Susan Schlatter, 87, Passed
Away January 24
Susan (Conrad) Schlatter,
daughter of Daniel K. and Magdalena (Wittmer) Conrad was born near
Milford, Nebraska, May 3, 1882. She passed from this life Saturday
January 24, 1970 at the Mercy Hospital Iowa City, Iowa age 87 years, 8
months, 21 days.
Early in life she accepted Christ as her Saviour and was baptized and
united with the East Fairview Mennonite Church near Milford, Nebraska.
After moving to Iowa she transferred her membership to the Sugar Creek
Mennonite Church where she was a faithful and active member.
On November 29, 1905 she was united in marriage to David Schlatter at
Wayland, Iowa. To this union were born three children, two sons and one
daughter. Surviving are: her husband, David, one daughter, Inez and
husband, Paul Oswald, of Aurora, Nebraska, one son, Raymond and wife
Vera, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, one daughter-in-law Doris (widow of Emerson)
Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, one sister, Mrs. Lydia Widmer, Long Beach
California, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One son,
(Emerson) and one great grandchild preceded her in death.
She and her husband started married life on a farm southeast of
Wayland, Iowa and lived there until 1939 when they retired from the
farm and moved to their late home in East Wayland, Iowa. In May, 1968
they took up residence in the Pleasant View Home, Kalona, Iowa.
She lived a long and useful life and will be greatly missed by her
family and many friends.
All is over, hands are folded
On a clam and peaceful breast;
All is over, pain is ended
Now out dear Mother is at rest,
Every restless tossing passed
She is now at peace forever
Safely home in heaven at last.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 27, 1970 at 2:00 P.M. at
the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Rev. Vernon Gerig officiating.
Burial was in Sugar Creek Cemetery.
Casketbearers were, Carl Lund, Delmer Wagler, David Schlatter, Emil
Schlatter, and Val Oswald. The Zehr Funeral Home in Wayland was in
charge of arrangements.
