Esther L. Cender, 93, Goshen died 12:10 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Greencroft Healthcare. She was born July 16, 1929, in Goshen, to Arthur & Lucille (Hess) Berkey. On June 27, 1953, she married Mahlon Cender and he died November 10, 1999.
Surviving are a son, Jonathan (Hiromi Yamazaki-Cender) Cender of Koloa, Hawaii, daughters, Judy (Eli) Saylor, Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Beth (Jeff Yarmen) Cender of Fairbanks, Alaska, Jeanine (Rodney) Kaufman, Goshen, 6 grandchildren, Isaac (Toni) Saylor, Ben (Heidi) Saylor, Erin Saylor, Michelle (Scott Wilkinson) Kaufman, Krista (Josh Hertzler) Kaufman, Luke (Olga Meza-Vega) Kaufman, 7 great-grandchildren, Malakai, Shiloh, Cypress, Violet, Avery, Hazel, Owen, and one on the way.
Preceding her in death are her parents, sister, Norma Miller and a brother, Weldon Berkey.
Esther graduated from Goshen College in 1953. She was employed at Moyer Public Library in Gibson City for over 17 years and served as the head librarian for 8 of those years. They were active members of the East Bend Mennonite Church in Fisher, Illinois, before moving to Goshen. Esther was a homemaker and a member of Waterford Mennonite Church. She enjoyed reading, traveling, baking and making homemade ice cream. Esther volunteered at Greencroft and the Archives of the Mennonite Church.
A memorial service and burial at Hess Cemetery will be at a later date.

Charles, Dwayne
October 30, 1946 - February 10, 2023
Dwayne Charles, 76, of Denver, Pennsylvania, went from his life here on earth to his heavenly home on February 10, 2023. Dwayne was born on October 30, 1946, the son of H. Raymond and Anna Lois (Bucher) Charles of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He married Dorothy (Dottie) Ressler in 1980.
Dwayne excelled in serving others. He was a faithful member of the Chestnut Hill Mennonite Church. He was always looking for ways to be helpful on the family farm, in his home where he was "the incessant put-awayer," and by mowing community lawns, volunteering at the West Hempfield Fire and Rescue in Silver Spring, driving school buses, stocking shelves in Turkey Hill stores, and cleaning the Brunner pipe organ workshop.
Dwayne was preceded in death by both parents, an infant brother, Delbert, and his wife, Dottie.
Dwayne is survived by his sisters, Linda Byler and her husband Philip of Charleston, West Virginia, and Twila Jean Leichty and her husband, Paul, of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and their children, none of whom lived nearby. He was privileged to enjoy the companionship of his aunt, Anna Ruth Jacobs, and her children of Lancaster County.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Sonlight River Brethren School, Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. Reception will follow.
In memory of Dwayne, contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee for earthquake relief in Syria and Turkey.
Charles, Fannie Mae Landis
May 1, 1932 - July 19, 2023
Fannie Mae Landis Charles, 91, 125 S. Donerville Road Lancaster, PA 17603 passed on to be with Jesus Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Landis Homes. Born in West Lampeter Township, she was the daughter of the late Sanford and Hettie Herr Landis. She was the loving wife of 22 years to Pastor Paul K. Charles and was known to many as Aunt Fannie.
She loved to sing, and her smile was always evident. Above all, she loved Jesus and expressed that through her genuine love for people. She was well known for quilting and crocheting afghans. She was a member of Mellinger Mennonite Church where she taught girls Sunday School and summer Bible School classes. She enjoyed traveling and served on mission trips to New York City.
She was employed by Central Market, Erza Martin Meats and retired from Farmers Supply after 25 years of service.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Landis Homes for their care and support of Fannie.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her step children, Lois A. wife of the late John S. Blake; Ellen M. Aronson; Miriam L. Hubbard; Dorothy L. wife of Timothy Webster; Mary J. wife of Andrew Radesky; Nancy L. wife of William Rexroad; Paul E. husband of Marilyn Charles; David L. husband of Lynda Charles; Carl L. husband of Mary Charles; 19 step grandchildren; 34 step great-grandchildren; 1 step great-great-granddaughter and brother John H. husband of Kathryn Landis. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy H. Charles former wife of 48 years of Paul, I. Elizabeth Breneman, brothers David H. Landis, Sanford H. Landis, stepson Mervin L. Charles and step granddaughter Melissa Rexroad.
Funeral services will be held at the Mellinger Mennonite Church, 1916 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602 on Tuesday July 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Cloyd and Pastor Roger Weaver officiating. Friends may view at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be private in Habecker Mennonite Cemetery.

Sanford Christophel, 87, of Goshen died Friday, December 15, 2023 at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born July 18, 1936 at home in Clarksville, Michigan to Harold and Ruth (Kauffman) Christophel. They preceded him in death.
On August 7, 1960 he married Miriam Burkholder.
She survives along with three children, Karen (David) Hostetler of Goshen, Douglas (Kristine) Christophel of Bridgewater, Virginia, and Daniel Christophel of Grantsville, Maryland; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Other survivors include his six siblings, Robert (Lorraine) Christophel of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Eldon Christophel of Battle Creek, Michigan, David (Carol) Christophel of Zealand, Michigan, H. Levon Christophel of Sarasota, Florida, Joseph (Linda) Christophel of Goshen, and Paul (Brenda) Christophel of Hesston, Kansas.
Sanford was a generous and giving man with what he had. He worked in agricultural farming and milking dairy cows. He was active in various local farming organizations.
He and Miriam supported many overseas missions. He was active in the churches he attended.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday, December 28 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service all at Siloam Fellowship, 61616 County Road 35, Goshen. Pastor Vern Hostetler will officiate.
Cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.

