WAKARUSA - Norma J. Hahn, 78, of Wakarusa, died at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen.
She was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Elkhart, to Olen Ray and Dorothy L. (Bechtel) Hartman.
She married David Hahn on Nov. 17, 1968, at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, and he died Sept. 20, 1993.
Surviving are a daughter, Rachel M. (Glen) Hoover of Williamsport; sons Joseph R. Hahn of Middlebury, John D. Hahn of Wakarusa and Steven E. (Heather) Hahn of Elkhart; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; grandson Ezra Hoover; brother Ray Hartman; and a sister, Erma Hershberger.
Norma was a 1956 graduate of Wakarusa High School and worked at Exchange State Bank, Wakarusa, from March 1956 to Dec. 31, 1968; then worked at Key Bank, Wakarusa from January 1983 until her retirement on March 30, 2001.
She was a member of Olive Mennonite Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, treasurer, and elder.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service Monday, Feb. 20, all at Olive Mennonite Church, 61081 C.R. 3, Elkhart.
Pastors Sharon and Kevin Yoder will officiate.
Burial will follow in Olive (West) Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Olive Mennonite Church for the technology fund.

Hahn, Norma J. Hartman, 78, of Wakarusa, Elkhart Co., IN died February 14, 2017 at Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN. She was born September 22, 1938 at Elkhart, IN to Olen Ray and Dorothy L.(Bechtel) Hartman. On November 17, 1968 at Goshen, IN she was married to David Hahn, who died September 20, 1993.
Surviving are children, Rachel (Glen) Hoover, Steve (Heather), Joseph, and John; 17 grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
One grandchild, a brother, Ray Hartman, and a sister, Erma Hershberger preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held February 20, 2017 at Olive Mennonite Church, Elkhart, IN, with burial in Olive West cemetery.
Hahn, Norman Good, 81, of Ephrata, formerly of East Earl, died Friday, August 18, 2017 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Born in New Holland, he was a son of the late Amos and Sarah (Good) Hahn. He would have been married 60 years on November 2 to Elizabeth M. (Hoover) Hahn.
Norman was the founder of Conestoga Wood Specialties Corp., a manufacturer of wood components for the kitchen and bath industry which was founded in 1964 in East Earl.
He was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Millard H., married to Joyce (Auker) Hahn of Vineland, NJ, Norman Lemar, married to Marion (Weaver) Hahn of East Earl, Kevin H., married to Dawn (Newswanger) Hahn of Freeburg, and Anthony H., married to Carolyn (Zimmerman) Hahn of East Earl; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters, Anna G., married to Warren W. Martin of Reinholds, Samuel G., married to Verna (Sensenig) Martin of Terre Hill, Irene S. Rutt, widow of Clarence of New Holland, and Amos G., married to Erma (Brubaker) Hahn of New Holland.
Preceding him in death is a sister, Esther G. Hahn.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 23 at 9 am at Fairmount Homes, Farmcrest Chapel with further services at 9:30 am at Weaverland Mennonite Church with the Bishop Melvin Martin and the Bishop Amos G. Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Fairmount Homes, Farmcrest Chapel. Kindly omit flowers. Haller, MaryAnne Martin, 82, of Denver, went to be with the Lord in the early morning of July 2, 2017.
MaryAnne was born on October 12, 1934 to the late Irvin and Edna Martin.
She worked for many years as a daycare teacher at Kiddie Korner Daycare and Grandview Heights. MaryAnne had a very deep relationship with her Lord and Savior. She was always a caring and loving lady towards everyone. MaryAnne loved to read, make greeting cards, going to bible study, and spending time with her great-grandson Ethan. She was a member of the East Cocalico Church of the Brethren.
MaryAnne is survived by two daughters Karen, wife of Paul Miegel, Denver, Nina Haller partner of Sue Uibel, Denver; two grandsons William "Billy" (Becky) Miegel, Zachary (Claire) Miegel; a great-grandson Ethan Miegel; a sister, Sallie, wife of Raymond Hurst and a brother Clayton "Buster" (Ella Mae) Martin.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband William Haller and a son William Corby Haller.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend services for MaryAnne at the East Cocalico Church of the Brethren, 4 Bunker Hill Road, Reamstown. A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 6 at 10am followed by her funeral service at 11am with Pastor Steve Hess officiating. Interment will take place at the Fairview Cemetery, Annex.

Halteman, Elizabeth G. Freed, 96, of Franconia Township died July 5, 2017 at Souderton, Montgomery Co., PA. She was born June 12, 1921 at Vernfield, Montgomery Co., PA to William W. and Mamie (Gottshall) Freed. She was married to Leroy M. Halteman, who died in 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Ann Blosser and husband Nelson; four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Kenneth Halteman, preceded him/her in death.

Halteman, Melvin A., 80, of Newburg, PA died Monday Sept. 25, 2017, in the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Franconia, Pennsylvania, the son of Melvin and Carrie Alderfer Halteman.
Mr. Halteman is survived by his wife, Patricia Derstine Halteman.
He had worked as a salesman for Agri-King, and had been a truck driver.
Mr. Halteman was a member of Diller Mennonite Church in Newville.
In addtion to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gary Halteman and wife Joanne of Newville, Ray Halteman and wife Linda of Newburg, and David Halteman and wife Rebecca of Newburg; three daughters, Susan Sheeler, and husband Sam of Newville, Lisa Martin and husband Edmund of Orrstown, and Rhonda Hartzler of Hickory, North Carolina; one sister, Miriam Halteman of Souderton, Pennsylvania; one sister-in-law, Clara Halteman of New York; 26 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by eight siblings.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Newville Assembly of God, 403 Oak Flat Road, Newville, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2017.
A funeral service will be held in the church at 10:30 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Joseph Kindon officiating. Burial will follow in Diller Mennonite Church Cemetery
Halteman, Merrill B., 80, of Chalfont, Bucks Co., PA died November 15, 2017 at Doylestown, Bucks Co., PA. He was born November 3, 1937 at Souderton, Montgomery Co., PA to Abram A. and Jennie (Becker) Halteman. On August 1, 1959 he was married to Dorothy W. Hockman, who was born November 7, 1940 and survives.
Surviving are children, Cherolyn E. Kulp & husband, Barry; Merrill Brandon Halteman & wife, Debra; six grandchildren; and a brother, Arlan A. Halteman.
A brother, Stanley Halteman and a sister, Doris M. Landis preceded him in death.

Handrich, Savilla I. Troyer, 91, of Dalton died Friday August 4, 2017 at her residence following a long period of declining health.
She was born April 2, 1926 in Mio, Michigan to the late Samuel and Katie (Gascho) Troyer and married Bruce E. Handrich on March 31, 1946. He died April 7, 2011.
She was a long-term resident of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula area before moving to Ohio fourteen years ago. Savilla was mother to eight children and worked with her husband Bruce building and nurturing the Germfask Mennonite Church in
Germfask, MI for thirty-seven years. She spent the cold Northern Michigan winter and spring poring over seed catalogs and designing flower gardens. The resulting flowerbeds were legendary. After her children were all in school, she went to work outside the home and gained notoriety (even infamy) as the Savilla behind Savilla’s Pasties and Pies—first at the Golden Grill in Seney, MI and then at the retirement restaurant she and Bruce opened—the Germfask Coffee Shop. She was a member of Salem Mennonite Church, near Kidron.
She is survived by her sister Wilma (Troyer) Bontrager of Fairview, MI and her children: daughter–in-law Amelia Handrich of Alberquerque, NM, Tony (June) Handrich of Salem, OR, Penelope (Ron) Himes of Dalton, OH, Pamela (Clair) Mast of Phoenix, AZ, Candace Handrich of Cliff, NM, Wendell (Dorothy) Handrich of Germfask, MI, Rita Handrich of Austin, TX, Donya (Tom) Rondo of Goshen, IN, twenty-five grandchildren, and thirty-six great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Rick Handrich; as well as two brothers and a sister.
Family visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 from 10-11:00 am with memorial services held at 11:00 AM at the Salem Mennonite Church with Pastor Larry Augsburger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling arrangements. Harmon, David Edward, Sr., 83, of Waynesboro, VA died August 14, 2017 at Fishersville, VA. He was born February 11, 1934 in Albemarle Co., VA to Lewis E. and Virginia (Frazier) Harmon. He was married to Bonnie Glass, who is deceased.
Surviving are children, David Harmon, Jr.; Robin Elliot; Lindsie Hall; and stepsons Wayne & Michael Wilberger; four grandchildren, and siblings, Robert (Sharon) Harmon; Dorothy Bailey; Alice (Earl) Savage; and Loretta Pirkey.
A brother, Lewis Harmon, Jr. preceded him in death.

Harnish, Anna E. "Ann" Landis
Dec. 26, 1929 - Oct. 3, 2017
Ann Harnish radiated faith, goodness, and genuine love through her innate capacity to see beyond the veils of others' broken humanity to their true identity as God's cherished ones. Daily, she bathed herself in scripture, dressed herself in prayer, and wore a wholesome love for others on her sleeves. Her unassuming ways, welcoming style, and unwavering assurance of Jesus' love, permeated her life and reached even to stranger's who were greeted on the phone by a hearty, "Jesus loves you!" It's impossible to say how many lives were touched by Ann's earnest message and impassioned life. Her radiant smile, listening ears, warm hugs, girlish giggle, soft, round brown eyes and emulation of Jesus' character provided comfort to those who spent any amount of time with her. Ann found joy in opening her home to those in need and enjoyed nothing more than visiting over egg-in-a-cup or hand-scooped ice cream. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, caring for children, reading her Bible, gazing out the window at the fields and beyond to the river, and singing with her faithful husband. She prayed her children through life and was the kind of grandma that got down on the floor to play games with her precious ones.
Paul Harnish was blessed to be Ann's husband for 67 years, they resided in Washington Boro. Ann is survived by Paul and her seven children, Larry Harnish (m. Paula Harnish), Bob Harnish (m. Karen Deiter), Jean Hoover (m. Don), Marlin Harnish (m. Sharon Hurst), Cheryl Burkholder (m. Rick), Les Harnish (m. Ramona Adams), and Dale Harnish (m. Kelly Sheetz). There are 34 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren who were all blessed to have Ann in their lives.
Ann was the daughter of Benjamin and Ella (Snavely)Landis. She was preceded in death by her brother Aaron Landis (m. Mary Ann Embly). Ann is survived by seven siblings, Benjamin Landis (m. Alma Kreider), Harold Landis (m. late Betty Shenk), Mary Hershey (m. Floyd and m. late Lester Wenger), Mim Good (m. Monroe), Paul Landis (m. Joanne Denlinger), Ira Landis (m. Fay Nolt), and Joyce Eby (m. Mel).
Ann loved any time friends and families gathered and praised Jesus; with this in mind, all are invited to attend a service of celebration and remembrance at Manor Church, 530 Central Manor Rd, Lancaster PA 17603, on October 21, at 10am. Family visitation will follow.
In lieu of flowers and in recognition of Ann's special love for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many others for whom she joyfully and tirelessly cared, the family requests that tributes be directed to support the homecoming of Ann's two future grandchildren, Toby and Clara, who will travel home to join their family, through international adoption by Christmas 2017.

