Goshen. She was born June 6, 1925 at Davidsville, PA to Ira and
Nora (Kaufman) Stahl. On June 15, 1949 she was married to Ray
Sala, who was born February 16, 1926.
Surviving are her husband and a sister, Grace Brubaker.
Romaine taught vocal music in several locations in Pennsyvania. Upon
the request of the Commission of Christian Education of the Mennonite
Church, Romaine was involved in a project conducting workshops in
children's music and worship 1965-1968. She was also the owner
and operator of an antique business for many years.
Memorial services were held November 21, 2008 at College Mennonite
Church, Goshen, Indiana. Her body was donated to Indiana University
School of Medicine.

Schantz, Esther M. Longacre, 100, of Souderton, PA died July 4,
2008 at Souderton, PA. She was born May 8, 1908 at Milford
Township, PA to Henry W. and Mary Alice (Roth) Longacre.
She was married to Erwin M. Schantz.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Alice Conrad, a son, Daniel Schantz, 6
grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Horace W.
Longacre, and W. Paul Longacre.
She was a lifelong active member of Swamp Mennonite Church, Quakertown,
PA.
Memorial services were held July 8, 2008 at Swamp Mennonite Church,
Quakertown, PA with burial in St John's Lutheran Cemetery,
Spinnerstown, PA.

Schell, Rosella M. Baer, 91,
of Milledgeville, Illinois died March 17, 2008 at Sterling, Whiteside,
Illinois. She was born January 31, 1917 in German Township. Ohio
to Joseph and Katie (Schrock) Baer. On September 2, 1952 she was
married to John Thomas Schell, who died in September 1970.
Surviving are children, William Joseph (Nancy) Schell, John M (Janice)
Schell,
Gloria M (Garry) Jost, six grandchildren, 3-stepgrandchildren,
and 10 great-grandchildren.
Seven siblings preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held March 20, 2008 at Science Ridge Mennonite
Church, Sterling, Whiteside Illinois with burial in the adjoining
cemetery.
She was a member of Mennonite Church USA.

Floyd Carl, 83, of
Agency, IA died February 23, 2008 at Agency, IA. He was born
October 25, 1924 at Bloomfield, IA to Clarence Irwin and Lora Hazel
(Widner) Schindler. On March 20, 1948 at Bloomfield, IA he was
married to Marilyn Luke.
Surviving are his wife, children, David (Claudia), Robert (Edie), Leon
(Brenda), Carla Skinner (Geno), Carol Neils (Tom), Marcia Holland
(Kevin), 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mildred
Sample (Don); and a brother, Earl (Evelyn) Schindler.
A brother, Harold Schindler preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held February 27, 2008 at Reece Funeral Home,
Ottumwa, IA with burial in Pulaski Cemetery, Pulaski, Davis, Co., IA.

Schlabach,
Daniel D., 82, of Winesburg died May 4, 2008 at Winesburg,
Holmes Co., Ohio from a sudden illness. He was born October 28,
1925 at Mt. Hope, Holmes Co., Ohio to Daniel E. and Amanda
(Yoder) Schlabach. On January 11, 1951 at Martins Creek, Holmes
Co., Ohio he was married to Retha F. Miller, who was born May 1, 1930
and survives.
Surviving are children, Dave (Helen) Schlabach, Brad (Jayne) Schlabach,
Brenda Sweany, Jim (Shirley) Schlabach, and eight grandchildren.
Two daughters, LaVonne and Elaine preceded him in death.
Daniel was a devoted father and husband who loved his family and spent
the last several years as caretaker to his wife Retha. He was a member
of Longenecker Mennonite Church where he served a steward, SS teacher,
and church historian. He loved visiting with family and friends and
sharing stories from the past.
Memorial services were held May 7, 2008 at Longenecker Mennonite
Church, Winesburg, Holmes Co., Ohio with burial in the adjoining
cemetery.

Schlegel, Walter N., 88, of Lansdale died September 28, 2008 at
Dock Terrace, Lansdale, PA. He was born at Lansdale, PA to
Nicholas and Matme (Brunner) Schlegel. He was married to Marion
Gehman, who survives.
Surviving are children, Ronald and Evangeline Schlegel, and one
grandchild.
A son, Walter Terry Schlegel preceded him in death.
He had a Purple Heart, 5 Bronze Stars, and 1 Bronze Arrowhead.

Goessel, KS died April 12, 2008 at Goessel, KS from a stroke. She
was born October 18, 1919 at Marion County, KS to A. L. and Maria
(Schroeder) Boese. On September 3, 1948 she was married to Elmer
Schmidt.
Surviving are children, Janice and Joel Worthington, Diana and Gary
Roberts,

Freeman, SD. She was born October 5, 1919 at Marion, SD to
Gerhard G. and Emma Schmidt.
Surviving is a sister, Elise (Aaron) Schmidt.
Her parents, a sister, Elenora, and five brothers, Leander Schmidt,
Theodore Schmidt, Howard Schmidt, Alfred (Melva) Schmidt, and Aaron
Schmidt preceded her in death.
She was devoted to her family, and was the primary caregiver for her
parents. She had the gift of hospitality.