Howard William Chupp, 63 of Arcola, Illinois passed away at 8:40 A.M. on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the Dennis Yoder residence, 578 E CR 200 N in rural Arcola, Illinois. Bishop Daniel Rocke will officiate. Burial will be in the Bagdad Cemetery in rural Arcola, Illinois. Visitation will be held any time after 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at the Dennis Yoder residence. And any time after 10:00 A.M. on Monday, January 16, 2023. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Howard was born on January 23, 1959 in Tuscola, Illinois, a son of Jacob D. and Alta W. (Miller) Chupp. He married Dorothy M. Yoder on October 20, 1983, in Arcola, Illinois. They lived in Holy Matrimony 39 years, 2 months, and 25 days.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; five children, Daniel William Chupp and his wife Leanna Kay (Otto) of Arcola, IL, Marlin Eugene Chupp and his wife Marnita (Otto) of Arcola, IL, Treva Arlene Schrock and her husband Merlin of Tuscola, IL, Karen Elaine Schrock and her husband Gerald of Tuscola, IL, and Marilyn Kay Chupp of Arcola, IL; twelve grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Ella Arlene Yoder of Arcola, IL; seven siblings, Ray Chupp and his wife Delilah (Schrock) of Arthur, IL, Irene Miller and her husband Levi William of Arthur, IL, Nelson Chupp and his wife Carolyn (Yoder) of Arcola, IL, Martha Ann Brenneman and her husband Glenn of Arthur, IL, Marvin Chupp and his wife Mary (Yoder) of Arcola, IL, Katie Schrock and her husband Nathan of Tuscola, IL and Reuben Chupp and his wife Carolyn (Miller) of Arthur, IL.

Howard was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He operated a buggy shop for many years.

Laura Jean Chupp, age 69 of Bremen, passed away at 1:25 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at South Bend Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born December 11, 1953 in Marshall County to Joseph J. and Sarah (Miller) Chupp.
Laura had worked for Home Health Care. She was a lifetime area resident. Laura formerly attended North Main Mennonite Church. She loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and gardening.
Surviving is her sisters, Mary Jane Miller, Nappanee, JoAnn (Karl) Miller, Nappanee, Nancy (Larry) Schwartz, New Paris, Fern (Darrell) Yoder, Chouteau, OK; brothers, Bill (Candi) Chupp, Lawrenceville, GA, Alan (Tammy) Chupp, Bristol; 10 nieces and 6 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Monday, October 23rd at Berea Christian Fellowship, (504 N. Main St., Nappanee). Burial will follow in Hepton Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Laura’s name can be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Verna Chupp 88, of Arcola, Douglas County, Illinois passed away at 3:00 AM on Friday, March 31, 2023 at her residence.

Burial will be in the Yoder Cemetery in rural Arthur, Illinois. Verna was born on November 20, 1934 in Arcola, Illinois. She was a daughter of Jerry and Elizabeth (Mast) Otto. She married Melvin L. Chupp on October 9, 1958 in Arcola, IL, they lived in Holy Matrimony for 64 years.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin Chupp of Arcola, IL, six children, Phillip Chupp of Arcola, IL, Ernest Chupp and his wife Brenda of Mattoon, IL, Dorothy Kaufman and her husband Merle of Arthur, IL, Kenneth Chupp of West Morland, TN, Allen Chupp of Tuscola, IL and Louise Chupp of Arcola, IL, 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and three sisters-in-law, Ida Mae Otto, Mary Otto, and Martha Otto.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and nine brothers, Henry, Edward, Albert, Freeman, Simon, Fred, Melvin, Jerry Jr., and Alvin Otto, and one sister, Clara.
Verna was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Coblentz, Sarah A. Miller
February 4, 1945 - March 24, 2023
Sarah A. (Miller) Coblentz 78, beloved of Andy Coblentz, of 8158 CR 192, Holmesville, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 7:05 PM at the Summa Health Akron City Hospital from a massive stroke the day before. Sarah was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church. She made many quilts throughout her lifetime and also enjoyed card-making. She was born on February 4, 1945 to the late Jonas J. and Katie S. (Yoder) Miller. On March 11, 1965 she married Andy R. Coblentz who survives.
To this union were born 11 children, Betty (Henry) Miller of Millersburg, Jonas (Effa) Coblentz of Millersburg, Verna (Henry) Yoder of Bonners Ferry, ID, Ruth (Willis) Hershberger of Berlin, Naomi (Allen) Troyer of Holmesville, Vernon (Mary) Coblentz of the home, Allen (Sarah) Coblentz of Holmesville, Mary Ann (David) Miller of Wooster, Leroy (Marilyn) Coblentz of Millersburg, Eli (Emma) Coblentz of Fresno, Henry (Nettie) Coblentz of Loudonville; 62 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Andy (Katie) Miller of Apple Creek, Levi (late Sarah) Miller of Apple Creek, Mary (late Christ) Miller of Baltic, Edna (John) Yoder of Fredericksburg, Katie Ann (Raymond) Hershberger of Holmesville, Fannie (Ben) Yoder of Fredericksburg, Ivan (Ella) Miller of Wooster, Iva (Joe) Miller of Fredericksburg, Jonas Jr. (Erma) Miller of Fredericksburg, Betty (Wayne) Schrock of Charm; sister-in-law, Katie (late Simon) Miller of Fredericksburg; many nieces and nephews; as well as many cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Allen E. Troyer residence, 7671 TR 565, Holmesville, on Monday, March 27, at 9:00 AM with Bishop Crist Wengerd officiating. Paula Crider, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died Dec. 26, 2023, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, Va. Mrs. Crider had been hospitalized with pneumonia since Dec. 12. She was 78.
She was born Paula Elaine Basye on Jan. 26, 1945, at her parents’ residence in Mathias. She was the third child of the former Ruth Sherman and Price Basye.
She and Mr. Crider were wed on June 5, 1966, at Salem Mennonite Church in Baker, W.Va. They were married for 48 years until Mr. Crider’s death in 2015.
After their marriage, they relocated to Broadway, Va. While there, the couple was blessed with five daughters, all who survive. They are Natalie Price and husband, Mike, of McDonald, Tenn., Tamera Hamilton and husband, Edwin, of Mathias, Corinna Dove and husband, James, of Mathias, Melissa Casto and husband, Jeff, of Mathias and Revonda Sweet and husband, Aaron, of Mount Crawford, Va. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Brandon Price, Casey Hamilton, Megan Crider Robinette, Isaiah Casto, Julia and Hannah Sweet; one great-grandchild, Grayson Robinette and seven step-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by both her parents; a sister, Imogene Basye; an infant brother, Paul Allen Basye; and a great-grandchild, Vera Robinette.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at Mathias Mennonite Church. Interment will follow at the Sherman Cemetery in Mathias. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Cripe, Richand Daniel "Dick"
September 30, 1934 - March 10 2023
Richard Daniel “Dick” Cripe, 88, of Syracuse, formerly of Goshen, passed away on March 10, 2023, at Hubbard Hill Healthcare.
He was born in Goshen, on September 30, 1934, to Forrest and Martha (Augsberger) Cripe.
At Goshen High School, Richard enjoyed playing basketball. After graduation from Bluffton University, he served in the Army in Germany until returning home to marry Carolyn Cobb on Easter Sunday in 1959, and they lived in Goshen while they raised their two children, Douglas and Jeannine. He was a member of Eighth Street Mennonite Church, was a Board member of Oaklawn, and served with numerous community organizations.
Richard was the President of Turtle Top, a family-owned business now in its fifth generation of family management. His love of sports continued for many years as he played golf, enjoying many outings with friends and family.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Cripe, his parents, and twin great grandsons.
Richard is survived by two children, Douglas Cripe of Elkhart, and Jeannine (Phillip) Tom of Middlebury; four grandchildren, Shane (Kerry) Tom of Elkhart, Jonathan Cripe of Washington DC, Cassie (Jonathan) Clevenger of Tampa, Florida, and Rebekah (Brian) O’Donnel of O’Fallon, Illinois; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Clevenger; and a brother Robert (Betty) Cripe of Goshen.
Visitation will occur at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, on Monday, March 13, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with services by Rev. Brenda Sawatzky Paetkau on Tuesday, March 14, at 1:00 p.m., at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, with visitation one hour preceding the service.