Hartman, Dwight W., 94, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at Oak Lea Nursing Home.
Mr. Hartman was born on March 25, 1923, in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late Daniel Jacob and Lena Good Hartman. He served in the Civilian Public Service camps at Sideling Hill, Pa., and Fort Collins, Colo., from 1944 to 1945. In 1945, he founded Hartman Motor Sales as a Packard Auto Dealership. In 1947, he added a Mack Truck franchise and in 1948 he started a Buick dealership. In 1961, Dwight became a Kenworth Truck dealer, which is now Truck Enterprises Inc., with eight dealerships in the mid-Atlantic states. Truck Enterprises Inc. is the second oldest Kenworth dealership east of the Mississippi. He later founded Hartman’s Inc., a motor freight carrier that operated from 1951 to 1962. He was also a founding member of Massanutten Bank.
Dwight served on the boards of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, Friendship Industries, Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, Virginia Auto Dealers Association, American Truck Dealers and the Harrisonburg Planning Commission. He was an active member of Park View Mennonite Church.
He received numerous awards, including Entrepreneur of the Year by the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce in 1990, the National Dealer of the Year Award by Kenworth Truck Co. in 1986 and 1998, and in 1995 he and his wife, Ellen, were named Philanthropist of the Year for the Association of Fundraising Professionals Shenandoah Chapter.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Hartman of Harrisonburg; three sons, Jim Hartman and wife, Carolyn, of Harrisonburg, Curt Hartman and wife, Jackie, of Bridgewater, and Mark Hartman and wife, Sharon, of Shippensburg, Pa.; a daughter, Jeanne Hartman of Broadway; five grandsons, Scott Hartman and wife, Lisa, of Pittsboro, N.C., Brett Hartman and wife, Leah, of Federal Way, Wash., Nick Hartman and wife, Lindsay, of Winston-Salem, N.C., R.C. Hartman of Grottoes, and Lee Hartman and wife, Erika, of Bridgewater; two granddaughters, Jennifer Risser of Harrisonburg and Lindsay Vilardo and husband, Andrew, of Brookeville, Md.; five great-grandsons, Jacob Hartman of Pittsboro, N.C., Chase Hartman of Federal Way, Wash., Miles Hartman of Winston-Salem, N.C., Charlie Hartman of Bridgewater, and Louis Vilardo of Brookeville, Md.; five great-granddaughters, Sara Hartman of Pittsboro, N.C., Allie Morton-Hartman of Pikesville, Ky., Maddie Hartman of Winston-Salem, N.C., Violet Hartman of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Ellen Vilardo of Brookeville, Md.; and two sisters, Geraldine Hartman Ebersole of Lancaster, Pa., and Rhea Hartman of Harrisonburg.
Mr. Hartman was preceded in death by his children’s mother, Ellen Pellman Hartman; three brothers, Ralph Hartman, Raymond Hartman and Ewell Hartman; and two sisters, Brownie Hartman Bumbaugh and Evelyn Hartman Wenger.
Pastor Phil Kniss will conduct a memorial service on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Park View Mennonite Church. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. Burial will be held privately. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home; however, friends may view and sign the register book on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2016, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Hartman, Dwight W., 94, of Harrisonburg, VA died December 17, 2017 at the same place. He was born March 25, 1923 at Harrisonburg to Daniel Jacob and Lena (Good) Hartman.
On May 25, 2008 at Harrisonburg, he was married to Pearl Hoover, who was born February 15, 1962 and survives. Previously married to the late Ellen Pellman Hartman (died July, 2004).
Surviving are children, Jim (Carolyn) Hartman (Harrisonburg, VA); Curt (Jackie) Hartman (Bridgewater, VA); Mark (Sharon) Hartman (Shippensburg, PA); and Jeanne Hartman (Broadway, VA); seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Geraldine Hartman Ebersole (Lancaster, PA); and Rhea Hartman (Harrisonburg, VA).
Work: Founder and owner of Harman Motor Sales, a Mack Truck franchise, and a Buick dealership, Hartman's Inc. (a motor freight carrier), and finally Truck Enterprises Inc., which continues today. He was a founding member of Massanutten Bank.
Volunteer: Served on the board of Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, Friendship Industries, VMRC retirement center, Laurelville Mennonite Camp, VA Auto Dealers Assoc., American Truck Dealers, and Harrisonburg Planning Commission.

Ira L. Hartman, 96, of Goshen, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at Goshen Hospital.
He was born October 12, 1921 in Elkhart County to Abram and Ada (Hoover) Hartman.
On September 11, 1943 he married Ruby Newcomer in Goshen. She died December 24, 2004. On December 15, 2006 he married Esther (Snyder) Metzler at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church.
She survives along with four children, Kathy (Clarence) Stoltzfus of Goshen, Loren (Marty) Hartman of Canby, Oregon and Terry (Dianne) Hartman and Kevin (Sherry) Hartman, both of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step-children, Sharon (Larry) Erb of Benton, Pat Stahly of Goshen, Don (Nancy) Metzler of Angola and Margaret Wenger of Elkhart; and a sister, Doris Reinhardt of Goshen.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Vesta Weaver and three brothers, Lowell, Lester and Paul Hartman.
A lifetime area resident, Mr. Hartman owned Hartman Brothers Feed Mill in Wakarusa for 20 years and then worked as a cabinet maker for Holiday Rambler for another 20 years.
Friends may call Monday, October 30, 2017 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Tuesday funeral service. Pastor Wes Bontreger will officiate.
Burial will follow in Yellow Creek Cemetery.

WAKARUSE - John Lowell Hartman, 92, died 3:10 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
He was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Cullom, Illinois to John and Grace E. (Cook) Hartman.
On July 25, 1948 he married Doris M. (Miller) Hartman at Olive Mennonite Church.
He is survived by his wife, Doris M. Hartman, Wakarusa, a daughter, Sandi (Sid) Richard, Goshen, a son, Jim (Kim) Hartman, Wooster, Ohio, three sisters, Mildred Winge, Aroma Park, Illinois, Bernice Canham, Cabery, Illinois, Rita Harter, Wakarusa, two brothers, Lewis (Evelyn) Hartman, Goshen, Leroy (Marlene) Hartman, Elkhart, seven grandchildren, Janet (Bob) Sullivan, Corrie (Phil) Vander Ploeg, Erin (Tom) Fautz, Joel (Jami) Richard, Joe Hartman, Caleb Hartman, Gina Richard, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Barbara Elaine Hartman, brothers Paul and Russell Hartman, an infant sister, Lois, and brothers-in-law, Walter Harter, Alvin Winge and Richard Canham.
As a young man, John committed his life to Jesus at Cullom Mennonite Church. He continued to live his life as a faithful follower of Christ and he showed it as a husband, dad, grandpa, laborer, and committed member of Olive Mennonite Church where he served in the past as a trustee.
John worked as a machine operator at Universal Co-op for 24 years and was very mechanically talented.
He was a member of the Michiana Horseshoe League and bowled in a married couple’s league in Elkhart for years. John enjoyed woodworking and playing games.
Visitation will be 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, April 3 and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, April 4, 2017 all at Olive Mennonite Church, 61081 CR 3, Elkhart. Pastor Kevin Yoder will officiate. Burial will take place in Olive (West) Cemetery.

LIMA — Mildred C. Hartman, 95, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017, at her residence.
Mildred was born on February 5, 1922, in Chambersburg, PA to Daniel and Anna (Keener) Martin. Both preceded her in death. She was united in marriage on June 20, 1946, to Edwin Hartman who also preceded her in death.
Mildred is survived by two sons, Harvey (Kriss) Hartman of Lynchburg, VA, and Doyle (Chris) Hartman of Delaware, OH; three daughters, Lynette Ream and Marilyn Hartman, both of Elida, OH, and Phyllis (Adrian) Thomas of Ft. Wayne, IN; two brothers, Jake Martin of Indiana and Lewis (Wilma) Martin of Wisconsin; two sisters, Ella Hershey and Rhoda Stoll, both of Wisconsin; two sisters-in law, Ada Martin and Pearl Martin; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son Daniel Hartman, three brothers, and one sister.
Mildred was a member of the Pike Mennonite Church and was an active member of the Women's Sewing Circle at church.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 22, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Darwin Hartman and Pastor Glenn Rader officiating. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Pike Mennonite Church.

Headings, Clarence J., was born on October 18, 1926 in Harrisonburg, Oregon the son of John and Mary (Kropf) Headings. He peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at his home near Blue River, Wisconsin due to natural causes at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 15 days.
In his youth, he accepted Christ as his personal savior and united with the Amish-Mennonite Church where he remained a faithful servant until death.
On November 23, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lena Marjorie Hostetler at Tampico, Illinois by Bishop Herman Hostetler. To this union was born two sons and five daughters, joined by two sons through adoption. Together they traveled life’s road until God called her home on September 2, 1995 as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
On July 6, 1996, Clarence was united in marriage to Bertha Ellen Shrock in Muscoda by Bishop Roy Headings. They shared life’s joys and sorrows for over 20 years.
Remaining on earth are his wife Bertha; three sons: Wesley (Rhonda) Headings of Blue River, Robert (Tracy) Headings of Minneapolis, James O’Hara of St. Louis; son-in-law Rob (Daisy) Hostetler of Muscoda; 28 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 21 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Clarence was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie, son Benjamin, five daughters: Rosalie, Rachel, Roberta, Rebecca, and Maxine, parents John and Mary (Kropf) Headings, seven brothers: Harvey, Ira, Sam, Alpha, Ora, Roy and Dannie; five sisters: Ella, Lydia, Nellie, Rachel, and Luella. He was the last of his siblings to leave this earth. He often spoke of the homecoming he was looking forward to in heaven.
In 1945, at the age of 19, Clarence lost his right hand as the result of a farming accident. In 1946, both of his parents were killed in automobile accident. Of the seven children born in his home, five died in early childhood due to a heart condition. His first wife was killed suddenly and his only remaining daughter died of cancer. Throughout his life, he endured many financial reverses. Through it all, he persevered to remain positive and continued to praise God for his blessings.
Singing was his greatest joy. The family has lasting memories of sitting around the table singing with Grampa. As we gathered around his death bed and sang, he sang along at times and audibly asked that we keep singing. There was always time for one more song.
The family wishes to sincerely thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to us during this difficult time. Words cannot express our gratitude. Continue to pray for us. Grampa will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Pleasant Valley Amish Mennonite Church in Muscoda with burial to follow in the Pleasant Valley Amish Mennonite Cemetery. Heatwole, C. Franklyn, 89, of La Junta, Otero Co., CO died August 5, 2017 at the same place from kidney failure.
He was born February 1, 1928 at La Junta, CO to E. Herman and Nora F. (Good) Heatwole. Herman was born October 12, 1896 and died April 6, 1991. Nora was born July 19, 1893 and died December 3, 1977.
On April 8, 1953 at La Junta he was married to Esther Marie Bixler, who was born December 25, 1929 and survives.
Surviving are children, Steven J. (Bonnie), Douglas R. (Theresa), Roger L. (Jane), and James F. (Elizabeth); ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Charlene Nielson.
A brother, Elbert H. preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held August 10, 2017 at Emanuel Mennonite Church, La Junta, CO with burial in Fairview Cemetery, La Junta, CO.
Heatwole, Nancy Ozella, 94, a resident of Harrisonburg, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 4, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center. Nancy was born March 3, 1923, in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Melvin Jasper and Mollie Grace Coffman Heatwole.
Nancy attended Oakland View School. She worked as a seamstress for the pants factory in Bridgewater, as crepe spinner for Stehli Silk Mill in Harrisonburg, a secretary for Mennonite Broadcast, and lastly as a dental assistant for Dr. Bruce in Harrisonburg until her retirement.
For many years, she lived a life of servanthood and was dedicated to helping several of her sisters who had aging and physical needs. She was an avid quilter and had numerous quilts for donations over the years at the Mennonite Relief Sale. She was an active member of the Bank Mennonite Church. She was an active member of the VMRC Community, where she had lived for many years.
Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Betty Heatwole and Lou Heatwole; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Esther Heatwole Knicely, Lora, Joseph, Martha, John, Ina, Simeon, M.J., James and Hiriam Heatwole.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Bank Mennonite Cemetery. A memorial service will be held following the graveside service at 3 p.m. at Pike Mennonite Church with Bank Mennonite Church Ministry officiating.
The casket will be closed and there will be no formal visitation.

GOSHEN - Ida Mae Helmuth, 98, of Goshen, died Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Middlebury, to Jacob and Fannie (Schrock) Bontrager.
She is survived by five children, Edna (Tom) VanDiepenbos of New Paris, Darlene Mishler of Shipshewana, Shirley Lewis of LaGrange, Trennis “Tony” (Irene) Helmuth of Sun City West, Arizona and Leland (Connie) Helmuth of Grabil; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Quinten Helmuth; two sons-in-law, Lynn Rheinheimer and Jim Mishler; six brothers, Daniel, Gideon, Simon, Ezra, Lloyd and Elam Bontrager; and three sisters, Clara Gingerich, Laura Ropp and Viola Gingerich.
She was a member of Waterford Mennonite Church and worked for Greencroft until retiring at age 90.
She volunteered until August 2016 in Greencroft laundry.