Schmidt, Wilhelm G., 92, of Archbold died November 7, 2008 at
Archbold, Fulton Co., OH from natural causes. He was born July
22, 1916 at Hartford, CT to Wilhelm and Adele Schmidt. On January
13, 1996 he was married to Vera Nafziger, Williams, who was born
January 12, 1917 and survives.
Surviving are two daughters, Rosa Sommers, Gretchen Ursisi, 4
grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
A sister, Martha Schmidt preceded him in death.
Wilhelm was a retired printer for the Toledo Blade, a journeyman
printer, and a volunteer printer at Sauder Historic Village in
Archbold, OH.

Leon Ray, 76, of
Bloomington, IL died January 15, 2008 at Normal, McLean County,
Illinois from a massive hemorrhage due to accidental laceration of left
pelvic vein during left hip replacement surgery.
He was born March 3, 1931 at Alliance, Stark County, Ohio to Howard C.
and Verna Lucille (Miller) Schmucker. Howard was born March 8,
1900 and died January 17, 1976. Verna was born September 23, 1904
and died October 21, 1993.
On June 24, 1952 at Eureka, Woodford County, Illinois he was married to
Joyce Elaine Mishler, who was born July 26, 1932 and survives.
Surviving are siblings, Ian Schmucker (Mary); Sheldon Schmucker
(Blanche); Lucille Hershberger (Loren); and Lorene Lemond (Randy).
A sister, Shirley Hein (Luke) preceded him in death.
He was an active member of the Mennonite Church of Normal and had
served in many positions in the church. He was Vice-President of the
BroMenn Foundations-BroMenn HealthCare - this was his last position
prior to retirement. He had worked for Mennonite Hospital and
BroMenn HealthCare for 30 plus years. He was active with
the Humane Society of Central Illinois and had been president for 10
years. He was also active in many church, hospital related and
philanthropic organizations. He graduated in 1953 from Goshen
College, Goshen, Indiana and did post-graduate work at Illinois State
University in Normal, IL. He was a person of wide acquaintance,
had many, many friends and was a loving and devoted husband.
Memorial services were held January 19, 2008 at Mennonite Church of
Normal, Normal, McLean County, Illinois with burial in Mennonite Church
Cemetery, rural Carlock, McLean County, Illinois.

April 4, 1947 at Freeman, SD to Paul and Ada (Gering) Schrag. On
June 16, 1967 at Freeman, SD he was married to Candace Schrag, who
survives along with his parents.
Surviving are a daughter, Tammy Benjamin (Dan), a son, Cory Schrag

Schrag, Esther Mae Schrag, 79, of Hesston died August 14, 2008
at Hesston, Harvey County, Kansas after a long struggle with
Parkinson's Disease. She was born December 22, 1928 at
Moundridge, McPherson Co., KS to Daniel D. and Anna (Zerger)
Schrag. On August 10, 1948 at Moundridge she was married to Paul
Harvey Schrag, who was born November 2, 1923.
Surviving are her husband, children: Mary and Ray Hunsberger, Donna and
Gary Koehn, Allen and Mary Schrag, Lois Wahl; 11 grandchildren, 6
great-grandchildren, a sister, Ethel Juhnke, and two brother, Edwin
Schrag, and Harold Schrag.
Her siblings, Cora Stucky, Alida Cummings, Richard Schrag, Orlin
Schrag, Ruth Wedel, and Martha Krehbiel preceded her in death.

Adlai J. "AJ" Schrock, infant son of Kasey and Whitney (King) Schrock,
was stillborn at 6:58 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Sarah Bush
Lincoln Health Center.
A Graveside funeral service was held Tuesday morning at Arcola Cemetery
with Pastor Ken Hoover officiating. Memorials may be made to the family.
"AJ" is survived by his parents, Kasey and Whitney Schrock of
Charleston; maternal grandparents, Kelly A. and Larry A. Rardin of
Charleston; paternal grandparents, Brenda Schrock of Sydney and Kevin
Schrock of Tuscola, maternal greatgrandparents, Nancy Hills and John R.
King, both of Charleston; paternal greatgrandparents, Doyle and Kaye
Rardin of Hindsboro and Janis Schrock of Tuscola; and three uncles Cody
Schrock of Sydney and Dustin and Jared King, both of Charleston.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, Charlotte
King; maternal great-great-grandmother, Betty King; and paternal
great-grandfather, Adlai J. "AJ" Schrock.
AJ was loved and wanted by so many people; he will be sadly missed.

while volunteering with Presbyterian Disaster Service in Houma,
LA.
He was born July 29, 1931 at Woodriver, NE to Lewis Rollin and Ada
Marie (Lehman) Schrock. Lewis Rollin was born February 11, 1910
and died September 30, 1951. Ada Marie was born November 11, 1910
and died September 24, 1992.
On August 23, 1953 at Casselton, ND he was married to Twila Stoll, who
was born March 3, 1931 and survives.
Surviving are children, Dee Albrecht (Tom Albrecht, spouse), Joan
Schrock-Woodward (Don Woodward, spouse), Elizabeth Slabaugh (Marvin
Slabaugh, spouse), and Erin Geiser (spouse of Michael Schrock), 11
grandchildren plus one spouse, and siblings: Roy Schrock, Lila Mae
Gould, Wilma Cannon, and Thelma Schrock.
Son, Michael Lewis Schrock died in an accident February 25, 2008 on the
way to his father's funeral.
He was a proud father and grandfather, active in church and community.
He had a life long career teaching English and Creative Writing, and
had a passion for family genealogy and heritage.