Darity, Marilyn Martin
January 30, 1950 - January 31, 2023
Marilyn Martin Darity of Kinzers, PA, passed peacefully in her home after a brief illness, surrounded by family and friends on January 31st, the day after her 73rd birthday. Marilyn was born on a cold, snowy day in Danville, PA, on January 30th, 1950, into the loving arms of her parents, Donald and Esther Martin.
She was described as an always cheerful child and spoke often of her childhood memories, growing up with her older sisters Judy and Sharon and her younger brother Donnie. A highlight was when her family made a cross-country trip touring national parks, setting up camp at night, singing and playing games on the long stretches of highway.
Marilyn was well loved by her many friends at school and at the churches where her father pastored in Shamokin, Greencastle, and Darby, PA. She attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago for two years before transferring to Florida Bible College. There she was introduced to a handsome and buff young man named Rance, who took her hand in marriage on May 3, 1975. They settled in Lancaster County where they raised their three children: Jason, Annette and Nathan.
Marilyn's greatest joys in life were her relationship with Jesus and being with her family, which extends far beyond any bloodline. In addition to being a beloved grandmother to three grandchildren, Marilyn was a cherished aunt and an "adopted" mother and grandma to many people over the years. Marilyn and her husband opened their home to a myriad of wayfarers, friends, and strangers, embracing them in hospitality and sharing their gifts of compassionate listening, wisdom, and deep acceptance.
Marilyn is predeceased by her son Jason Darity and her parents, Donald and Esther Martin. Marilyn is survived by her husband William Rance Darity, daughter Annette Garber married to Jarred Garber of Sinking Spring, son Nathan Darity married to Valerie Hess of Pittsburgh, grandchildren Dylan Garber, Jaida Garber and Eden Darity, and siblings Judy Thomas, Sharon Wilson, and Don Martin.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on February 11th at 2 PM at Ridgeview Mennonite Church. All are welcome to attend.
Donations in Marilyn's honor can be made for survivors of sex-trafficking through the work of North Star Initiative.
Davis, Abraham, Jr. (Dr.)
May 14, 1923 - November 2, 2023
Dr. Abraham Davis Jr. passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, at 100 years old at the Brunk House, Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, Harrisonburg, Va. Abraham was a resident of Harrisonburg.
Abraham was born May 14, 1923, the son of the late Abraham Davis Sr. and Everlena Dupree Davis. He outlived his siblings, Mary, Louise, Hilda, John, Leroy, James, and Everett.
On Nov. 12, 1958, Abraham married Modestine Childers and aided in raising her son, Wilkins Garrett Jr. Modestine had been widowed with her young son, Wilkins. Modestine died on Aug. 11, 1986. Abraham married Jennie Rose Hayes six months later.
Surviving are his daughter, Silena Davis of Arlington, Va.; his step-grandchildren, Kamara Garrett Cooper and husband, Derek Cooper, Adrienne Garrett, Jacqui Garrett Nesbitt and her husband, Harold Nesbitt and Christian Garrett Williams. Great step-grandchildren are Aeriel Nesbitt, Taylor Nesbitt, Brooke Nesbitt, Jaidyn Nesbitt and Duke Williams.
Abraham served in the U.S. Army in WWII in Okinawa, Japan and Marseille, France. It was in Okinawa where he became a Christian and was baptized in the Okinawa Bay. Not too long after, he was discharged.
Abraham was a very accomplished man. He graduated from Robert Smalls H.S. with a diploma; received a college degree from Vorhees University, S.C.; received a master’s from Temple University in Speech Correction; and a PhD from Indiana University in Oral Interpretations. He then was a professor at Christian Colleges such as Houghton College. Messiah College (Professor and Dean of the Urban campus), Eastern Mennonite University (First Director of the Cross-Cultural Center) and Calvin College. He also read the Creation by James Weldon Johnson among other African American Rhetoric for Mennonite Central Committee up and down the east coast.
Dr. Abraham Davis Jr. will be fondly remembered for a great husband, dad, uncle, brother, son and friend, as well as a cutting-edge academician! He made great contributions to many communities, churches and the world.
A visitation and viewing will be held at Park View Mennonite Church Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
A graveside service will held at Weaver's Cemetery Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1:00 p.m.
Following the graveside service, a memorial service will be held at Park View Mennonite Church at 2:00 p.m., which can be watched live by visiting www.pvmchurch.org.

Anthony Lynn Deputy, 57, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.
Mr. Deputy was born Aug. 19, 1965, in Harrisonburg and was a son of the late Ronald LeRoy and Lelia Esther Eberly Deputy Sr.
He enjoyed working and greeting customers at his family business, Early Equipment. He was a lifetime member of Dayton Mennonite Church.
Surviving are his siblings, Raleigh Deputy of Harrisonburg, Ron Deputy Jr. of Indian Trail, N.C., and Reba Deputy Heizer of Fairfield; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Ministers of the church will conduct a memorial service Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. at Dayton Mennonite Church.
There will be no viewing or visitation at the funeral home and burial will be held privately.

