloyd Heatwole, 83, a resident of Harrisonburg, died
Dec. 23, 2010, at White Birch Estates.
Mr. Burkholder was born Jan. 25, 1927, and was the son of the late
Raymond Ashby and Elizabeth Smith Burkholder. He graduated from Mount
Clinton High School and served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation
machinist for two years. He began working at Whitesel Brothers in 1948
as a mechanic and worked his way through the corporation. He served as
president of the Whitesel Brothers Corp. since 1981. He loved to greet
the customers and their families at John Deere Day each year. Mr.
Burkholder loved Paradise Mountain where he lived and after retirement
he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his children and
grandchildren.
On May 14, 1949, he married the former Frances Jean Miller who preceded
him in death on Sept. 25, 1998.
Surviving are two children, Sue Garst and husband, Fred, Bridgewater,
and Thomas L. Burkholder and wife, Terri, Harrisonburg; three sisters,
Betty Stroud-Paynter and husband, Richard, Clemmons, N.C, Nancy B. Hess
and husband, Nelson, Harrisonburg (Nancy served as an angel to Lloyd
during his life and spent many hours with him during his illness), and
Joyce Earles and husband, Calvin, Florida; one brother, Robert
Burkholder and wife, Joanne, Ruckersville; four grandchildren, Matthew
Marshall Garst and fiancée, Lora Heatwole, Daniel Lloyd Garst,

Burkholder, Melvin J., age 84, formerly of Fleetwood, PA died
April 2, 2010 at Souderton Mennonite Home, Souderton, PA. He was born
in Harrisonburg, VA to Alpheus and Mary Burkholder. He was the
husband of Mildred L. (Rosenberger) Burkholder. They would have
celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 30th.
He was a member of Hampden Street Mennonite Church, Reading, PA. He
spent summers doing volunteer mission work in Alaska and Canada.
Survived by his wife and two sons, Stephen R. Burkholder, husband of
Darleen, Mertztown, PA and Joel M. Burkholder, husband of Patti,
Shoemakersville, PA; five daughters, Sharon L. wife of David Anders,
Alburtis, PA; Linda S., wife of Leonard Weaver, Palmyra, PA; Rosemary,
wife of James of James Halterman, Carbondale, CO; Brenda G., partner of

He attended the Meadowview Mennonite Church in Hagerstown, MD.

NAPPANEE -- Ray J. Burkholder, 83, of 681 First Road, Nappanee, died at
4:10 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 24, 2010) at his home after an extended
illness.
He was born March 19, 1927, in Marshall County to Jacob M. and Lizzie
Miller Burkholder. He married Barbara S. Chupp on Oct. 27, 1955, in
Marshall County.
She survives, with two daughters, Cathy Lynn (Marvin) Hochstetler of
Nappanee and Norma Sue Burkholder of Edwardsburg, Mich.; six
grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Friends may call all day today at the family home. Funeral services
will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the David Borkholder home.

78, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 1, 2010, at his home.
He was born Jan. 22, 1932, in Preston, Ontario, Canada, to Chester and
Mary Edna (Snyder) Buschert. He married Joyce Stutzman on Dec. 28,
1954, in Milford, Neb.
Surviving with his wife are daughters Beth (Mark) Hooley of Santa Cruz,
Calif., and Jill Kennel of South Bend; and granddaughter Nadia Zaid of
Mendoza, Argentina.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers, Robert C. and
Donald Buschert.
He and his wife moved here from South Bend in April. He was a member of
Kern Road Mennonite Church and Hesston Steam Museum, Hesston. He
retiried as a civil engineer from Columbia Gas of Ohio.
He graduated from Hesston College with an associate's degree, Goshen
College with a bachelor's degree and Indiana Institute of Technology,
Fort Wayne, with a degree in civil engineering.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Koinonia
Room at College Mennonite Church, Goshen, where the funeral service
will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Revs. June Alliman Yoder and Ron
Kennel will officiate. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery, Elkhart.
Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

Ethel Buskirk, 89,
Goshen, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at Greencroft
Healthcare.
She was born July 8, 1921, in Ithaca, Mich., to William and Susan
(Seidner) Dintaman. On April 22, 1945, she married Neil Buskirk. He
died July 24, 1997.
Surviving are son Philip (Judy) Buskirk of Harrisonburg, Va.; daughters
Ann Buskirk of Goshen, Shary Baker of Portland, Mich., and Susan
(Ervin) Graber of Kendallville; sister Inez Lauber of Grants Pass,
Ore.; brothers Lester of Hubbard, Ore., Glen of Lagrange and Walter
(Clara) Dintaman of Elkhart; 14 grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was daughter Sharon
Guldner; one sister; and four brothers.
Ethel was a homemaker and a nurse's aide and attendant.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Living Water
Mennonite Church, 65215 C.R. 27, Goshen, where Friday's 2 p.m. service
will take place. Burial will be in Clinton Union Cemetery.