Church, Fargo, ND with burial in Casselton Cemetary, Casselton, ND.

Herman Monroe, 83, of Harrisonburg, VA died April 12, 2008 at
Harrisonburg, VA. He was born May 25, 1924 in Reno County, Kansas
to Samuel E. and Katie C. (Miller) Schrock. On April 30, 1955 he
was married to Katherine Blough, who was born July 25, 1928 and
survives.
Surviving are a son, Darrel Schrock and wife Evangeline of Newport
News, VA;
Daughters: Linda S. Schrock of Harrisonburg, VA and Sonya K. Carrier of
Dayton VA; four grandchildren: Thomas Carrier, T. J. Carrier, Leanna
Schrock, and Kenny Schrock.

Joel N. Schrock, 94, of rural
Arthur passed away at 2:30 a.m. Saturday. July 12, 2008 at his
residence.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at the family residence with
Bishop Omer Otto officiating. Burial was in Otto Cemetery.
Visitation was anytime prior to the funeral service at the residence.
Mr. Schrock was born October 11, 1913, in Douglas County. He was a son
of Noah B. and Lydia (Kauffman) Schrock. He married Sovilla Miller on
October 3, 1935. She passed away September 6, 2007.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Schrock and wife Mary Ellen of
Arthur, and Ervin Schrock and wife Sarah of West Farmington, Ohio;
three daughters, Anna Stutzman and husband John of Arcola, Katie Beachy
and husband Levi of Arthur, and Verna Kaufman and husband Lewis of
Arthur; one daughter-in-law, Lizzie Schrock of Arthur; three brothers,
Enos Schrock and wife Rachel of Rockville, Indiana, Ben Schrock of
Arcola, and Harvey Schrock of Seymour, Missouri; one sister, Katie
Gingerich of Arthur; 31 grandchildren; 99 great-grandchildren; 5
great-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Omer; two
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters.
Mr. Schrock was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish
Faith.

22, 2008. He was married to Erin Geiser, who survives.
Surviving are children, Atlee Geiser Schrock and Haven Geiser Schrock
and his sisters, Diedre (Tom) Albrecht, Joan (Don) Schrock Woodward,
and Elizabeth (Marvin) Slabaugh.
He was an architect who specialized in educational projects and
mentored young architects, and was a former chair and board member of
Wilderness Wind Boundary
Water Camp.
Memorial services were held March 2, 2008 at Luther Seminary, St. Paul,
Ramsey County, Minnesota.

2008 at Wakarusa. She was born February 3, 1914 at Nappanee, IN

Nappanee, IN she was married to Ervin J. Schwartz, who was born
December 31, 1916 and survives.

a member of the Martindale Mennonite Church and formerly of Weaverland
Mennonite Church.

Lancaster, died December 11, 2008 at Landis Homes after a long battle
with Alzheimer's Disease, with his family
by his side. He was the husband of Nancy E. Groff Shenk of Lancaster
for 42 years.
Born in New Holland, he was the son of Adam M. Shenk and Viola H. Shenk
Gochnauer. He was a graduate of Millersville University. Before
his illness, he worked in banking information technology, working for
Meridian Bancorp in Reading, PA as a Vice President and most recently
for Vanguard, Malvern, PA.
He was a member of Lititz Moravian Church, where he sang in the choir
and was a past member of the Board of Elders. John was an avid
basketball fan and recreational player.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughters Katie (Sevan Hadjolian) of
Lancaster and Kim (Bill Johnsen) of Ridgewood, NJ; grandsons Leo
and Andre Hadjolian and Eric and Owen Johnsen; a brother, Jay Shenk, of
Maumee, OH; and sister, Shirley King of New Holland and Nancy L.
Shenk of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 16th at 7 p.m. at
Lititz Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz, PA, with the Rev.

Archbold, died early Wednesday morning, April 9, 2008, at Fairlawn
Haven Nursing Home, Archbold.
Born June 2, 1912, near Archbold, she was the daughter of Sarah (Rupp)
and Aaron Short.
A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, she was a seamstress and
worked as a clerk at the former Rufenacht's Haberdashery and Bill's
Locker Room in Archbold for more than 60 years.
She was a member of Zion Mennonite Church and Fulton County Health
Center Auxiliary, and was a volunteer in the dining room at Fairlawn
Haven Nursing Home.
Surviving are a sister, Marie Short of Archbold; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Dennis Short,
Emmet Short and Earl Short; and two sisters, Inez Zaerr and infant
Thelma Short.
Visitation will be Friday from 3-8 p.m. in the Fairlawn Chapel.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Fairlawn Chapel
with Pastor Mona Sauder to officiate. Interment will precede in the