Mattie Marie Diener, 90, of Shipshewana (district: 41-2), died at 12:45 am, on Friday, December 1, at her residence. She was born on May 7, 1933, in Shipshewana, to Sam and Katie (Slabaugh) Miller. On April 5, 1956, in LaGrange, she married Jacob E. Diener, he died August 22, 2013.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen (John) Bontrager of Shipshewana, Wanda (Gary) Lambright of LaGrange; son, Kevin (Norine) Diener of Shipshewana; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, LaMar and Lyle Diener; daughter, Kathryn Diener; one grandson; her parents; two sisters, Fannie Irene Schwartz and Pollyanna Miller; brother, Ray Miller.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 3:00 pm on Friday, December 1, and all-day Saturday, December 2, at the Kenny Bontrager residence: 7555 W. 050 N., LaGrange. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Sunday, December 3, at the same residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Chris Bontrager and the home ministers. Philip J. Dintaman, 82, of Howe, died Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at his home.
Phil was born on October 19, 1940, in Sturgis, MI, to Carl and Salina (Christner) Dintaman. They preceded him in death, as did his brother, Carl Patrick, and brother-in-law, Ron Stutzman.
On August 12, 1967, he married Judy Myers, who survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Sonya and Dale Dorris of Hudson, IN; and son, Monty Dintaman of Parker, CO; his sisters, Phyllis Stutzman of Goshen, IN, Carol and Vernon Birky of Goshen, IN, Pam Dintaman of Tuscon, AZ; and his brother, Steve and Betsy Dintaman of Harrisonburg, VA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and five step-grandchildren.
Phil was a lifelong resident of LaGrange County; he bought his first farm at the age of 17. One of his most impressionable life experiences was to live and work for three years in Indonesia with Mennonite Central Committee. That time left a lasting impression on Phil’s life. After returning from Indonesia, he began driving trucks for Cain Lumber and eventually bought his own trucks and started his own company, Dintaman Grain and Lime. He ran this business until his retirement. In retirement, he enjoyed raising cattle, landscaping, and traveling the country.
He was active member of the Shore Church, Howe Lions Clubs, the Howe Volunteer Fire Department, and served as the Lima Township Trustee.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at the Shore Church, 7235 W 100 N, Shipshewana, IN 46565, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the church on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Nic Raber officiating the services.
Burial will take place in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana, IN.

Duncan, James Archer
August 7, 1937 - December 29, 2023
James Archer Duncan, 86, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at his home.
Jim was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Staunton and was a son of the late William Earl and Flossie Pearl Waits Duncan. He grew up in Washington, D.C., but after his father died, he moved back to Stuarts Draft, Va., with his mother and siblings. He met his wife at Staunton Mennonite Church at a youth group taffy pull, and on Aug. 14, 1964, he married her. His wife, Charlene Martin Duncan, survives.
Jim worked for two years with Harrisonburg Social Services before he and Charlene went to Sicily as missionaries for six years. In 1978, they returned to the States, and moved to Asheville, N.C. to help plant a church. He worked for 28 years with Choice Books and had great joy in being able to share the love of Jesus through the books he distributed.
Jim’s great passion was Jesus. The legacy he left for his family was faith in the Lord and awe for the promises found in Scripture. When he left behind his cancer-ridden body, he took his place at the wedding feast of the Lamb.
Also surviving are his children, Greg Duncan (Carin) of Youngsville, N.C., Tamara Duncan Shoemaker (Tim) of Rockingham, Va.; siblings, Phil Duncan (Janeth) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Howard Duncan (Ruth) of Staunton, Va.; and grandchildren, Eli, Sarah, and Adam Duncan, and Jordyn, Joel, and Elena Shoemaker.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, Allen Duncan, Dale Duncan, Bernie Duncan, Don Duncan, Virginia Duncan Turner, Gordon Duncan, and Paul Duncan.
Pastor Curt Stutzman will conduct a memorial service Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Weavers Mennonite Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial was held privately.

Levi N. Eash, 90, of Topeka (district: 8), died at 2:20 pm on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at his residence. He was born on August 9, 1932, in LaGrange Co, to Noah and Katie (Yoder) Eash. On April 10, 1955, in Topeka, he married Rosa Ellen Bontrager, she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are two daughters, Katie Ellen (William) Bontrager of Centreville, MI and Sara Fern (Nelson) Miller of Topeka; six sons, David Lee (Susan) Eash of Topeka, Mervin L. (Sylvia) Eash of Burr Oak, MI, Cristy L. (Lydia) Eash of Topeka, Melvin L. (Sue Ann) Eash of LaGrange, Freeman L. (Edna Fern) Eash of Millersburg, and Ernest L. (Lorene) Eash of Wolcottville; 53 grandchildren; 198 great-grandchildren; brother, John Eash of Williamsburg, IA; sister, Katie Miller of LaGrange.

Levi was a farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Clarence M. Eberly, 93, of Ephrata, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Fairmount Homes.
He was born in Stevens to the late Norman M. and Cora M. (Martin) Eberly and was the husband of the late Elsie (Martin) Eberly who passed away in 1994.
He was a member of Martins Mennonite Church.
Clarence is survived by 3 children, Henry M., husband of Alta Eberly of Reinholds, Doris M. Eberly of Reinholds, Leon M., husband of Delores Eberly of Fredricksburg, PA; 10 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Cathrine Eberly of Stevens, Floy Eberly of Stevens, Norma, wife of Norman Burkholder of Denver, and Cora, wife of Mervin Sensenig of Denver.

Mahlon W. Eberly, 90, of Denver, entered into rest on Friday, March 24, 2023, at home.
He was born July 6, 1932, in Lancaster County, son of the late Harvey B. and Lydia B. (Weaver) Eberly.
He is survived by his wife Ellen M. (Fox) Eberly. Married on February 13, 1954, they celebrated 69 years of marriage.
He was a member of Indiantown Mennonite Church, Ephrata Young Farmers, and he enjoyed singing with the Manheim Area Chorus.
Mahlon was a poultry farmer most of his life. He was a school bus driver for Cocalico School District for 38 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 children, Sharon L. Hurst (Louis) of Ephrata, Gary L. Eberly (June Nafziger) of Rathdrum, ID, and Anthony W. Eberly (Connie Balmer) of Stevens; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Anna Horning and Elva Martin; and a brother, David Eberly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Levi, Amos and Alvin Eberly; 2 sisters, Vera Zimmerman and Ruth Hurst.