NAPPANEE - Mary Esther Helmuth, 59, died at 1:35 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 20, 1957, in Elkhart to Marvin N. and Sadie Mae (Frye) Miller.
On Nov.1, 1978, she married Daniel W. Helmuth in Nappanee.
Mrs. Helmuth lived her lifetime in this area. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Mrs. Helmuth is survived by her husband, Daniel; sons, Samuel Ray (JoAnn) Helmuth, Nappanee, Delbert Lee (Martha) Helmuth, Bremen; daughters, Maria Ann (Paul) Chupp, Elaine Sue (Norman Ray) Hochstetler, both of Nappanee; 17 grandchildren; brothers, Raymond (Susie) Miller, New Holland, SC, Howard (Jean) Miller, Leon (Judy) Miller, Fred (Leona) Miller, all of Nappanee, Willis (Betty) Miller, Middlebury, David (Kathy) Miller, Osceola, Marvin (Marva) Miller Jr., Walkerton, Samuel Miller, North Liberty; sisters, Etta (Mose) Miller, Lorene (Noah Jr.) Anderson, both of Nappanee, and Emma (Orva) Whetstone, Topeka. Herr, David Boll, 21, of 1415 Buena Road, Schellsburg, formerly of Aaronsburg died an accidental death at 8:30 PM on Monday, May 29, 2017 due to a boating incident at Shawnee Lake, Bedford County.
He was born on July 17, 1995 in Mifflintown, the son Daniel W. and Dawn Marie (Boll) Herr of Aaronsburg, PA.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Christian J. and Glenda Herr of Millmont, Marvin D. and Jasmine Herr of Lewisburg, four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Amanda J. and Leonard Martin of Fredricksburg, Pa., Lucinda M. and Stephen Sensenig of Reading, Rosanna J. Herr of Aaronsburg, Keturah B. Herr of Aaronsburg, and four nieces and 2 nephews.

Herr, Helen M. Mann, 94, of Willow Street, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital on Sunday, February 12, 2017.
Born in Manor Township September 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Ira K. and Annie S. Mann. She was married 67 years to the late Christian S. Herr, who died October 11, 2012.
Helen was a lifelong member of the Willow Street Mennonite Church. Mrs. Herr was a devoted wife and mother who always put others before herself. She was a member of Farm Women Society #14, an avid gardener of vegetables and flowers, a great seamstress and quilter and a member of the WSM Sewing Circle. Her passion was entertaining friends and family and always trying a new recipe out.
Helen is survived by her 4 sons; Jay C. Herr, Gerald G. Herr (husband of Joni), Dale L. Herr, all of Willow Street, Donald L. Herr of Manheim; a grandson Steven Herr and a great-grandson Gary of Willow Street; 2 sisters, Cora K. Hoover of New Providence, and Martha M. married to Landis Sangrey of Lititz; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Lenox Mann of Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by 5 siblings; Edith M. Gochnauer, George Mann, Anna K. Mann, Kathryn M. Stauffer, and Esther K. Mann, who died at 9 months of age.

Herr, John O., age 94, of Ephrata, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at home. He was the husband of Priscilla King Herr for over 23 years and the late Lillian Miller Herr who passed away in 1992.
Born in Providence Township, he was the son of the late Elmer and Mary Hess Herr. John was a member of the Village Chapel Mennonite Church. He was a farmer in the Coatesville and Downingtown area and also worked at New Holland Machine Company for 15 years. He enjoyed making crafts and volunteering for MCC. He assembled over 300 comforter tops for MCC.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 5 children: Lydia B. Deemer of Ulster, PA, Mary L. Maun, Elisabeth E. (Esteel) Ratcliff, both of Harrisburg, Raymond G. Herr of NY, Jimmy L. Herr of Dallas, PA, 6 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and 4 siblings: Mary Kelly of WA, Mabel Herr of Lititz, Harold Herr of Haiti, and Earl Herr of CA. He was preceded in death by 5 siblings: Frank, Warren, Emma and Edith Herr, and Esther Butler.

Herr, John Rohrer, 83, of 13 Clearfield Rd., New Providence, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital Tuesday evening, January 31, 2017 after a brief illness.
He was the son of the late John Heller Herr and Mabel Rohrer Herr.
John was a lifelong farmer who loved the land. He was an active member of Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church, where he especially enjoyed the men's Sunday School class.
Surviving is his wife, Joanne R. MIDLLEBURY - Anita Faith Hershberger, an infant daughter of Raymond and Frieda (Bontrager) Hershberger died on Saturday, March 25, at her residence.
She was born on Jan. 14, 2017, in Fort Wayne.
Survivors in addition to her parents are a sister, Emily Diane Hershberger at home; grandparents, Daniel and Ada Bontrager, Joni and Ida Hershberger; great-grandmother, Edna Mast.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Amy Grace Hershberger, great-grandparents, Amos and Wilma Bontrager and a great-grandfather, John Mast.
Visitation is after 10 a.m. Monday, March 27, at the Merle Miller residence, 1885 N. C.R. 1150 W, Middlebury.
Funeral services are at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28 at the Merle Miller residence.

WAKARUSA - Dorothy Mae Hershberger, 87, of Wakarusa, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa, where she had resided the past year.
She was born March 5, 1930, in Goshen, to John and Fanny (Nisley) Hershberger.
On Dec. 10, 1949, she married Martin K. Hershberger, in Goshen. He died Feb. 28, 2010.
She is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Sue) Hershberger of Elkhart, Dale (Deb) Hershberger of Goshen and Wayne (Carrie) Hershberger of Miami, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Lynda Hershberger of Goshen; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a sister, Mary Rheinheimer of Plymouth.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Galen D. Hershberger, and four brothers, Calvin, Lloyd, Ervin and Jay Hershberger.
Dorothy, along with her husband, Martin, was a lifelong area resident and former owner of Hershberger Heating Inc.
Dorothy was a loving homemaker who was known for her great barbeque chicken.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and sewing and cherished spending time with grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where an 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, memorial service will take place.

GOSHEN - Jay Hershberger, 86, died Saturday, May 27, 2017.
He was born on April 8, 1931, to John and Fannie (Nisley) Hershberger.
On Oct. 7, 1951, in Elkhart County he married Ruby Ellen Eash and she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a daughter, Rose Ann (Harold) Stutzman; three sons, Gary (LuAnn) Hershberger, Jeryl (Trish) Hershberger, Mark (Glenda) Hershberger of Beaufort, South Carolina; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Hershberger and Mary Rheinheimer.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home.
Friends and family will gather at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, at Clinton Brick Cemetery in Goshen for a graveside service.
A celebration of life service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Maple City Chapel in Goshen.

Hershey, Eleanor M. Hostetter, 98, died at the Mennonite Home on Sunday, March 19, 2017. She was the wife of the late Amos Hershey, who died in 2001.
Eleanor was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and reading. She braided many wool rugs for MCC and had volunteered at LGH.
She was a former member of Old Road Mennonite Church.
Born in Salisbury Township, she was the daughter of the late Galen B. and Suzie (Kreider)* Hostetter. She is survived by two sons, Cleo R. married to Mary Ann (Denlinger) Hershey of New Holland and Orie H. Hershey of Lancaster; a daughter, Vera married to Ralph S. Todd of Manheim; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; a brother, G. Hershey Hostetter, and two sisters, Sara married to Richard Buckwalter, and Emma married to Parke Ranck. Eleanor was preceded in death by an infant son, a grandson, Curtis, and five sisters, Elverta Horst, Virginia, Verna, Mary, and Lydia.
There will be a viewing on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 10:00 until 11:00 AM in the Hershey Mennonite Church, 401 Hershey Church Road, Kinzers, PA 17535. The funeral is 11:00 AM in the church with Pastor John H. Denlinger officiating. Interment will follow in Hershey Mennonite Cemetery.

Hershey, Elizabeth "Betty" M. Moyer, 88, of Souderton, PA died May 12, 2017 at the same place. She was born June 29, 1928 to Norman M. and Ida (Detweiler) Moyer. She was married to Harold B. Hershey, who died May 15, 1954.
Surviving are children, John and Dawn Stanislaw; Alfred "Al" and Kim Richter; Steven and Kathleen Hershey; and Douglas E. Hershey; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rachel Myers and Miriam Birky.
Two sisters, Esther Wenger and Ruth Koppenhaver, and a brother, Justus Moyer preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held May 21, 2017 at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, Blooming Glen, PA, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Hershey, Katherine E., 100, moved from her home on Earth to her home in Heaven on Friday, January 13, 2017. She was born on October 1, 1916, the daughter of I. Leaman and Alice M. Hershey, late of Gap, PA. She was a resident of Landis Homes for over 30 years.
For over 50 years of her life, she worked with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), 40 of those as Director of CEF of Lancaster County. This involved instructing adults concerning teaching the Bible to children, as well as teaching Good News Club, directing camps, planning children's rallies and other activities in involving Bible teaching to children. Much of her ministry was also outside of Pennsylvania to both children and adults, both in other states as well as a few instances overseas. She authored a number of Bible lessons for teaching children, many of which are translated into other languages and taught in various parts of the world.
Katherine was a member of Neffsville Mennonite Church, where she directed the children's department for over 40 years, with the assistance of many others, and conducted VBS, children's programs, etc.
Monthly meetings of Reader's Hour Book Club were an important part of her life for about 70 years. In later years, she taught adult Sunday school class at Neffsville Mennonite Church as well as Bible studies at Landis Homes.
Katherine is survived by two sisters, Alma Rohrer (late Clarence W.), Arlene (Melvin) Snyder, all of Lititz; a brother, Clair (Myrna) Hershey of Stuarts, VA; 14 nieces and nephews and many great, great-great and five great-great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann (late Phares) Zook and a niece.
Katherine desired her remains be donated to Humanity Gifts Registry for scientific research.

Hershey, Mary Elaine Moore, 88, of Harrisonburg, and formerly of Blooming Glen, Pa., passed away June 1, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center. She was born Feb. 27, 1929, in Perkasie, Pa., and was the daughter of the late H. Franklin and M. Alverda Stoudt Moore.
She worked for Grand View Hospital as a registered nurse for many years and for Community Home Services. Mrs. Hershey served in Pastoral Care for Blooming Glen Mennonite Church. She was a member of the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church and attended Park View Mennonite Church and JOY Group activities from the Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene in Harrisonburg, Va.
On Dec. 11, 1954, she married Paul Burkhart Hershey, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Debra Bontrager and husband, Dale, of Harrisonburg, Sandra Kauffman and husband, Glen, of Harrisonburg and Beth Reigner and husband, Jason, of Sinking Spring, Pa.; a sister, Lois Wismer of Perkasie, Pa.; a brother, J. Henry Moore of Souderton, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Amy) Bontrager, Kristina Bontrager, Daniel (Erin) Kauffman, Amanda (Josh) Lyreman, Rebekah, Ben, Nate and Natalie Reigner and three great-grandchildren, Carter, Kayden and Ella Bontrager.
The family will receive friends at the viewing Friday, June 9, 2017, at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 1 p.m. Burial will be private.

Hershey, Mary "Elaine" Moore, 88, of Harrisonburg, VA died June 1, 2017 at VMRC, Harrisonburg, VA. She was born February 27, 1929 at Perkasie, PA to H. Franklin and M. Alverda (Stoudt) Moore. On December 11, 1954 she was married to Paul Burkhart Hershey, who was born February 6, 1933 and died May, 20, 2014.
Surviving are children, Debra Bontrager (Dale) of Harrisonburg, VA; Sandra Kauffman (Glen) of Harrisonburg, VA; and Beth Reigner (Jason) of Sinking Spring, PA; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Wismer of Perkasie, PA and a brother, J. Henry Moore of Souderton, PA.
Elaine worked as an RN at Grand View Hospital and Community Home Services in PA. She was a member at and served in Pastoral Care at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church. She moved to Harrisonburg with her husband Paul, and attended Park View Mennonite Church during her retirement years.

GOSHEN - Jack A. Hertig, 76, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at the Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart.
He was born Jan. 9, 1941 in Wayland, Iowa to Allen D. and Iola (Hite) Hertig.
On August 25, 1963 he married Ruthann Nisley at Rock Run Church of the Brethren, Goshen.
She survives along with two daughters, Susan (Harry) Hochstetler, Goshen and Stephanie (Mark) Richard, Omaha, Nebraska, and five grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Hertig, and a grandchild.
Jack was a member of Silverwood Mennonite Church and former vice president of Schultz Homes. He was very active in the local construction industry serving on the board of the Elkhart Career Center's Building Trades course for 35 years.
He also served in many positions on the Elkhart County Home Builder's Association. He was recognized nationally as home builder of the month in 1984. He continued to work as long as he was able owning and operating Jack Hertig Building and Remodeling.
Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 3, (today) from 1 to 4 p.m. at Silverwood Mennonite Church, 1712 W. Clinton Street, Goshen, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Monday, Sept. 4, also at the church.
Pastor Donna Mast will officiate.
Cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory and interment at Silverwood Mennonite Church will be at a later date.