Edith Virginia Rhodes Showalter, 87, formerly of Broadway and
Timberville, Va., died Sunday (Aug. 31, 2008) at 5 a.m. at Oak Lea,
Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, Harrisonburg, Va., where she
had been a resident since 1998.
Mrs. Showalter was born Feb. 21, 1921, at Dayton, Va., the oldest
daughter of Webster Clay and Sarah Mabel Showalter Rhodes. She was
married to Owen F. Showalter of Broadway on April 25, 1942, and he died
Jan. 21, 2000.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon S. Harman of Harrisonburg, and
seven sons: Harley R. and Myron J. of Harrisonburg, O. Franklin
Jr. and Ruel J. of Broadway, Welby C. of Linville, Stuart W. of
Kalamazoo, Mich., and H. D. Hollis of Ann Arbor, Mich.; 15
grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Alicia
Showalter Reynolds, died in 1996, and a daughter-in-law, Martha Ann
Baer Showalter, died in 1998.
Also surviving are three sisters, Esther (Mrs. Willis) Rohrer, Ida
(Mrs. Wilbur) Rohrer, and Norma Koogler, all of Dayton, and five
brothers, Eber, John and Neil of Dayton, Reuben of Harrisonburg, and
Luke of Ashland, Ohio. Preceding her in death were four brothers, Mark
and Harry of Columbiana, Ohio, and infants Franklin and Daniel of
Dayton.
Mrs. Showalter was a homemaker and farm wife, having lived at Broadway,
Salem, Ohio, and Timberville before moving to Broadway again in 1974.
She was also employed by Timberville Elementary School and the H.D. Lee
Co. She enjoyed caring for her family, cooking, quilting, gardening and
singing.
She was a member of Trissels Mennonite Church, Broadway, where the
funeral service and burial will [likely] be held Wednesday (Sept. 3) at
10 a.m.

Clinton Va. He was also involved for many years in the Mennonite

Suetta was born July 8, 1931, in Ephrata, Lancaster County, a daughter
of the late David and Annie (Stauffer) Horst. She was a caregiver for
many families in the local area and was a member of Stauffer's
Mennonite Church at Riverview, Liverpool.
Suetta is survived by Ethan Showalter of Waynesboro, Va.; a daughter,
Audrey Showalter, at home; three sons and their spouses, Anthony and
Kathryn Showalter of Liverpool, Steven and Marie Showalter of Leonard,
Minn., and Rodney and Carolyn Showalter of Mount Pleasant Mills; 30
grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five brothers and their spouses,
Roy S. and Arlene Horst of Selinsgrove, David S. and Mary Horst of Port
Trevorton, Levi S. and Susie Horst of Denver, Pa., Carmi S. and Emma

Slabaugh, Andrew M. "Andy", 84, of Kalona, IA. died September 4, 2008. He was born July 24, 1924 in Arthur, IL, to Moses and Sarah Hershberger Slabaugh. On February 20, 1944 he was united in marriage to Tillie Coblentz in Kalona. He was a member of Fairview Mennonite Church. Andy was in his glory singing harmony along with directing and teaching music. Singing in the men's chorus was a memory he spoke of frequently.

disease.
He was born April 19, 1919 at Atglen, Chester Co., PA to Elam E. and
Elizabeth M. (Mast) Smoker. Elam was born January 11, 1895 and
died October 20, 1991. Elizabeth was born September 19, 1898 and
died May 31, 1994.
On March 26, 1941 at Frazer, Chester Co., PA he was married to Dorothy
Virginia Malin, who was born May 29, 1917 and survives.
Surviving are children, Arthur E., Jr., (Nova); Howard P. (Rhoda);
Emerson R. (Linda); Robert E. (Kathleen) nine grandchildren, twenty
great-grandchildren, and Siblings: Pauline Martin; Irene Martin (Amos);
Naomi Byers (Harold); Elvin (Ann); Erma Clemens (David); Louise Miller
(Paul); and Jeanette Eby (Kenneth).
A brother, Omar preceded him in death.

He was born at Intercourse, PA to Joseph and Rachel (Lapp) Smoker. He
was married 60 years to Esther B. (Stoltzfus) Smoker.
Norman was a partner with Smoker Farm Elevator in Intercourse and later
he and his wife owned and operated the Deitsch Shier/Best Western Motor
Inn in Intercourse, PA. Recently he worked at Oregon Dairy, Lititz, PA.
Survivied by his wife and three sons, Larry A. Smoker of Akron, PA;
Carl L., married to Sandra (Bare) Smoker of Lancaster, PA and Jeffrey
L., married to Linda (Sweigart) Smoker of New Holland, PA; four

October 28, 2008 at the Brandywine Hospital, Coatsville, PA. She was
born 1924 in Sadsbury Township, Lancaster Co., PA to Priscilla Smoker.
She was a member of Ridgeview Mennonite Church, Gordonville, Lancaster
Co., PA. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Lancaster General
Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She then spent two additional years
of schooling at Eastern Mennonite University. She was one of the first
nurses at Phil Haven when it opened. She spent 19 years working at the
Bethesda Psychiatric Hospital, Denver, CO.
Funeral service was November 9, 2008 at the Tel Hai Chapel, Honey
Brook, PA.