Phyllis M. Brown Eby, 91, Harmony of Elkhart, IN, previously of Sebring, FL, died at 9:14 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Center for Hospice Care in Mishawaka following an extended illness.
She was born July 16, 1931, in Dayton, OH to Samuel W. and Mary Ethel (Fulton) Stewart. On November 7, 1953, she was first married to Paul N. Brown in Angola, IN. He preceded her in November of 1980 following their divorce. She then married Loren J. Eby on September 18, 1975, at the former Albright UM Church in Elkhart, IN.
She graduated from New Madison, OH High School as Valedictorian and Elkhart Business University as a medical secretary. She was a member of the Albright UM Church, Elkhart, IN, an Associate member of the First Baptist Church of Sebring, FL and member of Olive Mennonite Church in Elkhart, IN. She was employed by Roosevelt School, a homemaker, Cub Scout and Brownie Leader, Beardsley Elementary PTA officer, and City PTA officer in Elkhart. She enjoyed traveling, people, especially children, reading, genealogy, and embroidery work. She was employed for 21 years by Commercial Union Insurance Co. as Sr. Insurance Claims Adjuster, retiring to Sebring, FL in December of 1990.
She was preceded by her parents, Samuel and Mary Stewart, a brother, Glen Eugene Stewart, two sisters, Barbara Joyce Stewart and Shirley K. (Stewart) Newell, former husband, Paul N. Brown, and husband Loren J. Eby.
Surviving are her children, Jack Brown (CA), Scott Brown (IN), Dennis Brown (FL), and Teri (Brown) Kauffman (IN); four grandchildren; six step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart with a service to follow at noon. Jacob B. Eicher, 80, of 8319 S. Apple Creek Rd., Fredericksburg, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023 after a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 9, 1942 in Adams County, IN to the late Ben and Mary (Schwartz) Eicher and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He was united in marriage to Mary M. Miller on Oct. 18, 1962 and they lived in holy matrimony for 60 years.

Nancy Jean Eicher, 72, of Dundee, Passed away at 7:48 AM on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IN. She was born in Adams County., IN on September 6, 1950 to the late Benjamin E. and Mary B. (Schwartz) Eicher.
Nancy lived in Adams County until moving to Tuscarawas County where she lived for the last several years. She was a member of the Old Order Amish Church and was a care giver.
She is survived by her siblings, Barbara Ann Schwartz of Geneva, IN, Flossie Bernice Hilty of Berne, IN,Jacob E. Eicher of Fredericksburg, John B. (Susan) Eicher and Solomon J. Mary Ann Erb 75, of 6928 CR 407, Millersburg, passed away at her residence surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 9, 2023 after a period of declining health. She was born on October 2, 1947 to the late Levi C. and Clara (Miller) Miller. On May 25, 1967 she married Andy L. Erb who preceded her in death on October 16, 2011. Mary Ann was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Esbenshade, Ruby Yoder
November 10, 1935 - February 13, 2023
Ruby Yoder Esbenshade, 87, formerly of Manheim, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Landis Homes, Lititz where she has resided since 2012. She was the wife of the late J. Harold Esbenshade who died in 2014. Born in Greenwood, DE, she was the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Berkey) Yoder. She spent her last day on earth surrounded by her adoring family and passed peacefully into her heavenly home.
Ruby was a homemaker, devoted farm wife, and loving mother to her three children. A devoted Christian, she was a member of Neffsville Mennonite Church, Lancaster and also previously attended Akron Mennonite Church. Ruby and Harold met while attending Eastern Mennonite College and began their married life in Denver, CO where Harold completed his 1-W service. Ruby enjoyed golf, tennis, gardening, bird watching, puzzles, traveling, skiing, reading her Bible, cooking, entertaining and spending time with and praying for her family. She also volunteered time at Mount Joy Gift and Thrift and was instrumental in founding the Manheim chapter of Farm Women.
Surviving are three children, Jay (Rita Witmer) of Salem, OH, Denise Wenger (Jerry) of Bird In Hand, Theodore (Mary Fox) of Marietta; 12 grandchildren, Aaron Esbenshade (Suzie) of Harleysville, Kenton Esbenshade (Brianna) of Mesa, AZ, Anja Gruber (Jeremy) of Salem, OH, Clark Wenger (Corrine) of Bird In Hand, Louis Wenger (Alyse) of Des Moines, IA, Emily Fisher (T.J.) of Elizabethtown, Sally Martin (Brock) of Lancaster, Allison Knolle (Mathew) of Lancaster, Alex Esbenshade of Manheim, Olivia Esbenshade of Marietta, Alanna Esbenshade of Manheim, and Conrad Esbenshade of Marietta; 16 great-grandchildren; twin brother Roland (Dottie Glick) of Landis Homes, sister Treva Kurtz (Sam) of Sarasota, FL, and brothers Jerome (Marsha Shultz) of Sarasota, FL and Earl of Greenwood, DE.

Esh, Esther B. Zook
January 23, 1928 - March 12, 2023
Esther Z. Esh, 95, of Fairmount Homes, Ephrata, formerly of Churchtown, entered the presence of the Lord on Sunday, March 12, 2023, following a lengthy illness. She was married to Stephen S. Esh for 63 years before his passing in 2016.
Esther was the daughter of the late Amos and Rebecca Zook. She was a member of Grace and Truth Fellowship of Morgantown. Until Steve's death, Esther and Steve spent much of their time together, enjoying their backyard, playing games, camping with the extended Esh family over the Fourth of July, and wintering in Florida. An avid flower gardener, Esther loved to be outside. She would find beauty in nature and kept her flowerbeds spotless of weeds. Her love language was "acts of service." Esther served as a Red Cross volunteer for 30 years at Ephrata Hospital and was always willing to help her children with tasks around their homes. She also enjoyed quilting and cross-stitching. She made the best shoo-fly pies! With her love for music and singing, she was always in the center of the family's worship times at their get-togethers.
Esther will be missed by her children, Richard (Betty) Esh, Mervin (Loretta) Esh, Linda (Ivan) Stoltzfus, Rose (Dave) Myers, Judy (Marlin) Yutzy, and son-in-law John (Karen) Hostetler. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ruth (Elvin) Beiler. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, a daughter, Wilma Hostetler, a great-granddaughter, Awa Gemade, and a great-grandson, Drew Troyer. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Miriam (Enos) Miller, and five brothers, John, Emmanuel, Phares, Amos, and Jonas.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St., Morgantown, PA, on Friday afternoon, March 17, at 4:00 pm, with Pastor Lance Eisele officiating. The family will be available to greet friends and relatives at the church prior to the service from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. You are also welcome to join the family at the graveside at 12:00 pm on Friday in the adjoining cemetery.