Hertig, Jack A., 76, of Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN died September 1, 2017 at Elkhart, Elkhart Co., IN. He was born January 9, 1941 at Wayland, IA to Allen D. and Iola (Hite) Hertig. On August 28, 1963 at Goshen he was married to Ruthann Nisley, who survives.

Hertzler, Harry W., born April 4, 1917, to the late Henry P. and Anna (Shenk) Hertzler, passed away peacefully from this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the age of 100 years, 2 months and 10 days at Lincoln Christian Home where he resided for 2 ½ years. He was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA, where he had lived for 13 years with his wife Alma J. ( Martin) (Swartzendruber) Hertzler. He was ordained to the ministry at Rock Mennonite Church, Elverson, PA in 1958, and endeavored to serve faithfully in many church, school, and mission capacities.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 6 sons, J. David, husband of Ilva of Milford, DE, Joseph, husband of Norma of Cumberland, VA, John Paul of Fair Play, SC, Daniel, husband of Ruth of Chewelah, WA, Michael, husband of Kay of Meadville, PA, Henry, husband of Gwen of Tahlequah, OK; a daughter, Lois Ann, wife of Phillip Danner of Hanover, PA; 2 step-daughters, Ruth (Swartzendruber), wife of Paul Hollingshead of Reinholds, PA, Rosa Swartzendruber of Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA; a son-in-law, Marvin, husband of Jean Rohrer of Browerville, MN; a brother-in-law, Johnny Wenger of Goshen, IN; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters; his first wife, Edna W. (Wenger) Hertzler; a daughter, Mary June (Hertzler) Rohrer and a daughter-in-law, Alma (Yoder) Hertzler.

Heussman, Gunther D., 78, of Emmaus, Lehigh C0., PA died December 19, 2017 at the same place. He was born December 28, 1938 at Sellersville, PA to Herbert and Anna (Spreckleman) Heussman. He was married to Francis Long, who survives.
Surviving are a son, Wayne (Rebecca); two grandchildren, and a sister, Eleanor Long.

High, Dorothy Jane Weaver, 81, of Ephrata, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Fairmount Homes.
She was born in Lancaster to the late Norman K. and Elizabeth (Harnish) Weaver and was the wife of Floyd W. High with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.
She was a member of Metzler's Mennonite Church where she was involved in Sewing Circle and taught children's Sunday School for many years.
Dorothy was a homemaker. In her early years she worked for Walter W. Moyer and most recently in the kitchen at Garden Spot Auto Auction. She enjoyed volunteering for MRC cutting room, Ephrata Re-Uzit, Friendship Community and the Ephrata Fair Young Farmers Food Stand. She had been an auditor for Ephrata Township for several years and also a dealer for Stanley Home Products for 25 years. She enjoyed having yards sales and playing games with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by 4 children, Theresa W., wife of Allen E. Ackley of Stevens, Timothy F., husband of Joyce (Eberly) High of Ephrata, Thomas K. High of Cimmaron, CO, Tamela J., wife of Jeffrey Smoker of Cochranville; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard H., husband of Bertha "Cindy" Weaver of Lancaster and a sister-in law, Norma Weaver of Quarryville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert H. Weaver.

High, Lamar B., 38, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 8, 2017. Born in Lebanon on August 25, 1979, he was the son of Glenn M. and Lucille N. Burkholder High, with whom he resided.
During his school age years he attended Berks Co. Intermediate Unit in Governor Mifflin and Wilson School Districts. He also helped on the family farm. He attended Martin's Mennonite Church of the Weaverland Conference, Womelsdorf.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Glenn Lavern High, husband of Delphine (Sensenig) High of Robesonia; four sisters, Lorraine B. High of Robesonia, Lori B., wife of James Z. Martin of Charles City, IA, Lucille B., wife of Lester Z. Horning of Myerstown, Lois B., wife of Kevin R. Sensenig of Sinking Spring. He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews.

High, Lydia G. Weaver, 96, of Myerstown, PA, died on Sunday, February 12, 2017 in her home. She was the wife of the late Ivan H. High who died on February 23, 2002.
Lydia was born in Churchtown, Lancaster Co. on February 4, 1921, a daughter of the late Levi M. and Leah Gingrich Weaver. Lydia was a member of the Mt. Zion Mennonite Church of the Weaverland Conference.
She is survived by children, Eleanor Hoover wife of the late Landis Hoover of Myerstown; Elaine Harbaugh of Lebanon; Lloyd High husband of Lorraine Horst High of Myerstown; Irvin High husband of Irene Hurst High of Myerstown; David High husband of Climena Martin High of Myerstown; son-in-law, Walter Martin of Myerstown; 25 grandchildren; 95 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Huber wife of Melvin Huber of Myerstown; Mildred Martin wife of Paul Martin of Pine Grove. Himes, Edith Lehman Kurtz of Harrisonburg, Va., departed this life and went quietly into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Jan. 21, 2017, at the age of 88.
Born on Aug. 31, 1928, her life was lived as an example to those around her of the kindness and love of her Lord. Joy and gentleness were the marks of her life as she reflected the life of Christ to all who knew her. She grew up in the Park View area and attended schools there. She was the youngest of five daughters born to John Esly Kurtz and Elizabeth Lehman Kurtz.
In 1951, she was married to Raymond Himes of North Canton, Ohio, and they had five children, born in three different states as Ray pastored churches and worked as a mason contractor. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Edith's greatest love was home and family and was the place she wanted to be. After Ray's early death, she studied antique china restoration and worked many years in her home for various antique dealers. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing into her 80s.
Surviving are a sister, Betty Viola Deputy (married to Byard "Doc" Deputy); sister-in-law, Evelyn Moore (married to the late Lawrence Moore) and sister-in-law, Kathryn Himes (married to the late Paul Himes). Also preceding her in death on Ray's side was the late Jerry Himes (married to the late Marilyn Himes).
Her oldest sister, Rose Mae Mullet, went to be with the Lord later on the same day as Edith. She is survived by her husband, Keith Mullet.
Also preceding her in death are her parents and sisters, Mary Landis (married to the late Paul Landis) and Ruth Hobbs (married to the late Cletus Hobbs).
Her children, all living, are Danny Himes (wife, Deborah) with their children, Christopher, Luke and Rachel; Ronald Himes (wife, Penelope) with their children, Kristin, Shawna and Joshua; Dennis Himes (wife, Cindy) and their son, Cody; Carol Himes Hakey; Byron "Scott" Himes (wife, Tammy) with their children, Cassandra, Hesus, GiaVanni, Nautica and Jadin.
Edith was a member of Harrisonburg Mennonite Church at 1522 S. High St., and services will be held there on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Pastors Mark Keller, Craig Maven and Jonathan Lee officiating. There will be an informal time of fellowship and visiting from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Lunch will follow the service.
The casket will be closed. Burial will be held in Kidron, Ohio.

Histand, Marlita Diane
March 11, 1993 - August 1, 2017
Marlita Diane Histand was born to John and Diane Histand on March 11, 1993 in Towanda, Pennsylvania, just before the Blizzard of 1993. She joined two sisters, 5-year-old Krista and 3-year-old Janeen in the Histand home in Rome, Pennsylvania.
Marlita was always small for her age. She was the baby of the family for nearly six years, when her brother Bryce joined them in 1999, followed by Chantel in 2003. As a preschooler, Marlita traveled with her family to visit missionary cousins in Haiti, as well as a trip to the New England states. She was “Mommy’s Girl” and loved to snuggle.
Marlita started school at six years old at Union Valley Christian School. Recess and friendships, especially with Amber and Misty, were her favorite part of school. Her teacher for grades 1-12 was Miss Wanita who was also a cousin to the Histand children. Her least favorite part of school was math, but Miss Wanita helped her through all the way to graduation. Marlita enjoyed class trips: the Niagara Falls, the Franklin Institute in Philadephia where she enjoyed “Tornado Alley” with her brother Bryce, and a senior trip to Martha’s Vineyard with Miss Wanita and Amber.
At the age of 14, Marlita gave her heart and life to God one spring morning before school in 2007. She was baptized at Union Valley Mennonite Church in the fall of 2009 and received as a member. She put her faith into action by blessing others in small, but kind and loving ways.
Although she did not enjoy cooking and baking, Marlita did frequently make pizza, her favorite food, for her family for supper. She loved buying shoes and sweaters with her sisters, camping with immediate and extended family, coloring projects, and amateur photography. Anywhere Marlita went she was always surrounded by children and loved to read them stories. Deer hunting with her Daddy, sisters & brother was a hightlight of hers, and she was often known for getting the "big" doe.
She attended Maranatha Bible School in 2013, 2014, and 2015, taking choir tours to western Canada, and United States, Haiti, and the eastern United States and Canada. An administrator at Maranatha Bible School spoke of Marlita’s godly influence at Maranatha Bible School, saying to her parents, “She was always a blessing and encouragement to us! Your beautiful daughter touched many lives for Christ at Maranatha.”
Marlita’s goal was to enjoy life and be a friend to everyone. She taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. She took a job as a nanny for twins William and Margaret Chappell, starting from the time they were one month old for about six years until the time of her illness. She was grateful to their parents, Bob and Jenny, for allowing her to be their “second mom”. She read many books to them, told them about Jesus, and taught them to pray.
Marlita enjoyed singing. She always sang on pitch, without hesitation. She sang alto primarily, but was also comfortable with tenor or soprano. Besides the Maranatha choir tour, she sang with Echoes of Hope church youth choir and with her family. She sang at nursing homes, for neighbors, and at special events. In 2013 her youth group recorded their singing professionally. Marlita sang the solo part on the first verse of the song “Going Home”. “Going home, I’m just going home,” she sang, “quiet like some still day, I’m just going home.”
In November 2016, Marlita noticed a pain in her hip, which she concluded was a pulled muscle. By the new year, it had not gone away, so she went to her family doctor in early March and was prescribed five weeks of physical therapy around the time of her 24th birthday.
Because Marlita was born in a blizzard, she was excited to see a snowy forecast for March 2017. She prayed, asking God for a blizzard for her birthday. She received almost three feet of snow!
She underwent the five weeks of physical therapy, but her therapists became concerned because the pain was not going away. She was referred to an orthopedic spine clinic, where she met Lisa Roberts, a caring nurse practitioner who helped Marlita and her family through the necessary tests and the diagnosis of Stage 4 Breast Cancer. Because of a tumor in the Sacrum, she was experiencing severe back pain and numbness below her knees.
Throughout the time of her illness, Marlita relied on the support of her parents, sisters, brothers, cousins and friends, with whom she enjoyed so many good times in the past. She longed to be normal again and join her friends and family in their activities! But even though she was no longer able to participate, if a fun activity came up she told her siblings, “Go.”
Marlita and her family felt that many of the doctors and nurses were selected by God to help them through this difficult time. Without fail, Marlita said “thank you” to each hospital staff member as they left her room after helping her. Marlita’s family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Knapper Clinic and the Geisinger Danville Hospital for their love and genuine care. They specifically want to thank Lisa Roberts from neurosurgery, Sally Regel, nurse practitioner from palliative medicine, and Dr. Vogel of Hematology Oncology.
Marlita was not a morning person, but she passed away on August 1, 2017 at 6:40 am, surrounded by family at Geisinger Medical Center. On this beautiful Tuesday morning, she became the first of her family to “go home… some still day” as her solo choir part said.
Marlita is survived by her parents, John and Diane, and her brother and sisters: Krista, Janeen, Bryce, and Chantel, as well as by maternal grandparents Warren & Lois Clugston, and many dear Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Arthur and Doris Histand.
Family and friends are invited to attend a services to celebrate Marlita's life: Visitations will be held Saturday August 5, 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel 273 S. Main St. Nichols, NY 13812. Her Service will be held Sunday, August 6, 2:00 p.m. at the Towanda Independent Baptist Church 109 Cherry St. Towanda, PA 18848. GOSHEN - Clara Hochstetler, 84, of Goshen, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2017.
She was born Dec. 14, 1932, in Marshall County, to Manasses D. and Amelia (Borkholder) Hochstetler.
Surviving are two sisters, Judith Kauffman and Anna Gingerich; three brothers, Ezra (Patricia), John Henry (Mary Ellen) and Wilbur (Susie) Hochstetler; and two sisters-in-law, Ada and Miriam Hochstetler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Clarence, Tobias and Ura Hochstetler and two brothers-in-law, Allen Kauffman and Andy Gingerich.
Visitation will be all day Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the Ferlin Kauffman residence, 56815 C.R. 116, Middlebury.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, also at the Ferlin Kauffman residence.

