Mary Emma Eby Stern was born 4-22-1885, in Rapho Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa., to Henry Shoemaker Eby and Catherine Peters Eby. She attended a one room school.
On May 25, 1905, she married Phares Stern Stern and moved to the Stern farm with her husband. They farmed for many years, and raised their family here. She was a homemaker all of her married life. In her later years, she loved to listen to the radio. At that time there was a program broadcast in Pennsylvania Dutch language from Lebanon, Pa. She could speak the language well. She was a member of Risser Mennonite Church, Elizabethtown, Pa. She became ill from a heart condition, but seemed to be doing well, and then had an attack and died on January 1, 1956, at her home.
She is survived by her husband, Phares S. Stern; a son, Abner Christian, married to Georgetta J. Lichty Stern; three daughters, Maggie (Harry) Geib, Edna (Robert J) Reichard, Marie (Earl C.) Wolf; and 18 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Emma in 1926.
Funeral services were held at Frank Miller Funeral Home, Elizabethtown, Pa., and burial was in Risser Mennonite Church Cemetery, Elizabethtown, Pa.