J. Wilmer Eshbach, 67, of Kell, IL passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the STL University Hospital due to complications during an open heart surgery.
Wilmer was born October 11, 1955 in Lancaster, PA to the late Benjamin and Anna Eshbach. He married Wilma (Seibel) on May 22, 1976 in Lancaster, PA, then moved to Bluford, IL. Since 1987, he was a pastor of the Mennonite Church and faithful minister of the gospel. His occupation was farming for the rest of his life.

Eshleman, Joyce Elaine Deputy
December 18, 1945 - May 17, 2023
Joyce Elaine Eshleman, age 77, passed away May 17, 2023, at Mumaw House, VMRC. She was born Dec. 18, 1945. She was the daughter of Charles and Hazel Deputy.
After graduating from Eastern Mennonite High School, Harrisonburg, Va. in 1964, Joyce worked as secretary at the school for four years. Other employment included working for a State Farm Insurance agency in Albany, Ore., Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director of Mennonite Media in Harrisonburg and the first Administrative Assistant for the Graduate Counseling Program, at what was then Eastern Mennonite College. She also assisted with the starting of SONshine Ministries, a non-profit that supported Christian programming on radio stations WBTX/WLTK, Broadway, Va.
Joyce’s love for Jesus Christ was seen in the quiet way she reached out, on an individual basis, to those who needed encouragement in a one-to-one friendship.
Joyce was a member of the Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene.
On Nov. 11, 1983, she married David Merle Eshleman, who survives.
Also surviving are her children, Dustin Harrington and wife, Carrie, of Albany, Ore., Dana Harrington and wife, Nelly, of Albany, Ore., Malisa Arbogast and husband, Jeff, of Dayton and Kevin Eshleman and wife, Jill, of Tampa, Fla.; sister-in-law, Nancy Deputy of Bridgewater; grandchildren, Sydney Harrington, Charley Harrington, Paige Harrington, Sadie Harrington, Libby Harrington, Shannon Arbogast and wife, Whitney, Jared Arbogast, Tylar Eshleman, Magen Eshleman, MacKynzi Eshleman, Garrett Eshleman, Laila Eshleman and Tolee Eshelman; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Eshleman was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Deputy Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, June 5, in Detwiler Auditorium at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. Family visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at McMullen Funeral Home, 5784 Greenmount Road, Rockingham, Va. Burial will be private at Weavers Cemetery.

Leon D. Farmwald died peacefully at home on May 18, 2023, in Goshen, Indiana, at the age of 91 years and 5 days.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Esther; children Kevin (Dawn) Farmwald, Elkhart, Ind., Hal (Vicki) Farmwald, Central City, Colo., and Leanne (Rich Preheim) Farmwald, Elkhart, Ind.; grandchildren Jessica (Jordan) LaRusso, Arvada, Colo., Sarah Farmwald, Fort Wayne, Ind., Tanner (Allie) Farmwald, Milwaukee, Wisc., and Zach Farmwald, Goshen, Ind.; great-grandchildren Colton Berger, Goshen, Ind., and Oscar LaRusso, Arvada, Colo.; and brothers Stanley (Alma) Farmwald, Donald (Joyce Troyer) Farmwald, Kenneth (Ruby) Farmwald, Royce (Elva) Farmwald and Paul Farmwald. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Martha (Kaufman) Farmwald.
Leon was born on May 13, 1932, in Nappanee, Ind. He married Esther Stahly in 1955 at North Main Street Mennonite Church in Nappanee where he was a member for most of his life.
A life-long resident of Elkhart County, he owned Farmwald Lumber and Home Center, Inc. in Nappanee and was active in local and state professional and service organizations. While he was a leader of the Nappanee Chamber of Commerce, Leon was instrumental in the establishment of the Nappanee Apple Festival. He was an active member and lay leader in his church. For most of his adult life, he used his entrepreneurial and leadership skills as a board member for several non-profit organizations, most notably chairing the board of the Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale and the building committees for Amigo Centre and Little Eden Camp.
Visitation will take place May 29 from 5-8 p.m. at Waterford Mennonite Church. On Tuesday, May 30, there will be visitation from 10-11 a.m. followed immediately by a celebration of life also at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee. The family would like to thank the staff of ProMedica Hospice for their care.

Susie Farmwald, 64, New Paris, died 12:37 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023, at Goshen Hospital. She was born January 26, 1959, in Elkhart, to Richard & Patricia J. (Pippen) Wenger.
Surviving are her children, Sarah Farmwald, Fort Wayne, Zach Farmwald, New Paris, grandson, Colton Farmwald, beloved dog, Cooper, siblings, Robin Wenger, Goshen and Beth (Randy) Platz, Warsaw.
Preceding her in death are her parents.
Susie was part of the 1977 Class of Northwood High School. She was office manager at Zehr Construction for 19 years and later worked at World Missionary Press, New Paris as their volunteer coordinator. Susie was a member of Eighth Street Mennonite Church, Goshen. She enjoyed gardening and shopping, but most of all spending time with her grandson, Colton. Susie was a great cook and loved to host. In her neighborhood, she was a grandma to many of the children.

Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Eighth Street Mennonite Church, 602 S. 8th St., Goshen. Fox, Anna Mary Weaver
October 25, 1927 - November 20, 2023
Anna Mary (Weaver) Fox, 96, passed away on November 20, 2023 as a resident of Lincoln Christian Home in Ephrata. Born in Farmersville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel O. and Mary E. (Zimmerman) Weaver. She was the loving wife of the late Floyd E. Fox, whom she married on November 6, 1947. They shared 66 years of marriage until the time of his passing on January 1, 2014.
Anna Mary was a long-time member of Hinkletown Mennonite Church. She was a loving mother and wonderful homemaker. In addition to caring for her family, Anna Mary also worked for many years in a variety of jobs, but best enjoyed her later years of cleaning homes while developing friendships with the people she worked for.
Anna Mary and Floyd volunteered Chaplain services together for 15 years and also visited shut-in church members, which Anna Mary continued to do after her husband's passing. In addition to being known for her cheerful and outgoing personality, Anna Mary was best known for showing her love through the sharing of her homemade bread and baked pies for many family, friends and neighbors.
Anna Mary is survived by her children; Alta F. wife of Robert Landis, James W. husband of Jody Fox, Earl W. husband of Ruth Fox, Arlene F. wife of the late James Rudy, Floyd E., Jr. husband of Pamela Fox, Linda F. wife of Q. Leon Zwally, Larry W. husband of Cynthia Fox, Kenneth W. husband of Karen Fox, A. Mary wife of Theodore Esbenshade and Brenda F. wife of Philip Hall. Also surviving are 40 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, her daughter-in-law; Tracey Fox and brothers; John, Christian, Samuel and Aaron Weaver.
In addition to her parents and husband, Anna Mary is preceded in death by her sons; Stanley W., David W. and Gerald W. Fox, four sisters; Susie, Sarah, Esther and Margaret, and one brother; Ivan.
A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2:30 PM at Hinkletown Mennonite Church, 2031 Division Highway, Ephrata PA 17522 with Pastor Glenn Sauder officiating. A Viewing will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM on Sunday in the church. Burial in the adjoining church cemetery.