Hochstetler, Edward D., age 90, of Nappanee, died at 7:00 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2017 at Goshen Hospital. He was born October 22, 1927 in Nappanee to Daniel I. and Barbara (Schmucker) Hochstetler. On January 18, 1951 he married Rachel Hostetler in Nappanee. Edward was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He was a lifetime area resident and worked many years as a factory worker.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel; children, Norma Jean (Ira A.) Borntreger, Milladore, WI, Dale W. (Kathryn) Hochstetler, Nappanee, Glen R. (Kathryn) Hochstetler, Millersburg, Linda M. (Glen W.) Weaver, Shipshewana, Lorene K. (Tom) Marvel, Etna Green; 24 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; brother, Leroy (Lydia Mae) Hochstetler, Plain City, OH. Erma Hochstetler, age 76, of Nappanee, died at 11:04 am, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at her residence after a battle with cancer for 3 years and 4 months. She was born September 20, 1941 in New Paris to Menno J. and Sarah (Burkholder) Miller. Mrs. Hochstetler grew up in Arthur, Illinois and moved to Nappanee after her marriage on September 19, 1961 to Earl E. Hochstetler.
Mrs. Hochstetler was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

He was born on Dec. 21, 1923, in Topeka to Dan and Anna (Wickey) Hochstetler.
Surviving are six daughters, MaryAnna (Lloyd) Miller, Irene (Ora Jay) Eash, Wilma (Elmer) Schrock, Ida Mae Hochstetler, Luella (William) Schrock, Katie (John) Troyer; two brothers, Dan (Edna) Hochstetler, John (Katie) Hochstetler; two sisters, Mary (Ora, deceased) Miller, Edna (Merle) Christner.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday, March 26, all day Monday, March 27, at James Hochstetler residence, 3035 West 350 South LaGrange.

JACKSON, Miss. - Hannah Grieser Hochstetler, 26, of Jackson, Miss., passed away Jan. 19, 2017.
Hannah was born Nov. 4, 1990, in Goshen, to Michael and Beth Grieser.
She attended Goshen College where she met her husband, Caleb Hochstetler. Caleb and Hannah recently moved to Jackson, where they worked as unit leaders and house parents for a Service Adventure unit (part of Mennonite Mission Network) of young adults doing voluntary service.
Previously, they lived in Harrisonburg, Va., where they attended Ridgeway Mennonite Church and served as youth leaders.
Hannah spent much of her time creating and capturing beauty through photography, painting and graphic design. She was known for her deep faith, authenticity and joy.
In addition to her husband and parents, Hannah is survived by her paternal grandparents Willard “Bill” and Marilyn Grieser of Archbold, Ohio, and maternal grandmother, Donna Smucker of Goshen. Also surviving are a brother, Nathan Grieser and wife Kate (Derstine) and their two daughters, Ivy and Juniper of Lancaster, Pa.; a sister, Sarah Grieser of Goshen; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather John R. Smucker and an aunt, Beth (Grieser) Neuenschwander.
Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at East Goshen Mennonite Church.
A 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, memorial service will take place at College Mennonite Church.

died January 19, 2017 at Roanoke, VA in an auto accident. She was born November 4, 1990 at Goshen, IN to Michael and Elizabeth (Smucker) Grieser. On July 26, 2014 at Goshen she was married to Caleb Alderfer Hochstetler, who was born February 22, 1991 and survives.
Also surviving are her parents, a brother, Nathan & Katherine (Kate) Grieser; and a sister, Sarah Grieser.

EIKHART - Mark A. Hochstetler, 52, of Elkhart, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, after a short illness at the home of his parents.
He was born May 29, 1965, in Goshen, to Omer and Nancy (Ingle) Hochstetler.
They survive along with a sister, Patty (Mike) Mast of Middlebury and a brother, Kevin (Kassandra) Hochstetler of Constantine, Michigan.
A lifelong area resident, Mark worked as a service technician in the RV Industry.
He was a member of Feral Cat Association.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, funeral service will be conducted.
Pastor Mike Bird, Pleasant Ridge Christian Fellowship, will officiate.
Cremation will follow the service.

NAPPANEE - Menno J. Hochstetler, 89, of Nappanee, died at 3:25 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Signature Healthcare, Bremen.
He entered into his heavenly rest peacefully, surrounded by his family.
He was born July 16, 1927, to John C. and Sara (Borkholder) Hochstetler in Elkhart County.
He was a lifetime area resident.
On March 16, 1950, he married Catherine Miller in Nappanee.
Menno was a farmer and he had worked for Holiday Rambler and Newmar.
Menno was a member of the Maranatha Fellowship. He volunteered for M.D.S. (Mennonite Disaster Services).
Menno was a driver for American Red Cross blood drives.
He enjoyed fixing things for family.
He also enjoyed helping people both at home and through missions and mission work.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; sons Harold (Pam) Hochstetler of Bremen, Larry Hochstetler of Nappanee and Alan (Jeanne) Hochstetler of Bourbon; daughters Clara (Lazaro) Ulloa of Bremen, Marietta (Charlie) Mullet of Nappanee and Ruth (Gerry) Poole of Sarasota, Florida; 15 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren 17 great great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Helen Hochstetler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Levi, Mose, Joe and Neil Hochstetler; sisters Lizzie Harshberger, Lovina Troyer, Mary Mast and Barbara Hershberger.

Hochstetler, Monroe “Jay”, 72, of Nappanee, died unexpectedly of natural causes, Friday evening, July 7, 2017 at his home. He was born June 6, 1945 in Elkhart to the late Andrew M. and Sovilla (Schmucker) Hochstetler.
On September 19, 1968, he married Erma Stoltzfus. She preceded in death October 1, 2014.

Hochstetler, Orlin, 86, of rural Williamsburg, Iowa died September 15, 2017 at Iowa City, Johnson Co., Iowa. He was born January 3, 1931 to Earl and Mary (Krabill) Hochstetler. On April 17, 1954 at Kalona, Washington Co., Iowa he was married to Lores Brenneman, who survives.
Surviving are children, Kim (Cheri) Hochstetler; Kathy Lippold and Kirk Hochstetler; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Arlene Miller; and Mary (Keith) Brenneman; and a brother, Dale (Lucille) Hochstetler.
Two brothers, Donald Hochstetler and Roger Hochstetler preceded him in death.
Orlin served on the International MEDA Board for 6 years.

LAGRANGE - Polly D. Hochstetler, 80, of LaGrange, died Tuesday, Feb. 28.
She was born July 19, 1936, to Dan and Lydia (Miller) Bontrager.
She married Ervin D. Hochstetler and he survives.
Survivors also are stepdaughters Mary Anna Miller, Irene Eash, Wilma Schrock, Ida Mae Hochstetler, Luella Schrock and Katie Troyer; 49 step-grandchildren; brother Christ Bontrager; sisters Katie Bontrager, Elma Troyer, Leanna Troyer and Idasue Bontrager.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Delbert and Daniel Bontrager; and two step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Wednesday March 1, and all day Thursday, March 2, at the James Hochstetler residence, 3035 W. 350 S., LaGrange.

NAPPANEE - Verda Hochstetler, 93, of Nappanee, surrounded by her family, went to be with her Lord and Saviour at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Marshall County, to Eli J. and Sarah (Miller) Hochstetler.
On June 1, 1947, she married Levi JS Hochstetler in Marshall County. He preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1998.
Mrs. Hochstetler attended the Best School. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Sauerkraut Factory, Blue Bell Jean Factory, Christian Light Bookstore and Grrreat Creations, all in Nappanee.
Mrs. Hochstetler was a member of New Wine Church in Bourbon where she taught Children's Sunday school for several years.
She was a member of the Better Homes Extension Homemaker's Club.
In 2011, Verda was at LuAnn Nursing Home for Rehabilitation after a car accident. During her stay she learned about a Bandage Project in rolling and making bandages for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
She referred to this as her "Missions Project." She continued to be diligent in making and rolling bandages from then until one month ago.
Mrs. Hochstetler is survived by her children, Doris (Morgan) Rowland of Niles, Mich., Roger (Colleen Baade) Hochstetler of Lincoln, Neb. and Charles (Annette) Hochstetler of New Paris; grandchildren Jay (Jennifer) Hochstetler of Goshen, Scott (Jenny Jayne) Rowland of Chicago, Chad (Mariam) Rowland of Niles, Kenton (Katherine) Hochstetler of Brownsburg and Brooks Hochstetler of Goshen; two stepgrandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; sister Ellen Chupp of Nappanee; and brothers Lonnie Hochstetler and Earl (Erma) Hochstetler, both of Nappanee and Marvin E. Hochstetler of Goshen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Sylvia, Edna, Mattie and Lovina; and brothers Willis, Glen, Omer, and Jesse.

She was born May 7, 1927, in LaGrange, to Jerry and Susie (Miller) Lambright.
Surviving are a daughter, Ida Mae (Mervin) Hershberger; son Ivan Jay (Katie) Hochstetler; daughter-in-law Mary (Levi) Miller of Shipshewana; sister Ida Mae (Melvin) Schlabach of LaGrange, brothers Chris (Anna Mae) Lambright, and Sam (Anna) Lambright; and sister-in-law, Anna Lambright.

Hofer, Larry J., 75, of Bridgewater, Hutchinson Co., SD, died May 19, 2017 at Sioux Falls, Minnehaha Co., SD due to cancer and other complications.
He was born April 12, 1942 at Bridgewater, SD to Joe E. and Erna (Gross) Hofer. Joe was born November 21, 1909 and Erna was born August 9, 1912 and died May 9, 1968
On October 22, 1966 at Freeman, Hutchinson Co., SD he was married to Brigitta Rademacher, who was born October 3, 1947 and survives.
Surviving are children, Kelly (Brian) Hefti; Stephanie (Michael) Burgeson; and Robin (Mike) Jaspers; six grandchildren, and a brother, Derrold (Marilyn) Hofergreat.
Memorial services were held May 24, 2017 at Hutterthal Mennonite Church, Freeman, SD with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Hollinger, J. Clair, 88, of Landis Homes, formerly of Lititz, went home to be with his Lord, on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. Born in W. Lampeter Twp., he was the son of the late Mahlon S. and Katie R. Leaman Hollinger. He was the loving husband of Lois E. Shirk Hollinger, having celebrated 65 years of marriage in September.
After serving 1W service in Philadelphia for 2 years, he went on to work as a cabinet maker for Kreider Brothers in Smoketown. A graduate of Eastern Mennonite Seminary, he served several congregations including Vine Street Mennonite and Charlotte St. Mennonite churches in Lancaster, Ridgeway Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, VA, and Lititz Mennonite Church. Along with his wife, he served as a missionary in Trinidad. He also taught industrial art at Lancaster Mennonite High School. He also served as a radio pastor for Moments of Glad Tidings. He served as an evangelist in many churches throughout Lancaster County and beyond.
Clair will be remembered for his devotion to God and his family, as well as his stories and poems. He enjoyed building wooden puzzles and playing games. Clair loved people; everyone he met became a friend.
In addition to his wife, he will be lovingly missed by: 3 sons, Jeryl married to Mary Hurst Hollinger, Kalispell, MT, John married to Grace Garber Hollinger, Quarryville, Joseph married to Cheryl Sell Hollinger, Lancaster; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Hollinger, Kathryn (Kay) Hollinger, both of Lancaster; brothers-in-law, Harvey Hostetter, Landis Homes, Willard Stauffer, Ephrata. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service will held on Tuesday, Nov. 14th at 11 AM at the Landis Homes West Bethany Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz. The family will visit with friends from 9 to 10:45 AM at the chapel on Tuesday. Private interment will be in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. Hoober, Mervin S., 85, of New Holland, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on August 30th, 2017. Born in New Holland, he was the son of the late Aaron and Esther Snyder Hoober. He was the loving husband of Ruth Ressler Hoober and shared 65 years of marriage. He will also be lovingly missed by: his children, Barbara (Clair) Denlinger, Bonita (Ronald) Stoltzfus, Tim (Jul) Hoober, Andrea (Garth) Good, Alissa (Craig) Regitz; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris (Paul) Snader; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Kreider Hoober; and preceded in death by a brother, Aaron Hoober.
Mervin was a member of Forest Hills Mennonite Church. He was retired from farming and sanitation services. Mervin especially enjoyed family gatherings, trips with his hunting club friends and family beach vacations.

