MennObits Main Index Page

Last Name Index

Maiden Name Index

Year/Periodical Index

HOW TO USE THE INDEXES:

This site relies on old (and simple) web technology, so there is not a robust native search feature. There are two main ways to find what you are looking for.

  • If you know the name, use this Main Index page, where, by clicking the links above, you can narrow down your search using an alphabetical list of surnames (birth name, or maiden name when applicable).

  • If you do NOT know the name, but you know other specific details (like exact name of church, or small town, or other unique biographical information), try an advanced Google search of the MennObits website, using the following steps:
  • go to https://www.google.com/advanced_search
  • in the “Site or domain” field, type or paste: mcusa-archives.org/MennObits
  • then type in either words or exact phrases you are looking for, in any of the other fields indicated
  • this is not a fool-proof search method, but it might help locate hard-to-find information

  • There is also a way to find obituaries by Year and Periodical. Here are the Mennonite periodicals indexed:
  • Herald of Truth (1864-1908)
  • Gospel Witness (1905-1908)
  • Gospel Herald (1908-1998)
  • The Mennonite (1998-2020)
  • Mennonite Weekly Review (later Mennonite World Review)
  • Anabaptist World (merger of The Mennonite and Mennonite World Review)
  • At the bottom of the Year/Periodical Index, are yearly links for the Lazarus Project, which seeks to find additional or detailed obituaries online, either ones missed entirely by the above publications, or where the publications only printed a brief death notice.
  • NOTE: All the obituaries indexed in these periodicals and Lazarus Project should also be found in the main Names indices.
  • NOTE TO USERS: To see latest version, REFRESH each page!