Jeanna LaChelle Fox, 45, entered into the presence of Jesus on February 3, 2023. She was born in Tulsa, OK, on October 27, 1977. She was the loving daughter of Harvey and MaryAnn Fox of Lititz. Jeanna was an incredibly gifted, loving, and caring person, and was deeply loved and admired by all those who knew her. Because of her love for Jesus, she made a difference in many people's lives. She was an exceptional aunt to all her beloved nieces and nephews, showering them with never-ending care and attention.
She will be missed tremendously by her parents, Harvey and Mary Ann, and her siblings, Christie Ginder (Merlin), Durrel Fox (Rachel), and Jaired Fox (Debbie).
She was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Bernell and Matthew.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 5 to 8 PM at the Hammer Creek Mennonite Church, 590 Hammer Creek Road, Lititz. Freed, Paul M.
August 12, 1940 - September 2, 2023
Paul M. Freed, 83, of Myerstown, PA; formerly of Franconia, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his residence.
Paul was born in Earlington, PA to the late Norman H. Freed and the late Elizabeth (Metz) Freed. He was the loving husband of Miriam (Halteman) Freed for nearly 63 years, their anniversary being September 24. He was a member of the Bernville Mennonite Church.
He was self-employed as a dairy farmer for many years and served as a minister in the Mennonite Church.
He was ordained in November of 1969 at the Royersford Mennonite Church. He was also involved with the Railroad Avenue congregation, which later joined with Royersford and became the Indian Creek congregation. Later in life, they moved to Lebanon County area, and served at Shepherd’s Fold and the Liberty Ridge boy’s program. He was ordained for the Providence congregation in 2001. He was presently serving at Bernville Mennonite Church.
He loved children very much. He enjoyed cutting firewood and mowing lawn. He put his heart into preaching and serving others.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four sons, Mark H. Freed & wife, Beth of North East, PA, Claude H. Freed & wife, Jan of Rockingham, VA, Harlan H. Freed & wife, Connie of Salem, OH, Jay P. Freed & companion, Melissa Schwenk of Wernersville, PA; his two daughters, Maryann Oberholtzer & husband, Clinton of Myerstown, PA, Shirley Landis & husband, Kevin of Green Lane, PA; his 27 grandchildren; his 23 great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Marvin Freed & wife, Eunice of Millheim, PA, Norman Freed of Bedminster, PA; and his sister, Elizabeth Mae Albanese & husband, Nicholas of Pennsburg, PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Ronald Martin; his great-grandson, Kolsen Martin; his brother, Harold Freed; and his two sisters-in-law, Pearl Freed & Pearl Freed.

Frey, Delphine Marie Kennel
March 17, 1933 - June 26, 2023
Delphine Marie (Kennel) Frey, 90, passed away in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Monday, June 26, 2023. Born March 17, 1933, near Strang, Neb., she was the eldest daughter of Ezra and Ellen (Springer) Kennel. Her father died in an auto accident when she was seven, leaving her mother with no means to support her two daughters. They lived with relatives for 12 years. When Delphine was 10, her mother moved to Archbold, Ohio, where jobs were more available to women. Delphine graduated from Archbold High School.
On Oct. 8, 1952, Delphine married Marvin Frey, a marriage they were privileged to share for over 70 years. Early in their marriage, they moved to Fort Wayne. Delphine was a lifelong member of the Mennonite Church. She and her husband last attended Maplewood Mennonite Church. After her children were in school, Delphine worked 28 years as a teacher's aide, most of them in classes for deaf children. With her husband, Delphine helped to organize and host annual retreats for families with deaf children. She also volunteered with her husband for two weeks, advocating peace as schoolmistress and schoolmaster in a restored 1830s log schoolhouse at the Penn Alps Artisan Village, Grantsville, Md. They also volunteered for two weeks as lighthouse attendants at the restored Big Sable Lighthouse at Ludington, Mich. Delphine also enjoyed traveling. Favorite sites included Tennessee's Great Smokey Mountains, North Carolina's outer Banks, Colorado's Rocky Mountain Park, Utah's variety of national parks, historic and current Indian sites in New Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Whether at home or traveling, Delphine loved family activities. Even at age 88, she helped to provide childcare for some of her great-grandchildren.
Delphine is survived by her husband; a sister, Arleta Owens; three sons and a daughter, Michael (Colleen) Frey of Royal Oak, Mich., Dayton (Gayle) Frey of Goshen, Ind., M. Drew (Tonya) Frey of Goshen, and Dawn Thomas of Fort Wayne. Survivors also include 13 grandchildren, eight in law grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Delphine was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Arlene Kennel; a daughter, Michelle (Frey) Bradford; a son-in-law, Allen Bradford; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Owens.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Maplewood Mennonite Church, 4129 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. Burial immediately following at Highland Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Maplewood Mennonite Church.

Edward G. Frey of West Montrose formerly of Elmira died peacefully on July 12, 2023 at Groves Memorial Community Hospital at the age of 86.

Loving father of Arnold and Grace Frey of Elora, Lloyd and Shirley Frey of Elmira, Ella Mae and Curtis Martin of Gowanstown, Barbara and Willard Bowman of Wallenstein, Brenda and Daryl Shoemaker of Elora, Kristine Frey of Elmira, Edward Jr. and Dianne Frey of Elmira, and Bertha and Israel Martin of West Montrose. Fondly remembered by 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Brother and brother-in-law of Seleda Frey, Peter and Doris Frey, Anna Weber, Albert and Naomi Frey, Mahlon and Isobel Frey, Ella and Amsey Weber, Erla and Cleason Weber, John Steckle, Clayton and Shirley Steckle, Elsie Horst, and David and Carol Steckle.