GOSHEN - Esther Hoover’s life on this earth ended as her singing career in heaven began Wednesday, March 1.
She was born Aug. 26, 1938, the youngest of 10 children born to Clayton and Maude Rheinheimer, in Scott, Ind.
Both preceded her in death along with an infant sibling, Frances. Being the youngest, she was teased mercilessly by six older brothers, Al, Floyd, Maynard, Ivan, John Rheinheimer, all deceased and Ernie Rheinheimer, of New Paris. Loved and protected by two sisters, Pauline Schrock and Lois Blosser both deceased.
A great-granddaughter, Macy Lehman, preceded her in death.
If she were to be remembered for one thing, she would want it to be for loving Jesus Christ.
She spent more than 20 years traveling the United States telling women about how she loved Jesus and how they could know that he loved them too.
She would start off with a couple of jokes and then she would start to tell you about her family.
She would tell you about how she married the class clown of her freshman English class, Floyd Hoover of Goshen.
How they loved, laughed, fought and worked together for 60 years.
Then becoming parents of what she would say was her greatest accomplishment; her children, three sons, Rick (Celena) Hoover, D.O. of Gautier, Miss., Steve (Janet) Hoover and Kirk (Lisa) Hoover, both of Elkhart and a daughter, Connie (Mike) Mahaffa of Goshen
She of course, would want to tell you about her grandchildren. Clayton, Katherine, Carter, Logan and Addisyn Hoover all of Mississippi, Adam (Vickie) Hoover, Martinez, Georgia, Chrissy (Chris) Tucker of Elkhart, Jessica Hoover of St. Louis, Mo., Ai Wan (Moy Tolentino) Choong of Elkhart, Julie (Andy) Lehman of Millersburg, Kim Mahaffa of Livonia, Mich., Lisa (Josh) Thompson of Elkhart, Mindy Mahaffa of Goshen and Zach Hoover of Walla Walla, Wash. Also about her great-grandchildren, Micah, Eli, Raegan and Hadie Lehman of Millersburg, Gabe and Eva Thompson of Elkhart, Ravyn Hoover of Washington and Nayali Tolentino Choong of Elkhart.
She’d be sure to tell you that she and Floyd owned many businesses; Hoover Enterprises including three laundromats, several apartment buildings and refrigeration repair.
They also owned Square Deal Tool and Die Inc. in which she sat on the board of the corporation as the secretary.
She served on the national board of Stonecroft Ministries for 22 years and was a founding member of River Oaks Community Church.
She loved her family and taught them to love each other by her example.
It is her love that will hold them together.
She was diagnosed seven years ago with early onset Alzheimer’s.
Toward the end of her life on earth, it was the great-grandchildren who could get her to open her eyes when no one else could.
There will be a visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
An 11 a.m., Saturday, March 4, memorial service will be at River Oaks Community Church.
A private family burial will be in Cornell Cemetery, Goshen.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Homestead at Greencroft, The Center for Hospice Care of Elkhart and her daily caregivers, Robin Kantz and Shauna Bailey.

INDIANAPOLIS - Frances D. (Lais) Hoover, 94, Indianapolis, formerly of Elkhart, died at 1:38 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Hoosier Village, Indianapolis.
She was born March 27, 1922, in Hubbard, Ore., to Daniel and Ellen (Egli) Lais.
She married Martin E. Hoover on May 8, 1953, in Hubbard. Martin died Oct. 29, 2002.
Surviving are a daughter, Ellen (Randall) Stoesz of Indianapolis; sons Dennis J. (Judith L. Treadway) Hoover of Mystic, Conn., Randal D. (Richard W. Ullery) Hoover of South Bend, Roger S. (Kathryn A. Hochstetler) Hoover of Fort Collins, Colo.; and seven grandchildren, Jonathan B. Hoover of Baltimore, Md., Andrew J. Hoover of Rahway, N. J., Tanya L. Balon of Melbourne, Fla., Laura J. Stoesz of Madison, Wis., David A. Stoesz of Ocean Springs, Miss., Connor M. Stoesz of Indianapolis and Simon D. Hoover of Egham UK.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Martin, and 11 sisters and two brothers, Orpha, Celestia, Lena, Mary, John, Lilly, Dorothy, Susannah, Frank, Ruth, Margie, Vera and Evelyn.
She was the last surviving member of this family.
Frances attended Hesston Academy, Hesston, Kan.; graduated from the LaJunta Mennonite School of Nursing and then graduated with a BA in nursing from Goshen College in 1953.
She was a registered nurse, retiring from Elkhart General Hospital Pediatrics Department.
Frances’ hobbies were gardening, cooking and family.
She was an active member of Sunnyside Mennonite Church until failing health took her to Indianapolis where she lived near her daughter.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m.to noon and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen and one hour prior to the 2:30 p.m. service Sunday, Jan. 15, at Sunnyside Mennonite Church, 23786 Sunnyside Ave., Elkhart.
Pastor Terry Zehr will officiate and burial will follow in Yellow Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to LaCasa, Goshen or to the Mennonite Central Committee.

Hoover, H. Jean Metzler, 89, formerly of South Annville Twp., passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. She was the wife of Rev. Abram N. Hoover with whom she would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this October 8th.
Born in Manheim on July 5, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Grace Hershey Metzler. She was a homemaker, pastor's wife, and assisted her husband on the family farm.
Jean was a 1946 graduate of Manheim High School, a member of Gingrichs Mennonite Church and the Lebanon District Sewing Circle. She was a volunteer at Philhaven Hospital and host for the Recovery of Hope program. She and her husband enjoyed traveling together and were co-hosts for various trips abroad.
Surviving are four sons, Dale L., husband of Charlotte Hoover of Lebanon, Nevin R., husband of Eileen Hoover of Annville, Dean L., husband of Mary Ann Hoover of Lebanon, Reid K., husband of Diane Hoover of Lebanon; a daughter, Karen J., wife of Edwin Copenhaver of Annville; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth, wife of Wilmer Nissley of Mt. Joy. She was preceded in death by two sisters Marian and Dorothy Metzler.
Memorial services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in Hoffer Chapel at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 N. Penryn Road, Manheim. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Gingrichs Mennonite Cemetery. He was born on March 28th, 1921 in Earl Twp. to the late Aaron B. and Anna (Huber) Hoover and was the husband of Mary S. (Bicher) Hoover.
He was a member of Springville Mennonite Church.
John was a farmer and a truck driver and he was dearly loved by his whole family.

Hoover, Kevin H., 22, of 834 Wallace Rd., New Holland died Thursday, October 12, 2017, due to injuries from a four wheeler accident. He was an excavator and mechanic.

Hoover, Laura W. Wenger, 86, of Mountville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. She was the wife of Rufus M. Hoover with whom she would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 7, 2017. Rufus loved and cared for Laura right up to the end. Laura was born at home in Warwick Twp., daughter of the late Michael N. and Jennie Steffy Wenger. She was a member of Mountville Mennonite Church where she taught Bible and Sunday school classes. She enjoyed sewing; making and sending cards; and being a devoted mother. Laura and her family lived in Sarasota, FL for 38 ½ years. It was in Sarasota where she raised her two children, Joy and Kevin. Rufus and Laura moved back to Mountville in 2002 to be closer to their children, who lived in Lancaster County.
Surviving in addition to her husband, her son: Kevin (Beth) Hoover, Lititz. Three grandchildren: Andrew, Alissa and Aidan Hoover. Siblings: Kathryn (late John) Ebersole; Bertha (Ben) Brubaker; Norman (Anna) Wenger; Mary (John) Becker; Michael (Mary) Wenger; Edna (late Melvin) Cramer; Anna (late Ron) Reimer; Paul (Elsie) Wenger; and Martha (Bob) Harnish. Numerous nieces and nephews. Laura was preceded in death by her daughter: Joy Hoover Boone who passed away in 2015. Born in East Earl, she was the daughter of the late Phares and Sarah (Zimmerman) Martin.
She was a homemaker and a member of the New Holland Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.

Miriam was a member of Springville Mennonite Church, Weaverland Con-ference.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, Martin Nolt of Ephrata; four nieces, Elaine, wife of Menno Miller of Grayson, KY, Lois, wife of Dennis Martin of Unionville, MO, Linda, wife of Vernon Hoover of Patriot, OH, Aletha, wife of Earl Sadler of Kansas, OH; a nephew, Clifford, husband of Carolyn H. Nolt of Kutztown; a nephew-in-law, Leon Leinbach of Kempton; 38 great-nieces and nephews; 28 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Horst, Alice E. Esbenshade, 90, formerly of East Earl, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center. She was the loving wife of J. Earl Horst, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2010.
Born in Earl Township, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Anna (Martin) Esbenshade.
She was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church and a homemaker. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking and baking, flower and vegetable gardening, and needlework.

Horst, Anna Mary Esbenshade, 89, of Ephrata, formerly of East Earl, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Fairmount Homes.
Born in Earl Twp., she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Anna (Martin) Esbenshade. She was married 70 years on January 18 to David S. Horst.
Anna Mary was a homemaker most of her life but she also worked for 16 years at Shady Maple Farm Market in the produce department, and as a waitress in the New Holland area for many years.
She was a member of Lichty's Mennonite Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and in the sewing circle. She also enjoyed collecting antique dishes and glassware, quilting and needlework, and going to the mountains with her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband are five children, Elaine, married to Glenn Newswanger of Myerstown, Sharon, married to Henry Zimmerman of Narvon, David, married to Sharon (Adams) Horst of Honey Grove, Darlene, married to Edwin Ringler of East Earl, and Linda, married to Don Weaver of New Holland; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Martin Horst), married to Clarence Fasnacht of Leola, and a sister, Margaret Wyble of New Holland.
Preceding her in death is a son, Clifford Horst; a granddaughter, Heidi Weaver; five sisters, Velma Weaver, Viola Buch, Bertha Martin, Alice Horst, and Helen Esbenshade; and a stepbrother, Aaron Esbenshade.

Horst, Elverta Jane Hostetter, age 87, of Harrisonburg, VA, and formerly of York, PA, passed peacefully into Heaven on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, while surrounded by her family at her home. Elverta was born on Saturday, January 4, 1930 in Gap, PA to the late Galen B. Hostetter and Susie K. (Hershey) Hostetter. In addition to her parents, Elverta is preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Leona Horst; a brother-in-law, Amos; an infant sister, Mary Hostetter; a sister, Virginia Neff and her husband, Leon; and her in-laws: Verna Delinger and her husband, Roy, and Lydia Denlinger and her husband, Martin.
Elverta’s survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Lloyd Rutt Horst; her 8 children: Mervin and Lois Horst, Darrel and Teena Horst, Gerry Horst, Sue and Arlen Kanagy, Laverne and Joan Horst, Judy and Michael Peterson, Mary and Paul Leaman, Steve and Brenda Horst; her 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her 3 sisters: Eleanor Hershey, Sarah and Richard Buckwalter, Emma and Park Ranck; her brother, Hershey and Evelyn Hostetter; and countless others.
Elverta married Lloyd R. Horst on January 4, 1950 and the two enjoyed 67 years together. They set up their homestead in York, PA, where they raised their eight children along with chickens and a large garden. She faithfully served beside her husband in church ministry for 38 years. She was a homemaker and a woman of great hospitality. Her home had an open-door policy where guests were sure to enjoy homegrown vegetables and homemade bread at her large table. She had a servant’s heart, a twinkle in her eye, and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by her whole family and all of her friends.

Horst, Lauren Benjamin, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening April 8, 2017 at the Quincy Village Nursing Center.
Born September 11, 1931 in Maugansville, MD, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Martha (Lehman) Horst. He married Betty Jane (Martin) Horst on March 21, 1953.
Lauren served as Pastor of Bethel Community Church in Warfordsburg, PA for 21 years. He had also worked at the former Maugansville Elevator and Lumber Co., he built residential homes and was a supervisor for Choice Books of Franklin County.
Lauren was a member of the North Side Mennonite Church of Hagerstown and had served as a board member for CROSS Inc. of Shippensburg. He also served on the board of the Hagerstown Rescue Mission and was an original board member of the Shalom Christian Academy of Chambersburg. Lauren served in voluntary service in Homestead, FL and while there, he started the Homestead Mennonite Church.
Surviving family, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Joyce E. Sheeler and husband, Timothy of Newville; three sons, Arnold R. Horst and wife, Julia of Greencastle, Lester D. Horst and wife, Marni of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Richard L. Horst, at home; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Maurice Horst of Chambersburg, Glenn Horst of Winchester, VA and Lowell Horst of Elizabethtown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Martin, Mary Horst; and two brothers, Nevin Horst and Amos Horst.