Smucker, Daniel Martin, 91, of
Harrisonburg, VA died November 19, 2008. He was born October 8,
1917, in Oyster Point, VA, to Dan and Verna Mast Smucker. He was
married to Frances Yoder in 1942, she died 1999.
Dan was a member of the Lindale Mennonite Church, Linville, VA. In
1946, He was the founding Pastor of Ridgeway Mennonite church,
Harrisonburg, VA, where Dan pastored for 40 years. For Dan and
Frances, pastoring duties took precedence over shop and farm. They
served with the Mennonite Central Committee in Botswana ('74-76), with
the VA Mennonite Mission Board in Trinidad from '81-82, and in interim
pastorates, including Ridgeway, Lynside, Powhatan, Stephens City and
Zion Hill Churches.
Surviving are a son, Gary Smucker, Alexandria, VA; two daughters, Jean
Smucker Fisher, Harrisonburg, VA; Karen Shelly Smucker and husband,
James C. Shelly, Meridan, ID; one sister, Elizabeth Smucker,
Harrisonburg, VA; one brother, Paul Smucker and wife, Heidi, Spring
Mills, PA; three grandchildren, J. Atieno Fisher, DC; Lara Fisher,
Charlottesville, VA; Daniel Thabo Fisher and wife, Melissa, Brooklyn,

She was born March 18, 1913 to John Sr. and Mae Ramseyer in Hudson, Illinois. She was baptized at Pleasant Hill Mennonite Church near Sterling, IL. She married Paul R. Smucker on August 20, 1936. Ella Pearl taught Sunday and summer bible school classes during most of her early life at Pleasant Hill Mennonite Church and continued to be involved in various committees when the church moved to Smithville. She enjoyed several years in Bible Study Fellowship.
Survived by her sons, Ralph (Cissy) Smucker of Austin, TX, Alvin (Betty) Smucker of Okemos, MI, Mark (Jeanne) Smucker of Indianapolis, IN, Don (Jane) Smucker of Coldwater, MI, and daughter-in-law Dot Smucker of Goshen, IN. She has fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Mae Smucker of Wooster, OH, brother Roy (Kathryn) Ramseyer of Marshallville and sister-in-law Lois Ramseyer of Smithville.She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her son, Lynn, and brothers Paul and John Ramseyer.

Born in Mount Joy, PA, to Christian S. and Emma Bullock Simons. She was the wife of the late Jonas H. Snavely who died in 1957. She was a member of the Manheim Mennonite Church.
Surviving is a son, James S. husband of Arlene Miller Snavely of Lancaster, two daughters, Martha S. Mast of Lititz, Rachel S. wife of Kevin Rader of Huttonsville, West Virginia, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

GOSHEN -- Dorcas Fern Snyder,
87, of 1225 Greencroft Drive, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 20,
2008) in Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born Dec. 31, 1920, in New Paris to Leander and Anna (Leinbach)
Garber. On June 1, 1940, she married Paul Devon Snyder in Goshen. He
died Feb. 20, 1991.
Mrs. Snyder is survived by 10 children, Rolene (Willis) Gingerich,
Janice (Dan) Monschein, Ellen (Walter) Bradley and Karen and Ronda
Snyder, all of Goshen, Bonnie (Doug) Kirkdorffer, Jerry (Karen) Snyder
and Fred (Barbara) Snyder, all of New Paris, Peggy (Pat) Goggins of
Pierson, Mich., and Charles Snyder of Nappanee; 19 grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Violet (John J.) Kaufman and Cora
Askren, both of Goshen; and one brother, Verlin Garber of Boston.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lovina Hershberger, Myrtle
Shaum and Hazel Toney; one brother, Leroy Garber; and one half-brother,
Etril Leinbach.
Mrs. Snyder was a 1939 graduate of New Paris High School. She raised
and butchered chickens and beef, assisted on the farm and was a
housewife. She worked as a cook at Fountainview Healthcare, Elkhart,
for four years and worked for MMA for 15 years. She was a member of
Yellow Creek Mennonite Church and enjoyed reading.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Yellow Creek Mennonite
Church. Pastor Wes Bontreger will officiate. Burial will be in Yellow
Creek Cemetery, Goshen.
Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen, is assisting with

Speicher, Bertha Irene Gingerich, 93, of Middlebury, Indiana
died October 16, 2008 at Goshen, Indiana. She was born August 24,
1915 in Seward County, Nebraska to Andrew and Mary Martin
Gingerich. On October 26, 1935 at Valparaiso, Indiana she was
married to Willis Speicher, who was born September 22, 1910 and died
April 10, 1995.
Surviving are children, Dean (Charlene) Speicher, Cheryl (Brad) Miller,
3 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a
brother, Alvin Gingerich.
Three sisters, Nellie Gingerich, Elsie Birky, and LaVera Birky, four
brothers, Joe Gingerich, Ed Gingerich, Irvin Gingerich, and Delmar
Gingerich, and a grandson, Aaron Miller preceded her in death.
Bertha was a homemaker, worked in the cafeteria for the Middlebury
schools and worked for 16 and a half years as a waitress at the Village
Inn, Middlebury. She was a member of the First Mennonite Church,
Middlebury, where she taught Sunday school for 18 years, was active in
the WMSC, the Mary and Martha Circle, the Dorcas Class and served many
years at the donut booth during the Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale.
Memorial services were held October 19, 2008 at First Mennonite Church,
Middlebury, Indiana with burial in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury,
Indiana.