Frey, Esther - Passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital at the age of 74 years. Esther was the beloved wife of Willard Frey for 52 years. Dear mother of Daniel and Joyce Frey of Elmira, Steven and Charmaine Frey of Thornloe, Jonathan and Linda Frey of Elmira, and SaraJane Frey of Thornloe. Loving grandmother to 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Remembered by her brother Allan and Dorothy Frey, and sister Betty Frey. Also remembered by her in-laws Viola (the late Eugene) Martin, Edwin and Lovina Frey, Alice (the late Abner) Frey, Ada and Mervin Lichty, Melvin and Irene Frey, Edgar and Sadie Frey, Erma (the late Earl) Wideman, Florence and Menno Wideman, and Laverne and Gloria Frey. Predeceased by her parents Christian and Rebecca (Martin) Frey.

Leon R. Frey, 69, of Leola, died Thursday, June 22, 2023, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital following an illness of several months. His wife, Erma J. (Horning) Frey, preceded him in death on March 1, 2021.
Born in Leola, he was the son of the late Marlin F. Frey and Emma (Zimmerman) Frey Weber.
From the age of 16 until March 2023, Leon worked in various capacities at Evans Burial Vaults.
He was a member of Blue Ball Mennonite Church where he served many years as a trustee and was counted on for making the coffee at fellowship meals. He was also a life member of Bareville Fire Company. Leon enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are three sons: Marlin married to Yvonne (Newswanger) Frey, Ephrata, Darryl married to Holly (Zook) Frey, Leola, Curtis married to Michele (Newswanger) Frey, East Earl, seven grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Nancy Jane Frey, Lebanon.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother John Frey.
His funeral will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Blue Ball Mennonite Church with Bishop Joel Martin, Bishop Michael Zimmerman, Elmer Zimmerman, Arnold Martin, Nathan Siegrist, and Stephen Horst officiating. Daniel D. Fry Jr., age 76, Nappanee, died at 4:06 pm, Saturday, August 5, 2023 at his residence of natural causes. He was born December 11, 1946 to Dan J. and Lydia Fry. On October 24, 1970, he married Ruby Kuhns.
She survives along with a son, Brian (Theresa) Fry; daughter, Sherry Fry; grandchildren, Sara Fry, Rachael Fry, and Seth Fry; sisters, Mary Ellen (Vern) Raber, Esther Anna Fry, both of South Carolina; and brothers, Joe (Bonnie) Fry, Michigan, Christ (Katie) Fry, Pennsylvania, and Clarence (PollyAnna) Fry, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 infant sisters; and brothers, 2 infants, John, Jacob, Mel, and Willard.
Mr. Fry served in the Vietnam War 1965 – 67. He had worked at Goshen Iron & Metal and was an over the road truck driver. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Family and friends may call after 2 pm Sunday, August 6, 2023 and after12 pm Monday, August 7th at the Josey Slabaugh residence (24480 CR 52, Nappanee). Funeral Services will be at 9:30 am, Tuesday, August 8th, also at the Josey Slabaugh Residence. Jordan Lee Fry, 10, of Ligonier, IN (district: 28-2), died at 9:14 pm on Wednesday, September 6, [2023] at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI. His death was the result of injuries he sustained in a softball accident earlier that day. He was born on October 31, 2012, in Topeka, to Arlin and Edna (Lambright) Fry.
Surviving in addition to his parents are three brothers, Malachi Fry, Javan Fry, and Anson Fry, all at home; a sister, Holly Fry, also at home; grandparents, Al and Arlene Fry of Millersburg and LaVern and Esther Lambright of Topeka; great-grandparents, Felty and Katie Fry of Topeka.
Jordan was a fifth grader at South Eden school.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Friday, September 8, and all day Saturday, September 9, at the family's residence, 1350 W. Perry Rd., Ligonier. LaVerda Sue Fry, 36, of Topeka, (district: 27-2), died at 12:32 pm on Friday, October 6, [2023] at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, following complications from open heart surgery. She was born on May 17, 1987, in LaGrange, to Kenny and Ruby (Hochstetler) Fry.
Survivors in addition to her parents of Topeka are three brothers, Steven (Karen) Fry, Larry (Marlene) Fry both of Middlebury, Loren (Esther) Fry of Goshen; three sisters, Wanda (Norman) Otto, Kaylene (Jared) Wingard, Doretta (Karl) Lehman all of Topeka; seven nieces and seven nephews, and many uncles and aunts who were all very special to LaVerda.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harvey and Edna Fry, Arthur Jay and Elizabeth Hochstetler and two step grandmothers, Mary Pauline Fry and Lydian Fry.
LaVerda was currently working at Topeka Pharmacy and Maple City Assemblers. She was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 8 and all-day Monday, October 9 at the family's residence, 6655 S. 400 W., Topeka. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Tuesday, October 10 also at the family's residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Lyle Yoder and the home ministers. Funk, Betty K. Kreider
November 7, 1929 - July 25, 2023
Betty K. Funk, 93, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Landis Homes, Lititz. She was married to E. Curtis Funk for 65 years until his passing on August 21, 2017. Born November 7, 1929 in West Hempfield Twp., she was the daughter of the late Elmer S. Kreider and Esther (Minnich) Kreider. Betty attended Mountville Elementary School. She was a member of Habecker Mennonite Church. She worked at Hamilton Watch, Oak Leaf Manor and volunteered for Columbia Reuzit. Betty served along with Curtis in 1-W Service in Philadelphia for two years. She was a faithful partner with her husband on their dairy farm. Most importantly she was a homemaker for their five children. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was very hospitable, enjoyed sewing, gardening, flowers, reading, traveling and retreating at their cabin on Pine Creek.
She is survived by: Lois (James) Harnish of Washington Boro, Janice (Mark) Charles of Washington Boro, Jo Funk (Paul Schlitz, Jr.) of Baltimore, Janie (Leon) Horst of Ephrata and Jay Funk (Pamela Shearer) of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters; Dorothy Ruppert (William, deceased) of New Oxford, Arlene Kreider of Lititz and sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Funk of Lititz. Along with her husband she was predeceased by Esther & Daniel Landis, Edna & Jacob Ginder, Melvin & Anna Mary Kreider and Lester & Laura Mae Kreider.