She was born in Upper Leacock on April 19, 1932 to the late David G. and Lizzie W. Horst.
She is survived by her husband Mervin S. Horst, son Eugene Horst married to Pamela, daughter Shirley married to Jay Enck, son David Horst married to Cheryl, six grandchildren: Tara Davis, Heather Morris, Matthew Horst, Jonathan Enck, Heidi Moore, Timothy Horst, and seven great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a sister Arlene Reiff. She was preceded in death by sisters Mildred Nolt and Florence Stauffer and a brother Marvin Horst.
She loved quilting, jigsaw puzzles, and word searches. She enjoyed camping, fishing, snowmobiling, and riding three-wheelers. She traveled to Israel, Turkey, Europe, and most of the U.S.
As a teen she worked in a garment factory. She was a homemaker and helped her husband at M.S. Horst Garage and start a church in Little Valley, NY and lived in California while her husband attended seminary.
There will be a viewing Thursday, May 4, 5:00-8:00pm at Garden Spot Village Chapel, New Holland. The funeral will be Friday, May 5 at 10:30am with a viewing at 9:30am at Christian Fellowship Church, New Holland. She will be interred in the CFC Cemetery.

TOPEKA, Ind. - Ervin D. Hostetler, 88, died on Saturday, June 3, 2017.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1929, in Elkhart County to David V. and Mary Ann (Yoder) Hostetler.
On April 23, 1953, in Honeyville, he married Lydia Raber, she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are two daughters, Joan (Allen) Wengerd, Mary Etta (Paul) Nisley; son, Marvin (Lena) Hostetler; 24 grandchildren, and 76 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Allen Hostetler; two brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. on Monday, June 5 and all day Tuesday, June 6 at the family residence, 3185 West 350 South, Topeka. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, also at the family residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Ervin Bontrager, Jr. and the home ministers. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, LaGrange.

MIDDLEBURY - Esta Hostetler, 82, of Middlebury, formerly of Midland, Michigan, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2017, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 14, 1935, in Midland, to Melvin and Luella (Short) Yoder.
On April 8, 1978, in Goshen, she married Eldon Hostetler; he died Jan. 8, 2016.
Survivors include three stepdaughters, Mary Etta Yoder of Palmetto, Florida, Ruby (Marvin) Wittmer of Goshen and LeAnn (Lamar) Hochstetler of Nappanee; three stepsons, Dale (Sharon Anderson) Hostetler of Union, Michigan, Robert (Angelika) Hostetler of Granger and Eldon (Pauline) Hostetler Jr. of Goshen; 10 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Yoder of Saginaw, Michigan and Loretta (H. Delaney) Toner of Midland; two brothers, Al (Bonnie) Yoder of Iowa City, Iowa and Merlin (Diane) Yoder of Austin, Texas; nine nieces and nephews; and 17 great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Leanna Keim; a brother, Milton Yoder; a great niece, Alexandria Vogt; and her parents.
As a young lady Esta stayed home her junior year from high school to help her mom with the new baby and household chores. She later graduated from Merrill High School with her sister, Leanna, as valedictorian of their class.
She worked as secretary for a few years at the high school before attending Eastern Mennonite College.
She worked as a secretary at MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) in Pennsylvania, at Hesston Mennonite College in Hesston, Kansas, Midland Hospital in Midland, and retired as secretary at Goshen Mennonite College, retiring in 1978.
She and her husband, Eldon, had many good times together working with their Hudson car projects, traveling, and spending time with family.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 2, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury.
Friends and family will gather for a graveside service at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
A memorial service will follow the graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at North Goshen Mennonite Church.
Services will be conducted by Pastor Mark Schloneger.

SHIPSHEWANA - Evelyn Joan Hostetler, 81, of Shipshewana, died June 21, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor in LaGrange.
She was born on March 2, 1936 to Evan and Clara (Speicher) Lambright.
On Aug. 7, 1955 she married Donald Jay Hostetler; he survives. Also surviving are two daughters, JoAnn (Ron) Bontreger, LouAnn (Rick) Sherck; two sons, Ronald (Elizabeth) Hostetler and Michael (Julie) Hostetler; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ruth (Paul) Miller, Doris (Ivan) Birky and Rachel (Lee) Troyer.
A memorial service is Sunday, June 25 at 5 p.m. at Shore Church, 7235 W 100 N, Shipshewana. Burial will take place on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Shore Cemetery. Visitation is at the church on Saturday, June 24 from 3 - 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 3:30 - 4 p.m. prior to the graveside service.

Hostetler, Kirby Dakota, precious baby son of Melton and Shayla Hostetler, was born on July 11, 2017, at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Baby Kirby was born with various medical conditions. He was born without a spleen and had cardiology vena cava, partial situs inversus, and pulmonary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD).
Kirby was a happy baby, but he needed extra and special care, which was lovingly given to him by his parents.
He passed away with a peaceful smile on his face in his mother’s arms on December 9, 2017, at the age of four months and twenty eight days old from complications of his medical conditions.
He leaves to mourn his departure his sorrowing parents and one brother, Kasen, who is almost two years old; maternal grandparents, Chris and Rosella Hostetler of Sedalia, MO; paternal grandparents, Marion and Alice Hostetler of Otterville, MO; maternal great-grandparents, Orval and Ruby Kempf of Hughesville, MO; paternal great-grandmother, Lena Hostetler of Otterville, MO; paternal great-grandparents, Eugene and Luella Kropf of Nelson, MO; seven uncles; eleven aunts; and nine cousins.
Preceding him in death are his maternal great-grandparents, Paul and Orpha Hostetler, and paternal great-grandfather, Lester Hostetler.
Kirby was born the day after his great-grandpa Lester’s funeral. It is comforting to think of them as being together so soon.
Although it is a great shock and it breaks our hearts to say good-bye to our precious baby boy, we find comfort in knowing he is safe in the arms of Jesus and is enjoying good health. We want to say, “Thy will be done,” and look forward to being reunited in heaven.
The family expresses a heartfelt thank-you for the acts of kindness shown to us, the prayers, and the expressions of sympathy during this time of sorrow.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2017 at Olive Hill A.M. Church with Paul Hostetler Jr., Rodney Knox, and Roy Kropf officiating.
Casket bearers will be Melton Hostetler, Grant Hostetler, Sherman Hostetler, Regan Hostetler, and Dane Hostetler.

Hostetler, Lester Roy was born October 16, 1927, at Shelbyville, IL.
He was married April 9, 1950, to Magdalena Catherine Hostetler. To this union was born five sons and five daughters: Larry and wife Susie of Ravendar Springs, AR, Darlene, Mrs. Douglas Christner, of Warm Springs, AR, Raymond and wife Ruth Ann, of Pocahontas, AR, Marvin and wife Viola, of Otterville, MO, Lyla (deceased), Emily, Mrs. Frank Kempf, of Mena, AR, Delbert and wife Kathy, of Otterville, MO, Corene Mrs. Luke Knox, of Sedalia, Judith, Mrs. Lester Kempf, of Ravendar Springs, AR, Marion and wife Alice, of Otterville, MO; 74 grandchildren and 137 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and one sister.
Lester and his family moved to the Otterville area from Arkansas in May of 1986.
He peacefully passed away at his home on July 7, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 10, at Olive Hill Amish-Mennonite Church near Sedalia.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at the Olive Hill Amish-Mennonite School.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Hostetler, Marvin

Marvin Hostetler, 56, of West Des Moines, died peacefully joining his Savior, Jesus Christ, in heaven above on August 8, 2012. During his illness with pancreatic cancer he was surrounded by family and friends.
Marvin was born in Ary, Kentucky to Dorothy and Sam Hostetler. He graduated from North High, attended Hesston College, and graduated from Goshen College and Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries. He worked his way through school by siding houses.
Marvin met Donnita Payne while both were attending Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries in Elkhart, IN. They were married May 28, 1983 at Pulaski Mennonite Church, Pulaski, IA.
Marvin graduated from seminary in 1985 and began pasturing congregations. Marvin co-pastored First Mennonite Church, Lincoln, NE, with Donnita for 6 ½ years. He was an interim pastor at St. John's United Church of Christ in Omaha, NE for 6 months. He was called to Wichita, KS where he pastored First Church of the Brethren for 11 ½ years. He was called to Wellman, IA where he pastured Wellman Mennonite Church for 5 ½ years. He was an interim pastor at Zion Mennonite Church in Donnellson, IA for 3 months.
Marvin and his family moved to Des Moines, IA where Marvin continued to work on his on a book about being missional people in our world. He was employed at Wal-Mart until this disease made work impossible.
Marvin was devoted to his wife, daughter, son and grandson. He enjoyed wood working, working with Black Angus cattle. He also was a mediator for Interchurch Ministries of NE during the farm crisis.
Marvin is survived by Donnita, his wife; Rachel Sterling, daughter; Josh, son; and Luke Sterling, grandson all of West Des Moines. He is survived by his siblings Don (Ruth) Hostetler, Goshen, IN; Deloris (Clifford) Zehr, St. John's MI; Glen (Julie) Hostetler, Wakarusa, IN; Gerald Hostetler, Louisville, KY; Debra Hochstetler, Bremen, IN; Willie (Kim) Hostetler, Elkhart, IN.
Marvin is survived by Donald and Lydia Jean Payne, parents-in-law of Keosauqua, IA; sister-in-law Debra (Roger) Knapp, Bloomfield, IA; brother-in-law Daniel (Crystal) Payne of Pulaski, IA; 22 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Dorothy Hostetler and Ronald Zehr, nephew.
Marvin will be deeply missed by his family and friends but we rejoice in the reality that his Savior, Jesus Christ, welcomed him into God's presence for eternity.

Hostetler, Mary Edna Derstine, 90, of Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN died January 20, 2017 at the same place. She was born October 3, 1926 at Souderton, PA to David D. and Mabel (High) Swartley Derstine
Surviving are children, Debra Dietrich; and Lisa Hostetler-Steppe (Gil); one grandchild; two sisters Thelma Swartzendruber; and Naomi (Arlin) Hunsberger; and a brother, Joe (Rachel) Cressman.
A daughter, Karen Hostetler and two brothers, Howard Swartley and David Derstine preceded her in death.

Hostetler, Pamela K. Willems, 59, of Hesston, Harvey Co., KS died September 30, 2017 at the same place. She was born May 9, 1958 at Detroit, Wayne Co., MI to Leo and Edna (Dirks) Willems. On March 10, 1979 at Hesston she was married to Donnie Hostetler, who survives.
Surviving are her mother; children, Charissa (Chad) Robertson of Lawrence, KS, and Ryan Hostetler of Roeland Park, KS; two grandchildren, and two sisters, Sharon (Greg) Fast of Littleton, CO, and Lori (Paul) Westhoff of Glenwood Springs, CO.
Her father preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held October 5, 2017 at Hesston Mennonite Church, Hesston, KS with burial in Eastlawn Cemetery, Hesston.
Hostetler, Philip Scott
Aug. 2, 1961 - March 1, 2017
GOSHEN - Philip Scott Hostetler, 55, went home to be with the Lord on March 1, after declining in health for the past six months.
He was born on Aug. 2, 1961, to Alvin and Goldie (Hummel) Hostetler in Goshen.
Philip attended Horizon Learning Center in Elkhart. He was an athlete in the Special Olympics, and in 1978 his basketball team won the State Championship.
He graduated in 1979 and began working for ADEC Industries. In 1988, Philip became the first person to donate money to the Mennonite Disabilities Committee toward Merimna Homes, a Christian long-term care facility for adults with developmental challenges.
When the first group home opened at 1514 College Avenue, Philip became a resident. He lived there for 17 years.
From 1979 through 2006, he worked for ADEC Industries and actively participated in Project Promise (Mennonite Disabilities Committee). During those years, he enjoyed studying the Bible and sharing the gospel, acting the part of Joseph in Christmas plays, being in a bell choir, playing the organ and recorder, camping, canoeing, and riding bicycle.
He moved to the home of his sister in 2006 and to Greencroft Healthcare in 2008.
Philip loved the Lord Jesus Christ and would boldly ask people if they were Christians. He often prayed for others and people came to him to ask for prayer. He spent many hours in his room preaching and reading the Bible and had many scriptures memorized. Philip was a member of Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship and faithfully attended services at Greencroft Healthcare.
Philip dreamed of becoming a preacher, a clown, a police officer, a firefighter, a lighthouse keeper, a weatherman, a Christian cowboy, and an American hero. He was always ready to help others. He loved being with people, entertaining, and teasing. In his later years, he enjoyed participating in a Bible study at Greencroft, crafts, singing, crowing like a rooster during morning exercises, coloring, the weather, and anything to do with cowboys.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gloria Joyce Hostetler.
He is survived by two sisters, Caroll Beall of Warsaw and Mari (Kim) Glick of Goshen; seven nephews and nieces; and 16 great nephews and nieces.
He had many friends, and the staff and residents at Greencroft Healthcare considered him to be their little brother. He will be greatly missed, but he is finally with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Family and friends may call Friday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 5 - 7 p.m. at the Meeting House in Greencroft Healthcare. Burial will be at the Townline Cemetery, Shipshewana at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 11, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. also at the Meeting House. Will Schieler will officiate.