Stamm, Martha J. Eicher, 86, of Archbold, Fulton Co., OH died
September 5, 2008 at Archbold from natural causes. She was born
February 24, 1922 at Archbold to Arthur and Bertha (Burkholder)
Eicher. On April 13, 1941 she was married to Walter Stamm, who
was born December 10, 1919 and survives.
Surviving are children, Edward (Karen) Stamm, Roger (Jeannine) Stamm,
Dale (Leslie) Stamm, Pat (Bill) Bondi, Karen (Ross) Wyse, 19
grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and sisters, Helen (Dale) Weldy,
and Grace Eicher.
One grandchild, a brother, James (Grace) Eicher, and a sister, Mary
Short preceded her in death.
She was a member of Cherry Street Mission Auxiliary and the women's
group of WPOS.
Memorial services were held September 9, 2008 at Central Mennonite
Church, Archbold, OH with burial in Pettisville Cemetery, Pettisville,

Stamm, Walter E., 88, of Archbold died November 21, 2008 at
Archbold, Fulton Co., OH from natural causes. He was born
December 10, 1919 at Archbold to Fred and Hulda (Aeschliman)
Stamm. On April 13, 1941 he was married to Martha Jane Eicher,
who was born February 24, 1922 and died September 5, 2008.
Surviving are children, Edward (Karen) Stamm; Roger (Jeannine) Stamm;
Dale (Leslie) Stamm; Pat (Bill) Bondi; Karen (Ross) Wyse, 19
grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Mahlon Stamm; two sisters, Dora McKie, and Frieda Rupp, and
a grandchild preceded him in death.
Walter worked as a farmer, excavator, and trucker. He served on
the board of Cherry Street Mission and WPOS and sang in the Men's
Chorus at Central
Mennonite Church.

Raymond J., 82, of Millersburg, OH died January 30, 2008 at
Walnut Creek, Holmes Co., OH. He was born May 19, 1925 at
Nashville, Holmes Co., OH to Ray and Clara (Kinsey) Starner. On
June 7, 1947 he was married to Ruth Miller.

Chouteau, OK from cancer. She was born July 31, 1958 to Carrol
and Magdalena (Froese) Statum.
Surviving are her father, two sons, Stephen and Brandon, two

Her mother preceded her in death August 29, 2000.

Stauffer, Clyde V., age 82, of Lancaster, PA, died at the Mennonite Home June 9, 2008. Born in Blue Ball, PA, to Barton A. and Estelle M. Ziemer Stauffer and the husband of the late Ruth Buckwalter Stauffer, who died in 1992.
He was a founding member of the Neffsville Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA
Survived by three daughters, Jean E., wife of Earl G. Roberts, Lebanon, PA, Phyllis M., wife of Bill Clements, Baltimore, MD, Brenda S., wife of Charles Zdenek, Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands, two granddaughters, Allison E. Roberts, San Francisco, CA, Lisa Adara Zdenek, Turks & Caicos Islands, a grandson, Christopher M. Roberts, Rochester, NY, and a sister, Mildred, wife of Mike Nolt, Lampeter, PA.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Stauffer, and a brother, Robert Stauffer.
Funeral services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Stauffer, Harold S., 70, of Lancaster, died February 13, 2008 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, PA, to Norman E. and Grace S. Stauffer. His wife is Connie Heisey Stauffer. He was a member of East Chestnut Street Mennonite Church where he formerly served as Church Board Chair and taught Sunday school. Harold along with his wife Connie served as Business Manager with EMM in Somalia from 1961-1965. He was secretary for the board of directors at CONTACT Lancaster Helpline and served on the Landis Home Board. He enjoyed reading, traveling, especially to Florida in the winter, spending time at his cottage, "Happy Ours" in Mt Gretna, PA.
Survived by his wife Connie and daughter Cindy Mull, grandsons Michael and Gregory Mull, two sisters Arlene Longenecker and Lois wife of Harold Nissley, sister-in-law Betty Stauffer. He was preceded in death by a brother J. Melvin Stauffer.
Funeral service was Monday February 18, 2008 at East Chestnut Street Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA at 11:00 A.M. with Pastors Ron Adams, Sue Conrad, and Don Good officiating. Interment will be in East Petersburg Mennonite Cemetery, East Petersburg, PA.