Robert Hostetler, 87, of Richland Center, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Gundersen Medical Center in LaCrosse.
He was born in Shelbyville, Illinois on September 1, 1929 to Ova and Clara (Unzicher) Hostetler. He married Virginia Kropf on Dec. 18, 1949. They lived in Tampico, Illinois for a time. In 1962, they moved to Muscoda. In 1998, they moved to Richland Center area.
He is survived by his wife: Virginia of Richland Center; 4 sons: Mervin (Ila) of Brownsville, Oregon, Roger (Elaine) of Creston, Iowa, Galen (Donna) Richland Center, and Darwin (Eunice) of Richland Center; 3 daughters: Larita (Clifford) Kauffman of Creston, Iowa, Angie (Jay) Kauffman of Richland Center, and Dawn (Steve) Schrock of Richland Center; 43 grandchildren, and 60 great grandchildren; 1 brother: Clifford (Eunice) Hostetler of Berryville, Arkansas; and 2 sisters: Naomi (Eldon) Shrock of Berryville, Arkansas and Sadie (Edward) Headings of Creston, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents (including his step mother Mary), 1 infant son: Daryl; 1 grandson: Norman; and 3 brothers: Andy (Ruth), John (Leona), and Sam (Jean); and 3 sisters: Alice (Amos Kropf), Mable (Joseph Garretson), and Ruth (Earnest Blosser).
Funeral services will be held 10 AM on Thursday, June 29, at the Pleasant Valley Amish Mennonite Church at Muscoda. GOSHEN - Ruby F. Hostetler, 101, of Goshen, passed away Monday, April 24, at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born July 16, 1915, near Middlebury, to Orla and Anna (Coffman) Kalb.
Her father died when she was six months old and her mother died when she was six years old. Ruby was raised by her maternal grandparents, Daniel and Sarah Coffman.
On April 14, 1934, she married Clifford E. Hostetler in Topeka. He died Aug. 20, 2008.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Jim) Friesen of Westminster, South Carolina; a son, Clair (Naomi) Hostetler of Goshen; three grandchildren, Craig (Carol) Stephens of Peachtree City, Georgia, Michelle (Tom) Stroup of Millersburg and Chris (Tracey) Hostetler of Johnston, Iowa; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a half sister, Vesta Stroman.
Clifford and Ruby were lifelong farmers in the New Paris area and members of Waterford Mennonite Church.
A Monday, May 1, graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m., in Forest Grove Cemetery, Middlebury.

Samuel David Hostetler, beloved husband of Jean (Baker) Hostetler, was born on April 7, 1936, to Ova and Mary (Kropf) Hostetler at Shelby CO, IL.
He passed away unexpectedly on April 19, 2017 at the age of 81 yrs, 12 days, at Hillcrest Rehab in Harrison, AR, after being there 2 weeks for therapy.
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in his youth and was baptized, being a faithful member of the Bethel AM Church until his death. On Sept 16, 1976 he was ordained to the office of Deacon, and on Sept 21, 1986 he was ordained Bishop of Bethel Amish Mennonite Church, Berryville, AR. He faithfully fulfilled his calling as long as his health permitted.
On May 13, 1956 he was united in marriage to (Irma) Jean (Baker) Hostetler, dau of Harley and Esther Baker at Fairfield AM Church, Tampico, IL, sharing the joys and sorrows of married life for almost 61 years. This union was blessed with 8 children, 3 sons, Lowell, Leland (and wife Evelyn, deceased), Dale and wife Debbie, all of Berryville, 5 daughters, Linda and husband Ray Hostetler, Omaha, TX, Janet and husband Sam Kropf, Green Forest, Joanne and husband Dan Hostetler, Mena, AR, Rose and husband Leon Kropf, Berryville, Beth and husband Neil Shrock, Berryville. Also surviving are 44 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Robert and wife Virginia, Richland Center, WI, Clifford and wife Eunice, Berryville, brother-in-law Ernest Blosser, Tampico, IL, sister-in-law Ruth Hostetler, Clarksville, AR, sister-in-law Leona Hostetler, Buffalo, MO, 2 sisters, Sadie and husband Edward Headings, Lorimor, IA, Naomi and husband Eldon Shrock, Green Forest.

Hostetter, Amos N., 90, of Mohnton, died of natural causes on Monday, December 11, 2017 at his home.
Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Lydia (Nolt) Hostetter. His wife, Climena (Good) Hostetter, died Nov. 27, 2004.
Amos was a dairy farmer most of his life and he also owned and operated Goods Lawn and Garden at Goods Store in East Earl for a time. He also was a member and served as a minister at Honey Brook Mennonite Church.
Surviving are 12 children, H. Joseph, married to Betty (Eberly) Hostetter of Arcadia, FL, Lucy G., widow of the late Earl Hege of Chambersburg, Marie G., married to Enos M. Shank of Hanover, A. Eugene, married to Carol (Hege) Hostetter of Spring Run, Susie E., widow of the late Paul Mack of Sunbury, J. Earl, married to Thelma Jean (Baer) Hostetter of Aspers, Lois E., married to Lamar H. Nolt of Lititz, J. David, married to Linda W. (Zimmerman) Hostetter of New Holland, Daniel G., married to Patricia (Derstine) Hostetter of Morgantown, J. Mark, married to Sharon (Zimmerman) Hostetter of Mohnton, C. Faye, married to J. Ray Auker of Denver, and John E., married to Teresa (Phipps) Hostetter of Ephrata; 102 grandchildren; 279 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, James W. Burkholder of Tamaqua.

Hostetter, Harvey M., 94, of Lititz, formerly of Manor Township, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, December 29, 2017 at Landis Homes Retirement Community. He was the husband of the late Mary L. Hollinger Hostetter with whom he shared 64 years of marriage before she passed away in 2010. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Christian M. and Stella Mowrer Hostetter. He was self-employed for many years as a poultry and egg farmer. Later he worked at Lancaster Container, Washington Boro, and for Keagy's Produce Market. Mr. Hostetter was a life-time member of Habecker Mennonite Church. He and Mary enjoyed volunteering at Teen Missions in Merriott Island, Florida; the Re-Uzit Shop, Columbia; the Mennonite Home; and Landis Homes. Harvey made friends wherever he was and will be remembered for his friendly spirit and sense of humor.
He will be lovingly missed by his family. Three daughters: Helen, wife of Glenn C. Hershey, Gordonville; Carolyn, wife of Gerald E. Martin, Ephrata; and Kathy, wife of Douglas W. Mast, Ephrata. Daughter-in-law: LuAnn Hostetter, Mountville. Nine grandchildren: Corinne (Mike) Denlinger; Dwayne (Viviana) Hershey; Jason (Kimberlee) Hershey; Tim Hershey; Angie Martin; Darren (Jewel) Martin; Ryan (Carissa) Martin; Gretchen (Jon) Thomas; and Josiah Mast. Twenty great-grandchildren. One great-great-granddaughter. Four sisters-in-law: Jean Hostetter; Ruth Hollinger; Kay Hollinger; and Lois Hollinger. One brother-in-law: Willard Stauffer. He was preceded in death by one son: David E. Hostetter. Infant daughter: Linda Hostetter. Siblings: Elizabeth Nissley; Dora Heisey; Miriam Breneman; Esther Myer; Mary Lefever; and twin brother, Harold Hostetter.
The Funeral Service will be held at WEST Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543 on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. Private Interment in Habecker Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call at the WEST Bethany Chapel from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Houtz, Kenneth H., 79, of Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN died March 3, 2017 at the same place. He was born November 25, 1937 at Lebanon, Lebanon Co., PA to Harry and Thelma Houtz. On April 13, 1968 at Harper, KS he was married to Judy Unruh, who survives.
Surviving are children, Debra (James) Powell, Goshen, IN; and Jenifer (Bob) Fake, Jonestown, PA; two grandchildren, and siblings, Barbara (Joe) Smith, Ephrata, PA; Donna (Tom) Roth, Ephrata, PA; and Rick (Sandi) Houtz, Newark, DE.
He attended Waterford Mennonite Church and was a member of Lions Club and the American Legion. He volunteered at Greencroft, at Goshen Hospital as a Red coat and with AARP tax service.
Memorial services were held April 1, 2017 at Waterford Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN.
Huber, Erma M. Stoner, 87, of Lancaster, died at the Mennonite Home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. She was the wife of the late J. Elwood "Woody" Huber, who died in 2012.
A homemaker, she was also the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Huber's Service Center.
Erma enjoyed gardening, flowers and traveling. She was a member of Millersville Bible Church.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Rutt) Stoner. She is survived by a son, Rodney L. married to Karen (Wimer) Huber of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Lindy Musser, Rodney Huber II and Tammy Martin, and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joanne Herr of New Providence and Violet Mowrer of Lancaster, and a brother, John D. married to Martha Stoner of Leola. She was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Miller.
There will be a viewing on Monday, February 6, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the Bachman Funeral Home, 7 South Decatur Street, Strasburg, PA. The funeral is 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Art Hart will be officiating, with interment in Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery to follow.

Hunsberger, Mary Ellen Bast, 88, of Lansdale, PA died April 10, 2017 at Grand View Hospital. She was born October 16, 1928 at Wellesley, Ontario, Canada to George, III, and Mary (Streicher) Bast. On June 1, 1968 she was married to Richard R. Hunsberger, who was born May 23, 1929 and survives.
Surviving are a son, Steven and Charlotte Hunsberger, three grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Darlene Bast.
Her siblings, Catherine Bast, Anna Mae Bast, and George Bast IV, preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held May 1, 2017 at Souderton Mennonite Homes, Souderton, PA with burial in Blooming Glen Mennonite Church Columbarium, Blooming Glen, PA.
Hurst, Anna Mary Good, 82, of East Earl, died after a lengthy illness Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Frank B. Hurst, whom she married on February 26, 1955 and shared over 61 years of marriage. Frank died January 11, 2017.
Born December 1, 1934 in Earl Township, Lancaster County, Anna Mary was a daughter of the late Samuel H. and Frances S. (Good) Good.
Anna Mary was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

Hurst, wife of Dennis, Denver PA; one brother: John Good Ephrata, PA; five sisters: Cathryn Martin wife of Elam L., Denver, PA, Eva Burkholder wife of Frank W., East Earl, PA, Lydia Martin wife of Lloyd M., East Earl, PA, Vera McEllhenny wife of the late Edmond, Ephrata, PA, Esther Martin wife of Edwin Z., Denver, PA; 29 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.

Hurst, Frank B., 82, of East Earl, died unexpectedly Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his home. He was the loving husband of Anna Mary (Good) Hurst, whom he married on February 26, 1955 and shared over 61 years of marriage.
Born June 28, 1934 in Earl Township, Lancaster County, Frank was a son of the late Frank M. and Lydia W. (Burkholder) Hurst.
Frank was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference. He retired from Goods Store after working 49 years in the Men's Apparel Department.
In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by five children: Wilmer G. Hurst, husband of Joyce (Weaver), Richland, PA, Lois A. Zimmerman (with whom he resided), wife of Elmer, East Earl, PA, Ray G. Hurst, husband of Betty (Zimmerman), Mifflinburg, PA, Karen G. Zimmerman, wife of Marvin, Oakland Mills, PA, and Susan G. Hurst, wife of Dennis, Denver PA; two brothers: Paul B. Hurst, husband of Anna Mary (Weaver), Ephrata, PA, and Ivan B. Hurst, husband of Mary (Martin), Ephrata, PA; two sisters: Lydia B. Hoover, wife of the late Ivan, Stevens, PA, and Alta B. Martin, wife of Stanley, Ephrata, PA; 29 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Esther (Burkholder) Hurst, five siblings: Noah B., Emma B., Katie B., Mary B., and Esther B., and 2 great-grandchildren.