Stauffer, Susie B. Stauffer
Susie B. Stauffer, 80, of Red Lake, Ontario, Canada, died Tuesday,
December 4, 2008 at Red Lake Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her
husband, Norman R. Stauffer.
Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late Eli and Mary M.
Stauffer.
Susie was a member of Red Lake Mennonite Church. She was a great cook
and enjoyed using her gift of hospitality.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children: Jim
married to Lois Stauffer, Northwest Territories; Mary Elaine married to
Jonathan Peachey, New Mexico; and Stephanie married to Dale Nolt,
Ephrata; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers and
three sisters.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 9 at 10 AM at Martindale
Mennonite Church, 171 Hurst Rd., Ephrata with Pastors Robert Trupe and
Matthew Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining
church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Monday from 6
to 8 PM and Tuesday from 9 to 10 AM. Kindly omit flowers. The Eckenroth
Home for Funerals, Terre Hill is in charge of local arrangements.

Wallace Waldo, 83, of Harrisonburg, VA died February 11, 2008 at
Harrisonburg, VA. He was born August 22, 1924 at Milford, Neb. to
Jacob and Lovina (Miller) Stauffer. On December 1, 1946 he was
married to Edna Beckler, who died December 7, 2005.
Surviving are children, Wade W. & Bernie Stauffer 4 grandchildren,
a brother, Vernon Stauffer, a sister, Ruth Schweitzer, and sister, Lola
Kennel.
Two daughters, Jana Roth and Jane Stauffer, and a grandson, Ryan Roth
preceded him in death.

Stoltzfoos, Simeon M. "Simmie", 84, died December 7th, 2008 at his home. He lived within a half mile of his birthplace on Hess Road, Leola, PA, all his life. He was born April 3, 1924 to Aaron B. and Annie (Stoltzfus) Stoltzfoos. His wife was Fannie Mae Miller were married on February 6th 1947.
He was a faithful member of the Weavertown Amish Mennonite Church. He also taught a Sunday School class for many years.
Survived by his wife Fannie and five sons, Omar Aaron married to Mary Helmuth, Edwin Ray married to Esther Yoder, Norman Lee married to Donna Eberly, Allen David Married to Vina Gabour, all of Leola, PA; John Mark married to Ada Fisher, Lancaster, PA, Brenda Mae married to J Sam Nisly, Oswego, KS and Mary Ann married to Dave King, Ronks, PA, 35 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Sarah Stoltzfoos.
He was preceded in death by five brothers: Moses, George, Thomas, James, and Samuel. The Funeral service was December 10, 2008 at Weavertown Amish Mennonite Church. Bird-in-Hand, PA. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Furman Home for Funerals, Leola.

Stoltzfus, Brent A., 20, of Gordonville, PA died Tuesday November 11, 2008 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born 1988 to Mahlon and June Schrock Stoltzfus.
Survived by his parents and sister, Beth married to Eric Hess of Willow Street, PA; paternal grandmother, Susan Stoltzfus of Bird-in-Hand, PA; maternal grandparents, Ivan married to Ruby Schrock of Goshen, IN.
The memorial service was held at Ridgeview Mennonite Church, Gordonville on November 15, 2008 at 4 PM. Private interment at the convenience of the family.

Stoltzfus, Mark P.
Mark P. Stoltzfus, 86, formerly of Creek Hill Rd., Leola, died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Maple Farm Nursing Center. He is survived by his wife, Minnie (Yoder) Stoltzfus, currently of 303 Rolling Terrace, Leola. They had observed their 62nd anniversary on January 3.
Born in Upper Leacock Twp., he was the son of the late Daniel S. and Sarah B. (Stoltzfus) Stoltzfus.
Mark was a farmer until age 55 at which time he began working as a nurseryman for SKH in Leola for 23 years.
He was a member of Ridgeview Mennonite Church where he served for many years as a Sunday School teacher.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children: Etta married to Earl Esch, Leola; Wilma married to James Eby, Olympia, WA; Dale married to Kathy (Brunk) Stoltzfus, Leola; Muriel married to Krist King, West Unity, OH; Sara married to Walter Bushong, Lancaster; and Beth married to Rob Martin, Lititz; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Naaman married to Verna Stoltzfus, Gap and John Stoltzfus companion of Gloria Schmidt, Seligman, AZ; three sisters: Marian Yoder, Sarasota, FL; Ann Stoltzfus, Leola; Rhoda married to George Beiler, Gordonville; and a sister-in-law Martha (Lapp) Stoltzfus, Altro, KY.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Stoltzfus.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Ridgeview Mennonite Church, 3723 Ridge Road, Gordonville, with Pastors John Denlinger and Nelson Yoder officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. If desired, memorials may be sent to Mennonite Disaster Service, 1018 Main Street, Akron, PA 17501. Stoltzfus, Mary Pauline "Polly", 86, of Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz, PA died November 25, 2008. She was born at Lancaster, PA to Jacob Buchen and Mary Estelle (Witwer) Hufford, married to Melvin R. Stoltzfus, who died in 2006. A member of Paradise Mennonite Church, Paradise, PA. She was a lecturer at the Hebrew Tabernacle, a tour guide for the Lancaster Mennonite Information Center. She was with Beth Shalom Bible Study, the women's auxiliary of The Gideon Biblical Association.
Survived by three daughters, Elaine, wife of Donald Brubaker, Bluffton, OH; Nancy, wife of Dr. Leon Weaver, Montpelier, OH and Joyce, wife of Ronald Meck, Denver, PA and son, Marlin, married to Beth Musser Stoltzfus, Strasburg, PA. Her grandchildren, Chad, Brian and his wife YaTyng, Chris and his wife Katie, Matthew and his wife Susan, Ryan, Zachary, Jeremy and David. Also surviving are two brothers, Clarence (Verna) Hufford and Bruce (Diana) Hufford, and a brother-in-law Paul Wikerd.

Sterling William, 82, of Kalona died April 8, 2008 at Kalona,
Washington County, Iowa. He was born April 7, 1926 at Wood River,
Nebraska to John and Laura (Beckler) Stoltzfus. On October 19,
1947 at Milford, Nebraska he was married to Myrtle Sutter, who
survives.
Surviving are children, Ruth Boller, Donna Wyse, Jane King, Philip
Stoltzfus, and Barb Garber, 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren,
three brothers, Einer Stoltzfus, Richard Stoltzfus, and John Stoltzfus.
Three sisters, Elivra Yoder, Donna Stoltzfus, and Darlene Stoltzfus
preceded him in death.

Virginia Ann Toevs, 77, of Moundridge died March 14, 2008 at
Moundridge, McPherson County, Kansas after a period of poor
health. She was born September 1, 1930 at Newton, Harvey County,
Kansas to Jake E. and Anna (Mackey) Toevs.
On September 1, 1949 at Moundridge, McPherson, County, Kansas she was
married to Dwight Dale Stucky, who was born March 14, 1921 and died
November 20, 1988.
Surviving are children, Sylvia (Stucky) Verbeck and husband Dan
Verbeck, Bruce and Mary Kay Stucky, Monte Stucky, and 5 grandchildren.
Memorial services were held March 17, 2008 at First Mennonite Church of
Christian, Moundridge, McPherson County, Kansas with burial in the

Ella J. Stutzman, 78, of rural
Arcola passed away at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at her
residence.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. today (Thursday) at the family
residence, 278 North Road 275 East in rural Arcola with Bishop Andy Ray
Mast officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery in rural Arcola.
Visitation was any time after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the family
residence. Edwards Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral
arrangements.
She was born on May 27, 1930, in Douglas County. She was a daughter of
Jonas J. and Lizzie (Beachy) Stutzman.
She is survived by three brothers, Daniel Stutzman and wife Lucille of
Fort Wayne, Indiana, Henry Stutzman and wife Ada of Plain City, Ohio,
and John Stutzman and wife Anna of Arcola, and one sister, Ida Stutzman
of Arcola.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Barbara and
Martha Stutzman; and one sister-inlaw, Mary Stutzman.
She was a retired housekeeper and a member of the Old Order Amish.

Mary Ann Fergison, 97, of Goshen, Indiana died March 6, 2008 at
Elkhart, Indiana. She was born September 16, 1910. On
December 29, 1928 she was married to Herbert S. Swarm, who died May 13,
1970.
Surviving are a son, Herbert E. (Treva) Swarm; and two daughters, Alice
(Leroy) Conley; and Ruby Jean (Roger) Veatch.
Memorial services were held March 8, 2008 at
Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa, Indiana with burial
in the Olive East Cemetery, Elkhart County, Indiana.

Swartzendruber, David Harold, 57, of Goshen, IN died October 21,
2008 at New Paris, Elkhart Co., IN from a car/semi-truck crash.
He was born August 21, 1951 at Ft. Dodge, Iowa to Harold Leon and
Lucille (Graber) Swartzendruber. Harold was born January 1, 1924
and Lucille was born October 10, 1925.
On February 14, 2002 he was married to Jereen Jesca Nandawula.
Surviving are his parents, his wife, a daughter, Breanne Nicole (Shawn)
Buterbaugh, a son, Michael David (Nicole) Swartzendruber, one
grandchild, one sister, Janet Reid (Tim Tizzano) and two brothers,
James Swartzendruber and Steven Swartzendruber.
His first marriage was to Diane Hange Sinjula, mother of his children.
David was a licensed occupational therapist and worked in that field
about 28 years.

Church, Goshen, IN with burial in Violett Cemetery, Goshen, IN.

Swartzendruber, Wayne Herbert, 79, of Hesston died December 20,
2008 at Hesston, Harvey County, Kansas after a struggle with
Parkinsons, leukemia, and a stroke. He was born December 28, 1928
at Newton, Harvey County, Kansas to George and Grace (Snyder)
Swartzendruber. On May 27, 1950 he was married to Margie Lu
Hostetler, who was born January 8, 1931 and survives.
Surviving are sons: Elbert and Karl; daughter: Jan Swartzendruber, 2
grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren,
brothers: Gene, Richard, Robert, and Larry, and sisters: Evelyn Troyer,
and Virginia Swartzendruber.
Memorial services were held January 10, 2009 at Whitestone Mennonite
Church, Hesston, Kansas with burial in Eastlawn Cemetery Harvey County,
Kansas.
